You would need custom kernel's to OC... which I look forward to.
I just bought my G2 but I'm having activation issues (porting from VZW). I have to go to a TMo store tomorrow (Bought it at Radio shack)
It doesn't work yet. It sounds stupid, but I tried other phone profiles that could possibly enable 1+ghz but to no avail...

Even with the right profile u still need a kernel... once a permanent root happens the roms will start the kernels will start.. good start to the holidays

so, obviously you can't overclock without the right kernal, but... setcpu doesn't seem to be working at all though in terms of controlling the clock speed. its allowed superuser access but turning max frequency down doesn't prevent the speed from ramping up to 800mhz, nor does setting the minimum to 800 prevent it from scaling down.
I presume this everyone else's experience too?
Yes...Because you need a custom kernel.
I'm pretty sure u don't need a custom kernel to underclock do u?

It will but it isn't really necessary as the kernel will scale up and down on its own. Running that widget is just one more service occupying memory.
The defaults on MixUp are set to default 1000 Mhz which is same as stock -- You will need SetCPU or overclock in order to boost your speeds to 1200 Mhz. I recommend SetCPU. When I was on hero had bad experience w/ overclock. Never once have I with SetCPU.
Argh! I stand corrected. Thanks for the heads up; I've got setcpu installed now.

to overclock, yes you would need to use setCPU. However, I am unsure whether the smartass governor would take effect whether or not you had setCPU to OC with.
Thanks! I'm new to this but figured it would make no sense to install the kernel with no way to actually OC. I like alot of the roms out but I'm happier with the stock setup the way I've modded it. Removed the bloat I know I'll never use, changed the boot ani, battery icon on status bar....etc. Short press google/long press Genius (the way it should be!)
This phone is amazing once rooted!

It sure is also, while setCPU is a paid app, its increased my speed and battery life several hours beyond that of the normal speeds with no profiles set for screen off or battery level. Well worth the buck, in my opinion.
btw, dont forget the thanks button
Hmmm all I get is boot screen locks or loops. With and with out cache/dalvik wipes. Is it a requirement to have set cpu installed prior to flashing this kernel?

I dunno if this'll help at all, but I'm on pretty much the exact same setup (rooted, stock, removed bloatware, changed battery in status bar, changed genius button to google search, etc.) and faux123's kernel loaded right up for me, I followed his instructions and came from grankin's kernel.
I have SetCPU but I only use it to OC it a bit, I have max to 1209, no profiles. I'm not sure how much it changes and helps, some days it's really good but today it's been unplugged for 3 hours and it's at 80% with a few texts, about 20 min of internet and 20 min on XDA app.

That's because you don't know how setCPU works apparently
It works perfectly, setCPU allow you to modify the frequency of the processor within the range allowed by the kernel.
So once again, we need a custom kernel that modifies the voltage and frequencies allowed for setCPU to go higher than 1Ghz.
Just curious why do you wan't to overclock the phone, is it to slow?
What will happen if you overclock:
- higher battery drain
- Phone gets really hot
- it makes the cpu unstable
I never overclocked my phones and even the hero still runs fast.

Yes you are right the maximum is 1024 cant go any further i didn't know that he meant to go above 1024
before open such threads you should know about overclocking, of course setcpu wont enable overclock with stock kernel, why should it???
Speed is something which we always want more .. If we get Dual Core with 1.2Ghz still we need to over to push the limit. That's human nature ....
I have got overclocked Xperia Neo and when it was on 1.8 ghz it was 1. stable 2. cold 3. and really fast! but when you start to play somethink yes then it is really hot and it drain a battery too much I think oc is good.
Sorry for my bad English
Is there such thing as a safe overclock speed? Will my phone blow up for running it at 1.2 on a daily basis? (I searched for this topic but couldn't find anything specific to the glacier)
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
The cpu in this phone overclocks well. 1.2 definitely won't hurt it. I've known people who ran everyday at 1.5.
I have an excellent cable internet service, with wireless. As such, I don't notice a real difference when I'm on WiFi. I wouldn't want to overclock anymore than 1.2 to 1.4

I'm just referring to the overall speed and performance of the handset. I haven't noticed any better performance with my phone being overclocked...isn't that the purpose of overclocking, to increase speed & performance? If not I am misunderstanding the purpose of overclocking?
I was just saying that with browsing and overall usage on my WiFi connection its hard to notice any changes whether I'm running at 1 GHz or 1.5 GHz ....
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium
Overclocking doesn't speed up internet service though. It just speeds up scrolling through pages, windows, opening applications and overall performance within the applications and device.
I would get SetCPU, then you probably are fine up to 1.4 ghz. I really can't recommend pushing it higher because there isn't a noticable performance increase. I use SetCPU and i am clocked at around 122Mhz-1.3Ghz with a screen off profile of 122-768Mhz and a temperature profile of 32C> 122Mhz-1.0Ghz.
I know, a lot to take in but i get really good battery life with that stuff. If you get SetCPU, experiment.
Also, here are the take away messages.
1. USE SETCPU, ITS AWESOME
2.DON'T PUSH IT TO 2GHZ. YOU WILL FRY YOUR MOTHERBOARD

I have been running at 1.2 for a year now and no problems whatsoever. Actually, what I have found has helped performance was to set the minimum CPU a little higher. It allows for a little less lag while your CPU is "spinning up." (I mean at 230, not at 500 or something)
1.2 is a very stable Overclock. You shouldn't run into any problems with that setting. Anything above 1.5 I wouldn't mess with, and you probably wouldn't see much of a real world speed increase from it anyway.

Lol to be honest that hasn't happened to me once yet
Just to let people know, here's some other 4.0+ bugs I noticed
Headphones plugged in and your phone playing music will make your phone overheat. Synthetic.Nightmare has a ics Rom where that problem wasn't there, it also wasn't there for sense roms.
CPU won't stay where you want it. Basically I've been shuffling through a lot of roms, and whatever I set the CPU to, it doesnt stay there, it usually goes to 768 max and 192 min. Or it goes full out and sets itself to 245max and min. This has been in all roms over 4.0 that I've used. Sadly even the sense ones.
But in the end, you gotta give some credits to the devs, our phone would have still been running cm7 if it wasn't for them.
And if anyone is reading this, do you know any ics+ roms that have beats audio ported from other devices and can set their CPU to a specific value? Mostly just the CPU thing though
