T-Mobile logo placement :( - G2 and Desire Z General

Is it just me, or is the T-Mobile logo at the top of the phone a millimeter too low? It seems like the gap between it and the screen is less than the gap between it and the speaker? This is and the issue with the loose hinge, the capital "E" in the "mEnu" button, the weak speaker, and the huge gap between the screen and the LCD are really starting to make me really question whether T-Mobile or HTC even care about QC.

i certainly hope that this is a joke

Return the phone dude you have a defect. That's unacceptable to have the logo a mm too low. And while you are at it write HTC about it too, they NEED to know.

why can't the human race just get wiped out already, it amazes me that people like the OP don't kill themselves.
@OP your face is not quite symmetrical i think you need to cut the freckles out of your face, and possibly shave your cheek down some on the left side, and go ahead and use a rusty knife for those tasks

Screen glass movment

Has anyone noticed if you press on the glass that it moves? Is this normal?
It seems far more pronounced at the top left of the glass screen.

To true getting tired i need a holiday, but anyway what i notice is when i put my back on and press down on the back to slide it up i can hear the screen creaking as if is popping up and down on the glue
i think its a joke how the forum seems to have a "it will do" attitude. I think its pathetic how these things are built! I shouldnt have to pay £400 for something thats built poorly. Yes the screen not being flush with the plastic or the screen moving or making creaking sounds may "not bother you" but it will when three months down the line things stop working like the phone speaker which has happened to a few already. Im sure by then because they wont see this as a MAJOR fault dell will just say..you dropped it and broke it.
Need a petition because I have real OCD with this phone and i want it PERFECT!.

Nothing will ever be perfect, what a childish request. Considering how thin the Streak is, of coarse it will wear under any semi-hard conditions like sliding the battery cover on if not held properly. You may even be flexing the screen on accident in your pocket or while using.

No I dont even put it in my pocket. Iv kept it at home in its little case, reason being I use a normal phone when out and about untill I get 2.2 on there.
Fair enought I dont want it perfect but its still a ISSUE...it wont be untill people realise that all these phones mess up in a years time due to this little issue. The side can only get more and more raised it wont fix itself magically.
Its like you going to buy a brand new car and finding the front bumper is slightly out of line...are you going to just put up with it?
Its even been mentioned on some forums as maybe the reason its not released in the US. I mean people over the pond dont have the ****ty "it'll do attitude" they have the "if I dont get what I pay for I will sue" attitude which a much more prefer!
Its a HUGE defect for the screen to be dodgey and the top plastic half to be pealing off!
How are people on their 4th streak? What the hell are you doing to them?
I've had my streak for about 2-3 weeks now. No creaks, no loose fittings, no non-working speakers. not sure why i'm bothering listing things as everything about this phone is brilliant (except the camera )
Best build quality of any phone i've ever had. Good job dell i say.
Its inevitable that a phone so big and so thin will get bent and twisted and will wear as a result. With regards to the quality issue its mostlikely due to the mass production of the phone as cheaply as possible. Although I agree the quality of the streak is fantastic it's also inevitable that some will be defective
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
No problems here thus far all good
I've just watched that video where the streak is taken apart and i've come to the conclusion that its probably the glass and screen moving as one inside the case on the back. Hopefully this is the case as it would mean that the glue between the glass and screen is fully intact and could also explain the cracking the other poster was experiencing.
what the people with the "good" phones dont seem to understand is the difference between wear and just coming out of the box. These problems with the screen being flush have been since opening the box and not after use...
In a previous thread I stated how overpriced I thought the dell polyurethane case was and it is however one unexpected side effect it seems to have is the way it grips the streak seems to strengthen the device as it adds an extra rigidity to it so and it will be less likely to flex.If you carry yours in your pocket I would suggest you consider the case as it does provide protection from potential movement and flex

G2 Loose Hinge Video

Since a lot of you don't understand or have no clue what the loose hinge issue is, I made a video!
I love my phone and don't start the "hitorii is bashing the phone" thread. This is just for informational purposes so we can find if this is in fact a defect and maybe help some people.

Thanks for the video. I've been wondering if mine had the problem. While mine does open up when held upside down by the keyboard it doesn't ever close unless I close it. That would concern me.

Yea, **** that, that'd be crazy annoying.
Let's hope it's just an assembly line issue, and not the way it's supposed to be.
wow that looks defective, i get mine today, lets see if it has the problem
honestly, I think its just a non-issue and the way it was designed.
How often do you hold the phone, upsidedown, and only grabbing the keyboard side of the phone, if your in bed it doesn't take much to hold the screen and keyboard.
Mine opens up, but not as much as yours.
Like I said before in other threads. We know how a traditional slider should feel. This is a new technology so to speak and the first slider of its kind, so no one really knows exactly how it should feel.

I believe you are correct here. If its designed like that, then if its loose in a pocket or bag, it could open up a bit and get all types of junk stuck in between. Not a good design idea, if intentional.
as someone else said, it's part of the design - believe the mechanical z lock is referred in engineering terms as an over-center cam lock
and because of the limitations of the phone's body, it's at it's limit on the lock's travel on the closing side
mine doesn't do it, but it's at the cusp of doing it - ie very little resistance to self opening when held like that, and i suspect with time, as it loosens up, it will do exactly like that
i wouldn't worry about it - if you dwell on it, it's going to ruin the phone for you - i'd ignore it - ie "push away from the trees and see the forest", so to speak
my 02
I really don't think its a flaw at all. Who the hell is hang upside down like a freaking bat to send a text to their mommy? You pretty much need to hold the back side of the phone by your finger tips, than hold it upside down to make this happen. Sorry guys, but you can exchange your phone 50 times and they're all going to do the same thing. Good luck!

Yellowish mark Appearing on keayboards side.

Ok so I thought this was just my 1st G2 that was showing this. It seems that the rubber tabs beneath the screens are leaving behind a yellowish stain on each side of the keyboard part of the phone. Look at the '@' key now look at the grey part to the left of it and check if you see any yellow stains. Same thing on the grey part to the right of the 'enter' key. On both my 1st G2 and now my 2nd G2 I noticed this.
I tried cleaning it but it doesn't come off. I tried alcohol too and still. Scared to try anything else because I don't want the paint or color to fade.
Now idk if removing the tabs from beneath the screens is a good idea but idk why this mark is happening.
Id take a pic of it but don't have a camera to do it.
Also I don't mean to add to the list of problems of this phone as I absolutely love this phone and wouldn't trade it for anything.

It's urine. The type of composite htc used for the g2's main body is susceptible to saturation from organic waste fluids. This is irreversible. Wash your hands more, or stop peeing on them.

Interesting that multiple people have the same yellow mark on the phone. I have it too but thought nothing of it. Just that it was most likely gunk from my pocket. Its just odd for a lot of people to have the same mark in the same place. I have failed at trying to clean it off a few times now. Anyone successful clean it off.

Yes I did first day. Same with the 2nd phone. This is happening because of the adhesive rubber on the back of the screen. Its the only thing that touched the keyboard half of the phone. The marks are left on the grey next to the @,.com,alt keys and on the right of the delete, enter, and right alt keys.

I just noticed the same thing started appearing on my phone. I've had the phone since a few days before the official launch and the yellow spots just started showing up a day or two ago.
I haven't been able to clean them off, but I agree, it looks like it might be from the adhesive from the rubber pads. Alcohol didn't work to clean them off... I am fairly certain acetone or anything stronger will eat the paint off the phone.

Here is a pic. Oh and the yellowish stains are appearing in a spot where the plastic layer did not cover...
http://tinypic.com/r/2lstg75/7
The one on the left is hard to see in this lighting, but the one on the right is clearly visible
Edit: I just tried some diluted acetone and the stains did not come out. They are really in there good.
my phone has it too. but the right side stain is much more visible the the left. i hope its not anything coming up from the inside like a chemical leak or idk. it seems to be getting progressively darker

Post hinge-fix video!

A lot of people have been asking for a video of the end results - here it is!
LOL - I notice the audio doesn't quite match up with the video, Deal with it
Repair materials:
Currently the 5 pack of springs is out of stock - I ordered the 10 pack:
10 pack of springs
Small Phillips Screwdriver
Set of Safe Open Pry Tools
Void stickers for the squeamish
Important sources:
Follow until about 4:10 http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-tmobile-g2-take-apart-repair-guide.html :: Follow this video as you open up the insides of the phone; pause and review when necessary!

Wow!! Your hinge looks amazing! I just ordered the t5 screwdriver kit. Once I receive it, I will be attempting this.
I still need the springs, but I'm debating on ordering the 10 pack or not.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I wish there was a cheaper spring solution, I stretched mine, but it's still kinda loose. I don't have the $6 to spend on a spring, I had to search for change to get a T5 bit from Ace Hardware, and that was $2
Just a little update - after a day of full use, the phone seems more solid with the keyboard CLOSED; No wobbling at all. It really does feel like a one-piece device until you slide it open, and the clicking sound that the sliding makes really makes it feel good in the hand
Wow thanks for doing that and providing a link to the parts! My only gripe is that to get all the tools and parts, it will cost about $38. I wish we didnt have to spend that to get the phone to operate the way it was intended. Not to mention having to risk the phone not working because we had to take it completely apart.

The wobbling screen bothers me way more than the loose hinge, so much that the hinge doesn't bother me at all. I just don't understand why the screen can't sit flush to the base.

anyone else think these nubs on android phones are pointless?

I can see where it would be aimed to fit in your hand..but its such a pointless little nub.
On Android phones they tend to have these odd nubs I.e. Droid x, vibrant, Droid incredible.

Maybe they contain things that make your phone work.
Presumably, OP is talking about the 'chin' of the G1, and the humps on the back of the DroidX & GalaxyS line....
-bZj
G1 had it first. It was just going for a unique design. The Hero kicked it up a notch and a lot of manufacturers have produced their own take on the "chin".
Just gives the phones a unique shape and personality, instead of just a flat black slab.
i think he's talking about the bumps on the back of the phone.
the only purpose they seem to serve is to show the orientation of the phone, if it's upside down or upright. i find this useful when i'm taking the phone out of my pocket.
i think it helps with gripping the phone so it doesn't slide off your hands like a slab would.
The only thing I do not understand is they do not make the phone have a "feel for right-side-up", making them so symmetrical causes that. The Nub or hump does not really provide the right tactile signal it is upside-down..........
When I first read the title I thought he was saying noobs on android community.

Well we do but its not THAT bad.
Cover the nub for a bit and signal goes down lol
I just tore down my Vibrant to do the gps fix. The antenna wire starts at the top and runs down the side and into the area underneath hump or nub you guys are talking about but the biggest thing down on that end of the phone is the vibration motor. You can see all this without taking your phone apart by watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvt6atrin8

I can agree with that. I'm always rotating the phone in my pocket to make sure the "nub" is on top so when I pull it out it's right side up. I'm OCD like that.
Another feature is that it keeps the back from wearing out too much. Phones with flat backs tend to wear a lot. Logos and designs wear to crap.
