PC World ranks Epic #1
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/collection/1671/top_10_cell_phones.html
Now that the upload is fixed, that was the only real complaint I had left. Android 2.2 will be nice sure, but the phone kicks ass as it is.

I agree....only thing I was worried about was support...but it seems they are on top of the ****....I love the phone!
For PC world to rank this phone as #1 they are smoking something over there.
While it is a GREAT phone. If this is the ABSOLUTE TOP PHONE that HUMAN BEINGS can produce right now, we are a sad sad world.
What about the droid X that not only scores higher, but gets better 3g speeds and doesn't have a gps lock problem out of the box?

I'm not really complaining - I'm just pointing out that pc world has rated a phone #1 when it has glaring issues and that if this is really the best phone in the country. Well.........wow.

Have you used a droid x after the 2.2 update? The damn application menu scrolls at something close to 15 fps. I love the build quality of the hardware but damn moto blur sucks. (i'm not a huge fan of touchwiz either, but at least it's not running at a wholly unacceptable framerate.... a little bit of disclosure, i'm an animator so crappy frame rate REALLY bothers me.)

Yup. I wouldn't touch a Droid X. Thing is choppy as hell. Besides, our GPU blows it out of the water.
Even though I love my Epic, the subpar battery life makes me disagree about it being rated # 1. It's really close I think but I'm not 100% there yet.
Let's see what 2.2 brings and then we can assess it better then. I love this phone much though. :-*

What is hard to believe about Epic being #1? If you think all phones aside from the Epic are perfect out of box you are kidding..in perspective the issues that the Epic came out with weren't so bad in comparison to many other devices....
Anyways..sprint made a bunch of funny commercials based on getting the #1 from pc-world:

Oh and I'm fine...finally happy I got MobileAP working and everything..wish it would transfer more of the 4g speeds but I guess its still faster then 3g a bit :/...
And I suggest watching the Epic Hero one..its the best lol
Listen guys, I don't mean to just sit here and bash my phone. The truth is I want to love it!
Today was a better day for me and my epic. The gps did a good job out on the boat and with the upload fixed I'm doing better.
IMHO a phone that is rated #1 should have NO ISSUES at all. While I realize that's never going to happen. It's a sad statement on our technology that something with multiple problems on launch day is rated #1

That makes no sense. Issues or not, someone's gotta be #1. This is the best phone, and the droid x is weak in comparison.

The Nexus One wasn't even meant to be a consumer phone..that said, its not like Nexus One is flawless out of the bag. and in their ratings my guess they went off stock on when it came out initially aka 2.1.
That said Nexus One still got #6 which is not too bad considering...

PC World must be on Crack!
Yes the phone has top notch specs/feature, but it doesn't seem to do anything well ... Other then the pix and vids it takes.
I'm not saying PC World is on crack because I feel it's a bad phone. I just don't think it should be ranked #1 because of all the problems everyone's been seeing.
The biggest issue is that GPS is broken, even though Sprint/Samsung stated it was fixed just before launch. The compass doesn't work either. And until just the other day, the upload was capped.
I also don't think they (Sprint/Samsung) will ever get the GPS "Fixed" because I feel it's a hardware or design issue. I say this because the GPS problem is on all the Galaxy S phones, so Samsung has had plenty of time to get it fixed, if software could fix it. I hope I am proven wrong on this....
I also don't know if it was done on Sprint's request, but there's no video out on the 3.5mm jack and no FM radio, even though the hardware is supposedly there. What happened? It makes no sense to not have the video out, when all the other Galaxy S phones do.
I'm not saying this phone isn't a good phone. I just think it should be ranked #1, with the problems it has.

So far i tested Raging Thunder 2 and Dungeon Hunter.
Both are running a little choppy on the EVO while they are smooth as butter on the N1. Not horribly laggy but the you can clearly see the difference.
I tried to disable Sense and any live wallpaper, but still the results are the same.
I hope this is a software issue which is going to be fixed prior to release.
ewwwww, I really hope your right.
You hope i am right or wrong? lol.
Less complex games are running just fine on both devices. It is the more graphically complex games that are slightly choppy on the EVO.
does the Nexus have 2.2?
this is to be semi expected since the EVO has senseUI.
Check out this video. At the start you can see the apps list scrolling is a bit choppy on the EVO, then in Linpack the score is only about 5.8. My HTC Incredible gets a score of 6.8 normally.
Finally in the 3d benchmark it is the slowest. Even lower than a Motorola Droid! What is going on here, is something making the EVO slower than equal spec'd phones?(N1, Incredible)
the Nexus has 2.2, so it's bound to be faster. the Droid has stock 2.1, so it's not working as hard to run senseUI.
looks about right to me.

wondering why the incredible is scoring higher though (Post above yours)
unless its just a problem with the prelaunch software on it?
Honestly, if the evo is going to not perform better then the droid that could very well kill it for me, if i'm going to upgrade i'm going to upgrade to the best, not the second best.
I'm really hoping these devices tested are running a version of Eclair that hasn't been optimized yet. I mean, there's absolutely no way HTC could downgrade their flagship device compared to the Nexus One and Droid. I'll be ridiculously disappointed if these speed tests are accurate representations of the final Evo release.
You're splitting hairs regarding 3D performance. JIT this the main benchmark you should care about now. Next on Google's plate is optimizing 3D performance.

Jesus christ, all of you guys are whiny babies, go cry about how there is a 1 FPS DIFFERENCE somewhere else. I'm fairly certain this is a god damn software issue that can be fixed, especially with 2.2. I find it so silly to see people say things like this are going to kill getting the evo for them, like i said, go cry about how everything in this phone is TOP OF THE LINE except 1 feature, you can't have a god damn perfect phone whiny babies.
And by the way, i kept myself from using another b word instead of babies to keep myself from getting banned .

I agree. I guess I'm not as big of a "phone geek" as others appear to be. I'm gonna be using my Evo for (of course) making/receiving calls, internet, some music, and social networking. I have an iPod touch and Nintendo DSi for gaming. I don't need to be wasting what little battery power I have on senseless games. I can't believe something that minute would stop someone from getting a phone. If you want a gaming system invest in a PSP or Nintendo DS.
WOW ok did you forget to take your medication today? I didn't read that anyone was crying they were merely stating what they have seen. Don't be such a fan boy.

Actually, yes, i did, but my hangover medication is beside the point. If you weren't so obtuse, you would know that crying is a way to say complaining, especially over something so silly like this. Lastly, fanboy? Really? I respect all phones, although i love android phones, i'm very fair to others. I love the iphone and always will(a bit bored of the OS, still love it though), really love webos and the pre(though i suck at using it), and i personally love the nexus one. I am far from a fanboy, I just realize that the EVO is easily the best phone on the market right now, and to say it isn't would be ignorant, and to not buy it because it scored slightly, SLIGHTLY lower on a test, which is very likely a software problem, is something a crybaby complains about.
agreed with above. Crying in a thread is not going to help anything. Instead try and figure out WHY it is 1fps lower.
I find it so funny the flip-floppers based on a few small reports. Let's see the Incredible needs to have its optical mouse calibrated, it's Battery Meter updated so that it won't require the charge, turn off, turn on, charge again to gain its 100% actual charge, the intermittent hit the power on button to wake and it doesn't wake right away issue. It's not a perfect phone! OH MY!
With the EVO you are getting every bit the phone the incredible is and then some. 4G(not applicable to all), 30% increased screen size, Brilliant TFT screen, HTC Exchange enhancements(some of these features were stripped in the Incredible), ROOTED already, You Tube HD, Front facing camera. There are a few more I am sure.
If you don't like the way the phone feels in your hands then its not inferior its just not for you. If you think that the 3D features are not up to your standards than the phone is not for you if you can't wait for updates and improvements which are surely to arrive sooner than later. I don't care for 3D so the phone will be exactly what I want. I have the Incredible as well and will keep both.
If there was just one phone that would cater to everyone then that company will never need to make another phone again.
Holding back for a phone based on a few reports and not having tried it out is kinda silly don't cha think?
Wait until it arrives, lay out your cash and take a test drive.
Big deal..

Another thing I like to keep in mind is potential...our rooted optimized Heros are running Neocore at some 33 fps (blows the sox off all three devices in the above video). Imagine what'll happen when the devs getta hold of a device w/ twice the computing power!!
There's speculation that the demonstrated 2.1 is a preliminary build so that may speak a lot as to why there seems to be a performance issue. I personally don't care what my phone runs like when I first get it, cuz I know a stock ROM will rarely perform as well as a custom cooked ROM.

My N1 was running those games fine on 2.1.
It is not a matter of crying about 1fps....
the games literally stutter when you play them, it is not as if they are just slower.
like there is some bottleneck somewhere in the software (maybe drivers) that is preventing the phone from reaching better performance.
I tried to disable Sense UI and the live wallpaper but so no improvement.
I also don't think this is related to JIT, as it seems like a GPU issue.
Anyone knows if there is a command i can run on the phone that will show me what the CPU clocks at?
Came from a Droid 1 to the Epic today. I liked my droid, but the verizon bill was the biggest ripoff on the face of earth. Lately I've been hearing good things about Sprint, and I also wanted the evo... after some reviewing today, I decided that Epic was the better choice for me because of keyboard (I sometimes use the keyboard, maybe not enough to justify tho) better performance, and better battery life. I was aware it didn't come with 2.2...
Well now that I'm playing around with this thing, I miss all the features of the 2.2! BT voice dial, JIT, flash, 2.2 specific apps... I miss all of them!
It's very upsetting to know that samsung will probably not release the 2.2 for these phones until 2.3 is almost released on the Nexus One and all =/
also, I hear everyone praising the AMOLED screen, but I see all these grainy dots on it, it's brigther, but looks more pixalated, it's hard to tell, it's easy to tell on white.
Has anyone done the switch to EVO or to Epic from the EVO? what are your thoughts? it's def snappier compared to my gf's evo running 2.2... and the screen size diff isn't that big

I had a evo. I had it oc to 1.11ghz and running cynagon 6 rc1. I switched to the epic and never looked back. My epic when stock is almost as good as my evo in the state it was. My epic is now oc to 1.2ghz and I'm running the ee rom. Its even close to my evo. Once we get cynagon or 2.2 the epic will blow the evo out the water.

Yeah, I have to root this thing still, I haven't done the adb thing, so I would need step by step instructions on that, down to where I download adb to my comp (no idea how it works)
That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of CM on my droid, but if that's the only thing we'll have with epic and 2.2, i'll gladly use it.

I have to be honest here. I think some people talk about Froyo like it is this amazing leap forward in technology and it is like a night and day difference from 2.1 out there.
I have an Epic 4G and love the thing! I had a chance to play with a friend's G2 last weekend and, when looking at the 2.2 froyo Android, all I could think of was "Really? Seriously? This is making people decide NOT to get an Epic 4G? Are you fricken kidding me?"
First off, Froyo should be out on the Epic within a month of this posting. Second, the things you are talking about are almost non-issues! You can't voice dial over blue tooth? Wow...I voice dial all the time by holding the phone for all of about 15 seconds to tell it "dial 1-800-dont-be-lame" and then drop it on the seat as it runs the call over BT. Flash...installed already and you don't need root to do it. JIT? Really? 2.2 specific apps? Like what?
Don't take this wrong, and it is NOT meant to be an insult (though it might sound like one a bit) but you almost sound like those zealots who argue that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie even if the movie kicks butt.
The Epic is an awesome movie...

How do u have flash? Skyfire is not real flash if that's what ur referring to. Also in cali u can get a ticket if u voice dial the way u mentioned above. 2.2 has many advantages over 2.1 no need to argue that 2.2 is not a big deal. That being said the epic will get it soon, and even without 2.2 it is a beast. However if the op is used to 2.2 apps and some of the feautures I understand his concern, no need to start calling the op nmes because his opinion of the phone does not agree with urs.

The difference between eclair and froyo are night and day. There is so much more you can do with froyo then you can with eclair and 3yr performance gain is well worth it. Once the epic gets froyo it will put the rest to shame. I had both the epic and evo on launch day. The epic out the box put the evo to shame. The only reason the evo is a tad bit better is cause of froyo.

Guys, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the phone and doubt I'll be going to the evo within my 30 days, but from what i've been reading the november date is for the european galaxy phones? (haven't done enough research on that yet, just the thread here about it)
that being said, unless you had a 2.2 and used it regularly, you wouldn't know I guess ExploreMN. one nice feature was the auto update and update all feature on the 2.2. the app2sd is a nice feature too. believe it or not, the V8 JIT browser is faster, you can run a sun spider test and see the dif in numbers if you want. If it comes out in a month, I could care less really. I might not even bother rooting then, since i'll have to wait for a rooted 2.2 etc etc...
as far as the grainy dots go, if you can compare it next to another phone like droid, evo, iphone (any other smart phone) and look at the white on the super amoled, you can see what I'm talking about. honestly my eyes are already getting used to it though. I dunno, it's hard to tell, but it's there if you look. colors are def more vibrant though, grainy dots or not... lol
I'm really just disappointed about the 2.2 issue, and I hope it does come out november like engadget said.
oh, also, the speaker volume (phone ring and notifications) seems really low on this thing, I made sure it was on high... anyone else have anything to say about that?
I have the black tie thing, so no deductable here either

that being said, unless you had a 2.2 and used it regularly, you wouldn't know I guess ExploreMN. one nice feature was the auto update and update all feature on the 2.2. the app2sd is a nice feature too. believe it or not, the V8 JIT browser is faster, you can run a sun spider test and see the dif in numbers if you want.

First thing I did was compare the screen to my evo. I'll take the samoled any day. I never seen these dis you speak of. Maybe you got a bad phone. Take it back compare it to another epic then replace it.

no it's not the phone... I looked at the att one few months ago and realized that, so it's def not the phone. I think i'm actually the only one that sees this, had to point it out to my gf and she barely saw it. maybe she was just agreeing with me lol...
looking side by side to the evo though, the colors are def more 'vibrant'

Yea samoled gets tiny dots on all white screen. Ur not the only one who sees it. I personaly only notice it when I look super super su0per carefully. It doesn't bother me at all, but I understand it may be a prob for some ppl who notice it.

oh, for the guy who said 2.2 is junk
sun spider on epic - 16758ms
droid 1.0ghz 2.2 - 8331ms
I searched through the forums quite a bit and even good but have yet to find anything specific. I'm not sure which phone to get since I can not find a rooted comparison.
Please read about my HTC Hero and my original thoughts here:
jpklink.blogspot.com
Main Points:
Weight and size are not an issue: Glass screen is a +
Price is not an issue.
Standard Mini USB charging is a +
Battery life is not so important.
Texting Speed is 100% most important item - my hero can not keep up with my fingers and it is beyond frustrating.
I know this is the Epic forum so I can't say I don't expect you to be bias, but it would be nice to hear anything at all. Just wanted to hear how the phones compare as BOTH rooted devices with all speed benefits.
As of now the epic has an issue where it will miss keys on the physical keyboard every so often. Txlexting speed is also very important to me (I have an epic) and I have been dissappinted with the physical keyboard to say the least. That being said, the evo does not even have a physical keyboard and you could use any keyboard from the evo on the epic. The app "Smart keyboard" is the best of all that I have tried. The screen on the epic is also substantially better than the evo. The evo gets updates before the epic because it is an htc phone so that is always something to consider. Good luck.

If you fancy yourself with modding then an Evo is a clear cut winner. There are much more Roms, Mods, and source codes are always released first for HTC phones. Samsung has a history of not really supporting their devices. Epic is no exception. And if you look at the news today in the Android world, signs point to Samsung focusing on supporting Windows 7 phones in 2011 while Android will slowly move to the back seat. http: //phandroid.com/2010/11/22/samsung-focusing-more-on-windows-7-in-2011-but-will-it-matter/

Yeah you can tell how tarded they are by them having the hottest phone on the planet and neglecting it.
MLHickey:
Actually, I completely forgot to mention, I don't know that I would use the keyboard much anyway. I guess if it was there, I may start to use it, but I like the touch screen keyboard, I'm quite fast with them. In fact I still use T9 a LOT, especially while I'm driving. So as far as the keyboard goes, not a huge pro/con for me. When I mention texting speeds, I just want the phone to be able to keep up with me. My experience with the HTC hero is bad in the sense that I'll be waiting every few words for the phone to catch up so I can check for errors before continuing to type.
imwillzillla:
Those are some really good points! So if I root the Evo with a custom rom, the speeds will be comparable to a rooted epic? And how come HTC stuff comes out first/sooner? Just because the phone has been out longer?
Windows 7... ew. Those are definitely some good points. Do HTC updates and that matter much if I'm installing a custom ROM?
Thanks guys.
Note: I heard the Evo now comes stocked with something that prevents it from being rooted and still today they've yet to break it. Any truth to this?

Great news. I've been leaning towards the evo... looks like it's decided. Thanks again MLHickey.
Last note is, should I wait for early 2011 in case HTC releases something crazy. I mean, I can live on my HTC hero a few more months if I need to.
Just thought as an epic owner Im obligated to reply. The choice is a hard one, but the epic is faster, a better screen (even if slightly smaller) and since its basically stock android doesnt need roms like cynagen to be super fast and its only slightly thicker then the evo. You also get better battery life on the epic.
As for the keyboard, its really not that bad, and a keyboard is better then nothing at times when touch typing just isnt working out as planned.
I had the same hard decesion and luckily when I was visiting home a few weeks ago I got to play with my parents evo. Don't let the benchmarks fool you, the epic is much faster, plus that screen, you get size shock from the evo, but color and contrast shock from the epic. Plus you can install htcs awesome on screen keyboard on the epic. Its the best of all worlds in my book. The evo will have faster updates though, but really.. updates are almost superficial because by time android 2.2 is unsupported should they stop there you will likely be getting a new phone. Gps might or might not work better on the evo, some epics are fine, others aren't.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm not tryna sound biased but u gotta be kidding me.. maybe ur gf's usage is much higher.. honestly 4 of my friends have evo's and whenever we're chilling on either of our houses, they fight over the charger.. although my epic is rooted and has custom rom+kernel and their evo doesn't but even b4 i rooted mine i had much better battery life..
The keyboard on this thing is not great, but it beats having none. WPM will not be high with this keyboard, although accuracy is not bad. Still, coming from a Hero, I really like having a keyboard now.
The main gripe is Samsung's poor support, small ROM, and the gps on this thing.
If you text a lot, this should still be your choice as it is faster than virtual keyboards.

Lets be a smarta$$ about it.
Anyways.
No. I have asked about the Evo's battery life and I quite frequently hear it hardly makes it through the day from people who DO own them. I've had mine unplugged with moderate use and plenty of calls since 7am and its at 40% right now at 11PM. Now to be fair.. my Epic is rooted with the battery sucking processes from Sprint/Samsung cut out, the Evo's i've heard about are stock. If both were rooted you'd probably cut similar results.
They both have 1500MAH batteries, they will both be roughly the same if you cut the fat out of each I imagine.
As for the screen, yeah the colors are not as accurate, but you're not going to notice, they have a cooler look to them which bothers the heck out of graphics designers and the like heh heh but really.. it's still stunning in comparison to the evo, but thats just MY opinion.
You really need to go into the Sprint store and play with both as much as you can.... you really can't go wrong with either of them and their pro's and con's split pretty evenly.
1) for the keyboard issue..try disabling Swype and use the hardware kb.
2) Epic even with the custom roms we have is doing fairly well...I mean take all the custom roms on the EVO and the Epic and you'll notice there isn't too much difference...most of the advantages EVO had was gotten from the Nexus One which hopefully we will get from the Nexus S.
3) You can do a bunch with custom roms on the EVO to make it run smoother but It'll never run as smooth as the epic.
4) The colors can't be more accurate on the EVO because its only 64k colors..if anything Droid X has probably the most accurate colors...but since EVO is only 64k colors it won't be accurate...the Super AMOLED tends to be mroe blue because the blue dies out the fastest...over time it balances itself out...on my device though if I set it to 100% brightness its white as I lower the brightness it turns grayish..but thats what lowering brightness is suppose to do...
5) Yeah.. texting while driving is bad...
6) Battery life varies by your usage..overall though if you configure it best you can on both devices Epic will win.

i had to read that twice, he wasnt talkin about you only having two cents... he was referring to owning both phones... just kinda seemed like u took that the wrong way...
Personally, I never got to actually play around with an evo but I will say these things about my epic:
The keyboard, though sometimes annoying, is a great bonus to have for those who text/email/im/fb/whatever a lot. And you can bring the htc keyboard over to the epic as well.
The battery life on custom roms/kernels seems to be better when compared to most evo scenarios (I don't have an evo so don't quote me)
The color temps can be fixed using voodoo color.
The phone DEFINITELY responds better to user input than the evo, hands down (probably due to the evo having so much bloat, and also due to the better built cortex processor)
Updates on the evo happen more quickly, this is very true. But our devs have done a great job fixing MOST of our major issues.
This is a big one that people seem to be failing to mention. The new froyo modems seem to FIX gps PERMANENTLY. I've been running wifi on my epic for days without a reboot and gps is on hot start (not using the cold start workaround) and every time I get a full lock within seconds (using gps status).
All in all, I love my epic and the way it runs thanks to our community, but if you want a more reliable manufacturer (and a community that isn't chock full of spoiled brats who's parents bought them the phone), go with the evo.
If you can deal with the slower updates and the forum nonsense, go with the epic.

Lol!
I think more kids end up with an epic over an evo just because of the keyboard. Look son it has a keyboard so you can type fast! "OMG L33T AHH! SWEET!" lol..
I wonder how many kids actually are on these forums when I was 12 I wasn't looking for ways to hack my cell phone... then again when I was 12 I think that Motorola "flip" phone that looked like something outta star trek was the most popular one for being so "portable". lol
uhm no, thats why there are sidekicks.. i doubt u will c a kid with an epic or evo..

The nexus s is identical to the vibrant, but it has what everyone wants from their vibrant a good camera even in low light but with flash, and a new os : gingerbread 2.3, in hardware specs its almost identical, software and flash is where it gets better than the vibrant
Dont have one because the only thing it has over the Vibrant that i care about is Gingerbread. The camera flash isnt a big deal to me.
So far so good.
JIT actually works on GB quadrant CPU score is now on par with snapdragon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9858387&postcount=1
I never had issues really with my vibrant GPS but notices quicker and more accurate locks haven't tested on road yet
Covering the bottom left corner on NS doesn't cause signal drop
Like the all around look of the NS doesn't have the cheap looking chrome the vibrant has and no more tmobile or samsung on the front just all black
and also has a rounder look making it look slightly smaller and more sleek along with curve glass
Took some getting use to unlocking and gaining root access but managed and also got clockwork recovery image flashed
Gingerbread is just fast and really snappy
that's about it for now
nothing really stands out in WOW factor its pretty much a vibrant with Google support.. And hopefully they port gingerbread to vibrant and hopefully its optimized to take full advantage of JIT because it makes a difference
EDIT
Tested on road and is very accurate and didn't run into any lost or spotty signal while navigating.
Probably due to the fact that they changed the cell and GPS antenna so they no longer interfere with one another like on my vibrant
Well my vibrants gps is perfect locks within 5 secs accurate compass works correctly and with the new google maps its faster, my vibrant being made recently 10-20 came with preinstalled ji6 which does fix the gps problems, as of now im happy with the vibrant just gonna wait till ota froyo comes which should be really soon, im done flashing custom roms they either made my gps worse or messed up my haptic vibrations ended up exchanging so many times at the tmobile store lol i took full advantage of my 14 day period i think i exchanged 2 vibrants got a G2 hated the G2 so horrible and back to another vibrant. Only thing the nexus really has over the vibrant for me is the flash and gingerbread, but i dont want gingerbread badly enough to sell my brand new vibrant due to froyo coming soon and theres no huge difference between 2.2 and 2.3 compared to 2.1 to 2.2

Just got my Nexus S. The final straw for me was the fact that the official Samsung twitter is now saying that they "cannot pinpoint a date" for 2.2, yet they had previously been saying "by the end of the year." So they should be able to at least say by the 31st unless they were lying earlier. I have lost faith in them and will never buy a Samsung phone again unless it is a situation like the Nexus where they are not involved with OS/software.
Anyways, it is what you would expect. Basically a Galaxy S except without Samsung tainting the software and no restrictions of any kind. Samsung makes great hardware but, damn, they suck when it comes to supporting existing customers and software engineering. The camera is nice, though I hope that they add in support for HD video recording (which I'm sure it is capable of). Everything I have tried seems to be very fast and well optimized. I also like the small interface changes in 2.3. The phone actually feels a little heavier/thicker than the Vibrant to me, though it isn't in a bad way like the MT4G (which is ugly, too, IMO). External styling seems nice though not much different.
I'm happy. I got what I wanted: unmodified/unrestricted Android and not waiting forever (if ever) for updates.

Interesting the 3D doesn't score as well as the Galaxy S....
It also has relatively slow IO considering its EXT4 partitions.
edit: i guess the NS has an option that slowed the IO down, devs have 'fixed' it and its performing as you would expect..
Also think maybe its just a 2.3 problem with apps maybe causing the 3d scores? well see as time progresses.

I don't fully understand what is being said in that twitter reply... so there is a hardware difference between the Vibrant and Nexus S that prevents HD recording? Seems strange that Google would downgrade the hardware in the S. Then again, they took out the SD slot.

Basically, the Vibrant had an extra chip that assisted with video recording. There wasn't room for it in the Nexus S, so it won't be able to do 720p.

Are you unaware of the season? I know people expect their GPS to work underground but it doesn't ALWAYS work. That and Nexus owners have this sense of entitlement and ***** at the slightest problem as if battery pack just blew up when the battery meter jumps from 100 to 97 fresh off of the charger.
Thank Google for the FC's and poor call quality. Google has some type of noise compression that's software based. Of course, they're controlling the software which means it's supposed to be 100% awesome 100% of the time.
I held one in best buy, and while it is nicer then vibrant, its still nothing special. Gingerbread sucks, I have all gingerbread I need on my vibrant already, I don't really care about game optimization which was the main focus on Ginger. For me its a 50/50 betweeen upgrade and downgrade, the only problem is that its almost 600 bucks....
Hardware let me down, software let me down, maybe developers will surprise me.

Yea might have FC but thats because software isn't working with 2.3 and needs to be updated. This is the developers responsibility not Google...Gingerbread is perfect and run absolutely fine.
Also FYI you will always find people complaining about one thing or another doesn't matter how revolutionary and stable a product is...even more so when you dont actually have hands on experience and seems to be looking for as much negative things possible to justify your decision on not getting it

I wanted to say that Gingerbread has very little to offer. It looks good, it has updated copy/paste, keyboard, and optimization for games. I have all those things and more (due to TouchWiz extras) except for optimization for games.....
And frankly speaking, Nero v1 (obviously with JIT) runs very fast and has zero FC.....and it only gets better day by day.
JIT has nothing to do with NS running a bit faster, its ext4. and even after that people are still reporting "laggy browser" in NS, which is THE ONLY issue I have with Vibrant right now.
So I have to ask... why keep the phone right now? Its obviously really sluggish at most anything it does in regards to the UI. Arent there more 2.3 dual core phone options coming out in the next month or so? Why wait until fall to enjoy your phones dual core power? 2.2 doesnt support it, so shipping it with that is borderline BS if you ask me.
Not to mention AT&T limited the data speeds on it is grounds for a class action.
Seeing that there is a GRHxx build from.atrix dev phones floating around the atrix dev forum, im going to assume that Gingerbread is going to make its way over to the atrix. When? No one knows. But it will and if id have to guess, id say mid year.

Where'd you get the idea that 2.2 doesn't support multiple cores?

Because of the wealth of people who offer answers and have no clue what they're talking about.
The kernel on the Atrix supports multiple cores. Here:

The amount of misinformation on the atrix is completely insane. Stuff like not using all of the ram, and people thinking one of the cores is useless until 2.3.

That's actually good to know.
I had no idea about the core usage, but then again, the Atrix is my first Android phone...hell, it's my first smartphone, so it's been running great thus far.
I am curious about the RAM now though.
they're just jealous.
Well, it is AT&T we're talking about. But the Atrix is a flagship phone, so it could go either way. The fact that it didn't ship with Gingerbread is a bit disheartening, though. Here's hoping we see it before Ice Cream.
You wont taste icecream gingerbread mabey icecream Atrix 2 understand marketing.

Says the guy who thinks a gyroscope is an important part of phone performance..... Seriously.... i've you have absolutely NOTHING good to say about the Atrix, don't own one, and apparently don't give a crap about it.... why keep trolling the Atrix forums? Besides.... what are the chances that your beloved Nexus S will see the light of Ice Cream? Probably just as likely as the Atrix, or even less so seeing as your Nexus S has half the memory and only a single core processor.
As for the OP.... i'm not sure where you're getting that it's "sluggish at most anything it does in regards to the UI". Even WITH MotoBlur, it's very responsive, and even moreso when using LauncherPro.
And I have yet to see you form a complete and puncuated sentence in all of your rant about gyroscopes and pretty much anything about the Atrix....

I doubt it has much to do with jealousy. I'm reminded of Agent K's (Tommy Lee Jones) quote from Men in Black:

Actually, a lot of the people think that one of the cores is useless until 2.4. Though, to be fair, 2.4 will supposedly use the Tegra 2 MUCH better than 2.3.
According to that article that examined Froyo update times, Motorola was the fastest on average getting a Froyo update to market among manufacturers, and AT&T was the slowest among carriers, so between the two, I suspect we'll see Gingerbread in no worse a timeframe than average, hopefully better.
I'm almost positive HTC beat motorola in terms of OS updates.
Phones going back for a few main reasons:
No HSUPA support. Ridiculous.
Cant produce the color YELLOW... which is simply unacceptable.
Dock limited in resolution so it looks like crap on my LCD monitor.
UI is sluggish, very sluggish. It cant even handle the beautiful widgets animation or the animated gingerbread docks.
Guess ill wait for the Galaxy S 2.

Wow yours can't? I'm running a lot of programs in the background, streaming HD video from YouTube, and countless other things and I get no lag whatsoever.
Rooted/ROM Captivate
Rooted Atrix

I don't have my atrix yet, but from what I've read so far, coupled with common sense, I'd say:
- HSUPA is only supported for iPhone on AT&T. It is a network issue, not a phone issue.
- I am pretty sure it can. Maybe not the exact hue of yellow that you would like, but I would be very surprised otherwise.
- Isn't the dock putting out in HD or qHD? Should be good enough... also, check your settings.
- As mentioned many times across this forum, the UI seems to be quite fast. As you'd expect from a dual core 1GHz processor with kick-ass mobile GPU. It is possible, though, that some apps/widgets are not 100% compatible with it.

You will get around 14fps which in turn, is the fps you will get on your UI. captivate for me gets 24ish.

HSUPA is a modem issue - if we could hack the boot loader, we could fix it... buuuuuuttt we cant.
The phone cant do yellow, it does brown. Go to wikipedia and scroll down to the actual color of html yellow. Put it next to another phone. Its Gold, not yellow. Might not seem like much but when you put all the other colors in the mix... most of them are way off.
The UI is anything BUT fast. I guess coming from a rom'd captivate I am spoiled. Imagine a phone running live wallpaper without getting choppy. This phone cant do it. It cant even handle beautiful widgets animation when it rains. You are pretty bias about it really, but thats ok. Thats why its the atrix board. Im a dose of reality
So..... again, how exactly do you know that the much-to-be-pointless animated weather widget isn't being choppy on the Atrix due to a software issue regarding the widget itself? You seriously need an animation to tell you it's raining?
I'm also fairly certain i've read in another thread that it is NOT an issue with the phone itself that HSUPA is not working... that someone i believe at AT&T mentioned it is so far only working with the iPhone on THEIR end, and that it should be fixed sometime soon.
And i have no idea what monitor you are using.... not that it matters, but i don't even have the dock... just plugged the phone into our 1080p HDTV using the supplied Micro-HDMI cable (or whichever it is.... mini... micro.... never can tell anymore, really).... and it looks just fine.... and playing a standard definition video (624x352 to be exact. Possibly less-than-standard definition) which looked not really any different than if i were playing it on my computer. I haven't tried hooking it up directly to my monitor since i don't really feel like disconnecting my PS3 right now.... but if i had to guess, if you're talking about an actual PC monitor.... have you ever thought that maybe something with the monitor scaling itself is causing it to not look the way it should?
