hey guys. at&t user here. instead of waiting around for the official OTA update to 2.2 that we've been waiting to see come down the pipes for months with nothing to show for it, i decided to take matters into my own hands. I called up dell and told them my streak was stuck at the boot screen. The nice tech support lady told me run the factory recovery, (i didn't, just keep playing hot pursuit) and i told her there was no change. she immediately set me up for an exchange. So in 3 days (1 day processing, 2 day shipping UPS at no cost to me) i will receive a new streak and hopefully it will come pre-installed with the 2.2 update.
i will let you guys know if my plan works. and if not i'll get a new streak just the same.
and ya i could get 2.2 on there through flashing of 3 different roms but i really don't feel like going through that trouble when they can mail me one with it pre-installed.
cheers
couldnt just do the 2.2 update yourself?
Yeah no ****. Takes all of an hour to flash and reinstall apps. Brilliant

lol... Your not even sure it will be preloaded with 2.2. You'll just be back to square one with waisted time. Why even bother?? Also if it comes with the ATT 2.2, you know you will have all this extra bloatwear hogging up your memory you'll just end up tweakin your streak anyways at the end.

LOL the stock 2.2 is crap anyways. I had the stock 2.2 and the quadrant scores were horrible updated to the dj Steve 1.6 and its amazing now

You also may be faced with the issue of it not being "broken". And they might decide to bill you...
Another thing to consider is the fact that you originally ordered an AT&T locked model. They will likely just send another AT&T locked model which I can tell you will still have 1.6 as I just received mine today and it as laden with 1.6.
This tactic is full of assumptions and totally without any precedence that it will work.
Full of Fail.
first of all they send me anew one before i send back my old one. second i don't really feel like wasting time going through the headache of updating a phone's rom 3 times just to get a buggy unofficial version of the rom. i can root the official and get rid of bloatware in a matter of 1 minute. second i get a brand new phone no matter what. no scratches or dings.
i'm not 15 anymore. i have a life and i cant be bothered with doing all these little mods and tweaks and ****. i have a life outside of technology.
umad?
LOL I am not 15, I work 60 hours a week, and play soccer 2 twice a week.
I guess but ur standard I have a lot of time in my hand.
I got the phone 2 weeks ago and run a quadrant test, and wasn't satisfied with it performance. Took me exactly 20 mins to upgrade to did Steve's version. Phone has actually not crashed once yet and its running better than the official 2.2.
How long did the phone call to dell take?

So Mr. Troll-opoly, I see you're here to just hoard all the Troll-points. Jerk move, man. Post a closed-statement thread, you beg to be critiqued. You decide to insult us, all hipster status ~ calling us kids.
Sure, why not? But if you can't handle the heat of actually knowing how to use your technology and just want everything user-friendly (child-proofed) then just get an iPhone. Lame ass.

I flashed official 2.2 straight from att 1.6 using QDL. I didnt have to jump thru 3 roms. Your method is good if u just want a new streak I guess, but to get 2.2, seems too much a hassle for me.
Btw ppl who have ordered the unlocked with 2.2 since dec. havent even received theirs yet, id be surprised if they gave u one so soon.

We've all heard the rumor's, On Feburary 1'st 2011 we will be seeing a 2.2 Froyo update roll-out to our Dell Streak's. We've read the post's, we've visited android websites, and we've even talked to rep's from Dell and At&t and O2 and Best Buy's. And all have said that today will be the day. As we all sit here with our finger's crossed in hopes that those promises are true, Today is the day we find out if we were lied to or if today is the day we will all see the light shine on the Dell streak.
If your one of the first few to see that update please post it here along with your thoughts and feelings about it.

I have not seen any Official statement from dell or AT&T so its all he said she said rumors. I bet it will not show up. save your self the wait and use QDL you will not regret it.

I so wish people would quit blaming Dell for this hassle/wait/frustration....
It is QUITE obvious who the culprit is...since every other Streak in the world has official access to Froyo, sans the AT&T customers...
.... and NO, no update from at&t yet... rickin frackin mackin smackin #^$_$'ers
the unofficial 2.2 is really good. (streakdroid)
i told myself i was going to wait for at&t no matter what but after about the third or fourth lie/letdown i joined streakdroid. and i did it back when you had to go through the entire process of eu1.6>eu2.1>flash recovery blah blah>and so forth. now its pretty much a 2 step process.
just my sound opinion
Not surprising at all. Those waiting have the opportunity along time ago to take matters into their on hand and get 2.2. FORGET AT&T and all those empty promises. Unleash the power of your Streak and don't get your device held hostage...lol
Yeah I too held out for a while. Now I think back on the doughnut build 1.6 and realize how outdated and bland it was so I gave up and did myself a favor and QDL and I have never looked back. By the time the official 2.2 ATT is released you'll have no choice but to go to a custom Rom because that will be outdated. Streakdroid is the way to go. I'm practically running full Gingerbread now on my Streak and couldn't be happier, Oh wait 1.7.0 is on its way imagine that.

Ahh, your just like me. I just got my phone and I fear of rooting it. I had no problem with rooting HTC phones but I'm a little scared of rooting the streak.
Same here. I had no probs with flashing roms on my Fuze, Tilt and Tilt II... It just seems that there is way too much to do when it comes to flashing android devices.

The hardest part is getting the drivers set up on your computer. Everything else just falls into place. It is very rare to completely brick your Streak, most people just give up on it and return their Streak. And even if you think you have bricked your Streak, the QDL will fix that and at the same time put you on 2.2 Froyo.

QDL is so easy
I was waiting and waiting for this Official OTA Update. After all these ''Official release dates'' came and went, I decided to bite the bullet and use the QDL tool. It was so freakin easy. The video given is perfect and the steps are so easy. Screw AT&T......do the QDL.
FROYO on the streak is legit.
Russian soulja, didnt u buy the unlocked streak? If so u should already have the ota. Att locked devices are the ones that are still waiting.
Also, rooting a dell isn't any more difficult than rooting an htc

Yes i bought my dell streak directly from dell unlocked and it already came loaded with 2.2 froyo on it. but that's not why i want to root my phone. i want to root my phone for other reasons like to have the App2SD feature and also to be able to flash different rom's and themes on it. but like i said i fear the root part with the dell streak all other android devices that ran on HTC phones i never had a problem with. can you guys link me to the easiest tutorial on how to root it with maybe a video guide if avaliable. for some reason i always found it easier to follow a video rather then read something off a page lol. call me crazy but that's the way i am don't ask. by reading the posts on here i've noticed people who go to Theunlockr.com always find themselfs in a boot loop so i dont wanna trust that site with my phone even tho i always turned to that site as far as rooting goes for HTC brand phones that ran android.

What version of 2.2 are you running? Rooting stock Froyo is simple, install the drivers from here and download version 1.5.5 of SuperOneClick from here. MUST BE VERSION 1.5.5 - ALL NEWER VERSIONS I TRIED FAILED TO ROOT.
Once the driver is installed, extract SuperOneClick, run the exe and click root. If rooting fails, you need to fix your drivers. Right click on My Computer and click manage. In Device Manager, under Android Phone, if the device is called Android Composite ADB Interface you need to change the driver.
Right click and select Update Driver, choose install from a specific location and select don't search. On the next screen, uncheck the box to show compatible hardware.
You should be able to see two devices:
Android Composite ADB Interface and;
Android ADB Interface.
You want to select Android ADB Interface and click next. Wait for the drivers to install (takes a few minutes) and attempt to root again with SuperOneClick v1.5.5.
This is how I successfully rooted my Streak running Official 322 build.
i plan to buy dell streak. has it some hardware or software problem after froyo 2.2 update? please give me some advice my friends..... Thanks!
Want advice? If the steak is the phone for you then buy it. If not then just simply return it.
yes. i wants some advice before get it.
yes. i wants some advices before get it.
For me the software running on your streak colours your experience. Many have commented that the streak is an awsome piece of hardware, but second rate software support. Only because I have spent days educating myself and upgrading the streak myself that I now have something I am happy with.
The trick is find out what software the phone you are buying has on it. Stock 1.6 is nothing exciting. I nearly threw my phone at the wall after I put a version of beta software on it during an upgrade. The stock 2.2 is described by many as needing a performance fix. I have steves 1.5.3 running, and am happy with that.

May switch launchers... go for it... you will love it!
After 2 weeks of studying, internet search and reviews evaluations, I decided to go with THE STREAK .
Finally, I decided to get Dell Streak.

Not sure yet. Both if possible. I would like to run CM7 but im not sure the warrenty will cover it.. at least if it was a modded stock rom they would have less case to clam we did something horrible to it. But if I have to have a custom rom I would want to keep the stock boot animations.
Your warranty will be lost in case you flash CM or any custom modded stock ROM.
Yeah probably,
But this is not the point.. I need to customise 40 of them...
If I can't use a modded stock rom, I don't care.. I just have no idea of the easyest way to get this done.
Build the ROM to your liking on on one phone, take a Nandroid backup of that, and provide that to the 40 other phones, and restore from it. It should work. I can't think of any method to 'Push' it yet.
Warranty should not be an issue. RUUs are always there if you mess something up. My screen got messed up, and with an RUU I made it completely factory (including the HBOOT - it replaces it) and gave it to HTC service, and they are replacing it under warranty now.

I hope they don't give it back to you with factory updated 2.2.1. This sort of thing happened to many around here.
Anyhow, I was only suggesting that because the OP seems to want his phones for business purposes, and, I thought, for such situations, warranty and productivity is the most important factor, and, terms like modding and customization take a back seat.

I told the guy 3 times not to touch the software, and he assured me he won't lol.
Me: Will you update the software or anything?
Him: No problem. We'll do it for you if you want.
Me: I DON'T WANT IT OMG.
Him: Sure we won't update then.
They seem to know about root and stuff
I agree though, if it's for business then CM7 doesn't really seem appropriate, although it would make my respect for the business ++

Cool, I didn't realise a Nandroid could be restored to other phones.
Also we got lucky, they are running HBOOT 0.80.0008
Seems the OTA updates didn't apply. So the hard part will be rooting them all... wow.. so slow.. I will prolly use CM7 as a base.. But I'm not sure.. I need a way to Have GMAIL but not Market. Can I add the GAPP's pack and then remove the market.apk? Also we want NONE of the stock 'bigpuddle' crap on the phones as the users only have small data allowances. Hmmm Also the GAPPS' pack is it gmail maps and Market? Because we are only 50/50 on having email on the phones.. if it is.. I might just leave it out all together.
Hello everyone!
I have a Dell Venue Pro for T-Mobile service. I recently happened to brick the phone using the touch screen 2.0 update. I have read through the forums for the past day and a half and saw posts saying that firmware can be flashed but if it's the touch screen 2.0 brick it wouldn't work. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers or software.
I am at wits end because of this problem. I surely don't know what I am doing and Dell is of no help at all because my phone is 2 months out of warranty. The stock SD is still in the phone.
I would gladly be willing to donate to someone if they could help me with this. I would let them have remote access to my PC and do their thing. If anyone is willing, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Shawn
Buy a poor condition DVP with a cracked screen on ebay and swap the guts? Sell any salvageable parts, and hope to break even. That's all I can think of. From what I've read in the "how to unbrick your Dell Venue Pro" thread, it won't fix your problem.
I'll let more knowledgeable people offer their answers, but changing the hardware is an option.

Firmware updates (as apposed to rom updates) are very scary things since failures can mean you might not be able to fix it yourself.

I think you need to ask about specific upgrades on specific devices. Obviously if there is a crippling bug that can be fixed by a firmware update, that would be a significant advantage. In this case, it was a terrible mistake.
In general, don't do it unless you have to.
