Show some love for Samsung? - Vibrant General

It's should have to be said that almost everyone bashes Samsung for one reason or the other but to be honest, I think Samsung has been listening to the consumer. Although, the lack of communication with consumers is its greatest downfall.
For example,
-Compress and GPS are been fixed actively (although not perfect, there's effort being put into the issue).
-Unlike Motorola and HTC, Samsung didn't include mechanism that makes tweaking harder (eg. efuse, and the whole G2 fiasco).
-Fixes for some of the smallest bugs, JI6 fixes alot of random quirks, such as Allshare now display the correct aspect ratio, to Calendar Alarm fix, Message Client crash, etc. Stuff that only a handful of people have express concerns over.
-Kies for updates (Kies Mini for Vibrant was extremely generous)
-Source Codes for Froyo released in a timely manner.
As stated above, the biggest downside to Samsung is the company's lack of communication with the buyers. If they can just be a bit more proactive I am sure people would trust it as much as they trust HTC or Motorola (Droid Series), etc.

When they make something that works properly (like their crappy software which won't update my phone with bugs in it)... then maybe I'll think about it.

When is the last time a piece of software doesn't have bugs in it.
Other softwares with bugs:
Windows .... Check.
Mac.... Check.
iOS......Check.
Android is no exception, or just look at G2 and it's state of chaos.
Oh, and the all mighty Bionix Rom develop here by XDA dev? Bugs, even more than stock, every revision gets a huge bugs fix, and more pops up. Software will never get completely perfect.

I don't understand what you're saying..... that we should say good things about Samsung because they suck as bad as Microsoft?
For the record, even Apple software ports run better on a PC than any of Samsung's apps...which is pretty sad because iTunes sucks something fierce on Windows.

Just my 2 cents.

I think it's just her.
I'm loving Samsung for providing Kies Mini for us and all the work they're doing trying to updates out the door. They've got what....9 or 12 phones running Android and just announced more within the past week.

I'm loving the screen in general. I was considering the G2 but just the 1.3 gigs and its LCD screen are too much of a downgrade for me. Plus I can't live without root!

I personally did not have problem with kies and I was even using a 64 bit OS. Now, people have problem folowing directions. I see so many times Kies diesnt recognize the phone because 1) phone not in kies mode 2) not usibg default launcher 3) didnt bother to install driver. All of which were addressed in the instructions.

1% of its userbase experiencing such problems equates to hardware/software incompatibilities and/or the biggest reason for software problems, ID10T errors.

I say if people don't like it get rid of it. Done

This is my 2nd Samsung phone and the 2nd time I have had these problems. A motorola driver has never crapped out on me, and Motorola phone tools never took over my USB bus, disabling all other devices on it.
Kies did and I had to uninstall it if I wanted any network connectivity on my desktop. Conversely, HTC and Motorola drivers and software work like they are supposed the first time I run them.
There's definitely a reason that Samsung is in 3rd place behind them. Given the issues that the Galaxy S, their flagship device has.... I don't see them overtaking either of those two companies anytime soon.

Hate to break it to you, but Samsung is already the #2 mobile phone manufacturer in the world, after Nokia.

iTunes and the iPhone updating system has had it's fair share of USB related and just bug related problems when updating software or restoring. Nice error messages they give you. Googling them brings you a plethora of people complaining right on the official Apple forums (a rarity because the forum is nazi-moderated).
I have no serious issues with my Vibrant. I know what I like and what I don't. I don't like stock Android.. I know that for certain. Same with a large QWERTY device. Not my thing anymore. I know that people like to ***** and moan on forums, a LOT. The G2 forum has already been graced with a "where is mai andriod 3.0s???" thread and a TON of complains/bugs. From poor signal, to random reboots, from loose hinges, to complaints about where they have the USB port.

Samsung is O K
I have worked with sooo many systems over the last 15 years........ All have their problems. Samsung Galaxy phones are one of the better ones I have dealt with. I tweaked my very first cell phone in the 1980's (set it up with a fake ring tone).
The important thing is notice how many very very good custom ROM and tweaks have come out for this phone That speaks to how much people like the phone. Like I have said before... the phone makers can and must do better.......alot of the lame bugs are because of laziness or just being in a rush. My Vibrant is a great phone. I just want a perfect phone just like all the techies in this forum.

New Galaxy S keep it or return it?

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Galaxy S (Bell Vibrant) for my wife, she saw it and really liked and i was pretty familiar with the specs and all that and all the good reviews so i jumped in and got it. Now since she has it (4 days) the phone has turned itself off for no reason twice and has also frozen a couple of times with one of them being when i was showing it to an apple fanboy (embarrassed). But anyway now my wife isnt very happy with it because she says it feels very light and cheap and she thinks it would break very easy and also complains about it turning off. Today she saw the icrap 4 in the store and she liked it and now she wants that . She says it feel that it wont break easy and its stylish . Now i dont like the iphone at all and i really dont want to return the SGS and get that but i want whats best for my wife. I just read so much on this forum about all the problems people have with this phone turning off, freezing, lag, screen problems, gps, touch buttons, bad audio quality and a few more... I wonder on the screen i dont know if it will last a year before it starts tint issues burn ins and so on. Now i want to know do you guys think this phone would last at least a year two and do you think all this stuff will be sorted out or should i get her the icrap 4. I really dont like that iphone but it seems suitable for my wife as all she wants is somthing that works takes decent pictures and looks good. Please let me know what you guys think as this is really pita.
Sorry for the long and confusing post..
you keep the SGS and get her the "iwantwhateverybodywantsphone"
SGS is not for the normal person
SGS is for people with computer knowledge and linux understanding and windows haters
SGS is a amazing phone if you know how to use it, and keep it clean, the same techniques used in windows works the same in Android, and it does wonderful stuff
ironically in windows those solutions never last, in Android you do it once, and it remains forever set.
no GPS problem, no lag, no lag fix, no freeze, no turning off on its own, it works perfectly on JH2
your description of the phone "turning off" could be either a battery problem, or the phone ran out of memory due all the background apps no closing off and releasing the memory back
Shes got her mind set on the Iphone4, get it and live happy. If not she'll be whinning about it til contract is up or divorce (which ever is faster)

Yes i know how it is with Android as i am pretty familiar with it. I have a X10 myself and i love it to bits, i dont think im ready to switch it for an SGS. However i am not doubting the software of the SGS but the hardware, my main concern is the screen, i see a lot of people here that have problems with it so my concern is durabilty and lifespan i also see a lot of people on here who sent their phone for repair numerous times and that scares me. Now my wife is not set on the iphone as she is not a big fan of apple herself and shes heard me ***** about how bad and limited it is all the time but she just wants a reliable smartphone that she can depend on and not have it crap out by itself for no reason. She likes the SGS but she also likes the design of the crap 4 and she asked me if that would be more stable and not give problems. I told her that i am waiting on a update (froyo) and all the bugs will be probably fixed. Anyway like i stated before its the hardware thats is troubling me. Do you guys think it will last, more specifically the screen. Also can you recommend me wich firmware to use and wich lagfix? as i see there is a few out there, or should i wait for the official froyo release? Thank you for all your help, i really apreciate it.

Haha yes that is true. But the wife doesnt really care about the iphone and she is not set for it completly or somthing. She just said she likes the design lol. And if it would work better to get her that. So i am pretty unfamiliar with Samsung phones thats why im doubting it. I know all previous samsungs were crappy and buggy as hell and with weird menus etc.. So now we have the SGS wich is the first phone that i actually like from Samsung but i still have my doubts thats why i am asking you guys.

I'm sorry but some of your posts are ridiculous.
"SGS is for windows haters and people with Linux undersanding"?
WTF
I'm sure the Bell rep makes you fill out a pre-requisite form before you take away a SGS to make sure you have Linux knowledge and hate windows... Thats how they are marketing the phone too...??
This phone is being marketed to the main stream.
And as far as JH2 being perfect. Guess what? When my SGS died I had already updated it to JH2. I got it back from repair on Friday, its JH2 still, and it has turned off on its own twice now. Fresh from being wiped and repaired. Just browsing these forums and seeing all the people with the same issues JH2 or otherwise is a clear indication that there are some serious issues with this phone. Oh, and my co-worker who picked one up after me has now had to send his in for repair as it died. Its his first smart phone, with all of 5 apps installed, so don't try to blame it on hacking or rooting.
You're apologetic fanboy like posts are getting tiring to be honest.
/rant
As for the original poster. Take it back and get your wife an iPhone 4 if thats what she wants. Apple fan boys drive me nuts too, I know, after my SGS died on me I have never heard the end of it..
Well i definitely see where you are coming from and understand your lack of interest on the SGS
but i'm coming from a total 180, and this is the perfect phone, everything came out as planned, from spec, to speed, to software, to features, to funtionality, to well you name it, everything works the way i expected it to work out of the box
way better than windows devices
i've been through a lot of smartphones before, and nothing comes close to the SGS, all previous "smartphones" were nothing but disasters and let downs
just the same way you think about the SGS i think about the HTC devices and the Blackberries, and the Treo600.
However the Treo650 was quite decent, albeit slow online but it was way better than its predecessor in every other aspect.
I still prefer PalmOS over Windows
put either Android or Palm OS on any device with good spec better than SGS and I'm all over it.
right now at this point in time the SGS is the creme of the crop, the supremacy, the top of the top
Looking forward to next years contenders

Hey there, I bought the i9000 on recommendation from two friends that were both iPhone users that switched to nexus ones and never looked back. I have been a blackberry user for about 7 years and gone through (destroyed) most of them. This is my first smartphone and i was looking for something with minimal buttons (to break) and a good screen and good battery life. I didn't realize i was also going to end up with a mini super computer! Lagfix not only solved all lag issues, it now performs like a pack of rabid monkeys... on a touch sensitive leash. I have had no issues with the screen, rebooting, or any other hardware related problems. Any issues were related to my inexperience with android which is how i found this place. Just be careful... so while i can't give you any further information about the hardware, I have to warn you that there is a lot of information about rooting Vibrants that doesn't apply to the i9000 even though they are relatively identical, most importantly the recovery hotkey combination.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. My i9000 is rooted with MCR Script lagfix, GPS fix, and SetCPU on Performance. Its lightning quick, bloody bright, and about 1000x more than I ever could have hoped for out of a smartphone.

I am on my second Bell i9000m GXY S. Me and my girlfriend bought one just over a month ago.
Mine suddenly died. I had done many flashes and other such things on it, but that wasn`t the cause. The cause was a bad MoviNand chip. Samsungs chip that runs the phone. Before I even modified the phone I was having Force closes. Random reboots and other errors. Having to do battery pulls to get your brand new $600+ phone to work is ridiculous.
I came to Android from Blackberry. Being an apple hater I had no other real choice in my market.
My second Galaxy S (replacement under warranty) came in today. Before I touched anything root it had 2 force closes. It froze once so far under heavy use.
My girlfriends is completely stock and after a couple weeks has random reboots, and other errors similar to mine. I fear her phone will go the same as my first (and likely second) did.
I love the phone but the i9000m seems very buggy and unreliable. I can`t use it for an alarm because 1 out of 20 times it will freeze in the middle of the night. Hers too; which is stock.
It seems to be more of a problem with the Bell variants of the phone, as I see other bell users with the same problems more often then American customers.
I would really wait to make any permanent impressions on the phone until Samsung releasestheir Froyo FW update and possibly fixes the bigger problems with the i9000m.
So I wouldnt push you one way or the other, but be prepared to take that galaxy s off your woman`s hands and buy her a crapple. I may be taking my girlfriends and getting her a Desire HD or whatever HTC releases next in my market. HTC for my friends seems to be rock solid. Again thats just my view and I am probably inaccurate since I don`t own an HTC.
If samsung doesn`t fix the GPS bug (which I have run into on both our phones--- one stock and mine on several roms) and the crashing (stock) on the next couple of updates I will not be buying Samsung again, but will be sticking with Android. I have tried to use the GPS in 3 provinces and 4 states and its really accurate for me less then half the time.

Say what? Froyo isn't released yet. Nothing is forgotten before you actually have an officially released product on your phone. Stop being a retard and don't pollute threads with problems about inofficial firmwares. 3g is not entirely perfect on the released firmwares, but it's definetely there.

and disable all the apps that you don't need to be running in the background all the time
it doesn't matter how "smart" are the smartphones now in days, it's still a freaking computer, if it's not optimized, it will just go crazy
i don't even have a task killer installed, as it's not necessary, as long as you maintain the list of apps you allow it to run in the background then the rest is smooth sail.
i9000m stock JH2, no lag fix, the only fix installed is the SMS time fix

X10 is a stylish phone, its heavy and looks durable. So why not try to switch (assuming she doesn't mind using your "old phone" .. , and you two are on the same network / phones are unlocked)
Being a sgs owner I would recommend you to return it, it has too many issue straight out of the box. This phone requires alot attention, fixes, patient and time. It does have the potential to better then any mobile out there at this time but only if you posses the aforementioned qualities.
My advice get her desire HD or desire, she will appreciate it more then an iphone.
HTC Desire is really popular within the UK even amongst the women because it is easy to use and is works brilliantly out of the box.

As everyone more or less said:
- install the lagfix!
A) if you're technically inclined, flash the rom to something stable and tested by many (yet unofficial and "beta"): JM8 + voodoo b4 (it's in the dev forum)
B) if you're not, get one click lag fix from the market, it doesn't get any simpler! follow the program instructions, and be done with it
Let her play with it for a while with lagfix.
About the hardware quality, i got a i9000 (not i9000m), there's many different SGS and even with the same design might come from different factories etc etc.
Mine is extremely strong even being plastic, i'm very happy about that so far.
Also it's thin and light and has a big screen.
The iPhone4 has a smaller screen, and its a lot heavier than the SGS.
Additionally, you need to add a cover (bumper, case, etc) around the phone to alleviate antenna issues (granted you don't _need_ but it's very highly recommended), so you lose all the neat design factor.
After exposing her these arguments and showing up the lagfixed phone, let her decide. If she wants the iPhone4 (or Desire HD or what not), then just go for it and ebay the SGS many will buy it.

Ok so the Vibrant is not that old but seems like its forgotten already. Well the whole Galaxy S series! Bs since its only like 4 months old. cant wait for dual core smartphones with dedicated gpu.
4.5" screen
5+mp camera w/ flash and dedicated camera button
actual hard buttons
and of course ANDROID
And of course with the same 13-1500mAh batteries these has, so we'll have like 5000 threads about terrible battery life, etc.
Personally, I don't think there is anything great about the Vibrant outside of the screen. That was Samsung's main selling point. The GPU is good, but there are now apps popping up left and right that are claiming "No Support for Samsung Galaxy S."
Yahoo Messenger for Android now has no Support for Galaxy S, Lol.
Not going to bother buying another Samsung phone anyways, but certainly not going to buy another phone with internals outside of the mainstream.
I personally view them going in another direction IRT hardware has a massive failure. That's like buying a Windows Computer with an AMD Processor, and Microsoft telling you Live Messenger isn't supported on you computer because you got AMD instead of Intel, or Microsoft Office won't run on your computer because you're running Windows Vista instead of 7, or WoW won't run on your computer because you got an ATI instead of an NVidia. Massive failure, IMO.
Apps > Hardware.
Then there's the issue of a bunch of apps simply being incompatible due to the phone only having Android 2.1...
If you expect a Nexus S or whatever to change that, then I dunno what to say. 90% of high end smartphones run Snapdragons and most don't run TouchWiz, so developers will continue to target architectures which are the majority - as they should, cause targetting Samsung's phone and ending up with apps that crash and burn on all those other phones would be utterly retarded.

Got in the site... i figured it out and didn't have to watch that whole video lol
Please tell me your not mad that technology is advancing. Really? Is it such a bad thing? Nobody is forcing you to go out and buy the newest, fastest and greatest device. Personally I think while the vibrant may lack in 2.2 and some other things like flash and a 4.3" screen or HSPA+ it more than makes up for in MONSTER graphics computing, overall speed, a beautiful 4" SAMOLED screen and a camera that takes pretty amazing pics. I did expect better support from samsung considering the phone is across all carriers However I did buy the phone as is so I cant complain too much. it still holds its own against any other device out right now. Plus... The Nexus 2 will basically be a Galaxy S so we should see easy porting to our devices once gingerbread is released and android 3.0.
Hopefully we'll see some advanced implimentation of battery technology to make these handsets last a while with usage. Cause I don't want to see another ZOMG! I got 47 hours of battery.... with everything off.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Thing about it is, I thought about this too.. What is out that your phone can't do? It can run all the latest apps, and will even be able to support gingerbread. You could have a 5ghz phone, but what good will it do? The 1/4 second that it would be quicker would not be noticeable.
Galaxy S. Maybe the next version will include the P, so it will have a GPS~
Slow down??? Hell no! Speed up with new devices already. And the Vibrant is just fine. I use it, it has an awesome screen, and new updates get uploaded on XDA almost on a daily basis. And I love watching new phones appear. It just means that by the time I get around to another upgrade in about 14 months, the phones at that time will be that much better. So keep innovating, companies, and improving and releasing new phones.

Has anyone noticed the multitude of G2 ads everywhere? Seems like HTC is really pushing the advertising with that phone...i dont understand because i have messed with the phone and i dont think its really that good. any agree?

What exactly are you talking about. No one is complaining about technology advancing. People are complaining mostly (and mostly indirectly) about the rate at which hardware/devices are deprecated and forgotten about.
Lots of people come from a long background in using computers, so they are not used to seeing a 1 year old device become "unsupported" for the most part.

Yes, those threads piss me off so much I don't even open battery threads anymore unless it's one I posted in and there's a chance a reply may be directed at me.
Most people with great battery life hardly use the phone. I get 20 hours easy when it sits there in Standby for 18.5 of those hours. Once I start using the phone, the battery is crap. I actually had to uninstall some very useful applications so the battery wouldn't commit suicide.

Yep. Actually noticed the G2 add play 3x tonight. The hinge is crap, but at least the phone works as expected.
A phone doesn't have to be "really that good" to be worth the investment. In many cases, like the Vibrant, when the phone is supposed to be "really that good" it just turns out to be a failed result of overreaching.
I got this phone because it had a lot of storage in it, and it's not like T-Mobile had that many choices when it came to high end smartphones when the Vibrant was released. Some people replying to posts act like the G2, MyTouch4G, HD7, etc. were being sold in stores in July/August.
There was the HD2, and the Vibrant. That's it. The rest of T-Mobile's phones were utter crap.

This right here. What should have been a wonderful experience has been badly sullied by non-existent support.
Buying a phone on a 2 year contract and finding out that the phone isn't even properly supported for 4 months should be enough to piss anyone off.

Samsung thinks that 2.2 is a marketing Gimmick?

Ok I know that its bad to jump to conclusions on this but I was listening to a recent podcast on Engadget where they were talking about Samsung devices. I saw it on their site and I knew I just had to listen having a Vibrant. I was enjoying their bashing about on things and then they mentioned that a Samsung rep told them that they think of 2.2 as a marketing gimmick. I'm sure that's just some guy who doesn't understand what 2.2 or 2.3 do for our phones.
But what do you think about that? I mean looking at how long it takes to get updates for the phone, does a part of you believe that this maybe true?
What's your thoughts?

it doesn't really matter we get 2.2 or 2.3(your dream only) or not. It only matters they sell it more or even more.
Well, I can almost guarantee that the Froyo update is gonna be held until after the holiday season. T-Mobile is as guilty as Samsung for this. They think that people will opt for the newer phones with 2.2 and don't want their sales diminished by having it available on older handsets.
Personally, I don't think the average consumer cares that much. Only people like us and similar communities keep on top of what each version does better than it's predecessor.
In the end, you're far better off flashing one of the ROMs here anyway. I've got buddies at work still kickin' it with the G1 due to it's versatility. Why would I want the 2.2 update from T-mobile? Crappy TouchWiz, bloatware and all that nastiness. Only thing I can see it useful for is if I wanted to send in the phone for warranty work.
+1 im on the onyx rom right now and tell you the truth the only thing i want an official 2.2 froyo from tmobile would be to iron out the very lil tiny things thats wrong on this rom other than that i can care less ..
as for gingerbread 2.3 im pretty sure we will have it due to the amazing work of people like som, viral, eugene, and master.

If that were the case, ATT, Sprint, and Verizon would all have released Froyo for their GalaxyS devices. So yeah, I pin the blame on Samsung...
I do find it hard to believe that t-mobile is to blame here considering the other galaxy s devices that have yet to implement as well.
And yes it's true a rom here would be a lot better. Not to say that an official rom would be terrible. All roms have bugs, but you would think by now that samsung would want the best for their consumers. Even if they don't know what 2.2 is. Oh and if you were wondering, yes I'm still on the stock rom. I'm just not ready to redo all my settings on my phone when I update to a new rom.

Yeah, I am frustrated with the Samsung heading into Android as well.
They marketed Galaxy S as a such a great phone (which it is) with the ability to upgrade it to the latest (at the time of the launch) OS within months, yet they have released new hardware - Galaxy Tab - with 2.2, and keep the Galaxy S phone users out dry - thanks to these boards I do not have to rely on them, but I did void the warranty by rooting my device and installing the custom ROM. And now they are already marketing Gingerbread platform that will ultimately become second Google dev phone, and again let everyone dry on a Galaxy S phone market.
I do want to get the real Google phone, and knowing that I don't have to rely on the carriers to release the update for me, but seeing how it will be a Samsung device makes me uneasy.

Plug in a set of headphones or an AUX cable to a stereo with no microphone built in and make a call. You'll find something wrong then.
Oh yeah, do you have an external SD card bigger than 2gb? If so, try copying more than 2gb of data to it.

Nope, because it is in the hands of Samsung.
Google release the OS to the manufacturers and carriers, and it trickledowns from there.
The exception Nexus One, since it is a Google phone made by HTC.

According to T-Mobile, Google is the one that pushed out the 2.2 OTA for the myTouch3g 1.0.
Google can't push out updates for phones like the Vibrant, Droid X, HTC Evo, etc. because of TouchWiz, Motoblur and Sense. Google has absolutely no way to update those manufacturer customizations, they can only push stock android to devices.

Samsung is busy kicking out leading edge hardware with little resources available to post sales support. So far samsung has distanced themselves from competitors while alienating some customers. You're talking about a plain old set of headphones that DO NOT have a mic built in? Or an AUX cable to a stereo (again, with NO MIC)? And you get call audio through the headphones and use the phone's built-in mic?
That's funny, because if so, you're the only one that it works for.
Remember: NO MIC BUILT INTO THE HEADPHONES.

Yeah, you won't see any problems if you use an inline mic, or a headset w/mic. I have a plain, no mic AUX cable to my car stereo - I listen to music, and when a call comes in I answer it and call audio comes through my car speakers and I talk using the phone's built-in mic.
As for the SD, yeah, I tried re-mounting it on the phone, and even formatting it on the phone too, but nothing fixed the fact that it was only showing up as a 2.2gb drive in Windows' Device Manager.
The galaxy s is a fine device with really good hardware.. and I really don't have a big of an urge to have froyo, though it would be nice if i could have it on my phone.. but i think samsung is just behind in other aspects knowing that the mobile industry is very highly competitive... from a business perspective, samsung may be all about their sales and profit while ignoring oring their customers' complaints and needs... it's pretty obvious that majority of smarphone users are not power users, nor do they even know what the android os is, but still, samsung must deliver and execute an effective strategy that can refrain the power users from considering another brand.. htc and motorola are doing well in supporting their devices, samsung must do the same if they want to remain in the competition..
what i dont understand is.. what is preventing them from releasing an update that the end-users yearn for when the tab is already on 2.2 and Europe has it too.. oh, it must the customizations from different carriers that is hindering and prolonging the said update.. ughh..
I wonder what our xda devs think, I feel like many of the awesome devs here couldve led a team to get froyo on the Vibrant and had it done long, long ago. Then again I know nothing about development so I'd be interested to read what the more experienced devs think, is it reasonable for it to take this long in the hands of skilled devs? Or does it seem like an incapable personnel problem at Samsung?
Anyway, i would think Sam would want to release it before xmas because after tethering, flash, more ram, all kinds of improvements its like a whole new generation of SGS it gives them a whole new advertising campaign. At least thats how I see it, when i got froyo for my nexus it was like getting a whole new phone.
Maybe people who dont know better will not miss 2.2, but considering its massive popularity, eventually the very ubiquitous SGS is going to be so far behind that it will become prominent news and even novice Android owners are going to take Samsung's inability to update into account when it comes time to replace their SGS. Surely Samsung realizes this.
Personaly I absolutely love their hardware, Ive had three HTC Androids and this one Samsung and its my favorite hardware, but Samsung is now at least below HTC and Moto when I look for my next phone, updates are way more important than Samsung wants them to be.

Samsung now failes with Windows phone updates!

Let's just face it, Samsung needs to change their name to Samsuck, first the failure with the Froyo update, now with Windows phones. Check it out.
Except for the minor detail that Microsoft is failing in this case bot Samsung.
I'm not so sure. There aren't a whole lot of details flying around about what's actually behind the errors. The only thing we know for sure is that it's only affecting Samsung handsets. While it's tempting to be Generic Open Advocate A and dish the blame on Microsoft, we're all sitting here well aware of Samsung's inability to build a device with a smooth update process.
Personally, I'm suspicious of the microSD cards. Samsung WP7 handsets were widely praised for having accessible microSD slots. I'm just wondering if any of the folk having issues did any tinkering in that regard.

There is absolutely no evidence in saying that this was Samsungs fault. Zero. Nadda.
Our phones all of our updates have been rather painless despite the delays.. the 2.1 ota's all went fine, the EB13 update works perfect if you install it the Samsung way (Odin-wizard you get from their site).
OTA's will always be prone to failures, especially if it's a big upgrade like 2.1 to 2.2. It introduces to many variables, some it will be perfect, others it will brick the phone.

Regardless of who is to blame, the fact remains that it only seems to affect Samsung phones.
My phone on Eclaire was never rooted, just bone stock, and I updated the Samsung way from their site with the large .exe file the night they released, and I have issues, my GPS is flaky still, my compass is hosed, TWS issues still, browser checker-boarding etc., etc. The same issues many folks complain of, so it is not perfect if one installed it the Samsung Odin way.
Samsung needs to get it together in the mobile phone department.
They released 2.2 to shut us up.. It wasn't ready anyway. This is why they are still working on it .
And yet, we're all here!
That's because Sammy makes killer hardware. The best. So, we stay anyway, ***** and moan, and rely on our amazing dev community the do the software engineering. Even with all our frustration with Sapstung, this model seems enough for almost all of us to get over the threshold to satisfaction.
Samsung's probably quite satisfied with that model too!

I agree samsung makes amazing hardware, which is why I am so surprised that they are using the tegra 2 in their tablet. Tegra 2 is about the worst dual core that android is gonna run. Can't believe they would do that, especially because the tegra 2 is incapable of playing back high profile h.264 at L4.1, which our phones handle flawlessly and the original ipad handles flawlessly. Makes no sense. Releasing a tablet a year after the original ipad which is INCAPABLE of matching it with regards to media playback is ridiculous.

This is why Android sucks - Update hell

Samsung has a great tablet but it is rapidly falling behind others in the updates.
And the BS about only rolling in certain markets to alienate customers.
Who does that?
Who in their right mind thinks that is a great idea?
So everywhere else your paying customers don't get the update they deserve.
Also we still don't have touchwiz, but Samsung is rolling out updates to certain people wtf? Some got Touchwiz, some got Google Movies, mine shows jack / nada / zilch.
Honestly, I don't know what Samsung's logic is for all this but it just sucks.
Stop whining.

And you still got a GT 10.1 because...?
i do totally agree with you about Samsung really, really sucking it in the update department. The problem with Samsung is they build really awesome and powerful devices but they just don't build the software to match up with them. That is why we have XDA. Dude you can run touchwhiz and you can update. Just give it some time and you will see some better things on here that Samsung can't even come close to touching. This is a brand new tab and only a few weeks old. Give everyone a chance to pick one up and then this forum is going to blow up.
OP Samsung is a hardware company, google is the one who developed android. Because android does not belongs to Samsung thats why samsung cant do anything about updates and stuff. You can see Apple's updates moves fast because they are both hardware and software manufacturer so they can do fast updates they have one device to fix it. Google has so many devices to take care of and so many regions to consider. So it will take more time than usual. As you can see on samsung website that they uploaded the new drivers for pc and mac which was fast update because that update was in their hand. Samsung has nothing to blame about update if you want to blame then blame google.
Once ics comes out and the source is released there won't be a problem.
you are right about google
But the hardware vendors are responsible for the updates.
So it is Samsung.
Google has no idea how they are going to enforce update policy and there is no guarantee Samsung will even upgrade the 10.1.
i don't understand way people complain about updates. If it is that important root and flash.

Actually 8. 2 iPhone's, 2 iPod Touches, 4 iPad's. #justsayin
Android is to college as the iPad is to high school. It's more work but the rewards are greater.
There are plenty of people happy with the iPad. Personally, I'm not going to settle for a device that my grandmother can use.
I'll never understand why people are so hell bent on having the latest upgrade of the OS on the devices they use. It's an over the top emotional quest for some.
The Galaxy Tab is a tool, a means to the end. It's not the end itself.
These are the same people that get a new car every two years because their car looks dated. It's a status thing that makes no sense.
If you can run the apps you need on the Galaxy Tab then it matters not what version Android is installed.

I'm sure that's the case for some and I agree with some of what you say, but I can say for me, however, that it is the allure of the promise of improved functionality. Anything that makes my device harder, better, faster, stronger is all right by me. Of course, roms can do that too, but some prefer "official" whether the reason is snobbery, stock OCD, timidness, what have you.

I look outside my office and see 10 cubicles, all with PCs running Windows XP. It's stable and runs like a work horse. And, you know what? They get their job done every day and go home at the end of the week with a paycheck. Never once have they asked for Windows 7.
I simply can't imagine what the next version of Android, or Touchwiz, will do for the average user to make it worth venting about on a public forum simply because they didn't get it NOW.
