Are there any leads to a Samsung Focus flashable ROM yet? Even an OEM ROM? I'd really like to take my Focus back to 7004 and start over if possible.
Unfortunately, I tried to recover using Windows Phone Support Tool and it destroyed my ability to Unlock again. I was trying to revert back to my 7004 backup, but was not sure how to do it.
Now I'm concerned about not being able to get OEM or Chevron updates. That would bite!
I have been looking for a while, no luck
wish I had the knowledge to make a rom to backup 7004 before upgrading
hopefully some nice person will make a rom (preferably Rogers as less bloatware)
Don't expect a ROM for Focus anytime soon. There's simply no one working on it. I have a bricked device that needs a new ROM flash. Been waiting for months now!

I'm hoping there is someone quietly working on it without posting their progress so they are not bombarded with questions and questions about when it will be released.
Please don't take offense if you've already done this, but have you already tried the Windows Phone Support Tool to try to get it going again? From what I saw when I ran it, the tool has the ability to download updates, and MAYBE ROM parts? It's just a thought.
There is no Rom for the Focus, I dont recomend this phone. I got a mine almost 4 month ago and was loaded with another Rom, I wait for a Rom to appear and i lost my hope,, no one is interested on it. So I sell the phone to a very dumb guy. Just resell it.

Would that not make you the dumb one for buying a phone that didn't have a stock rom in the first place? As is stands I think the stock rom is more than smooth enough. Yes there are things lacking and not as many tweakable options as android, but it is still very usable. Just be patient, it will come eventually.
Nobody seems to realize the disasters of Android when they first came out. We are already far ahead with WP7 on a timescale point of view.
Nobody is dumb here, we all just have different expectations from our devices.
Also, along the lines of time frames, WP7 is also ahead of the iPhone when it was released. It too had it's headaches, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get cut/paste faster? And MultiTasking will be here WAY faster than iPhone got it.
Just be patient, and give it a little time to mature. It's coming along quite nicely, especially lately. And the ATT feet dragging on the update? I'd much rather they took a little extra time than see a bunch of people in these threads with bricked phones, or upgrades that didn't work as planned. That can kill an OS. I think the first Feb update showed them they need to be cautious, and that's exactly what they are doing. No, I don't like to wait, I'm as impatient as the next guy, sometimes more, but it will be worth it in the long run.
UPDATE!
I was concerned that forcing the NoDo update and then using the Windows Recovery Tool had made my phone unable to receive the March NoDo update from ATT.
Well, I'm happy to say that I just plugged my phone in this morning, and I'm RIGHT NOW updating to the "Samsung update for Windows Phone".
WOOHOO!!!! I thought I was hosed...
Now, the question will be, Can I Unlock It? I doubt it, but at least I'm getting the actual Update from ATT. I'm hoping there is a firmware update included also. I'll let you know.

I did try to use the Windows Phone Support Tool, and even disected the code. It still needs signed FFUs from Microsoft to flash to the device. You can't just make it flash your custom ROMs.
It would really be awesome is someone was indeed working on a ROM for Focus right now, because then I would be able to bring my phone back to life. But unfortunately, I've been wating since february and it hasn't happened, and there have been people who have been waiting even longer.
I can't even sell the device to anyone because it doesn't even boot up. Its just a paperweight now. It was a bad decision to buy this phone. Should have gone with the Omnia 7 instead.

When you tried the Support tool, did it even see the phone? Will your phone even go into Restore Mode (Power/Camera)?
Just throwing ideas out, hoping to stumble across something that makes it light up again...

I dont understand why you are bashing this phone so badly. I moved from a fuze with win 6.5 plus. I loved the freedom i had with that phone. but, as with any rom and initial release of an op system. there will be bugs. there will be updates. This all takes time. I think this phone is awesome for now. Its very easy to use and is powerful and very fast. The wifi is much faster than what im used to. Just be patient there will be some great improvements to come for this.
The rom posted in the development forum works and is for AT&T Samsung Focus. Read my reply

Try this ?

See if it works for you.
Focus Rom
This maybe a true Focus Rom but the person who is saying it works has not or will not say how he used this rom. The upload tool included with the Rom does not work.
If it really does work why not just tell us what you used to flash the phone?
The other ROM 7004 included in the thread is a AT&T Demo ROM so don't use it.

I don't think so. On any of the claims.
He has clearly stated how he did it, the tool as well, but nobody actually verified. Unless someone actually tries those with a Focus, all rest are suppositions. Including mine.
So unless someone actually tries them, I have to say what the original poster (Chinese) said they are:
There are 3 roms posted there now:
-UCKC3
-UCKC3 mod/custom 7004 (no idea what that means)
-AT&T Demo
The last 2 have been posted by me in that order in the Focus UCKC3 rom thread.
does anyone know how to use this? i need an instruction

I'm not here to say bad things, I just had not sean a coment on how he was able to use the ROM, and was hoping somebody would say how they did it. And yes he did.
I know this has been asked before but i just want to be sure, i just got the xoom and i want to know if i can send it in for repairs. I just want to kno if its like the ipod's/phones where there is a physical feature that is broken, so i can relock and my warranty will be valid.

... yet they sold us a Google-Experience device with an unlocked bootloader.
You can't break anything seriously with software, which means any potential problems we'd have are either physical, user-abuse, or hardware defects. If you send it in and they determine that the problem is SW, they'll probably just wipe it back to stock and send it to you.
Fact does remain, however, that when you unlock that device you have to acknowledge you are voiding your warranty if you proceed. I'd like to think they would be reasonable - but at the same time, you have agreed to kiss off your warranty when you unlock.
That is why I am hesitant to unlock, on all of my Android Phones I have rooted because I know there is no hardware function that can tell it has been "Hacked" like on the iPhone. The Xoom I am unsure about because nobody has a definitive answer yet. My Eris broke 3 times while rooted and I unrooted each time and sent it in for a exchange. I just want the above situation to be equivilent to when/if (Hopefully not) my xoom has a hardware failure.

Moto has released their newest UPDATE for the xoom, on their website they included instructions and software to "RE-LOCK"/"UNROOT" your device before doing update. they dont care as long as you "relock"before sending the device to them to fix or reflash stock after you BUNKED a mod or etc...i dont recommend doing a theme flash, i did a few of them and had to go back to stock after every theme i tried, they did nothing but force close and i almost wasnt able to get back into CWM because the device wasnt recognized in adb...unlocking and rooting does nothing bad to your XOOM, best thing going for it, at least til there are some ROMS that couldnt get here any sooner...just a heads up

Thanks everyone! I think im going to unlock it when I get the chance, the SD card slot is a BIG thing that I could use, also I want it overclocked just a lil (1.25 Ghz per core) so it doesn't lag much on the home screen. Also im not going to be flashing roms and stuff mainly kernels. This device is going to be used as a family computer so i can't mess with it as much as I can with my Phone . Anyways thanks guys!

Don't get too excited. You can't root 3.2 yet.
I got the update this morning in Vancouver. If there is no root by the end of the weekend (I don't have my hopes up), then I'm downgrading. I need ad-hoc to work.
Got it last night in Nova Scotia.

Unfortunately I am not currently aware of a way to downgrade. trying to flash a lower version appears to leave the tablet unbootable. (otherwise I would be back on 3.1 until root for 3.2 appears)

Unfortunately it's too late for that for many of us...
When I upgraded I realized root may not work, but I always figured if it didn't I'd simply downgrade again and be ok... I never imagined that the downgrade wouldn't be possible either.
As my girlfriend said when I described it to her "who do they think they are? don't they know that you already paid for the device, it's not theirs anymore, why do they think they can still tell you what you can and can't do on it?" (Unfortunately I am not currently aware of any large technology company who believes that they actually sell you a device, they all think you merely rent it from them)

I'm in the same boat. Acer has always been pretty flexible, so I just assumed I'd be able to downgrade. Now I'm stuck.
This could likely be my last Acer product. Not that that carries any weight, considering how many returns they had on the initial run of the A500, which didn't appear to bother them that much. (Have you tried the new A500's, or the refurbs? The GPS actually works!)
I understand that they don't want us mucking around with these types of things, in order to keep themselves from getting flooded with warranty and service calls from the idiots who bricked their tablet, but they often adopt the wrong attitude. It's like some irrational need to police what people do with a product, after they bought and paid for it. I'm not sure why consumer electronics differ from any other purchased property (cars, houses, appliances, etc). I wish they would understand that they do not still own my tablet.
Then again, we did choose to install the update. It wasn't exactly forced on us. So maybe we're the idiots.

Every android device I had was not able to be downgraded. Not just acer. Ask the people who upgraded their EVO 4G to gingerbread. If your expecting to root you should always way until their is a rooted ROM available and never accept ota

I am happy that the new update seems to have made things smoother, but I am still getting the odd crash from apps like Dolpin Browser which is highly annoying, especially when I am in the middle of typing somthing big and then it FC's on me and I lose everything.
was in update loop
Dunno if this happened to anyone else. The tablet kept downloading the update and failing. I downloaded 3.2 update at least 8 times. The solution was to reset the tablet and then apply the update.
I've read its likely due to incompatible apps.
I'm happily on 3.2 now.
Does someone have the link to Acer for this update? If so please post the link.
Thanks

No link, however a couple of us captured the update as it came in to our tablets, and have you can find the files here
A couple things.
I am still on 3.1 but this is because i patched for Netflix.
Now the device thinks it's a Xoom on 3.2 (which it is not, as we all know).
First question is has anyone tried Netflix with the update?
I'll search for it but does anyone have the original file that the netflix patch replaced?
I can't remember what it's called so it's difficult to search for it
Hmmm sounds like ill stay on 3.1

Hi figured we could use our own separate thread to discuss the killswitch Nvidia supposedly put in place on our old Shield tablets and see what has worked for those who have received their replacement units. If you've gotten a replacement please share if your old unit has been destroyed or not...if not please let others know what the old tablet has on it or what you did to attempt to prevent the brick! Thanks for helping us all out here!
As I said in the other thread, I received my new one, and my old one is still usable on rooted latest stock, unlocked bootloader, with the only app missing being Chrome for some reason. Nothing else disabled or uninstalled. Maybe they haven't turned on the server that sends the kill signal yet.
If the company wants the other device back (dunno if that is true), why keep it? You are breaking a deal while making it less appeling for companies to do this type of thing...+its a saftey risk for you and others around you.
Nvidia said they do not need it back
ManualG on the Nvidia forum said they are not requiring you send it back
"We don't require you to send it back to us to receive the replacement and are collecting them only to make it less of a burden on everyone else who dont have drop off locations like that close by." So you can keep it if you want ?
16 gig tablet, got it this morning. My original is still functional, it was stock rom, rooted with xposed on it. That's as much modding as I've done with mine.
does anyone have more informations about this killswitch?
Is it a service that needs to be deactivated or deleted or a kernel feature?
I just want to make sure it doesn't kill my old tablet when I set up the new one.
Alternatively, I could just flash an older factory image or custom firmware.
From what I've read on other forums (i.e. reddit) most have indicated that the killswitch is embedded in the bootloader and will activated on the defective tablet once the replacement tablet is registered on the nvidia side. I of course cannot confirm for this to be the case but just sharing what others have reported.
yea but it must communicate with the server then and that only works when Android is booted up and all communication drivers loaded.
So there must be another service running in Android that gives this information to the bootloader to kill itself.
If it's bootloader based, flash a bootloader from one of the older recovery images.
Will try that. BL from Update 2.2.2 should be fine?
actually if I flash it back to 2.2.2 it should be fine too since the changes to 3.X aren't that big
That should work just fine.
big time noob question but where are you getting the old bootloaders from to flash?
Until somebody's tablet gets deactivated and a log is captured during the deactivation process, everything said here or anywhere else is just speculation.

Oh I completely agree. I'm all for conversion. But I don't want people to get the wrong impression, like trying to flash an older bootloader. That may stop the deactivation, but it also may not. Its only speculation at this point.

To me, this is the most logical place to start at this point! Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but unlocking the bootloader, rooting, and installing a custom rom seem like a good starting place. If the stock devices are definitely getting wiped anyways, any changes we make now can't hurt the chances of keeping it alive!
Hello guys.
I live in South Korea and just had contact with customer service.
They said once my warranty is now passed, they might not be able to provide me a free repair, but google will soon release an update that is supposed to fix the BLOD(Boot Loop Of Death), so I'd better wait for it.
I don't know if it will work, but for me, and people having a phone which can't even get to recovery but only bootloader, who seem to have nothing to lose, this update will worth the wait.
Let's hope that's true and we can get our 6P back to life.

Good luck but I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up too high. But you aren't the first person Huawei told this to. Hopefully there is something to it besides them trying to brush people off. I personally think people should file a class action suit against Huawai since the phone appears to be defective and it should last for more than a year given its premium price. I've never had a phone from HTC, LG or Samsung break, no matter how long I kept using them. I've never even heard of another phone that has all the issues the 6P does.

Yeah I'm suspecting if there's an inherent hardware defects, and if that's the case, I think they should provide us a proper support like LG providing refund of Nexus 5x in US.
But, I'm not an expert and don't know what caused boot loop.
As I saw another person who may live in another country of mine, heard from Huawei that update will fix the problem, there may be something google is preparing for.
For now, there best thing I can do, is wait android 7.1.2 beta image.
If it won't work, that's a problem of then.
p.s. luckily I have unlocked bootloader, but considering boot looping devices can update their software only through unlocked bootloader, what should normal people having locked bootloader should do?

If you have exhausted your warranty options, it's time to put the phone down and move on.

Maybe you're right.
I'm not sure if the update will fix my phone, and whether they meant 7.1.2 beta or officially update.
I also have a bad feeling that my phone won't back, but if this phone doesn't return, I have no choice but keep using my old-fashioned Nexus 5.
If the beta update doesn't fix it, maybe I'll just give up or give it a second chance for official update.. but for now, I can see some hope because Huawei said it to me.
There's some news about what I tried, but there ain't good things.
First, I downloaded N4F26O update(https://developers.google.com/android/images), which was uploaded in 2 days ago(Yeah, I only thought about 7.1.2 beta, abd didn't think about this) and installed it.
It didn't work.
So I contacted with Huawei and Google's consumer care center.
Huawei said, to talk about softwares, I should contact with Google.
Google said, they didn't receive any plan of the update which is supposed to fix boot loop. I got confused, since a days ago, Huawei once did say there will be that update.
They also said, if I have a secondary phone, I'd better use that phone and see if the update will be released and fix my phone.
So... I didn't gain anything. Google and Huawei both said they can't assure the update will fix the bootloop, and the only clear solution is to change its motherboard.
Well, I won't give up, at least unti thel 7.1.2 beta's release, but I'm tired and for now, have nothing to do.
I'll just wait for the 7.1.2 beta.
I'll just keep waiting...
If you feel compelled to support, and bring attention to this issue.

Since you have nothing to lose, why not try this while you are waiting. I would direct any questions you have about this method to the dev.

But that's seems to be for devices that's stuck in EDL mode.
I still can access bootloader, so thank you for your advice, but that seems to not work.
I'm afraid that you'll have to let this go.. Huawei is know for telling customers BS on the phone. Even the warranty repair center sucks. They downgrade people their phones and say that the battery issue is now resolved. It really is a shame, but they don't give a rat's *ss about you or any other customer who has already paid for the product.
