Topic basically says it all at this point. International i9000 2.2 Froyo source code is now available at http://opensource.samsung.com/ .
tarball of this build is being tossed around on the i9000 forums for the curious...
Downloading source incredibly slowly atm...
awesome,
so what do we have to do to get it?
since its a update zip we can just put it on out sd card and do a recovery?
a little confused lol

then I guess I was wrong, then again I am somewhat of a newbie.
Don't the carriers now each need to "customize" it to their own networks?

You are correct. Also, the kernel needs to be adjusted for each version of the phone.

Newb here as well.
Carriers aside, what does this source mean for developers like bionix, cyanogen, etc.
I've been reading that developers have been waiting on the source, is this what they are talking about?

the filesystem is ubi.img using UBIFS (successor to JJFS2).

I though about that after I posted the link.
Hey, time to check this out
Doubt it is anything... probably samfirmwares trying to get some traffic.
Downloading now...I don't expect anything special but we will see.
is this not the rumored model number of the nexus S?
disappointed to hear its still using RFS... so here's hoping that's either untrue or it /isn't/ the nexus S firmware.

No but I wonder if the nexus s is actually a variant of this and not a variant of the i9000. The nexus s is supposedly i9020 not i9200

Also, you need to make sure your distro supports UBIFS. It's a rather *new* file system format but from what I have heard Fedora 11 does.. have to redownload my copy though ;/

you also need mtd utils, most distros support this as well, but here is the git if your distro doesn't support it out of the box: git://git.infradead.org/mtd-utils.git
UBIFS git here: git://git.infradead.org/ubifs-2.6.git
I got past all the errors and the on the last step couldn't mount the ubifs.

That is so Cool. I wonder if any devs will be able to open up the file and see what mysteries are held inside. 50/50 chance that it could be Gingerbread? You guys think so.
DLing now, will see what can be put apart
Can I flash it with ODIN?
sounds interesting. hoping some developers can dig into it and figure out what it is

***Edit This was a custom rom that must have been installed on the phone, sorry for the title***
I had an Epic that was purchased back in August that I traded for an EVO in December. After a month with the EVO, I couldn't take the on screen keyboard anymore so I traded my EVO for an Epic that was a week old.
It hasn't been rooted or messed with and when I looked at the system info it said it was running 2.2.1 Froyo DK28
Did Samsung start shipping new phones with 2.2.1??
I know 2.2.1 isn't official yet but I have been out of the Epic loop for a month so I wanted to see if this was a fluke or what.
Either you think you're being funny or you've got someone else's flashed phone. It's running DK28, which isn't a release build.
That isn't the official froyo build. It looks like that's a phone that was exchanged for a di18 phone back in december. Or maybe its a refurb that wasn't flashed back to di18.

Honestly I don't think I am being funny, It was a valid question since the phone isn't rooted I wasn't sure.
Is the leaked DK28 flashable without rooting through Odin? If so that would make sense, I just wasn't sure and that's why I asked.

Sorry, but we've had more than our fair share of Froyo pranks on here and I'm sure you've heard the story about the boy who cried wolf.
In any case, the unmodded DK28 is unrooted, so it's quite possible for this to happen. If Sprint gave you this phone, they're not doing a very good job of resetting it back to factory defaults.
That's for sure. I got mad as soon. As I read the ops thread but I guess he really didnt know.

So how is it looking?
Digging through it now...
Appears they went ahead and released source for the Epic too
Im not a dev by any means, but I would assume that the source code and kernal should be set uppretty similar for our Captivates (minus the parts that refer to look for a CDMA radio instead of GSM) on 2.2 and hopefully the good devs here will be able to rip out the good stuff and incorporate into their own roms.
Go get 'em devs!
i896 source is available too. But no one wants it =.=
^ i guess when it come to kernel sources beggars can be choosers. Rogers 2.2 sources have been out a while and i can only think of one person taking advantage of them for a Froyo AOSP Rom.
Whats wrong with the rogers sources?
Why use source from a different phone?
If the Defy can do it, why can't we? It has a locked bootloader too. I bet I sound pretty stupid because there is something I'm missing, but oh well...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
A quick glance says that they're using update.zip files to clobber /system, so they're not touching the bootloader. So this should be doable, although I believe that our CWM could use some more work.

I wonder if he'd be willing to give some devs pointers. Or even attempt this himself
It all starts here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026853
We'd have to port that before anything else...
He says something about Korean developers... Ah ha! That's what has been missing from this equation all along!
Yeh, you are probably right. And as next step would be understanding the current cm7 defy port and maybe try do to the same thing using cm7 harmony as a base.
I could try doing it, I'm a quite experienced java developer (6+ years) and wouldn't have problems learning it BUT, as I already sold my old Nexus One, Atrix is my current phone and I don't wanna risk it... =/
