Yes it seems like firmware version I9000XXJPM is official froyo release!

And now everyone will open a new topic? We all get it..it's all over this forum now

No nexus-like kickass-JIT, less ram then in 2.1 and it still lags as hell. Why i am not surprised?

Coment above just made me think......omg I have a samsung phone! How did I manage to get hold of this shyt!
Samsung created a iphone killer only to be killed by the iphone lol

It's not an official release until it's been officially released
It's likely to be the official release but there's still the chance it will get pulled if a major problem comes up.

Just because the name is the same doesn't make it official. Both Vibrant and Captivate got updates that had the same name as previously released builds on SamFirmwares - but the file sizes and MD5 were different on different components.

It's been repeated so many times, but:
1) Linpack is the least accurate way to test JIT..
2) How many apps are you running which consume more than the RAM available
In regards to the "lag", it isn't that bad anyway (in my opinion), and it doesn't mean they aren't working on a fix.. In fact, it's entirely possible they were working on a fix, but there was insufficient time to release it..

They told us to be the most powerfull android device when it was released, and what do we get, just marketing lies. For sure my first and last samsung paid device. Samsung just sell spare parts and don't try to do what do you don't know how to do.

confused and fed up
Can someone explain why the JIT doesn't work or doesn't make a difference and what the fuk is wrong with the galaxy s? Is it just **** software or hardware?

JIT does work, it is just that linpack uses a lot of FPU operations which are much faster on Snapdragon than on Hummingbird. But in real world use the difference will be small, unless you are running an FPU intensive task like for example MP3 encoding.

Rename misleading thread title please tbh

has anyone actually seen it on kies yet?
do I need to do something first to see it? like registry tweaking our something?

At the earliest most likely... patience Lil grasshopper
samsung is holding an event on the 16th to show off the media hub on the galaxy s phones and to show off some new models. I'd expect them to make an official announcement then since they've been rather quiet recently.
Some tmo rep said the same thing. End of this month. He also had to mention the g2 end of this month too. Kinda wondered should have I waited

eh, the G2 isn't much of an upgrade over the slide so I'd say you made the right choice.
Well with verizon's version of the galaxy s out, i think there is nothing to hold a massive upgrade to all versions back.
given that the tab is going to be running froyo real soon, the galaxy s phones shouldn't be that far behind. in fact, i think they should get the update first, but hey, what do i know
is this the latest update we'll get? will we be getting 3.0?

Gingerbread would be great and a good pr move on the part of samsung. My expectation is low though simply because they will want people to buy new phones. Gingerbread will be an easy upgrade too because out would be vanilla with touchwiz and widgets being addons. The Tab has similar hardware and it may get it, making a custom ROM likely.

Last I checked, Samsung hasn't actually offered a phone to 100 carriers around the planet, including all 4 US national carriers.
As long as a single large American carrier demands the next version of Android, we ALL will get it.
I don't see the connection between froyo and the gps fix. If it was an android fix then we should have a fix already, I expect it is firmware based.

Im thinking this is also true, which leads me to think that this phone is going to be pretty damn awesome after 2.2. Then again this could just be wishful thinking...
Just wondering how the GalaxyS community is going to react if 2.2 isn't 100% PERFECT.... :grabs popcorn:
mmmm popcorn.... mmmm (visits microwave...)
anyone whining bout the gps fix needs to check out rooting and flashing eugenes vibrant 9 rom, ive made this comment like 15 times buuuuuut. i get a lock within 10meters in only 10 seconds with the gps on and the cell tower assist feature on. no nead to play around in Lbstestmode menus just turn on location settings in the menu open maps and find "my location"... and this is inside my apartment....
I cant wait for ALL the bonuses in 2.2 like flash and included wifi tethering but do we really need to make a million threads about it??? lol

So.....Time to put Gingerbread rumors to rest?

Froyo source is out. The last ROM to leak out was KB1, and that was almost 3 weeks ago....and it came out not long after the official Froyo KA6. Forgive me for starting this discussion (or argument, depending on how this develops), but I'm thinking that the lack of any recent ROMs in conjunction with the release of KA6 Froyo source and absolute silence by Samsung on Gingerbread for Galaxy S pretty much means there is no way official Gingerbread is coming to Vibrant. I'm just saying. Not knocking Samsung (for this, anyway, no need to rehash everything Samsung SHOULD be knocked for), because they never promised Gingerbread. I'm guessing no more official Vibrant firmware development whatsoever is taking place.
I think (and this is just my opinion) we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves worrying about gingerbread. Especially when we have some epic ROMs to look forward to now that the froyo source is out.
I am waiting for the CM7 or teamwhiskey to port 2.3 to vibrant
If that's true, then wouldn't that mean that vibrant 4G would also not get gingerbread? Not 1 update.... at all?
Keep it in your pants buddy.
The reason there haven't been any leaks is because Samsung changed the ports on their FUS server. Haven't figured out which one it is yet.

Gingerbread is optimized for the Hummingbird while Froyo is optimized for the Snapdragon. It should give better performance. I finally had a chance to play with a NS for an extended time the other day and it is lightning fast bone stock. There are also some new api's that no one has begun to utilize...yet. It's like Eclair was - nothing special except for the processor boost. Icecream or whatever you want to call the next release is probably going to be a major upgrade with hardware acceleration and a ui overhaul.

Galaxy S Gingerbread update soon. Due at end of March!

According to Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/european-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-coming-end-march
Link to Samsung Romania post: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileRomania/posts/189412624430604
A post on Samsung Mobile Romania's Facebook page seems to suggest that Romanian Galaxy S phones (and presumably other European models) may see an official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March.
Translated into English and cleaned up a little, the post reads:
"The update to version 2.2.1 for Galaxy S will be available until 20 March, and Gingerbread (2.3) until the end of the month."
Our Romanian is a little rusty, but we think it's safe to assume the last part of that statement means either "it'll arrive by the end of the month", or "it won't arrive until the end of the month". Either way, it looks like the European Galaxy S could soon claim bragging rights as the first non-Nexus phone to get an official Gingerbread update. HTC has announced that Gingerbread will be coming to some of its older phones, but these updates aren't due until sometime in the second quarter.
Samsung Romania also adds that two of its budget phones, the i5500 Galaxy 5 and i5800 Galaxy 3, will be updated to Froyo by Mar. 20 and Mar. 31 respectively. [Samsung Romania Facebook via Crave]

God, getting Gingerbread on the Vibrant would be AMAZING. It would increase the speed, and once the source is released, we would see some awesome gingerbread ROM's for it.

Well, I really can be hopeful, since I'll also have the NS4G (getting it today), if they don't release it, I'll just play around with GB on the NS4G, and when the Vibrant gets GB, I'll have 2 amazing phones (not like the Vibrant isn't amazing now, but just not taking full advantage of it's hardware).

Hell, I'd rather take a leak, so that our amazing dev's can create working ROM's out of them.
Yeah a leak would come in handy. We'd get new roms and maybe some stuff fixed in CM7/MIUI. The Epic 4G had a leak not too long ago and i think there looking at another leak that one of the dev groups has. The ones that got us our leaks here in the vibrant section were Eugene373 and Krylon360, and their both gone. =(

Binary roms will not help CM7 and miui roms with GPS because of the way Samsung calls on the GPS as compared to the way aosp calls on the GPS. This has been stated many times over, and yet still gets swept under the rug.
Even after the *kernel* source is released, it still contains nothing about GPS source.

GPS will probably never work for EVERYONE on the Vibrant... so might as well let it go and wait for some dev to make a mod that makes it work like Heathen's GPS fixes.
I was saying that GB would open completely new doors.
GB could help complete MIUI and CM7, as they are all Gingerbread based.
Even if it is AOSP, they have to use the things that Samsung gives.

Yes.
Galaxy S, in the eyes on Samsung, has fulfilled his purpose.
But in XDA eyes, it still has a lot to offer!
If you are too afraid to flash an ICS rom on it, you should probably do yourself a favor and throw it to the trash can and buy an iPhone, that gives you plenty of features to afraid (and rich) people.

The value pack is available for the SGS, and is a really cool firmware - possibly the best firmware until now from Samsung.
This is for the international version. Possibly a similar package for other regions and operators.
Since that ROM was leaked, no other leak for the i9000 for long time. I don't expect any other ROM for the SGS from Samsung.
There are some developers here working on the ICS for the SGS. At this point, the only think we're asking from Samsung is to release the source to support the continued development.
it is leaked for SGS only i think not SGS + as i m SGS+ user i didn't find that so it is new for me.there are also less roms for SGS+ and till now there is no ICS rom (unofficial) for SGS+ so for me its bad experience with samsung
