If my phone broke while rooted can it still be repaired? - Wildfire General

If my phone did break while rooted, like screen broke or stopped working.
Could i still send it off and get it repaired even though it is still rooted or would they just ship it back to me unrepaired???

Show it to the Service Center Guys , the most prior thing they will notice is the Main Issue , the Screen and perhaps not looks further as of which version you have or you have SU or not
If you mention your major Issue is the hardware then I Doubt then will go on fiddling with the Software , Not Sure as These guys are unpredictable but still , IMO They won't bother to look further

Thats good, because i dont want my phone to break and i cant get it repaired because i have rooted it.

a friend of mine got he`s hero replaced twise by htc, one time it got broke then flashed a recovery, and second time the screen stop working and it was rooted.

^^ Same with me earlier *almost*

Touch screen doesn't work at all!

Really annoyed as i sold this phone to a freind and now the touch screen doesnt work for him at all, i hard reseted to see what this would do! and nothing worked and couldn't get past the "tap screen to start device" screen as the device wont recognize a touch! wat da hell! really annoying any ideas ?
Need help urgerntly!!
I have a Touch Dual with the same issue. I actually have been looking for a take apart guide for this phone to check the connections.
I sent mine back for service, and I didn't get charged for it. Since it wasn't my fault, thus under garantee ;D
touchscreen
hi, ive got the same problem, was working fine for 4 months and then slowly stopped working - now its completely not working. cant send it back cos its not under warranty - cid unlocked/sim unlocked. please help? thanks!
Evidently a Hardware problem, I shall look into wether it is still in warrenty if not i dont particularly mind paying to get it repaired (within reason, I.E not an stupid price.) I get the phone back friday from my friend hopefully, and will look into it a bit more then.
I'm not really on these forums anymore as I bought an i-phone I'll pop back now and then to see how you guys are getting on and how this thread develops.
Hopefully will have some news about this for you soon guys!!
I wish sending this phone in was an option for me. I'm in the states and this is a Euro-Nike. I'm sure it's out of warranty by now anyway and it's not worth it to me to send it it.

Would this X1a be covered under warranty?

Hi All,
I've had a bad "tech" day today Walked into work, put my laptop down and dropped my X1a . I'm 6'4" so its a pretty long way to drop even if its on to carpet. Sure enough, turned my phone on and the LCD wont turn on anymore although I hear the expected sounds etc
It is under warranty since it was bought at a Sony Style store out here in Massachusettes but the issue is that I had a custom ROM on it and without the screen turning on, I wont be able to replace it with the stock SPL, Radio, FW etc etc..
So my question is, do I even bother sending this thing in or do I spend the coming weekend disassembling this thing in the vague hope that I can fix it.
Anyone got some wisdom to offer on this?
Thanks much!
well u dont need the screen to be on to flash it , and hardspl i dont think they will check it for a physical damage fix
dl a stock rom and flash it with sd methood
Thanks... I guess I'll have to call in and see what the repair process is like.. Any idea on the average round trip time from me sending it in to getting it back repaired?
It took me 3 weeks to get mine back
Lol
I can relate to that, I'm 6/4 myself and havnt had one phone I havnt yet dropped, except my Xperia, but my girlfriend fixed that one when taking it off me while I was getting my new born nephew out of the car, so I hadnt o choice but to let the phone hit the floor when she dropped it. Couple of nasty scratches on the front casing and a really annoying one on the screen but I will have to live with it, I can neither take it out on her or the fact i had the littlun in my arms.
Anyway, to flash the SPL is probably the most difficult, but still simple, it just needs to be in USB mode (VOL-+POWER) from off and do the rest from PC. As for radio/ROM, use the SD method, requires only 1 button press which is the power button I think to confirm and then you're good to go.
It may end up stuck at connection setup or something, but they wont care, and if they do you just say you had sensitive data on there and had to hard reset before service.
As for timing I don't know, I'm yet to take mine in over the keyboard problem because I can't do without the phone a the moment.
I had same problem with screen, and they didnt take it under warranty because dropped me and flat cable gone. Took it to SE service, 40$ and two days work...
Does the service center check the SPL? I sent it twice w/0 changing to stock spl with no problems.
send it... dont tell them you dropped it unless you can tell that it was dropped. you got nothing to lose except a bill telling you what it would cost to fix it.
Mate, there is an other help to your case.
There is program for PC called "Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.1".
Download a trial (works for 30 days I think) and you will be able
to see what would be on the phone screen on your computer.
I used that to backup all my mails when my screen was broken.
You just have to have that program, connect your phone via USB
and you will be able to see the screen on your computer.
If you don't really get me, or you have further questions -just ask!
probably u could fake them by telling them it didnt work since this morning... blah blah blah

It rarely pays to lie to the person taking your phone apart; they can almost always tell you're lying. Not telling, however; that's not the same as lying ;D

Touch hd major problem with the screen

OK, here what's the deal: a few days ago I cracked the screen, so I bought a new one and replaced it. BUT, now the phone does not recognize it and the screen doesn't turn on at all. The phone boots and it's working fine, I can recieve calls normaly, but the screen is dead. ALSO, the volume keys stoped functioning...
Any ideas please? I'm getting kinda desperate here...
Tnx
You probably messed up somwhere in your wiring. Open it back up and make sure everything is intact. Check out some guides online to make sure everything is in the proper place.
Allready done that, everything is in place...I do have a cooked ROM thought I can't remember which since my screen is not working, obiveously...Could it be tha I nedd to switch back an original ROM for it to be able to recognize the new hardware??? And is there an app that would allow me to monitor phones activity over PC???
No, A cooked rom wont affect a screen replacement in anyway.
I repaired mine while KWBR's Topix 6.5 was on the handset, infact Ive never had this handset on a stock rom, so it wont make a difference or help you.
Did you buy your Screen and Digitizer factory pre-assembled, the small price difference compared to buying the part standalone is worth every cent in preventing these sorts of after repair problems.

G2 sending back to Tmo but need Help broke screeen and its rooted so i can see anythi

As it says I broke my G2 stepped on so the screen lights up but all black I can't see anything its fully rooted and nothing erased. Just got my replacement bout to send broke 1 back but should i worry cause it s-off fully rooted oh and i did tell the i woke up and my screen wouldn't work so get new phone. Should i worry or is there anything i can do before sending PLEASE HELP......
Are you replacing through Asurion or through a warranty exchange? If its an insurance replacement there's nothing to worry about.
If you're doing in through the warranty, they're going to be able to figure out that it has physical damage if you stepped on it and broke the screen.
You'll probably get hit with the out of warranty fee.

Assuming that you have it rooted, you already have USB debugging on, google for a program called Android Screencast. You can use to it control your phone with your mouse and keyboard on your pc. The screen will be displayed on that program and you can click on the display on that and control it. So you can unroot with that. If you have a custom rom, you can then restore your old stock rom.
When you are doing all of this, you have to remember that while its doing restore, you cant see the screen doing the restore on the program as your phone isnt fully booted in android. But just leave it and keep an eye on it, it will vibrate when the phone reboots after restore.
How do I know this? I stepped on my desire z and had it rooted with CM7! I managed to unroot, get S-on, and restore my old rom!
Final thing I will tell you, is that if you after restoring your old rom, you decide to format it back to factory settings, usb debugging will be put back to off so the android screencast wont work and you cant actually tell if it has succeeded. But if you do a factory reset, let the phone boot up and put your volume up and down, you should be able to hear the beeps, which means android has booted perfectly fine.
Oh and even thought i stepped on mine, HTC themselves couldnt tell i stepped on it and they fixed mine for free in warranty!
Good luck mate
don't sweat it. if you can't see anything, neither can they. all you really have to worry about is if the water mark thing is red or not. i've sent mines with the same problem, screen won't show anything but turns on, rooted and s-off. i didn't have a problem.
don't tell them you rooted it though. happy days!!!

Or do that
Thinking about it, since it isnt a repair, and its only t mobile not htc themselves you are dealing with, you dont have to worry. Tmob probably just see if its broken as you say and then toss it in a pile to send to HTC. My situation was different because it was a repair and HTC will defo look at it.
I wouldnt take any chances though...

problem with optimus 7 device. would appreciate the help

Hey,
So here`s my problem.
2 days ago my phone just switched off, no warning, no nothing, and won`t switch on ever since.
I already looked around for people that may have the same problem, but every thread talks about the device that won`t go pass the logo screen. It is not my case. My phone doesen`t even show the logo screen, nothing. You can press the power button for as long as you want, it just won`t start. At occasions, it starts up by itself, only for a minute or two and then turns off again.
At first i thought it may be a software problem, so I`ve cold started it and reset it but it didn`t make any difference.
After, I`ve thought... maybe a battery issue, so I`ve talked with a pal that has the same device, switched batteries. Apparently his phone started with my battery just fine, but mine didn`t work with his either.
Does anyone have a clue about what`s happening?.. If yes, please do share. As much as I like having a phone with a mind of it`s own.. it`s just not dependable XD
Thanks
Probably just broken / defective - if under warranty go and ask for repair or replacement (money back probably). If not under warranty sell as broken or throw to the bin - not to worth repair in my opinion.
I spend the same thing to my myself, LG stinks.

Thanks for answering.
Yes, it was a problem with the motherboard.. got it fixed on warranty. Now I barely use the phone, of fear that it will break againXD. Looking forward to selling it while it`s still functional.

I've got mine just back from repair (second time). It use to randomly reboot, now I hope it got repaired ("faulty electronic components have been replaced" - but I don't know what exactly). What I realize is MAC address change. But as they changed firmware from 1.1.8.10 to 1.0.16.10, I wonder if that's why it has new MAC? Does new MAC address means that some component was replaced ? IMEI does not change.
