I am having trouble getting my phone to boot up.
It hangs at the boot up screen. I am able to flash roms and radios from the bootloader screen, but nothing seems to work. I was using chucky's droid rom, to run android. I had problems from time to time with it freezing up on me.
after some research, it looked like I had a battery pin loose, or not lined up correctly.
so I flashed nrg's lite wm rom, then back to chucky's droid rom, nothing it booting up. I tried flashing different radios as well. all the flashes go thru, but nothing boots.
this last time, I tried to boot up, it went into one boot loop, then froze again.
I purchased this phone off of craigs list, do I dont know if I can somehow get a stock rom on it and try to get another phone.
what do you guys think? ATM i am only able to flash thru sd card.
EDIT. Something else I forgot to mention, when I plug my charger into keep the battery juiced, I have to pull the battery to try to power it back on, It even freezes when I try to charge it.
Is this a hardware issue maybe? How can I get any assistance from htc, or tmobile if I didnt buy directly from them.
My main phone is a vibrant, so I am not without a phone, but I would like to either go back to stock, and sell this phone cheap, or get another phone, I dont want to be out of 200 dollars, but it looks like I am.

I have had two different HD2s and both of them freeze up or are slow to respond when charging. Personally, I think it has to do with electrical fields interfering with the capacitive screen, but there may be a more deep-seated issue at work here.
If I were you, I would try this before giving up:
Completely replace the SD card. Class 6 is best, but anything above Class 2.
Flash a stock ROM via microSD to over-write the SPL.
Task 29 to clear out any old bits floating around.
Flash the "Lite" version of any ROM (6.5.1, not 6.5.5).
Skip the initial customization and hard-reset.
Complete customization and soft-reset.
Since it appears that your phone was working okay before, you probably got a bad flash that is sticking around.

Hello all,
I have recently upgraded from my g1 to an HD2. HD2 is a great phone but still miss android . Anyways, today I wanted to get my g1 to work without a sim or data plan and was about to start working on it when my g1 screen dimmed to just the blacklight with a black screen. I turned it off and tried turning it back on but it just comes up with the backlight on a black screen. It does not even get to the G1 screen. I cannot get to recovery mode or any other mode for that matter. I have searched around but not found any real solution to this problem (if there is one). I am thinking my phone is bricked but have heard possibilities using ADB. I have never used ADB before and if anyone knows if this is a possible fix to my problem that would be great. It would be nice to know if it actually could fix my problem before looking into it and learning it all while finding out it has no chance of fixing my problem. I have tried using my sim card and a different sd card so those are not causing the problems.
So the background of what I am running on my g1. Right before I got my HD2 I was using Cyanogen version 4.2.14.1 with and ext 3. I had no problems with it until now. I got my HD2 a week ago and my g1 has been on about twice in that time without a sim card just for comparing purposes to the HD2. Then just today (about 2-3 days since I last turned it on) the screen just went black and I had my problems. I cannot return my phone because it has been over a year and I dont have insurance on the phone so these are not possibilities for me unfortunately. I also don't really want to get parts from other g1's and take apart and put my g1 back together. I am just looking for something with ADB or any other possible solution to the problem (if one exists).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I had this happen to me before. Apparently, it was a hardware GPU problem that would cause a boot loop because it couldn't draw anything on the screen. This happened on SuperD, AOSP, Cyanogen, and stock Donut.
If your problem is the same, you should be able to get into recovery, regardless of your ability to see what you're doing. Easy way of telling is to hit Camera+End on boot. If it doesn't vibrate, you're able to flash still. You may be able to get the screen back temporarily by either pulling the battery or letting the battery die and recharging.
Anyways, I ended up flashing the DREAIMG.nbh, and trying to upgrade back to 1.6 to remove traces of hacking. (Be careful if you have DangerSPL, you want to restore the default before flashing DREAIMG.nbh) I eventually got the screen working on 1.6, but it died again, so I sent it in to T-Mobile and got a replacement. I'm now using AOSP with no problems.
One small note, however, I did start having my problems using Cyanogen's mod. May want to bring it up with him?
Sorry if this sounds scatterbrained, it's a bit late and I should be asleep right now.
e:Just realized you said the warranty was void. You may be able to get something out of what I did, though? Good luck, in any case.
Thanks very much for the help even though it was really late. I did understand pretty much everything you said and I tried the camera plus power button and it didn't vibrate so it should mean I probably can flash things still. I have drained the battery and am charging it back up to see if that helped.
I have a friend who knows ADB so I am going to have him look at it to see if we can't get it working through there. Also the G1 screen has been popping up but then fading right when its about to change to the boot animation. So we will see how things go and I'll try a couple different things and report back if anything seems to work or open up more possibilities.
Thanks again for your information.
Ok, so my friend and I were going to flash a rom through fastboot. It was responding and such so we knew we were able to get it in there.
Anyone know what the command to flash a rom in fastboot is and if there are specific instructions to follow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First of all we are not trying to unroot the phone just flash another rom
Secondly we already tried your "fantastic" method of using google before coming to the forums
Ok I think I just bricked my G1
I was following the steps on theunlockr.com and was following the steps to the T like I always do.
The problem incurred after flashing the spl. I flashed the correct radio then ir rebooted and went back into recovery mode. Then I flashed the spl all seemed well home+back and never rebooted. It stayed on a black screen for over 30 mins. So I took out the battery and waited a few mins and put battery back in and same thing. Just a black screen nothing I can do. I have tried holding home+power and camera+power and back+power nothing. I am stuck have looked it up and this is the best forum I have found to post in.
Any input would be great.
thanks

So I went out and got a TMOUS HD2. Fantastic. Love it more than the Iphone for the typical reasons. So I'm at the point where its time to really make it mine, custom rom, a few tweaks, a few preferred apps, etc...
Here's what goes down.
1. I try to install HSPL. I fail, not yet knowing there is a difference between the TMOUS and typical flavor machine. Luckily I don't brick, learn my lesson, find the right HSPL.
2. Install a TMOUS friendly HSPL. Cotulla shows in the boot loader and all that jazz. Radio is of the 2.08 flavor which should be compatible with sutom roms, so with that 100% successful I should be good to go.
3. Huh. Rom page says I should TASK29 before I install. Ok. TASK29 seems like a cleanout and reformat of the room, so that makes sense, though I only seem to half understand it. What's the least hassle way to handle that? Well, since I don't want to change my radio it looks like the "ShaDrac repack" is the way to go. I follow the download link, watch the youtube video, and set to do the deed.
4. This is where I should be saying "and then I went into the bootloader and installed the TMOUS friendly custom rom." I didn't get this far. TASK29 went to 100% and rebooted the phone, only it hung on the T-Mobile splash screen (that part that says "stick together!" in obnoxious pink). I figure it just needs a good old fashioned reset like in the instructions. I pull the battery and put it back in, getting the same result. I'm a bit worried, but I have my rom ready on an SD card, toss that in and proceed to try to go to the boot loader (which should always come up since HSPL is installed, right?) Well, that time when I tried to boot up I got nothing, not even the ill fated splash screen. This thing looks bricked, doesn't respond AT ALL, even after I let it sit for 24 hours to let the internal battery die and hope it'll go to at least the bootloader. Tried hard reset, tried linking it up to the computer (WMDC says there is no device there), tried volume down+power. Nothing it just sits there like a rock.
I went over my steps carefully, read numerous posts, and as far as I can see I did nothing wrong. (I completely avoided anything involving the radio and the dreaded number "51") Please correct me if I'm effed up somewhere. I've flashed devices before and never bricked, even though this was my first HD2 attempt, so I'm not completely unknowing in the subject.
If anyone has a solution I'd love to hear it. If anyone has any idea WTF happened, I'd love to hear that as well, even if it means I just made a $300 mistake. At this point I am officially stumped like a chump.

If I'm following you then what you need to do is put the phone in bootloader manually. Pull the battery and hold down the "down volumn" button. This should bring up the tri-colored screen(bootloader). Connect your USB cable wait for it to show "USB" then Flash away...I hope this helps
Im sorry...Just read your whole post and it seems you've already done what I suggested..
well if the battery is dead, it isnt going to turn on. now that the battery has depleted completely, let the phone charge again. once it does try to go into bootloader and flash ROM from sdcard or via USB.
One more thing...
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention before.
I've set the thing charging for about 3 hours and still no response. Furthermore, when I have the charge cable in I don't get the LED that lights up during a charge does not turn on. It just sits there unresponsive.
check your battery pins. plus you haven't said what rom was on your sd card.
oh and in step four, after task 29, it's supposed to hang at the boot screen, there's no rom on the phone, task 29 just erased it.
you should have held vol down as soon as it hit 100% and gone into boot loader. if you mis time it, pop the battery, hold vol down and tap power to manually enter boot loader then connect to usb and flash your rom.
The rom I was trying to flash to was the latest OZrom for the 1024. Seems like the most stable cooked rom that I've been able to find for the TMOUS HD2.
Mostly I just want a WM 6.5.5 rom with CHT and the full functionality of the HD2. WM 6.5 stock just isn't quite finger friendly enough for me (though HTC Sense helps a LOT) and I want to have some more of the customization that CHT offers.
Holy crab in a burning biodegradable bag on my doorstep.
It was the battery pins not lining up properly. Why is it always the dumbest most simple things that defeat me when I'm handling something high tech?
did you get it flashed okay? I'm gonna attempt my first flash tomorrow for my hd2 and I was gonna do the task 29 also, pretty much with the same steps you listed. When I saw your post it worried me for a sec
SUCCESS!!!
I have successfully flashed OZrom onto my HD2 and have saved myself from having to spend another $300 in shame.
Had to flash from SD card since for some reason WMDC 6.1 was not detecting the HD2 on bootload screen, but it still worked.
Hopefully that'll take some of the fear out of this process.
Do your research right and things go (almost) according to plan.
dont worry
Do not worry man same **** happen to me.... I had gunk on the batt pins felt like an idiot lol
If you have any other issues with the phone not charging check out my post on the pins for the battery.

There has been an issue with the contacts being bent and then they don't contact the battery and wouldn't charge it.
Well, I'd like to thank you all for your help with my issue. My HD2 seems to be rocking nicely. Battery life seems to be shortened a bit, but I've also probably been tooling around with it too much, else it might just be I chose a power hungry rom. I'll also keep my eye on that batter contact issue.
Once again. Thank you.

Do this test with different radios.
Flash a radio and let it charge all the way and write the time you unplug it and let it die by it self and then write the time.
Flash another radio and do the same thing.
While doing these test try to use the phone with the same settings as the previous tests and close to the same usage.
This way you can find the best radio for the area you live in which helps battery life overall.

no it won't recognize it.it doesn't need to.
when the phone is in boot loader connect usb and watch the phone screen for the word serial to change to usb. when it says usb you can flash. wmdc will never see a phone in boot loader.
when instructions say "connect to active sync " they don't mean connect to the active sync/wmdc software they just mean connect to usb. its an added confusion that there is no need for.
Hi, I'm having a big problem with my device, I've bought the European version and didn't touch the ROM or radio for a cool 3 months, but I often update to the latest Cookie HT, and lots of different apps. Then it got a weird behavior that if I use the device and it got a little hot it would restart by itself and after the restart got stuck on the white logo screen. It would happen often when plugged and Activesynced to my computer.
I lived with this situation for the past month but now I had enough, I've updated the radio to the latest I could find, and the ROM to Energy with Cookie HT.
Now it's worse, I can't get it to stable on the Home screen, I can see it but can't play with anything, stuck...
And BTW when it get stuck the bottom of the phone is quite hot, even if I left it for quite some time.
Edit : The Sense UI isn't loading and it actually a good bug, cause the device is running smoothly even on ActiveSync. It feels like the CHT is to blame, at least the latest one to date.
Edit 2 : Sorry, I was wrong, now it got stuck during SPB backup restoring connected to ActiveSync.
Edit 3, Sorry 2 : I've let it cool, turned it on and somehow the CHT is back and working wonderfully, this is weirder then I thought.
Edit 4 : I've managed to run Android 2.1 Desire and it was running good until it got a little warm and then froze. I'm beginning to suspect this is a hardware issue.
I realy need help feaguring this one out.
I've replaced a couple of Radio versions and this device keep jamming up, it's now unusable. I need to get it relaxed and cold before I try to turn it on again.
Can it be that the ROM is responsible ? should I go back to the stock with no mod at all (it would KILL me though).
I'm frastrated and thinking of selling the phone if anyone would buy this piece of crap.
i am in the same boat mate.
mine is going back to htc tomorrow.
In the end i removed everything and took the rom/radio back to stock still the 'heat' issue exists.
It has been like this on test for nearly two weeks if i try to run the youtube app the phone switches off anything more intense and it hard resets itself.
I have learnt that if you leave it too cool down battery out etc it will switch back on and if you do nothing but make phone calls it will be ok?
Having read alot it appears this issue happens if the device goes over a certain temp. For example folks have been moaning about the phone switching off if used in a car whilst charging running sat nav.
I advise you to contact htc as i have done.
you may have already done this, but did you do a task 29 before flashing the rom (task 29 wipes the phone and gives you a clean base to start from). Also delete the application data on your mem card(important). If your phone wont boot you can enter the bootloader by removing batt and holding vol down as soon as you you put the batt back in,This will put you onto bootloader screen ( if you have hspl installed?) from here you can do task 29 and reflash your chosen rom. Oh and make sure you have required radio for the rom you choose. hope this is of some help thought id try
Just wanted to update that HTC took an effort and accepted my unwarranted device for fixing. They replaced the board and sent it back on their expense. The device now is working flawlessly !
Thanks to HTC for a GREAT customer service and support !!!
So I installed this rom > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797546 this morning and everything was working fine. Texted, talked, got voicemail, email worked, everything. No problems. Restored my messages/contacts/etc. after I did the flash as well. All this was about 7am.
At 9am, I got a random pop up while trying to read a text and I can't remember exactly what it said, but was something to the effect of "blah blah blah could'nt be opened and will now be closed". But when I clicked ok, it was flicker once really fast and still be there. So I pressed the windows key and went to open task manager and another pop up appeared and said the same about task manager. So I went to restart it (pressing and holding the end key and selecting appropriate action) and it just went black. Went to turn it back on and nothing. I plug it into a charger or computer and nothing, at all. No lights, nothing. Removed battery, nothing. Only hint of fate I got was when i removed the memory card, and sim card, and tried again, it continuously vibrated, but still nothing on the screen or any lights, just vibration. Is this a brick? I can't even get into the bootloader, so can't reflash another rom.... Help?
It's hard to try and guess what the problem that you are encountering is. My 1st question would be if which version of the HD2 do you own? Is it the Tmobile version or the international version. There are roms that are specific to each device and it's crucial to know which one you are installing. Based on your signature, it seems like you may be on a CDMA network whereas Tmobile is GSM. But that doesn't quite explain why you were able to text and call for sometime before the crash. I suggest you retrace your steps following the flash guide found here--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614 Specially if this is your first flash. Try to provide some more information, (HSPL used, rom you were running before, etc...) So that we can help you better.
Best of luck.
Using tmobile hd2, thats why I posted in the tmo section.
Disregard my siggy, no longer even own that phone. This is probably my 10th+ flash on this phone alone, and I didn't do anything differently when I flashed this time around. I don't even look for roms in the non-tmo forum. Been on tmobile for about 5 months now using this phone and only this phone. All the roms I have used in the passed were perfectly fine. Last rom I was using before the one that messed up my phone was AthineOS. Also ran fine, just didn't like the battery drainage and the mms pics being super small when I recieved them. Plus didn't like the interface too much.
I think what he meant was if your phone was bought from T-Mobile USA or overseas.
It's not the radio, so the term bricked doesn't really apply. It sounds to me like it just kicked the bucket. The good news is if you can't get into bootloader mode tmo/htc will never know you installed hspl. Which means you can call T-Mobile and get it replaced under your insurance. Just make sure you can't get into bootloader to avoid the $100 software change fine.
i cant get the phone to boot at all and it wont reinstall any roms as it always freezes at 0% is there anyway possible to restore this phone?

get start to give us some more information sir, witch rom/radio you gave install?
I have a very similar problem with my HD2. I do not know which radio is installed but it used to be and still is whatever came from the factory when I bought it from the T-Mobile USA. I used the NAND flash because i had issues with it. So let me first explain how i got here. The phone was good for a about a 6 month period of time and then the issues started. The issues were exactly the same with its stock WinMo as they are with Android so I really thin that it is the phone itself. The only question i have is, is there hope? Ok so it was bad and it would not boot or anything so I decided to put it in a ZipLock bag and put it in freezer. After taking it out and making sure that ZipLock get the condensation as opposed the device itself I started the NAND flash. I used HSPL3 and did that first (It used to be SPL-2.10.0000). Then I used the MAGLDR 1.11 and that worked too. then I used the DAF.exe NAND flash that was ported over from HTC Desire. So then I got stuck right after Rebooting message. So ALL was well but it would not reboot. I let it sit and then after no change in hours I pulled the battery. After that the phone would not start and Iput it back into freezer. After it got cold i started it just fineand Android was awesome. Up until the point where i went browsing through stuff on Android. Also note that I did go through "First time use" setup with no issues.Anyways, has anybody seen this behaviour on this phone and is there help? Thank you in advance.
Also to add. Every time the phone will not boot I can know ahead of time because it will have vibrations going off. So basically if I get vibrations (About eitgh of them in sequence) the phone will not start up. Yes, it was like this under WinMo as well.
