4G tweaks thread? - EVO 4G General

i know i read a thread on here with various 4g tweaks you can make so that it will accept a weaker signal and also reduce the time to reconnect. i've searched high and low all over and can't find this thread now. anyone have any idea where it is?

Refresh rate/V sync?

Hey guys,
So i have read somewhere that the i9000's screen is capped at around 55 - 60hz, is there anyway to remove this, im really curious to see what neocore and other benchmarks come out at without a vsync or cap enabled
Is this a hardware cap? or is it software, is it the screens limitations?
It's software..
Refer to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779602&highlight=vsync
But if your benchmarks are running above that speed anyway, they probably can't provide much useful information, because they are too simple.
aha many thanks, i did use a search but it kept on coming up with things for a hd2 for some reason

[Q] Static Noise Bug when playing Music

I've been experiencing some problems with the recent ROM's ive installed on my SG3. The thing is when i play music and switch ON\OFF the screen, i hear a weird static cracking noise. This bug has been reported to occur due to a bug in the kernel of the ROM's.
Kyrillo and dharam have admitted that the problem exists in their kernels and that they are trying hard to fix it.
My question is how many of the users who installed custom ROM's on their phones encountered this problem? Did anybody find a fix?
This is probably my 5th thread concerning the same problem in the kernels and yet i don't have a clear answer!
Seems like no one encountered this problem huh? lucky me
I've encountered it but I don't really care as after you turn your screen off it goes and you can barely hear it.

Yes but why have the irritating noise in the first place? It kinda ruins the music experience, just hope someone's working on fixing this.
So, I have an idea.
If I use profiles in SetCPU, with a dramatic change of frequency space, different to the normal running frequencies, than it seems to me that the switch cracked noise is heavier than without using profiles.
Normal: 148-930MHz, ScreenOff: 148-370 --> makes hard noise
Normal: 148-930MHz, NO Profile --> barely noise, but there
Kyrillos 6.x was my first high OC ROM, so I definitly used SetCPU and wanted to cut down the power consumption by using "ONDEMAND".
That failed completly! Cause with ondemand I got quiet the same noise as mentioned from you guys, but AT ALL TIMES!
The difference between conservative and ondemand is, that frequency is realy more rapidly changed! So for every single cpu usage, it goes high up but realy fast back to 148 again. --> In mind: Many freq changes!
Back to my idea. For me it is the frequency changing, maybe the voltage jump between the frequencies. I guess there is the problem digged.
A chance to get rid of this may be to change frequencys in an other way. Maybe not with steps, but with a real smooth upgoing MHz per MHz...if that is impossible, I think so because even computer cpus are chaning step to step, the voltage increasing/deincreasing should be made smooth. No idea how, but this is my thought^^
Realy hope you guys find something
EDIT: with ondemand but fixed by sliders to a single frequency realy stops that noise!!! So it realy must be the frequency/voltage changing.

That seems like a logical conclusion, that by changing the degree to which the frequencies change the noise could be controlled.

I notice it too, i think this is exactly what happens whihc results in the noise. Dev's are you listening?
I really hope that somebody comes up with a solution.
Need a quick fix for this, it's driving me nuts. Degrading to any stock firmware (eclair or froyo) isn't working at all!
I have the exact same problem and its really bugging me coz im really ocd over sound quality. I've also tried flashing back to stock froyo but the stupid noises are still there...
HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!!!
Are there any ROMs/Kernels that don't have this 'static/crackling in music' problem?
I have crackling problem in music too. I have kyrillos 7.1 OC. Someone knows what's wrong?
Flashing to CyanogenMod has seemed to do the trick for music but now I have no video playback

[Q] How to change nexus 7 cpu hot-plug settings ?

Hello,
I've noticed that mkernel ([email protected] 7) takes a little bit longer to switch more cores online (some times the CPU can stay at 100 for 1_2 sec) and that kind of problem never happened on stock kernel so is there any way to change hot-plug settings to switch on more cores faster ?( at lower load ) please note that I'm already on interactive covernor
Thanks in advance.

That is not really a legitimate reason. There is a reason for the post requirement.
The hot plug configuration is set to what the kernel dev believe is optiomal (battery/performance) if by looking in the thread you notice you are the only one withnp that opinion, it would be wise to assume it will not change for 1 user and perhaps you would be better finding a kernel that suits you instead of requesting a change for you.

I'm not requesting a change don't get me wrong I just want to know how to change that (like changing some values in text file located somewhere in the kernel ). Plus the kernel is very very good and I don't want to change it.

Oh hey I think I might be helpful here.
Honestly I don't know what to tell you. The hotplug up2gn delay (the time tegra autohotplug will wait to see if load goes down before switching on another G core) has been increased by .01 seconds from stock in alpha 30. From 140ms (stock) to 150ms (a30).
How are you watching your CPU to make your "stuck at 100%" for one to two second assessment?
Are you sure you're using the latest alpha?
Strange as no one else seems to have this issue.
(Side note - why do people post questions... literally with [Q] in the title... in general instead of q/a?)

First thanks for your kernel and your support
I use resource monitor mini and I didn't noticed this issue on stock kernel as the CPU usage always below 75%.
Yes a30
Maybe they just don't monitor their CPUs usage .
I think because q question (when I don't know the answer)
And q/a (when I ask a question and I know the answer)
Just my opinion.

[Q] Do custom roms respect Google's thermal throttling?

Hi guys, Getting delivery of my nice new N4 tomorrow and already looked out the custom roms I fancy trying but I saw some videos with people describing lagging in some games, which is most likely explained by this video (which the forum won't let me post) ...
Youtube url = abf7nPiUUE8
In it, the presenter explains what thermal throttling Google has applied to stop the phone bursting into flames and killing everyone.
My question is, as the title says, do all the custom roms respect these thermal throttling values or will I find custom rom makers changing these to dangerous values just so their rom has the illusion of much more speed and performance of other roms even though this would come at the cost of possible bricking/destroying your phone and possibly injuring you or putting your life in danger.
Sorry if I made it sound over-dramatic.

Yes, you made it very dramatic. No dev will intentionaly build a rom or kernel to fry your cpu just to get higher clock speeds or benchmark results. Undervolting with a custom kernel will save you from some heat issues also.

Thanks for the answer although you didn't actually answer my query, I was wondering if someone could check their custom rom and tell me if the same file is there, with the same values as Google had set, just so I can confirm if custom rom designers use the same values.

Why not just look yourself? It is not that hard to DL a rom and have a look.
none of the kernels(yes, kernels not roms. roms have nothing tio do with it) disable thermal throttle, many raise the limit slightly though. but, there are many of us, like me, that chose to disable thermal throttle manually. and no, your phone wont burst into flames and explode. there still exists a safety, when you hit this safety temp of 100C, the phone will automatically turn off. yes, its safe to get that hot. and you will never ever reach that temp if you arent just trying to get your phone hot.

Most custom kernels are modfied stock kernels, better check the kernel threads but i guess they follow the stock kernel directory`s. As said undervolting decreases heat considerably especialy when gaming and performing intensive tasks .

Top Download Speed on Mobile Data

Dear All,
I have seen that out device gives less speed as compared to other devices (e.g MI and Iphones). Can you please comment with top speed you have got on mobile data and also ROM details.
I have seen Iphone give 7 Mbps,
MI phones giving 3 Mbps
And our device (Arrow PIE) 1.5 Mbps on same network (Jio)
I saw 20 megabyte / second at good signal. Now i'm using miui but not that good for network' speed.

On which ROM did you get 20 Mbps?
My high speed download was 64 mbps on mobile data.
My speed is about 10MP/s

Jaguar ROM latest and Jio
Today the speed
Vodafone on jaguar
Device :- Z2 Plus 4GB
Baseband/firmware :- 1.70 from Zui 4.0.xxx
ROM :- Any Custom ROM (Oreo or Pie)
Network :- Reliance Jio 4G (India)
Location :- Kolkata and tested other places too..
Now this is very subjective as we all know with network performance and load.
But Z2 Plus isn't slow in any sense compare to other phones when it comes to LTE performance.
Thanks..

I have or I posted screenshot from one particular ROM doesn't mean that it's the fastest.
I have seen similar if not better results with most of the ROMs that I have tried.
So namely,
Oreo :- AEX/PE/AiCP.. Few others, I have forgotten..
Pie :- AEX/PixysOS(present setup)
For my setup and test locations, ROM or kernel never mattered. They all performed similar. Network strength, and load in network are the main factors for me to see the different speed. It's all on backend hardware and their capabilities. If network is fast enough, if testing server is fast enough, Z2 Plus does hit some insane speeds.
Only difference for internet performance that I cry on is with 2.4GHz WiFi performance since many ROMs for some reason come with link limited to 72mbps where as some are capable of hitting full 150mbps link.
We have detailed discussion on this if you remember regarding 2.4GHz channel bonding and root solutions for force enabling it on those certain restricted ROMs..
I have few insane 5.8GHz speed test results but unfortunately I am still searching for them. Took them on a night shift at office when we removed all speed restrictions for fun.. lol..

I meant to ask what rom is this.. coz looking for rom change .
May be will go back to crdroid oreo
I am aware that most roms only differ in ui and the ux developed by Devs and the sources.. everything else is same behind the scene.. coz all is android.. and hardware being same as well..
Small incident .. at my place I get maximum 30-40kbps.. sometime in evening can't even open XDA .. internet is soo slow.. 4G JiO.. but this weekend I was getting 3.5-4 and even 5 Mbps ... So I know it's not the rom .
Just FYi, syberia supports 150 mbps
@sanjay.2704
I am presently with PixysOS. You may not like it due to the lack of customisation but for me, it's good enough to configure the phone just the way I want it.
Over-all excellent performance or battery backup.

I just moved back to crdroid..
I got this with msm xtended
In my college I have a 802.11n standard network wifi, I usually get around 120-130 mbps.
While on jio I get atmost 1 mbps without carrier aggression, but if my network switches to carrier aggression then sppeds are way higher(depends on location atleast 5mbps to even 30+mbps)

Mobile network data speeds are really subjective of multiple factors.. Mainly the location. Since parameters effecting the performance and speed at every location is bit different.
For example in my home, network of most of the service providers are really strong. My primary network Jio performs really great even within indoor locations. Crossing 70+ mbps regularly at night hours.
Sadly if I walk up just 800m to our local club and Jio crawls and struggle to even touch 1 mbps !! Usually stays at around that 300/500kbps mark there.. Did multiple complains from multiple users but Reliance always admits their inability to fix due to so called high demand and excess number of users at that given location.
Idea 4g on viperos 8.1 oreo
