Looking for wm7 Android emulator thread... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi, a little while ago there was a thread about people who ported Android to their hd2s then using a launcher to to emulate the look of wm7 on their phones. I did a couple searches but did not return what I was looking for. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

Because someone has to more or less reverse engineer everything to port it, all drivers etc need rewriting, I'm sure you can do it if you know what you're doing in say....... 4/5 months???

Android is open source, which makes it easier to port. Also, the work on porting android to winmo phone has been going on for longer than android has even been around. There was a buggy android port for a winmo device before there was an actual android phone even out... so all this previous work on linux/android ports has helped with porting android to more current winmo devices.
Also, winmo has Haret.exe, an app that shuts down the windows kernel and starts up the linux kernel... there is no app for android that will start up the windows kernel.
As far as WP7... the only reason the HD2 has it is because the hardware is almost exactly the same as the HD7, and we have magldr for our device which is used to launch wp7. Magldr is windows ce based, so I don't think you will see any version for any android devices.
This is why I have always liked windows mobile devices... they were always very easily hacked and modifiable.

Android OS (linux) on any smartphone

Hi i already posted this on Android Community forum...but i think this must be more appropriate place...so does anybody has any info if it is possible to install the Android OS to a smartphone other than the one that comes with one?
Is it possible to lets say install the Android OS (Linux) to samsung hd i8910, that has symbian OS? Somehow change the firmware to the one with Android? What obstacles exist that this has not been done yet?

one thing would be drivers.
is it possible to install Android OS on Acer E200 which comes with Windows Mobile 6.5? what are the tools to build the custom Rom?
Ok the drivers...that is major..is anyone doing something similar like writing the new drivers?
Takes a lot of time, knowledge and work to build drivers from scratch to different processors.Reasearch teams take months....
Even for qualcomm processors, because OS´s use it in a somewhat diferent way and is coded in the processor itself...thats what i understood for what i read...might be totally wrong i dont understand nothing about that.
Emulation is possible but it wont be the same...laggy,clutered,buggy,etc.

I would highly doubt it, but it's always possible.

Here on XDA, Android has successfully been ported to the HTC Vogue (HTC Touch). Progress is going along rapidly on the Raphael, Diamond, and Blackstone. I don't know about any ports to Symbian phones though, XDA is oriented more towards WinMo.
There might be ports going on to Symbian phones, but there probably won't be much information on any Symbian devices here.
But yes, it is possible to port Android to another smartphone, it just requires a LOT of elbow work.
EDIT: Found this forum, it might interest you. People talking about Android on the i8910 http://forums.samsungi8910omnia.com...-cooked-roms/6239-android-1-6-i8910hd-19.html
Well its always nice to hear, that there is somebody doing something..like you guys here on xda. In the case of i8910 it is the matter of the pure hardware..and type of phone..that is very high end..and cannot be compared with phones of HTC type...not yet..i guess the speed, the capacitive touch screen..processor..camera..only bad thing is sucky symbian..

[Q] What OS is everyone using?

I have been watching the WP7 threads for a little while now and have noticed that there doesn't seen to be much activity in there.
I was wondering if WP7 isn't very popular among the community. For me, I love it. I think M$ has done pretty good with this one, and DFT have done even better, Thanks guys. Also thanks to the chefs too.
So I guess I am wondering what OS the community are using.
Android
WP7
Win Mob 6.5
Meego
I'm using the android .

i use both windows mobile 6.5 and Android.
I'd probably use the Android way more if i could figure out a couple things i'm still cofused about.

ANDROID 2.3.3 the BEST OS i am using it on my HD2
WP7 mainly, occasionally dip into Android on my SD, starting to think I may just use WP7 when the nodo comes out, beginning to get thoughts why do I need my hd2 when all I use is WP7.
Android is just to messy, not a single keyboard on android comes anywhere close to the Standard WP7 one, Android is becoming fragmented with now the tegra seperate apps, the seperate Expedia play ones also, this is where iPhone and WP7 will prevail. I know its difficult for this to not frament over time with new technologies but to have so many different speced Android devices available at the same time, that run different games and compatibility in my mind is a mess and I am starting to dislike where Android is heading.

Android Ginger 2.3.2
Thanks for the replies so far guys.
I can't understand why WP7 isn't as popular as WinMob 6.5 according to the poll at this moment in time. I have been using it as my full time OS since getting my phone back from repair 2 weeks ago. I only get the occasional lockup (albeit for a second or too) and the odd app might not work (i.e. Messenger) but overall, I am very happy with it. Considering too, the amount of bugs that had to be ironed out when Android was ported, it's bloody marvellous.

will the future bring windows phone 7 to the desire hd?

hello guys
i just wanted to know if it will be possible to put windows phone7 as a second system on the dhd...i know i know windows phone 7 isnt a free sourcecode..but some people get it right on the hd 2..
so i was wondering if it wouldnt work for the dhd too?
at first: YES. it is possible.
BUT: it's a LOT of effort to port WP7 to the DHD and probably no one would do it.
so there would probably never be a working WP7 version on the DHD unless you get a really good DEV to work on this
I think there is a launcher called Windows phone 7. It looks exactly the same!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
imo Windows 7 is not necessary on DHD.
Gingerbread is great.
im pretty sure WP7 wont come to the DHD as we first of all need the source code - which we most likely wont get.
+ imo the reason why we have working wp7 builds for the HD2 is, because it already has windows framework on it, which makes it way easier to port a newer version on it.
My question would be, will windows fans ever work out how to use search on XDA?, please this question has been asked time and time again.
Sry for the question bro actually im using revolution hd 5.11 and the windows phone 7 launcher the combination of windowd design and android software is great
I doubt it will. Even though WP 7 can be ported, almost all services in WP 7 will unuseable. The one that Im waiting is Meego or Ubuntu fully ported to DHD.
When I visit a big online store (which begins with an a ;P ) at this time all wp7 devices are really cheap xD. when you want wp7 I would recommend you to buy a htc hd7 for example. At the moment you will miss something like WOW effect of something new . Tested wp7 a while on my old hd2...there are many things missing (in OS itsself) and the hype came down after a short time after release of dft.
It would be good if can make it dual boot...

I would be interested in an app (phone or PC) that could convert any WM6.5.x ROM to one that could be run like an Android SD ROM...
Though I'm happy with WinMo with android on SD, wouldn't mind trying it the other way around
This idea is sensible

If it is possible Win 6.5 run in SD same as Android SD ,
After that we can have WIN 7 or 7.5 NAND , and win 6.5 & android on SD
I HOPE
I think that there are thousands of people wishing that this dream became true. If it's possible, Cotulla is probably working on that. But don't interrupt him with silly request, OK?
+1 for 3 os on the phone in the same time
i haven't thought that HTC HD2 will be the best portable device with any OS if that will be possible that it would be grat , i hope Cotulla will solve this in short time
The real revolution will come when WM can be runned in And/WP devices, SD or NAND. It would be another victory of David over Goliath.
PS- is it possible run And on WP devices, SD or NAND?
+1! I would love this as well
+1 here. Absolutely fantabulous!
Please come out with this... ! I just want my Garmin Mobile XT to work, for everything else, theres Android..

Yes, it is possible to run Android through SD Card on many Windows Mobile devices. Rhodium, Topaz, Photon and even Kaiser run Android, with problem and lags of course, but nonetheless it's a great achievement and a second life for all of users. Everything looks like on HD2, Android is booted by HaRET.exe.
NAND is possible for HD Mini (Photon), though I'm not sure if it's as functional as possible. Cotulla only started project to show it's possible and didn't put much effort to fix all issues. I don't know if more devices have such luck to have Android on NAND.
No, I meant run android in HD7, Trophy, and other WindowsPhone7 OS (not WM6.5), SD or NAND.
But our main problem is there is no new phones running WM6.5, so everybody already got a Sensation, a Galaxy, even a Wildfire. So if WM could be ported to android devices or WP7 it would be a second life for WM. And we the users would be gain this battle to big companies. Its a great challenge.

WM6.5 possible to run on WP8

can we run WM6.5 on WP8 ? how ?
Erm.
We can't even install custom WP8 ROMs on most devices yet.
WinMo never had the drivers for devices like these (for example, I don't thing 6.5 even supports multicore).
Hell, we couldn't even do it on WP7*, which at least still used a CE kernel. WP8 uses an NT kernel.
Some kind of virtualization might work, but don't count on it. That's a long way off if it ever happens at all.
* OK, there was a program that aimed to allow running WinMo apps on WP7, but so far as I know, it was never released.

Yea, they did and it was on rooted WP7.X devices but, never released. Also, it was 6.1, not 6.5 (not sure why but, there are images on DFT's twitter page if you dig back a year ago)
Wonder what ever happened to this project, there was some classic games on WM 6.X that I would love to play on my WP8 device if that was even possible..

probably went the same way as WM5/6 on the Alpine (aka XDA IIi) I wouldn't ever expect to see that again or the WM "app"
My question is, why would ANYONE want to put WM 6 on a WP8 device? If you want WM 6, then buy a WM6 device. They're cheap now.

Not sure I would want to put WM 6.5 on a WP8 device(AKA: flash a device with a WM6.5 rom) but, I would love emulator where I could install apps/games from Skydrive or something.
So if wanted to bring back some memories (a simple game of Uno 1.63), I could with out having to deal with the other BS from WM...
Isn't that the same point of having SNES or NES emulators for WP8 ?

I noticed "most devices", is there ANY currnent Windows Phone 8 device that custom roms can be installed to ?
Some people are saying they've managed on the Huawei W1, and there have been rumors regarding the HTC 8X or 8S.
I joined XDA back when I had a Pocket PC and my dad had a Windows Mobile smartphone by HTC (the Hermes). The biggest problem we'd face is that the OS is made for small screens. I don't think any of them were bigger than 3.5", and even if they were, it's just a hard OS to navigate via touch, because you didn't. You used a stylus. The keyboard was super tiny, and the menus were made for you to tap your stylus at.
The HTC HD2 had a 4.3" Display and using HTC Sense (TouchFlo 3D) on it was pretty usable with touch. This was also necessary because the HD2 had a capacitive touchscreen which meant that a stylus could not be used.

I joined XDA when I owned the Motorizr Z3 and customized that tiny little thing and you bring up excellent points. The best resistive screen device I've ever owned and in fact still my all time favorite phone was the HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). HTC with the exception of the HTC Arrival never came out with another device with undoubtedly the best keyboard ever put on a smart phone with maybe the exception of the Blackberrys. Now that HTC is about to release the "Max" and Nokia the Lumia 1520... it boils down to Windows Phone 8 or Android.
My HP Pocket PC had NO physical keyboard. It was like typing on a 3DS.

HD2 was only single core. It ran a QSD8250 Snapdragon.
With that said, I will say at this point that we will have NO WAY to run WM6.5 on WP8 devices. I really don't know why you'd want to run WM6.5 on a WP8 device.. Just get an old one, they're cheap.
