are we ever going to see WP7 on android? - Android Software Development

like a rom of some sort, or should i just buy a WP7 phone

bamp for more win

Highly unlikely. It's more plausible that you will see Android for a WP7 phone due to proprietary drivers.

But the most important question is: why would you ever desire WP7 on an Android device?!?!

I loved winmo, but as I read about what win phone 7 was going to be like, I jumped ship to android just to show M$ my disgust with how they will be crippling winmo in sooooo many ways.
Been pretty happy with my Evo on android.

WP7 on epic?

Is it possible? Id love to play with it lol
Edit
Someone delete this lol I change my mind
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That's not going too happen. Windows is copywrited it'd be like stealing a copy of windows 7 and installing it on your pc. Illegal
As long it is a Windows 7 phone it has to be Windows OS. As for android which is opensource...

its really hard to do.... but
why change your mind? just becuase someone said it was illegal?
Actually, its in the process of being done on the EVO, Its not final if it will work or start, but it was able to boot. Maybe at the End of the Summer, it may be available for the Evo, and it might get ported to the epic, but the chances are highly unlikely.

One of my favorite features of the HTC phones was the ability to dual-boot android or WinMO. The Touch Pro was awesome with this. Unfortunately HTC doesn't want to make a decent phone with a keyboard anymore, and nobody else likes WinMO.

Incompatible hardware, closed source OS, and a dozen other reasons.

Dual Boot

Wouldn't a dual boot of some other os be nice right about now? whats an os out we should get to dual boot?
None. No other device uses the same hardware as ours and writing drivers for an entire OS is an unbelievable undertaking we don't have the devs for.

They don't have a dev community so not really. So far there has been one successful "jailbreak" that ruins their ability to update forever. Not much of a future there.

That's what convinced me to come to Android. I had a Windows Mobile 6 phone, and after dual booting with Android for about a month, I realized I liked it a lot better and decided that my next phone would be an Android one. And that was a big deal for me, because I was developing apps for my Windows phone but had never made an Android app before.

The OS has nothing to do w/ whether you can dual boot or not. But more depends on the hardware and and what software and/or drivers the community has put together.

Yeah I know. Just wishful thinking on my part. I love WebOS but the hardware they're giving it sucks beyond sucking.

A completely theoretical question....

Is it possible to run a whole new OS (in this case I was thinking WP7 Mango Beta) on our phones. It would be like a port over. I'm not talking about a Metro UI, I'm talking about the real OS. The reason why I ask this is because I'm getting really bored with my phone. I think it would be cool dualbooting a whole new OS.
So, is it possible?
I know on the HD2 it is possible. A phone that originally only supported windows 6.5 now has native android, windows 7, meego and ubuntu. So it is not a far stretch of imagination to say that it is possible on the mt4g. Will it be done? I highly doubt it, but hey, who knows. Maybe you can be the first to do it.

Well I would have to say that since there are licensing issues with any version of windows that this is unlikely... As it would then be a pirated copy of the OS!

The hd2 was originally a windows phone. It can be used with android because some people were really determined and put in some hard work to make it work on that phone.

Good question! To which my only logical answer is... By law it shouldn't be able too unless there was a leaked test Rom or something. But it was a windows phone to begin with, so maybe less of a priority because of that... The reason the hd2 can run android is cause it is an open source product much like Linux and can be put on anything
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
If you want until windows 8 comes out, there might be some people working on it. Windows 8 will have ARM support which will make it easier to get working, but would still need drivers for certain functions.

No one will do it because it's illegal, the devs would get a cease and desist order if they even attempt to put it on other phones....It may be possible but the lack of drivers would make it a no go, I don't think drivers would need to be ported from other phones from htc using mango already.

Wp7 on DHD

Sounds interesting. I hope someone can do this id love to give it a try.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk
Well, the problem isn't just the chipset. There are also other hardware parts that probably aren't the same as in these devices.
And that parts are the problem because wp7 is closed source so you can't really modify drivers, kernel,... Since android is open source, the drivers can be "easily" modified or replaced by others.
But if HTC uses the exact same hardware in these devices, there is a SMALL possibility that it will be portet someday. But imo it's unlikely that it will be ported.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
It would be awesome indeed. But I doubt that someone will do it.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
In my opinion, if you want to use wp7 and don't want to spend very much, you can buy a used hd2 around 100€... I am playing with this idea now, because I use two phones and wp7 looks nice and works good, but my main phone is and will be my DHD with Android because android can do more, than I would wish on a phone. It's the most amazing operating system ever...
Sent from my HTC Desire HD-T2X using XDA Premium App
the question, why? I would have answered, just because of the good feeling that our phone can do that. I would never use W7 but I would like to try to look again and tell myself that the DHD with Android platform the best choice.
Well, if there are someone who will to create a new custom bootloader, den I think multi boot on multi os is possible

[sarcasm] Wow, surprised this hasn't been asked before[/sarcasm] If you want WP7 on your phone go buy a windoze phone, it's closed source and would be a helluva a lot of effort for people to go to and why bother?.
Anyway MODS any chance you can close this thread as you have the other 100+ asking this question?
I suppose that it will be nice to have dual boot, but IMO wp7 sucks. The effort in achieving this is just not worth it.
Have wp7 on my work phone and I must say that win 6.5.x on my topaz is much better. Yes the speed and UI are better but some general things (which are very annoying in daily use) need to be polished.
Many missed calls as the wp7 can be powered off while phone is locked. So every time you put it in your pocked you must be sure that power button is face down.
i just can't honestly think why any one would want wp7 as a daily OS, maybe for a play, but why, really why?

I for one would love to see WP7 dual boot with CM7 on my DHD. Even if it's just for a proof of concept. The new Mango update does give WP7 ability to run on DHD hardware. Maybe not e'thing would work but the chipset will be supported. So porting it to DHD shouldm't be that difficult.

MiUi is mimics iOS5.x almost in every fashion. If you were to lay a iOS theme on it, and did a screen shot no one would know the difference.
Resolution
MiUi sounds like a great mimic, and I'm going to give it a try. But is there any way to make it the primary operating system of a phone like the Droid X? What is the fundamental difference between the phones that is preventing migration?
Try iLauncher by SUCKGAMONI on the Google Playstore. If you want the MIUI launcher here it is:View attachment MIUI_Launcher_3.1.apk

I am only asking out of curiosity and not out of a desire. I know that ios is not open source so making an ios rom is not realistic, but if super hacker really wanted to, could he or she make it work some how? Or what about a program which could sniff out the source code for closed source platforms?
I am very happy with Android no desire for iPhone(unless free) just asking

i dont think it would be too hard to port for a pro, the problem would be with drivers. how will iOS know what to do with your htc/samsung/etc hardware?
Theoretically, given unlimited amount of time and unlimited determination, one could make such a port work, at least partially.
Practically, given different HW of those phones, the amount of time and determination required to port anything newer than iOS3 are close to insane - unrealistic enough for anybody to want to do it.
If one were to say make a port of ios, would it be illegal to release it being that ios is closed source or would this fall under fair use? More than likely Apple would sue who ever released it lol
