I tried some searches so I apologize if this has ever been covered...
I have kind of an odd battery problem that happens in every build I've tried/used (Desire, DesireHD, EVO, and stock froyo). Basically at around 35% battery the phone will shut off and report 0% when Windows Mobile boots up. The remaining 35% works normally in Windows Mobile. This is on a T-Mobile HD2. Although I've tried many builds, the one I currently run day-to-day is mdeejay's DesireHD build.
As a test, once this happened I let the battery charge while powered off, and it got to 10%. I booted Android and it was at 7% when it was finished. I plugged it in and it didn't move at all in half an hour. Going back into Windows also reported 7%.
Back in Windows I let the phone charge to 38% before booting into Android. At this point the phone charged as it should.
I did follow the instructions on this forum for deleting batterystats.bin. This didn't help.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a solution for this? This battery thing is the only thing keeping me from running Android 24/7. Everything else (except the camera) I'm extremely happy with.
I've also tried different radios, 2.12, 2.14, and I'm currently running 2.15
Did you try different wm ROM?
Hi,
I've tried an older and the newest stock T-Mobile ROMs, Miri's 6.5, and another one I can't think the name of (came with a Windows Phone 7-style theme).
Edit: BTW I'm currently running the newest stock T-Mobile ROM
It happens sometimes, it's because android doesn't recalibrate battery as wince does.
To solve the issue, go to wince, finish the battery, recharge fully while wince is running, let it discharge fully in wince, it should work fine afterwards.
I've had almost the same problem cept mine died at 11%. I solved it by switching builds but I still try to charge it before it gets under 10%. Also noticed that if I had my phone plugged in in WM I had to unplug and replug it in before android would recognize it and start charging. Hope it helps,

I was recently on one of the old Dutty ROMs (V2.1 XTREME) and decided to upgrade to something newer, so I got the latest "phoenix" EnergyROM (Dec 17th) and flashed that using USPL SD bootloader.
The problem then arose that they phone was always extremely hot, specifically on the back down the bottom just above where the plastic cover for the antenna(s) is.
The battery would not charge to 100% and tBattery showed that it was drawing up to 400mA all the time, this is when plugged in and sitting on 99% charged. On a call (while plugged in) for ~20min the battery will also drop 50%.
I then did the following, which has had no affect;
Hard-reset, flash "leo" EnergyROM, hard-reset, flash Miri 6.5 ROM, hard-Reset, flash to the original Dutty v2.1 (when it was working), hard-reset.
I have tested the phone in-between all these procedures and even tried using a different (aftermarket) battery, all to no avail.
The engineer in me says it's a hardware issue, but I would like to think it's a software issue, something running at 100% consuming too much power.
I'm now looking for any ideas or advice on what could be the cause, since I have a phone that is practically unusable when not plugged in.
Cheers!

Could also be a faulty battery as I've tried to roms you mentioned and did not have the same issue with battery. If not battery it could be a hardware issue. You can buy a cheap battery easily to test this
I've already tried a second battery as I mentioned, doesn't make any difference at all.

Have you ensured that all data connections are closed, Beam turned off and no automatic updates are ticked (weather, stock, email etc). If so, then it sounds like a faulty device.
Does the exact same thing even with wireless off and in aeroplane mode.

Defo faulty device then
Hi Gussy,
I agree with Fallen Spartan and I think it's a hardware issue (battery issue).
Please try the following:
(1) Charge the battery to 100%.
(2) Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications.
(3) Disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,
(4) Enable flight mode
(5) Set backlight to maximum settings.
(6) In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off.
(7) Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.
(8) If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Regards.
Battery won't charge to 100%, only 99%.
I have done pretty much that test already, a few times, with the original and a new battery, and neither lasts the 1hr.
Ah sorry, yep sounds like a faulty device. Is it under warranty? I don't think you could even flash back to stock ROM and Radio if you are planning to return the device (even if still under warranty) because of the power consumption issue
It have about 7 days of a 1 year warranty left, from the eBay seller I got it off. Sent the guy an email, don't expect a reply though.
I can flash back to stock, I just keep it plugged in and it works fine.

Ok mate. I suppose you have done all that can be done. Hope the warranty situation works in your favour.
Best Regards.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting.
my hd as been displaying the exact same symptoms for near on a month now,
i assumed the battery was cooked but its near identical to your issues,
i aquired a hero around the same time it started playing up so i aint been that bothered but reading this got me thinking its time to think about sending it off for repair.
if as i think you meant nrgz28s rom then i also flashed the 17th dec 6.5 dusk rom build 28014.
i cant be 100% sure thats the exact time the problems started but its very close if not the exact time.
the phone was purchased around mid december last year so about the same age if yours was new.
coincidence or contract concspiracy lol?
Could this be caused by a faulthy radio>!
Hmmm, could be, but most probably still the hardware error.
Altough, combination of very mismatched radio and RIL could cause simillar symptoms...
Best check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274
I had a similar problem.
Drain battery to about 5 - 10%
Turn phone off
Charge from a wall charger (not usb or car)
Do this a couple of times.
It fixed mine for about 6 months and then I just did it again and it sorted it out again.
Also check which radio. 1.17 seems to run cooler by most accounts.
I was initially thinking that there is a program or piece of software maxing out the resources and the cpu causing the extreme heat (the HD gets bloody hot when being pushed) and poor battery life.
Didn't see any relevant threads from a Google search, or a search on here. It's not so much an issue, as it is a potential bug. Sometimes the charge level never goes above 99%. It'll charge from say...70%, to 99%, and never get to 100%. I'm not sure if this is my phone, the battery, or an Android bug. I'm using Hyperdroid with Miri's V19 ROM.

I notice this with my phone too. It takes ages, if ever to get to 100%. When this happens I just boot back into winmo and let it charge there. usually if i'm at 99% in android it only takes about 5 minutes or so for my phone to hit 100% in winmo
as i stated before.
Boot to windows mobile once and charge to 100% make sure you are either hooked up to your charger or connected via active sync (other wise you cant get to your SD card) when the power indicator is Green boot to android.
Now you can drain your batt and charge back to 100%. Quic n dirty fix.
Something that worked for me : power off your phone, remove your battery for 1mn or so, and then it should fully charge in WM and Android.

Yeah thats all fun and games but then you have like 99% when you are back in android and the next time you have to charge you wil have to do it all over again.
If you charge it to 100% in winmo and keep it charging while booting android and you wil start with 100% bat and you wil keep it charging to 100% it may take a tad longer then in winmo but it wil get there every time. I ran my phone for about 3 weeks nonstop and full 100% every time i charged.
Yeah the battery doesn't always seem to charge to 100%
I've been following the IRC Logs and they say to charge in windows mobile sometimes as it could potentially effect your battery if it charges to 90% or 96% etc..

Its so funny all those big workarounds.
Wile all you need to do is charge your phone to 100% boot android while keeping it at 100% and u are home free but it seems my words are lost against a storm of nothingness.

Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I used to have that problem aswell. But after like 2 or 3 unsuccesful charges it started charging all the way to 100% without any problems at all. I also noticed that disabling data connection fixes the problem. For me atleast.
I have a problem with battery on my hd2, i have used an android darkstone V3.1. My mistake was that I let my battery to drain completely while the phone was on android as I mentioned. I`ve turned on the phone, the phone went to native windows and I tried to charge it, but instead of charging I got a massage: battery failure!!!! ((( I pulled the battery off and return it and after that the phone starts charging like usual. After that I didn`t use an android, but, yesterday I let the battery to drain completely (this time on purpose) and I couldn`t turn on the phone or charge it!!!! (( The only solution was to pull the battery of and return it, and time and date was also messed up so I had to change it!
Any clue???
Thanks in advance.
Using Battery Tool, my HD2 on Mango 7720/ISV cleanup regularly charged pretty much 3/4 of total battery charge or in terms of HTC Battery Tool the charges were as follows:
FULL 1230
ACR 935
With that being said I 'd previously run NODO on 2.12 with great reception and the same charging issue. Update to 2.15 with Mango degraded my reception, battery life and preserved the charging issue. Then I started seeing posts claiming that flash to 2.12 in Mango improves the overall experience and one of them literally mentioned the charging issue which allegedly disappeared. Knowing what to expect from 2.12 due to prior NODO experience, I decided to roll it back and see what happens...
First flashed 2.12 over 2.15 with battery approx. quarter down its charge and despite better reception my battery constatly charged only three quarters of total charge. Sooo, after reading couple posts on 2.12 radio, and how the battery charges fully all the way to 100% (using HTC Battery Tool to check this), I finally decided to charge my battery in external charger and than once again reflash 2.12 this time with fully charged battery and...
No more three quarter charge . Will do some repetitive charging to test and confirm but so far it's always charging all the way! .
Hope this helps someone who's suffering the same half ass charging annoyance .
PS: Drawback to this is need for external charger or properly charging phone

Hope this will work also for some other people .
Uhm... WP7 might be considering a theoretical maximum, just like android does with it's battery calibration.
Difference is, Android has on-the-go battery index recalibration. If it reaches the theoretical maximum (100%) and the charge is nowhere near 20/10 mAh, it keeps charging and set's the new maximum to the new charge (i belive it has a arbitrary battery units, at least Android on HTC Kaiser does).
What you're saying is, only flash WP7 if you're charge is at, or near 100% on WM6.5/Android Otherwise WP7 will waste battery charge

Even better... In case that your battery does not charge properly there is no need to repeat WP7 install, only reflash your radio .
Yes, you may ask how device radio rom could have any effect on WP7 installation which comes with it's own radio drivers after all, but today I can attest that it does. My phone is regularly charging all the way to 1190 out of 1230 all the time as opposed to post Mango Rom flash value of 935 and all I did was reflashed device radio with fully charged battery .
Appreciate the Android analogy .
PS: I presume that it does not charge full 1230 due to phone not charging in USB flasher mode and during flashing process
Question, on what wp7 phone is our version based ?

I suppose it's HTC HD7 based as far as drivers for individual device components go. After all, people who are getting their new WP7 Roms activated (on HD2) literally tell Microsoft customer service reps that the activation is for HD7...

Have I missed a post somewhere, how are you reflashing only the radio? I have been wanting to change my radio to one better suited to Australia. I was loathe to go through the entire process of WP7 install again, when essentially I have a bug free functioning install.

Hi.
There is no other way then complete WP7 Rom reflash if you'd like to switch actual WP7 radio but hardware level radio driver (OS independent) can be upgraded/degraded without resetting or reflashing your phone . Note, I am talking about radio e.g. 2.12 and more as made available via the link in post #1.
With that being said, if there's any radio on that list that suits you or if you're in possesion of Australia compatible radio then all you have to do turn of your phone, next hold volume down --> power on your device and wait for the rainbow screen to appear (kernel flash interface ). Once your phone is connected to PC, your interface type will change from serial to usb and do your thing as instructed under the radio rom link in post #1. Let us know how do you and if there's anything else that could possibly prove helpful
Regards to Australia
Interesting.....
I was only getting a 75% charge with Mango and 2.15 so i flashed my radio back to 2.12.
After an immediate restart the battery charge graphic then showed 100%. Weird.
As the amber light was on I left the device charging into it changed to green. I then reflashed back to 2.15 and I have been getting a more accurate battery charge graphic ever since.
Ooh and the bonus, my battery is lasting longer between charges. Yey
Are you supposed to charge the device until green before flashing?
How long does your batt. last? On the worst day I had 4 hours batt. time (with BT on and WIFI on).
Today without WIFI and BT on the batt. seems to be lasting something around 15 hours.
I fully charge to green before I do anything nowadays.
I rarely use WIFI but I do have two email accounts set-up which check for mail every 30 minutes. With moderate talk time and two hour train surfing time I'm getting about 20 hours between charges. Which is considerably more than before.
my battery loses 10% on 30 mins, that's so LOL..
I have 7720 with 2.15.. with camera trick..
i'm gonna try the 2.12.. just a question, DO i need to HARD-RESET(by phone7 about screen) after the radio flashing?

Hi...no, do not hard reset your phone at all. Whenever CustomRUU completes the ROM flash procedure, simply close RUU on your computer screen and your phone will restart (you will be exiting the rainbow/kernel USB interface). Mango install will be fully functional just as before you shut it down prior to flashing new radio .
Srry to hear about your battery drain issues...hope this will help to decrease it by a lot.
Let us know
The only solution that worked for me amongst all the options (based on my experience)
1. Tried the camera trick - NOT WORKED
2. Followed the steps below - NOT WORKED
* Boot the phone to MAGLDR
* Select "Reset" option from the menu
* Phone reboots normally
3. Hard reset the phone - NOT WORKED
4. Charge the phone in magldr USB storage option - NOT WORKED
5. Finally, flashed the 2.12 radio, did the camera trick (not sure if its relevant). The battery life has improved dramatically. It lasts more than 24 hours and still running (26% left) - WORKED.

Hi to everyone
after death of my previous hd2, i bought a brand new one with fully working battery
i installed wp7 with no problem, but changed back to wm because it wasn't my taste. but after that, something strange is happening. my battery works fine, with regular rate between 100 and 60 percent. but after that, it suddenly start falling down (60 to 10 percent in half and hour) no hidden active program or network activity
i tested everything. tried different roms, radios, even getting back to original spl and stock rom. but nothing helped
is installing wp7 capable of damaging the battery?
is there any way to recalibrate or wipe HD2 battery?
does anyone have similar problem?
thanks
Hi!
Have you tried running you battery completely down and recharge it fully again several times? That "trick" helped me get some more juice out of mine Seems like the OS can't read the voltage correctly before it has had several complete cycles...
