I have Launcher Pro (paid ver) on my Fascinate.
I have sync'd all my pictures on FB to my contacts in the phone.
The phone contact list shows all the right pics.
My contacts are Gmail based, not phone based.
In my People widget the only pics that show are those who have gmail pics.
In my SMS app, it also only shows pics for those who have gmail pics.
What am I missing to get the FB pics that are displaying in contacts to show elsewhere?
...................
edit: use the app 'SyncMyPix' from the market. See below...
You need to go to each individual contact and merge them with Facebook. Additionally you will need to select each contact select edit and select the pic and choose remove icon. After doing this and saving the Facebook pic will be the one thats used not the gmail pic. I also had this issue which is how I discovered that this needed to be done, however I have found no easier way to complete this.

Well that's kinda annoying. I'd figure it would some way of using what ever pic was available, maybe Gmail first, then others. I'll check it out and report back. thx!
EDIT: Wait, if I select the FB image and then choose 'remove icon' doesn't that just delete the use of that image entirely? How would this fix my issue? Do you mean I need to save everyone's FB pic to my gallery and then set it as the image of the main contact?
Well figured out a good solution.
It appears there was no easy way to make anything outside of the actual contacts list show your FB pic after sync.
So I found this app that copies all your FB friends pics to their corresponding gmail contact image on your phone.
SyncMyPix
It worked perfectly on my phone and I was able to actually remove syncing my FB contacts all together. Which is good as that's less stuff going on.
Have no clue what Xanaki was talking about above btw, but this app works well and its free. You can even go Friend by friend to link to specific contacts if it doesn't auto match them due to you having a nickname in your list or something.
I now have it scheduled to run weekly to keep it all up to date.
I believed it was something about the Facebook API or something not allowing other applications to sync Facebook contacts.

Hi all,
Maybe I haven't enabled some setting (still new to the android game, even newer to the Timescape UI) but is there some way to search and link your phone contacts to facebook friends?
I've seen this integration being done using a built-in HTC feature.. wondering if there's something similar in Timescape that i've just missed.
Go to Contacts --> Settings --> Accounts & sync
There you can add your Facebook account

search the market for life.contacts by sony ericsson, it's a gr8 app and lets you sync contact with facebook, it also emails you if you miss a call or text

how do you guys get status updates to sync with contacts? i can get twitter updates to sync, but not facebook.
hey thanks for that guys.
@ thomassafca: yep i've done that, but what i mean is an app that runs through ur contacts, compares them to your facebook contacts and suggests whether u should merge the two.. not sure if that's what's happening atm tbh LOL but so far it doesn't look like a lot of contacts have fb details.
@androhero: thanks will give that a go, sounds promising.
haha tried life.contacts but if your contacts don't have the same name (e.g. first and last; most of my contacts in my phone are nicknames / first names only) it doesn't play too nice. would be great if you hv a clean contact list though, thanks for the heads up.
also (i'm an idiot) if you long-press a contact name in contacts it pulls up the context menu where you can select 'join contacts'. not quite what i was looking for (an automated suggestion app) but it'll do for now.

life.contacts works great, as long as the first name of the person in you contacts is exactly the same as there first name on facebook
hey! if you're still looking for a way to merge phone contacts with facebook IE their picture or status, what i did with mine was go into contacts, click on a contact and select edit. once you're in the editing screen for the contact press the menu button and at the bottom of the screen it will say join with two funny looking arrows..and then if your contact name is similar to any of your facebook contacts, it has that persons profile and you just select it!
if you know the person's on facebook and it doesn't show their name, sometimes you can edit the phone contact so it has the same name as their facebook page and join the two, then rename the contact in your phone so not every person has a first and last name lol.
hope this helps!

I second this as Life.Contacts widget/account-sync does work. However, I would just as soon have native Facebook sychronization. It works on my Thunderbolt, it works on my Moto Droid A855 (OG Droid), it works in my dev environment Android Emulator. _WHY_ Doesn't it work on the Xperia Play? Even on the "stock" Android 2.3.2 on the Verizon version (R800x). The facebook app works fine, except it has no settings under the "other settings" option inside the app, and if you try and add an account listing under your system Accounts menu, it just goes right back to the account list.
(Also, no it is not moved to SD, installed to a SD-Ext partition or anything else, just normal internal storage install directly from the Android Market)
Anybody have any ideas as to why?
Why would anyone want to put there phone numbers and personal contact data on facebook? That is just stupid. Why not just post your credit card information while your at it?

No, we are not putting phone numbers and personal contact data on facebook. It is putting facebook data on your phone.
For example. I have a friend John Doe in facebook. He is also in my phone. When he calls me, his facebook photo automatically shows up. Same for all other friends.
It's nice to see new facebook profile pictures when people call me.
I c. But there are to many people in my Facebook that I wouldn't want on my phone. A lot of them I don't even know. They just add me because we know someone in common. LOL
I had a similar problem with gmail on my iPhone all of a sudden I had everyone I ever emailed on my phone. Even people I only emailed once to buy something on kijiji.

Because your only meant to add your friends. People go crazy and add anyone they can its up to them.

That is why you just integrate the facebook info with only people from your contact list.

I have been searching for the same sir. The other thread that was made on this, came up with nothing.
The default behaviour of android is to save to the last location selected, but the G2 phonebook doesn't seem to allow changing from the default which is the phone memory.
Rooting the device and tinkering with the APK for the phonebook could do something, but apart from that, I havn't been able to find a solution.
Plus one on this one
Sent from a mobile Gadget...
Which phone model are you guys using? I have VZW, and it saves to Google as default just fine.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
i have lg g2 international and have this bug real problem for me after htc sensation
Just edit the contact and at the very top it will show where its saved, click there and chose where u want to save it to (select the gmail acct u want to use). Also you can export all your contacts to a file then login to your gmail from a computer and import that file.

Same with calendar's.
anyone found work around to this? My galaxy S2 can do it easily, once I save my 1st contact to gmail, it sets gmail as my default contact storage and I don't have to keep selecting gmail every time I want to save a new contact. But with G2 I have to keep selecting every time I want to add new contact to the list.
+1 here... (I started another thread and now I found this one with same problem)
In calendar it shows only selected calendars that is ok. And somehow it uses my default google account for calendars.
But in contacts it gives option to save to "phone, SIM, google account 1 and google account2" and default is phone.
lg g2
I have KK 4.4.2 and i have the same problem. It's very annoying...Everytime i have to change when i want to save a contact.
Thanks to this feature (bug), I have lost quite a few contacts.
This is a serious issue which can potentially prevent you from getting laid. If you know what I mean.
question

I did factory restore on my phone and it made the trick
Sorry for bumping old thread, but is there any fix for this?
Its annoying to click every time to change sync from phone to google, plus, I lost many contacts because of this when changed the ROM
the bug is still present in lollipop
Same bug in the G3.
I wonder if the G4 suffers from it as well.
I wish for an xposed module would fix it.
I am having trouble with saving contacts. By default it is set to "phone" and everytime I have to choose my google account when saving account.
I tried deleting data in apps , "contacts, phone, etc,..." but still when creating new contact it is selected to save in "phone"
Has anyone any clue how to set default save location to my google account?
thank you!

Go into settings while in contacts, and uncheck the other options, leaving only Google contacts selected.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
Nope... doesnt work for me... I have checked settings /contacts to show / custom and unchecked all but my google account.
stilll when typing number and saving a contact or creating new contact.. default selected is "phone"
My Incredible 4G does that too. Annoying.

Go in to Phone orContacts settings, and then click "Contacts to display"
Select your google account.
It will then default to save on your google account. Obviously you will not see contacts from the phone or other accounts but I save everything on google so works for me.
cheers!
Nothing helps - searching since 6 month!

Nope, it will remain saving new contacts to the phone as default. I also have all my contacts saved to google, because i sync it with other devices. I'm realy wondering that only a few people complain about this issue.
If someone found a solution in the meantime - please let me know. Thanks
Same here
Not really a solution but FYI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50637743#post50637743

I have same problem but I don't know any solution for it at all. I though the KK update will make a difference but it didn't do anything. The problem remains the same in KK as it was in JB:crying:
Yip same problem here with no solution. Lost my contacts because of it. Really poor from lg.

It is not LG thing, It is KK to blame; Last update of KK (4.4.2) does ALWAYS default save location to "phone" It IS realy annoying !
you can choose google acc. from drop down menu when saving a new contact, but you have to do it so EVERY time you add new contact
P.S. And no, you have not lost your contacts: just go to settings in contacts app, then choose display contacts and select customize, then check google contacts and phone - voala
Add one more person who was wondering and getting annoyed with that... isn't it a bit strange that there's no setting to change the default contact location??
Anyway... is there a way to export contacts from the phone to Google? Say for example you're in a rush to add a bunch of contacts, can you somehow get them into your Google Contacts later on?
Guess I will try and add all contacts on a computer from now on.
One more person who finds this really awkward. It must have been the same before KitKat, because when I updated (and wiped my phone) I lost a few recently added contacts...
The same applies to the calendar, new entries are by default added to the phones calender, and I can't find a setting to change this.
Finally, whats up with the "recent calls"-menu? If I go there, I expect a list of the calls I've made, received and missed, in reversed chronological order. Going to "recent calls" on the G2... Well, I can't for the life of me figure out what it shows. I always have to go via menu and filter out either dialed, received or missed. It's idiotic.
I would be very happy if LG fixes this error in the next firmware version.
no one has found the fix yet?
its weird
When you save a new contact, you have an option above to choose . Phone Contact is default, you can also choose Google or SIM .
Hope this will help .
P.S Sorry for my english mistakes .
Problem still present in Lollipop...
No fix yet ?!

We already know this. We just want "Google" from the dropdown list as default, every time.
Still not resolving?..
Same problem for me...
Really annoying!!!
Seem impossible there's no way to trick it...
I just made the move to the Galaxy S5 (VZW version which is currently not root-able which sucks btw). I came from the HTC Rezound which I had grown very accustomed to the widgets (not liking the Samsung "equivalents") and have become frustrated with one issue with the contacts and the default picture. Using the HTC People widget, you could select from which linked contact (Google, Exchange, Facebook) you preferred the picture and use it as the default. I can't seem to figure out how to do this with S5. Is it possible?

I have a same problem, driving me MAD! Anyone knows solution for it?
Thank you.
On mine I can just open the contacts app, open the contact I want to change the picture of, hit the edit pen icon top right, hit either the photo or if it doesn't have one, the + button where the photo should be, then change it to whatever I want
Under edit contact by tapping on picture i have Image, Take picture and Remove. But I already have picture for my contacts under Device. My problem is that they are not the ones set as default. Default are from FB or LinkedIn and I can't change them.
Looks like it's there but buggy, "Mark as default" seems to have issues
