[Q] deleting preloaded google apps - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I just flahsed my HD2 and installed Android on it, but it has so many apps that I find useless such as Facebook, gmail, amazon mp3, navigation, etc. Is there a way to delete those?
This is my first time using Android...

Use Root Explorer go to /system/app delete app that you don't want.

Thread moved to "HD2 Android General Discussion" forum.

How do you guys organize your apps into folders?

So I've never been content with the way I organize all of my apps into folders because I'm always confused as what to label the folders and what how to distinguish some apps. For instance, how can I determine if an app can be considered a "tool" or not because in reality most of our apps are tools..
Right now i'm using miui which places all your apps on the home screen and I don't like having 5+ pages of just apps.
What would be the best way to organize my apps into folders as well as you Multicon to just organize things a bit? What do you guys do?
I also am running MIUI and I have three folders...tools, apps, and games. It's your phone, so you decide what is a tool or app.
I have three folders- Games, Apps, Tools. I'm running MIUI but I use launcher pro and use SiMi Folder Widget for my folders.
Things I have in my apps folder: MeCanto, Moviefone, Pandora, Ringdroid, Shazam, XDA and MIUI forums apps, Yelp, stuff like that.
Things in my tools folder:Astro, Autostarts, MIUI backup, Root Explorer, MIUI Monitor, Remote Desktop and all the benchmarking apps.
Hope this helps.

Apps disappeared after deleting folder

Hi! All. I created a folder & added some apps inside. But i decided to deleted the folder & the apps in it disappeared along with it. Is this normal?! Pls help cause i thought that by. Deleting the folder i'm just deleting the folder & not the apps but now the apps are nowhere to be seen
Hello, What launcher are you using? Does the Play Store (Market) still see them as installed?
It is a Touchwiz bug - please se my other posts about this. You will still be able to see the apps in the all apps draw, but to get them back elsewhere you will need to got to settings/applications find TWLauncher and clear data - this will lose your existing folder definitions and some widgets etc, but they will return in the app draw. Best move is to go across to Go launcher HD - more flexible, lag free homescreens and a much better approach to folder /apps organisation.

Are you referring to a folder that will share files between multiple profiles or something else? Free apps are only stored once, other profile users just go to Play to authorize the app on their profile, but it doesn't download again. Perhaps this thread can help:
How can I access files across users
The only thing I have in my "cher" folder is "Turn Back Time"
But to "share", use Dropbox, or the Google or Amazon cloud to store "big" files. Or any explorer app to share with your PC.

Dialer/contacts replacement

Hi, cm10.1 here.
I want to increase the free space on my system partition. Now Im looking for a dialer/contact app replacement.
Anyone got recommendations?
Also, this is critical, I need to know which /system apps/modules I can delete afterwards?
Thx and have a nice day.
one less gadget.
You can delete the CMWallpapers.apk (it's ~7MB).
Also, in the fonts folder, there are some big font files (for displaying the languages with different alphabets). Search for info about them:
DroidSansFallback
NanumGothic
MTLmr3m
If you don't need them, you can delete.
Also, you can delete some ringtones, alarms, etc.
Also, bootanimation.zip can be deleted.
And also video editor apk. Also install Google keyboard and delete latinime apk

I've heard that deleting dialler.apk breaks some things of the system. I recommend keeping the dialer.
EDIT - mediauploader.apk can be deleted if you don't use picasa. Calender can be replaced by the play store app. Browser, calculator, etc. can also be deleted if you use alternate apps. CMupdater, cmfilemanager, etc. can also be deleted. Live wallpapers, email, exchange, html viewer, phototable, development, stk, voicedialer, etc. can also be deleted.

Thx for your list, I was already through with most of those, will check more closely.
Trebuchet/ stock keyboard, are the biggest apps and the 1st things I delete after a new flash.
my system seems trimmed extensively already, so I thought about replacing the dialer, but you are right, seems to be a nogo.
Concerning the calender, titanium shows me a few calender modules in system, do you know if all of them could be deleted?

Delete calender.apk. Keep calenderprovider.apk.

[HELP] Funky Files in Download Folder, Where Are They Coming From?

Nexus 6p on project fi, running DP5, systemless rooted, systemless AdAway.
For several months now, I've been seeing some rather odd files in my downloads folder, and have been unable to find any related search results anywhere so I'm finally asking for help. They are particularly odd since they are very small plain text files written in what looks like Chinese or Korean (or at least that's how they show up on solid explorer).
Furthermore, whenever I look at these files, the last-modified date is within the last 12 hours or so. Whenever I delete them, they simply return, sometimes within hours.
The only apps that I've allowed storage permissions are the following: Avast mobile security, Google camera, cardboard, chrome, device manager, Dropbox, FlashFire, Google keyboard, Google play music, Google play services, hangouts, LIMBO demo, google messenger, new pipe (for YouTube, not from play store), Google photos, Snapchat, Snapseed, solid explorer, titanium backup, and walloid.
I know it is not new pipe, since the problem existed before that was downloaded. I can't imagine it was one of Google's apps. Does anyone know what's going on, or has anyone experienced something similar?
How can I find the origin of these files? There's nothing in the metadata that's of much(any) help. Also of note, these files only show up when viewing the downloads folder with solid explorer, as opposed to the built in one through settings.
Tl;dr: odd, persistent, small, Chinese plaintext files in download folder, need to find out where they're coming from
one way to find the culprit would be to delete the files, uninstall one app a day and see if the files are re added to your download folder. If they are, you know the uninstalled app isnt the culprit. Rinse and repeat until the files stop showing up.

Are there any log files or something else I can pull to see internet traffic to see where it came from?
