I initially installed 2.2 leaked version. Now how do I officially move to ota version? There's just too much info out there and its confusing. I don't want to brick my phone so I an just scared. Also, I didn't see a how to for this when I searched.
Thanks in advanced.

I'm new to android but as I understand you have to flash back to 2.1 and and be sure you haven't installed themes or deleted factory apps then you can install the OTA froyo
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
if you are running the 2.3.15 leak than you have the same system as the ota. the only thing you dont have is the kernel (which is said to not have any significant changes), a changed bootloader with no improvments other than to try and lock the phone down more, and an updated baseband which is a minimal update and you dont need if you don't have any signal issues. That being said heres your answer
You need to use rsd lite and the 2.1 .sbf file to restore your phone to stock 2.1 then you can update. If you made a backup of you 2.1 system you can restore it AFTER using the 2.1 .sbf file. or you can re enter your stuff again.
after you have 2.1 with stock (i beleive rooted is fine but not sure) you can then got to settings, about phone, check for updates and download the update and install it.
At this time i don't think there is an easier way or direct way to go from leak to ota. I would suggest you use titanium backup or some other backup to backup all your apps and data so you can restore them once your on OTA 2.2 and rooted. remember not to restore any system files or apps (example: text messages or accounts) it will cause constant sync icon in notification and only way to remove is to wipe and start over.
Im on the original leaked 2.3.9. Can I just flash the 2.3.15 leaked update.zip and be done with it? Or will I still have to flash 2.1 and update?
I havent removed any bloatware or any thing else. Just 2.3.9 stock rooted.
Thanks guys for the directions.

Recently I finally got around to rooting my X to get rid of some of the bloatware that is on the phone. I realized about 30 seconds after removing them that I might not should have done that for fear of future updates not installing correctly.
Now today the update has come out and this morning I tried to install it. I thought everything was going fine, the phone rebooted and I got a popup stating that the update had failed.
Can someone please let me know what should be done so that I can get the update? I can't seem to find anywhere what I should do... I don't use any custom ROMs or anything, just the plain system the X came with (well now except for the missing bloatware)
Thanks in advance!
just put the bloatware back and update again
I've currently having the same issue. Is there a way to get the Verizon apps back from the market?

Well... I haven't been able to find all the individual files for what I deleted... to be honest I don't even remember what all was on there before it was deleted.
I tried doing a restore to factory and that did not work.
The Team Black Hat app has stock images available. Rom Manager's free edition might as well, but I'm not sure off the top of my head.
back up?
did you back up prior to deleting the bloatware? maybe run that back up and then update?

Sadly I did not
Look around for the 2.2 sbf and instructions for rsd and booting into the bootloader and not recovery. That should get you back to stock. Or look around for the 2.2.1 (340) sbf that will give you the update. I applied 2.2.1 without reloading the bloatware.

Cool thanks for the idea... so if I can load the 2.2.1 sbf that will put the phone back to the latest version with stock settings again?
EDIT: This method worked and I was able to update. Thanks a bunch!
Does anyone have the City ID bloatware APK that they can post?

Hi Andrew,
I am in the same position as you and need to get my apps back to stock to enable me to update. Can you tell me if the SBF will actually delete my data and applications, or is it just for the system only?
Also - is it difficult to apply? Finally - where did you get the SBF file from?
Thanks for your help
Android Central...how to reinstall bloatware....sorry I'm unable to submit the link here.It lists all apps.
Android central has a list of all apk's for all apps that came with 2.2. I googled reinsralling bloatware. Sorry I can't post the link, not allowed.

Question on wipe and/or restore if/when the next update comes out. I have apex 1.3.1 running with a nandroid back up. But my backup is not clean, on other words it does not go all the way back to before I flashed.
So, 1) will my phone update automatically when an ota is available? 2) do I have to wipe it clean and do a factory restore if I do in fact want to flash to the new OTA? 3) after doing an update I guess I have to literally start from scratch on root and flash because any restore would be based on the old version? 4) finally can I at least use my titanium backup regardless of rom?
Thanks in advance.

If the nandroid you have is not a clean backup, then yes, you will need to sbf and factory reset to get back to the option if an OTA comes out.
You can use titanium regardless tho =)
hopefully motorola is done messing around with froyo and the next OTA will be 2.3

Hard telling. My thought is that there will probably be another 2.2 release for the X before a 2.3 release pops out...
Not to be a pessimist... i would love to see 2.3 as soon as possible. I have seen someone saying that Verizon had been toying with a Gingerbread build on the X.
Excuse my noobishness please,
The Atrix is my first android phone. (Finally got bored of the iPhone).
I was looking at installing GreyBlur. Currently I'm on a rooted 1.8.3 (used afterroot.bat/gladroot).
My question is:
If installing GreyBlur using CWM, does it affect any of my existing data on the phone's internal storage, SD card, etc?
Would I be reinstalling apps and losing messages, etc, or does it retain everything?
Thank you!
No worries!
It should retain all of your data, music, etc. It's a pretty simple process.
My only advice: if you're switching to a different P-ROM (like from GingerBlur to GladAtrix), reflash your phone with RSD. I went from GingerBlur to GladAtrix and had tons of problems.

Awesome!
I'm probably going to stick with one PROM for now. If I was to reflash using RSD to switch over to a different rom, what's the deal with existing data?
Also, I know these roms are deodexed, and that causes an issue with receiving OTA updates. Assuming Motorola releases a new update sometime soon, how would I go about flashing to the updated firmware while retaining my information, or is it not possible?
I believe I had to use SBF recovery or something?
Thanks!

When you flash an sbf, your data and info will be reset so make sure to do a complete backup before flashing an sbf file.
As far as OTA updates go, I'm not well versed but I believe it is recommended to do a fresh sbf -> update OTA -> then install whatever P-ROM.
I THINK, devs are pretty quick about releasing the latest update though so you might just be able to flash from old P-ROM to update P-ROM ? again, just my assumptions.

I was just wondering what people always mean by 'complete backup'.
What I do is I backup my sd / ext-sd and also all the user apps/data with TitaniumBackup.
But is there a way to create a full image of the system to be able to recover it with CWM?
If yes, how?
Thanks

Ok So Im so sick of the GB OTA release date getting pushed back so I think im ready to apply the latest leak of GB manually. But first I have a few questions:
1. Can I get a link to the latest GB leak?
2. Is the latest leak rootable?
3. Will there be noticeable changes between the latest leak and the official OTA update?
4. IS there any way to apply the latest leak of GB without losing any data like apps and text messages without having to back them up with thirdparty apps?
Thanks a bunch!!
Latest GB leak (afaik) is 595 and yes, it is rooted. Use the search option in the forums and you will find lots of info.
Since .595 is just an update... If u allready have .588 or .591 installed u shouldnt have to wipe data.. I always do just to make sure I have a clean install. Worth a shot.

Just do a full nandroid backup in CWM, then do an advanced restore in CWM and restore the data for the backup. Worked like a charm for me.

Would that have the same effect of not wiping data before flashing a rom then?
I don't think so, because when I SBF, my /data is no longer intact. Anyway, it was P3's suggestion when moving from .573 GB back to Froyo, then up to .588 GB (.595 in my case).

I am just as sick of people posting questions asking about the leak.
So I originally rooted using SuperOneClick, then I got an OTA that broke root. I then found gingerbreak and rooted using that method. I have done a few cool things, like change the boot animation and lock/unlock sounds, enabled sideloading, etc.
Anyway...
With rumors and speculation about Gingerbread coming out in the coming months (hopefully), I am wondering if the boot animations, lock sounds, and/or SuperUser access will deny the OTA from installing. Is it a good idea to return the ROM to stock to avoid any bugs?
Second,
Specifically on the Atrix, if I performed a factory reset, I assume I won't lose root access, but would I lose the boot animations, and lock/unlock sounds? Let's say I wanted to return it to a 100% stock ROM (un-root, stock boot animation, EVERYTHING) before the 2.3 update comes, how would I do it? I feel as though if I perform an OTA with the mods I've done to it, some unknown bugs/issues would appear (I've seen PLENTY of bugs as is). Can anyone shed some light on this? Call me paranoid, but I've seen too many software issues with this phone, and I'm hoping 2.3 will address them, and I hope I don't introduce any new bugs by updating a modded phone.
You should definitely go back to stock. I doubt that you'll even be prompted if you're rooted, so you won't get the update to Gingerbread. Instructions to return to stock can be found on Motorola's website, by Googling, or from Android Central.
If I do a hard reset using Android Recovery, will that effectively unroot and restore EVERYTHING to the factory image? I know if I do a soft reset through the OS, I will still have root access. I realize I can just unroot using SOC, but there have been issues where busybox is still installed along with the superuser icon, even though the phone doesn't have root access. I just want a clean slate.

I have 4.1.83, and this will not work for it.
I would be interested in learning more about this too

This is a thread I commented on over at the Motorola forums. I actually got the forum manager to comment on the issue:
"rytymu
What do I do if I'm on 4.1.83 and want to return to stock (rooted)? The software given just says my device is up to date...
Mark (Forums Manager)
With next update/upgrade you will go up to next stock version. You have to
wait til then.
rytymu
So if I understand right:
I most likely will not get an OTA notification because of the root access, so when I run the Motorola Software Update program after the next update comes out, it will then flash a 100% stock image as if I just pulled it out of the box? This includes removing/wiping busybox, root access, boot animations, and EVERYTHING else?
Mark (Forums Manager)
If you are on 4.1.83 but modded you will get ota notification but will
likely fail on install. If MSU is made available you can update /upgrade to
that version. Root and other sideloaded things will be removed. Stock ATRIX
Att software. Not AOSP Android."
I guess this is what I'm looking for, unless someone interprets otherwise...

OTA update should be fine if you have not deleted any of the original Moto files/bloatware, or leave any of the original Moto bloatware frozen. The updates only throw up at you when there are missing or frozen Moto apps and/or files.
If you are on 4.1.83, (or any firmware), and rooted only, you will get the update fine, but will lose root.
If you have flashed for example GladiAtrix, you will more than likely have to flash back to stock first.
If you have rooted on any version and then frozen any apps, thaw those apps and you will update fine, but again lose root.
Every time you update you lose root.
So I have frozen all bloat, but I did uninstall swype and reinstall a newer version. Is this going to be a problem for the next ota? Am I going to have to do a fresh sbf flash or is there a way to reinstall the stock version of swype? I'm not sure I still even have that file...

If you installed a newer version of the same Swype, this should I imagine be the same as updating Swype. I'm thinking this would allow you to just unfreeze all the bloatware and update OTA. Only thing I can think of is that you try the OTA when it's available, and if it balks at you, flash back to stock.
I just followed another thread on XDA, and flashed to 1.26. After about 40 minutes, I had a fresh install. I then did a factory reset, as I was told that some user data and caches aren't touched by flashing (?). I did it just for good measure. I then went into the menu and updated to 4.1.57. I was tipped off (in an above post, actually) about some Motorola Softare Update program that will flash you from 4.1.57 to 4.1.83. The forum manager at Motorola instructed to do this to basiclly restore your phone if you had modified it (to clear the OTA check). Again, just for good measure, I used this to flash from 4.1.57 to 4.1.83 to be 100% sure I had a bone-stock phone.

The Moto Software Update is not needed, and Mark, or whoever over on the Moto forums did not "tip" you off to this. This is no secret, and is well known. (BTW, you are breaking the NDA just by saying you are in beta, (soak feedback forums are down in any event as they are always taken down between betas), but that's another story, and being in beta doesn't make you more knowledgeable either).
You have made this sound more complex than it is.
To go back to stock (and the instructions are all over the forums BTW) --->
Flash 4.1.26, OTA to 4.1.57, OTA to 4.1.83!..............Done!
Or ------------>
Flash 4.1.57 sbf, OTA to 4.1.83!..................Done!
People who were having the OTA notification issues, (continually popping up), were those who flashed the 4.1.83 sbf which is floating around, and that's why they were told to flash 4.1.83 through the Moto Update portal.
(Edited above statement)
