Hi, cm10.1 here.
I want to increase the free space on my system partition. Now Im looking for a dialer/contact app replacement.
Anyone got recommendations?
Also, this is critical, I need to know which /system apps/modules I can delete afterwards?
Thx and have a nice day.
one less gadget.
You can delete the CMWallpapers.apk (it's ~7MB).
Also, in the fonts folder, there are some big font files (for displaying the languages with different alphabets). Search for info about them:
DroidSansFallback
NanumGothic
MTLmr3m
If you don't need them, you can delete.
Also, you can delete some ringtones, alarms, etc.
Also, bootanimation.zip can be deleted.
And also video editor apk. Also install Google keyboard and delete latinime apk

I've heard that deleting dialler.apk breaks some things of the system. I recommend keeping the dialer.
EDIT - mediauploader.apk can be deleted if you don't use picasa. Calender can be replaced by the play store app. Browser, calculator, etc. can also be deleted if you use alternate apps. CMupdater, cmfilemanager, etc. can also be deleted. Live wallpapers, email, exchange, html viewer, phototable, development, stk, voicedialer, etc. can also be deleted.

Thx for your list, I was already through with most of those, will check more closely.
Trebuchet/ stock keyboard, are the biggest apps and the 1st things I delete after a new flash.
my system seems trimmed extensively already, so I thought about replacing the dialer, but you are right, seems to be a nogo.
Concerning the calender, titanium shows me a few calender modules in system, do you know if all of them could be deleted?

Delete calender.apk. Keep calenderprovider.apk.

When using Gallery it shows all types of pics regardless if they are photos, Icons, Defaults, FrmStart, FrmQuick, Popups, alarms, data, etc. Is there an app that will allow you to pick/choose what is brought up and displayed? I don't want or need to see all this extra junk. Thanks in advance.

The easiest "app-less" way to do this is to place a .nomedia file in the directories you want not to show up. You can also place a "." in front of the name of the directory (folder) itself, but this will cause problems if that folder is used by android or other apps.

I have the nomedia app. So, this also works for music and all media files, too. Thank you!

Used the Find All option for nomedia app and it only ID 5 Directories. Tried Multi-Select and it showed all directories. Picked the ones that I thought I could ID that do not contain Pics/Photos and that is most of them. However, even then I still have over 30 more items shown using Gallery that do not really contain pics/photos such as:
various apps, browser, common, controls, data, default, frmaddalarm, and other frm items, icons, etc.
So, this is not the answer to reducing items that show up in Gallery. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.
Just received my grandson's Elocity A7 and updated it to the 2.0124, but have a few questions (as always)...
#1- He doesn't use Facebook, Amazon, etc.. and I wanted to delete them from the desktop. However, when I hold my finger on one of them and move to trashcan, and go back to desktop, the icon is still there. Why? How do I delete and icon/program from the desktop?
#2- It has Gejar Apps. Is that where we would download addtl apps? Is that the same as Google Market Place?
#3- What is Fring: Aldiko; Appoke; Dev Tools; Documents to go; FBReader; IMDb; Kindle; OI File Manger; Spare Parts and Twidroud Pro?
Are they all required? If we delete the desktop icons, do the programs (actual program taking up space) still remain? And if so, should/could we delete those also to free-up space?
Thanks very much for your help.
Alice
P.S. The power button is very, very small, isn't it? Does anyone else have a problem with it? It is hard to get my finger into the tiny opening.
Thanks.
Alice
Deleting Icons
The system apps must be deleted using a special application written to work with the root directory of the device. I found Titanium Backup to work very well. It is a application back up program but it also gives you an uninstall option. I was able to delete Amazon Shopping and Amazon MP3 very easily. Google Titanium Backup.
Get Jar and other ?'s
#2- It has Gejar Apps. Is that where we would download addtl apps? Is that the same as Google Market Place?
GetJar is an app store much like Market Place. The difference being a lot of the apps on GetJar have been resized to work with tablets. A lot of Market Place apps are sized for phones only. this is changing on a daily basis as more tablets are sold.

these are all apps and app stores. You can delete them if you like. If you want more storage you can use a micro SD card up to 32GB.

I tried 'everything' to delete Aldiko and Appoke, but cannot seem to get them off the Elocity. Are they 'permanent' and cannot be deleted? That would not be nice that we could not remove them if we would never use them. They are just taking up space!
Hi again,
I`m new to android and have now got my Wildfire rooted and running the latest Wilpuzzle rom.I`ve also got live wallpapers running, got overclocking running and even Angry Birds so thanks to everyone for the help and advice on these forums.
The last little thing that is now got me is can you permanantly delete trash. As I`ve been playing around I have quite often put things on the screen then wanted to get rid of the icon etc.
So I do a long press and the trash icon appears in the notification bar at the top then I just drag the item to the bin and it`s gone.Over the past couple of weeks I`ve done this loads of times. My question is- Is there a permanent delete option like on Windows or is it permanently deleted each time I drag it to the trash?
If the permanent delete option is there where is it?
Thanks again
you can remove the app by downloading apps like easy uninstaller or uninstaller from the market.
or you can uninstall them from menu - settings - apps - manage apps... etc
or if you're using launcher pro, open app drawer, long press an app and drag it over the trash can until it says drop to uninstall, or something like that.
For the built in widget's, I dont think there is a permanent delete option. But, for 3rd party apps, you can simply uninstall the app itself.
you can also delete any folders that have been created by discarded apps using a file explorer
Thanks for the replys,
I have a file explorer and also know how to uninstall unwanted apps, but what I want to know is,when you drop something in the trash can, is it automatically permanently deleted or is it like Windows trash can where the files or whatever are dropped into sit with the option to permanently delete or restore.
If it is where do I find it on the system to find the recently deleted files/apps etc?
It (The widget) is just removed from the home screen, that's it. Its not uninstalled or removed or anything. (Unless you use LauncherPro/ADW's Uninstall Feature from the Trash Can).
Widgets are basically "functioning" shortcuts like the shortcuts on your Windows Desktop (Eg: Windows Vista/7 Clock, Calendar Widget etc), and, the same effect occurs when you remove a widget as is the case with removing a windows shortcut, i.e., only the shortcut gets removed. The app remains untouched. You can add it later as and when desired.
Lastly, there is no concept of Recycle Bin in Android as far as I know to view recently deleted apps / files etc.

Thanks 3xeno thats exactly what I wanted to know.
Is there a way to edit the names of the Shortcuts on Home screen with the default Home Launcher? For example, I'd like to change "Dolphin HD Browser" to just "Dolphin". I don't like seeing the names being cut off.
I'm sure the information is around somewhere and I am also guessing the device would need to be rooted to do the job as well. Wish is was as simple as it was on WinMo 6.5 but it probably isn't.
Nope doesn't need root, simply install Folder Organizer, the app ownz by allowing you to put your apps in folders like iOS and also gives you easy way to rename the icons, uninstall the apps, etc

Nice, Thanks for the tip. Installin now...
I use desktop visualizer to rename shortcuts. Plus it's able to set custom icons too. Somewhat similar to folder organizer but it can't organize apps.
Anybody know how to get rid of all the junk collection of non-photos in the Oneplus Gallery app. Or have a workaround in the stock software. The Gallery app shows photos taken from the camera app, and a " collection folder " at the bottom which stores a ton of garbage gifs of game screens, icons, etc that fill the folder.
Google Photos are NOT showing included in the Gallery app, and you can't share the Google pics from the photo app to text or share on facebook without saving them directly to another folder in app before sharing. .
If you open photos in facebook, the options are littered with like 1,000 gifs, of hearts, and emoticons, game screens, etc with the few camera photos mixed in from the Oneplus Gallery App.
I'd like to know where oneplus is storing these and wondering if I can get rid of the garbage " collection " folder or somehow replace that app as default to make the phone more usable for a family member. They love the phone but need facebook, and this is a major hangup for them that I'd like to help resolve. Can't find the folder with gallery folders with the explorer app I installed. They don't seem to be in DCIM. I may get my hands on phone this evening but any directions / solutions would be appreciated.
Thanks
I've noticed too so I'd appreciate it as well
still an issue.
It's been mentioned on Oneplus Website a couple times too. I searched the photo names ( long string of numbers ) and found the folder they were in. Deleted the folder and it got rid of a bunch, then deleted them individually. Slowed the problem but didn't stop it. Also tried to lock down the Gallery app from writing to phone with no luck.
Hoping they solve the problem pretty quickly with a software update or workaround. It's an annoying issue.
But I've not seen a resolution yet.

You should be able to create a file in the same directory as the icons named .nomedia (including the full stop at the start) using es file explorer etc. This informs android not to scan this folder for media files. I have had the same issue on previous phones in the past and this normally solves the issue. You may need to clear the data and cache from the gallery app to remove any icons already displayed after.

LOL well spotted. Corrected :good:
Found a solution that seems to be working
I did a factory reset - and chose not to transfer all apps / data / settings, instead downloading each individual app to phone along with manual setup. I also disabled the "Oneplus Gallery" app from writing to the phone in app settings, while grabbing a random Gallery app from Play store. So far, for the day, seems to be working. I'm seeing no stickers pop up on the phone.
< Crossing fingers >
I'd be happy if I can get rid of the "Recently Deleted" feature.

You're the man!! It totally worked as easy as that! I created one in the "Android\data" folder and directly on the "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.facebook.orca/files/stickers/" that's it they disappeared.
Thanks again
The .momedia thing was pretty funny, you can imagine doing that and then android doubles the trash, you did after all ask for... mo.
I delete all that with this app
