so my streak just broke. it fell out of my pocket and hit the ground and cracked the screen. i call dell and ask if they can repair andd they tell me at this moment they have no repair center for the streak, so i have to buy another one. but im not going to buy another, im just going to at t and getting a samsung captivate... Any thoughts????
Thoughts about you buying a Captivate?
Thoughts about the whole situation...is there any thing I can do to get my streak replaced or something and if switching to the captivate would be a good move

it really sucks that they can sell a device with no repair options for the customer to pay for I have registered a complaint with my credit card compnay about the purchase with no service options. They stated to me that they had no repair center for the streak i asked them how do the justify the one year warranty with no repair option. i so miss my streak been dead as **** for a week.
yea they told me the same thing, no repair center. how can that be possible.
Oh! I am shocked. The company that is run by Mr. Accounting Irregularity himslef, the king of crappy capacitors, Michael Dell, is taking money for extended warranties to a product that they cannot repair anywhere. This is truly unexpected.
Just say no to Dell!

look on the bright side. you can get a new dell streak now for under $500 with tax through dell

If it's a guarantee problem they replace it without any quibbles, if it's not you'll just have to wait. The Streak is flying off the shelves faster than they can make them so there are no spare parts available just now. Eventually you'll see parts start appearing and then maybe Dell will start a repair service.
So do you think that eventually they will be able to repair a cracked screen or not

I think just what I posted... maybe.
yea but the cracked screen specifically, would it be possible to fix
Writing now from the cracked screen streak as well. Dropped it this evening from the height of about 1.5m to the concrete, right across London abercrombie and fitch. The screen is all covered with spiderweb of cracks but works flawlessly as LCD board survived without any issues. The chassis of the phone proved itself to be rigid armed there is only one scratch mark right where the impact took place. Everything works, when I dropped my streak a friend of mine was calling, so I just lifted it up and answered the call and only after I finished I burst into tears going to carphone warehouse tomorrow, hopefully they will replace the screen for me.
Damn. Still so painful.

I just got a letter back from Amex with an RMA number for dell. They are refunding the total amount of the streak to me.
Dell replaced mine without a problem
I called Dell tech support and they forwarded me to Dell mobility who indicated that Dell will replace the cracked screen with a FREE once in a lifetime replacement. Further they paid all the shipping for the cross-shipment.
Two days later I had my replacement unit in my office, and on Monday I will send them back my broken one. I used the Dell PC Suite to back and restore all my data and I am happy as a clam.
Needless to say, I didn't even take the new item out of the box until I had bought my new Otterbox!
Dell Rocks! (On this one at least.) Nice customer service experience guys.
Since all Streak's bought from Dell include a 1 year warranty, why not just tell Dell it won't power on anymore (or something that makes them believeit's a defect covered under warranty). Mine came with something like a 1 day exchange, so by the time you get a replacement and mail back your broke Streak, there is nothing they can do about it. That way you could even blame whatever company they tell you to use for shipping.

Dell is sending me another phone
It sounds like Dell will send you one new phone. I told them my screen cracked. I was asked if I dropped it and said yes. It also sounds like the replacement phone will still have 1.6 and will be locked. I was also told that all the phones will be updated by the end of Dec. My screen wasn't that bad, I wonder if I should have waited. All and all I am pertty happy.
Cracked screen!
Hi,
I have also crakced my screen - well my 1 yr old son did!
I have just emailed O2 asking if they do repair them. As I have no insurance, I am expecting to pay up to £150.
Like above, I can use the touch controls too, but just have the bottom all smashed up and waiting to cut my finger-tip!
Anyone had their screen replaced from UK? How much did it cost?
Thanks!
I posted an ebay link in another thread (don't remember which). Actually it's not a link but an item number you can search. you can order replacement screens/glass and it comes with DIY instructions on replacing it.

I´m in Chile and want to get a Streak but my problem is i´ve read a lot of threads of people who wake up to a shattered LCD with the streak not even falling once, or others that a drop from 2 feet shatters the gorilla glass. I´m about to pay $550 + shipping to chile + taxes here in chile, so it´s about $700 dollars for me, and I don´t want to wake up one day, pick up the streak from my desk and find the screen shattered. Are these problems common? has your Streak´s survived some falls?
And a second question, does anyone know if dell has international warranty for the Dell Streak. If my screen breaks here in chile can i get a replacement from Dell Chile? I´ve bought Dell notebooks in the past in USA and they have international Warranty but not sure about the streak.
I tried to chat with dell and ask them. The first agent said that it did have international warranty. Just to be sure I logged in again and asked the same question and another agent said that it didn´t have international warranty. and a 3rd agent said that dell doesn´t sell phones, only computers.
Hope you guys can help me out. thanks
First of all my streak screen and glass is broken just by putting my streak in pocket. But I still dont dislike the phone. THe phone is a great product, BUT the problem is the way Dell is handling well everything to do with the Streak.
Dell agents are useless, but They do have a international warranty, but it doesn't cover the screen or physical damage. If you damage the screen then you're screwed because dell doesn't even have repair department set up. They won't even let you pay to get it fixed. The warranty only covers hardware or software defects that happened due to manufacture problems. Otherwise Dell will tell you to go f*** yourself. Im not joking. That's what they told me.
I have heard that if you are persistent, they will replace your Streak from screen breakage. You especially have a strong case if you're one of those whose screen broke with no trauma.

so i broke my dell streak a month ago, the screen cracked. and when i called dell a month ago they said im sorry but thats not under our warranty and cant be fixed your only option would be to buy a new one. so i said screw dell im buying a captivate. now a month later i see the streak just lying around and decided to call up. i ask first if its still under warranty, they said it was and whats the problem. so i told them the screen cracked. this time they told me that it certainly is under your warranty and they ll send me a brand new one in 3-5 days. so my question is why a month ago they couldnt replace it and now they can instead they made me waste 200 dollars on a new captivate? which btw is very good.
Cause the warranty replacement process is like a crap shoot. If at first you don't succeed, try your luck again.

I just purchased my Streak less than two weeks ago. It came with 2 stuck pixels(one bright green in the center of the screen) and then developed 2 dead pixels as well. I called Dell and had my new replacement the next day. They sent a whole new retail package and said to keep all the original accessories and ship back only the phone. Very impressive service and very friendly. The only issue I had was they forgot to send a return label and it was harder and took longer to get that than it did the phone. They did mention after the first 30 days are up they send out refurbs instead.
I am now a member of the "I dropped my damn phone" club. Landed face down right on top of a piece of gravel.
I have searched for and found a few sources for reasonably priced digitizers/screens and have a few concerns. I've read here and a few other places that the ones we find as consumers may be rejects from HTC. Several forums mention light leaking from the lower buttons (home/menu/back/search) and response issues.
Anyone done a replacement and found these issues? If you are satisfied with the replacement, care to share your source?
Weird that you mentioned light leaks... my first Aria had small pin hole dots beside the search button and under the menu button... drove me nuts in low light areas.
As far as the replacement screen... I dropped my phone 3 weeks ago, and got a replacement in the mail the next day from ATT. The insurance is worth it.
Good luck!

What did you tell ATT? I tried calling in to get my phone replaced. The mistake I made was adding the insurance after I dropped it, so they were not able to help me out. It happened last month. I read through ATT, they will not replace the phone if you dropped it accidentally, and the cracked screen is not preventing it from functioning properly. I want to call again and say I just dropped it so I could get a replacement. Any incite on what to say?
I got sooo lucky...well, I should find out by Tuesday. I called AT&T to see about having their repair place do the screen replacement. They advised me that I had purchased insurance and all would be taken care of (relieved/surprised). They transferred me to the repair place and they said I didn't have insurance. Got transferred back to customer service they said they screwed up when the told me that I had insurance. You bet they screwed up...long story short, they confessed that they "misled and misinformed me" and that all would be taken care of. They entered the insurance purchase as of day 1 and all I have to pay is the deductable. New phone shipping overnight (no extra charge) and they don't want the old one.
I'm still going to replace the digitizer, keeping it for me, my wife shall get the new one for Christmas!
One key factor in the negotiation is that they misled me and that I was about to go buy her a new android device anyway. Their misleading and misinformation encouraged me to consider a different device from a different carrier. That is what made them "correct their mistake" and "take care of me". I got lucky. As long as the new device makes it to my door!
I just told them my phone took a fall for the worse, explained to them the digitizer still worked, and that the screen was just really shattered! The were like okay, we will get you one out today.
Wont replace it if you "accidentally" drop it? WTF?

Dear Michael Dell and Dell Customer Service,
I doubt any of you at Dell saw this post yesterday, but my streak took a small tumble (less than 1 foot) and the screen shattered.
Before I start getting a bunch of people writing back saying, “No manufacturer covers accidental damage, etc, etc, etc…”
I worked in retail for nearly 5 years I am well aware that manufacturers and companies as a whole generally do NOT cover accidental damage with their standard warranty.
That being said quite a few of the memebers at the StreakSmart Forums have spoken up and said that all it took was a quick call to Dell explaining the situation and they shipped you a BRAND NEW Dell Streak no questions asked. This raised my spirits until I actually made my call to Dell Mobility Tech Support (800-308-3355 & 800-624-9896).
After being placed on hold while they “pulled up my information” I was informed since this is physical damage to the screen it will have to go to the Out-of-Warranty department. Okay I thought this is different from what everyone has been telling me.
Just over an hour passed when I heard from Arvind in the Out-Of-Warranty department. He informed me that since this was considered physical damage it voids the warranty and they can not just replace it. Instead they can offer me a new unit at the reduced price of $249.99. I balked at this price tag and told Arvind I could walk down the street to Best Buy and get it for $99 after renewing my contract with AT&T so I’m going to have to think about it.
After getting off the phone I returned to the forums to update my post and see what people thought I should do.
While waiting for some input from others, I decided to take to Google and see what else I could find on people having their streak screens shatter and the resolutions to their situations.
That lead me to this thread over on XDA. While reading through I found these posts:

After researching broken screens, I was fearing the worst, but I am in the phone with Dell and they are replacing my phone at no charge, no questions asked. Even asked me if I knew what to expect about the 2.2 update. No complaints about customer service from me.
—–
So i phone dell, i spoke with Laura in the tech support center. She is shipping me a new phone! She told me all it will cost me is a smile! This has completely changed my opinion of dell, and sure they may be kinda ****ting the bed with the 2.2 roll out, but with customer service like this, i have no issues waiting for my update!!!
2-3 business days to arrive, prepaid label back to them, and you can bet your ass im going to buy me an otterbox now…
Good luck to anyone else!

Thank you! Just phoned Dell Mobility (UK 0844 444 3244) and the guy I spoke to (In US) said as the Streak is new they don’t have a service in place for us to order repairs so they will do it for free even if accidental!! They do have the facility in place for fixing the phones, but we cannot pay them as yet when it’s our fault.
Love you Dell and yes, I am getting a screen protector and carry case too!
Since putting a sticky-tape on the screen to avoid cut fingers, I have realised that capacitive screens are much better than resistive when it comes to screen protectors. I could still use the phone with no problems even through the sticky tape!
Hopefully everything goes according to plan and I was able to encourage someone to check with Dell too – and good luck.
Best wishes!!
PS Thank you Dell!

As you can see there are quite a few different people that had their devices exchanged without incident for cracked screens, and this is only from one forum post. Similar situations can be found on other forums including Streaksmart.com.
Now normally I would not take issue with Dell not taking back the device since it is damaged. However the lack of consistency in handling these similar situations is what erks me.
I called out Lionel Menchaca over on @dellcares on twitter about these inconsistencies:
@dellcares I get the no AD cov. thing i worked retail for years however how do you xplain numerous ppl getting xchanges 4 cracked screens?
@dellcares specifically several ppl on @xda noted here http://ht.ly/3Kark and on streaksmart….
And was given this “explanation”:
@dzerveviktory Hi Brett, Sorry for any disappointment, Each exchange is decided on a case by case basis through the mobility queue. Thx, LM
So what it boils down to is that Dell arbitrarily decides whose devices will be replaced. Each and every one of the forum posts that I have listed above had the EXACT same situation as me. Their devices had a small drop and the screen shattered. Their devices get replaced no questions asked but my claim is denied.
Can someone explain the logic in this?

sorry i got confused and misread the thread, not sure if they are going to listen to you as you said you dropped it, for future references just say that you took it out of your pocket and the screen was shattered
As i said in my thread, i called Dell mobility and asked them why some users got their streaks replaced and i didn't. I was told that they just recently got an out-of-warranty repair option, and that they had a policy before to replace streaks even though they wasn't covered by warranty. Now they have a new policy; not to replace anything not covered by warranty. I got called back by the out-of-warranty repair center (or something), and they told me it would cost me 309 GBP to replace the screen.
Sucks for you OP, and it sucks for me. Dell doesn't need to care anymore now that they have an alternative, and i don't think they do.
US Service Tag
Hello Everyone. I am in this same boat in that my very first Streak took a small drop and only shattered the glass...Dell has replaced other streaks that users admit to dell that they dropped. I call every two week and since Oct, they have not agreed to replace. I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing the Service Tag # of the Streak that they got a replacment for so I can pinpoint to DellCares that their replacment policy is completely arbitrary.
I need to make sure that they replaced your Streak, after you told them that you indeed dropped it.
Just so everyone knows, I am not looking for a hand out as I do admit that I dropped my phone and the glass broke. I want to pay them to repair it....Well, they wont repair and wont replace. I just want to do what is fair and pay Dell to replace the glass on my phone. Since they dont offer this solution, I asked if I can give them $100.00, the broken Streak for a new or refurb Streak just so I can have a phone that I can use...They say no...
THanks to anyone willing to share the Service Tag # with me so I to can either pay for a replacement or on Dell's good faith, have them give me a new or referb at no cost.
Thanks so much for reading and helping me with my rant and problem.
Sincerely,
CP

Send it back to LG for repairs $100-160 cost
I'd look for a local cell phone place that does repairs, yes the nexus 4 has the glass that wraps the edges but you can always show them this and if they say yes they can repair it then I'd let them repair it..they should warranty their work and you won't have to be without a phone ..id do it that way pending on the price compared to sending the phone in for warranty work.

Hey what exactly was wrong with your screen. Mine works fine, but just has a cracked appearance. This means that they will only have to replace the glass aka digitizer but not the LCD underneath. There for my repair should be cheaper than most people. What did you have to get replaced? I'm curious if my repair cost would be less than yours. Thanks.

Yes, you are right... Nexus 4 is the best looking smartphone I have ever come across so far... And Truth is I am never used to cases or covers for phones, and If at all I have to cover with a protection case, it is waste of the killer beauty again..That is why I await Larry's promises to be true on xPhone/Next Nexus(For Google I/O'13), as he said “In today’s multi screen world, the opportunities are endless… battery life is a huge issue… when you drop your phone it shouldn’t go splat,”... My decision was utter wrong on Nexus 4, I'm a hardcore nexus fan... After I get it fixed, I buy a cover and give to my brother....
UK Repairs service
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to say I've cracked my phone as well (woe!), less cracked-rather than smashed in multiple places. Was just minding my own business playing a bit of Ruzzle whilst pondering the questions of life on the toilet...
Anyway, called up LG support (make sure to find their cheaper phone number from saynoto0870 website); and was told they'd send me an envelope with details on the repair.
If you go on the website to schedule a repair, it'll tell you they carry out fixed price repairs at £130. This should leave the phone under warranty.
When I received the envelope, it was a letter from a company called Regenersis; who appear to be the repairs company responsible for a lot of outsourced repairs internationally. They also appear to be the source of some internet ranting due to bad customer service (seems to be a general trend with these third party repairs companies).
Anyway, sent phone off yesterday so will try to report anything back with regards to prices, results etc.
BTW this is for UK only, although I suspect LG will do something similarly for most other countries with regards to repairs.
I think they should have made the back out of flexiglass.

So just called up Regenersis on Friday morning and they gave me a quote of 122GBP for full repair, service and postage back to me. 8 pounds cheaper than the fixed price on the LG page. So paid via direct debit over the phone and have been told it should be sent off in a few days as both the phone and parts are ready to be put together. I would expect to receive it sometime mid-next week. Will post back on repair results. (If the quality is good, it would have been about the same price as buying my own screen from Ebay. It would probably take aprox. the same amount of time due to long postage times; though the main advantage being that I keep my warrantee).

It would probably take aprox. the same amount of time due to long postage times; though the main advantage being that I keep my warrantee).

Hey guys,
Final update on the phone repair situation. I received my phone this morning from Regenersis after a total time since send off of aprox. 2 weeks since registration on the LG repairs website. (What more of a present could I ask for on my Bday!).
Anyway, in summary; the repair itself after paying took only 1-2 days.
To my surprise the experience overall with these guys were reasonably pleasant despite the bad reviews on the net. Although I suspect that's the standard scenario where someone will only complain when something goes wrong.
Either way, the repair cost less than the quoted guaranteed LG repair price on their website of 130GBP.
Tips for anyone planning on sending their broken Nexus 4 to these guys:
Register through LG repairs service first. Book your slot online, then give the LG guys a call next day to confirm it's gone through so that they can get Regenersis to send through a repair letter with details.
Once the phone is sent off to Regenersis (I'd suggest Royal Mail tracked as this'll allow you to know exactly when it's arrived in Glasgow); give them a call within about 2/3 days to ask about an online quote or otherwise when it'll be examined by their engineers. (I had to wait until next before calling back to ask about the price and paying through the phone via direct debit).
After that I'd suggest giving them about 3/4 working days to repair if they have all the parts ready etc, before calling back to check on progress.
With any luck you'll get your phone back within about 2 weeks.
I've attached a picture of the repaired phone; it seems good as new and there are no scratch marks or signs that the phone has been tampered in any way. (Sorry for the bad photo!).
Edit: Had a play with the phone, a horizontal line across the upper quarter of the screen doesn't actually respond to touch; only has display. Sooo....called up LG again this morning to have them tell me they'll send me another package to send back again to Regenersis... Only one piece of advice, don't for frack's sake break your Nexus 4. Seriously!
Turns out after the repair, the phone was placed back under warrantee status allowing me to raise the issue up with Google themselves. So after a quick call to the US phone line (cheaper with the say no to 0870 redirect phone line), they agreed to send me a replacement. I received it within 3 days from the call and haven't needed to be absent of a phone for over a week if sent to repair again. Now to simply send the broken faulty phone back to google via their supplied prepaid packaging.
Happy repairs guys,
Signing out.

Same thing happened to me today, very minor drop, and complete crack, touch screen is unresponsive... Local LG repair centre does not have it in stock, so I am waiting for an update from him.... It is seriously terrible quality of the phone, I had dropped so many phones hundreds of times, never, nothing happened.. This is really terrible....

Newsflash! LG is not in the glass production business. They receive their Gorilla Glass from Corning, just like most of the other manufacturers out there. If the glass broke from you dropping it, it has ZERO to do with LG's build quality.

Was your phone repaired or replaced? Was the internal memory wiped?
I have a cracked unresponsive screen and will be making an insurance claim (so slightly different process). Unfortunately I hadn't enabled USB debugging so I'm struggling to get the files off the device before I send it off.
I'll be insisting on a repair rather than a replacement and I don't want my device being factory reset.

Hey Carpetboy,
Mine was simply repaired, but all my files had been backed up to dropbox and gmail so wasn't too bad. My gf had a few things fixed through insurance and they've just replaced it each time because they're not necessarily specialised to deal with repairs; especially if it's a very new phone it seems. Though if it's just a screen repair it might not be too bad.
Good luck dude! :good:

Cheers for the info. I managed to get all the critical files off it last night through the toolkit so I'm not as worried if they just replace it now.
LG Repaired Cracked Screen for $153
Hello everyone,
I recently had my phone repaired by LG. They replace the screen for $153. The repair facility is located in Ft Worth Tx, and the payment center is located in Alabama. It cost me $20 to send it 2nd day air via UPS. Also, I bought another nexus 4, and now am returning it back to google less then 15% restocking fee. Basically, i rented a nexus 4 16gb for $50 over a 2 week period.
Same!

I went to my provider here in Canada as well and it was because my phone over heated and the front glass cracked and my provider told me it would cost about $250 and as I read these comments it makes me question why is it $250 in Canada but only $140-$160 in other countries? its not fair ( well in my opinion it should be the same price just in CAD ) I too need this number! it just makes no sense ! I live in AB so tax shouldnt be the problem neither.
