So I decided to buy ROM Manager to support the project but have to admit I was a little disappointed. Sadly I prefer the candy coating of Sense to that of CM. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like in CM too. I just tend to like the polish of Sense. Regardless, I had thought I might have direct access to many of the ROMs I've seen throughout the forums. Apparently that's not the case. Does ROM Manager only support CM ROMs?
No worries. I know I could get a refund for the App and return it but I'm cool with it. Maybe in the future more ROMs will become available for it for the Incredible.
Rom Manager supports virtually any rom, it's just a matter of the author setting up his server to work with Rom Manager AFAIK. More will be added eventually.
The chefs have to opt in to be included in ROM manager. Moto Droid had tons of stuff to choose from and I loved it. I have yet to see anything interesting in ROM Manager for the Incredible. Urge your favorite chefs to participate!
Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully things will get more active in the future then.
ROM Manager will gain more roms in due time, there isn't really alot of roms out for the inc as it is now. Also like mentioned its up to the rom devs to put them on there. They will come.

I used to be a fan of Sense, but the fact of the matter is that it's bloated.
There are plenty of alternatives in a ROM like CM for all of the Sense features you'd miss.
Also u can download any ROM and use ROM Manager to install it. Just download rom go into rom manager and choose install from SD. Imho its easier than booting into recovery and installing. So, i. A sense it does support everything else. Its also ez to manage and restore ur backups through ROM manager. Once u use it for a while and figure it out it can b a very handy tool if u are addicted to flashing ROMS. Goodluck i hope this can b of assistance to u

Yeah the developer of ROM Manager strongly encourages all devs to submit their ROMs... Other phones such as the Moto Droid have a much larger selection... As ROM development gets further along, there will be more on ROM Manager for Incredible as well.
I think the incredible has been hurt by the lack of phones available. I don't recall the original moto droid having inventory issues like the incredible. I think this has hindered rom development and availability of different roms. Imagine if we did not have months of no incredible phones available. The popularity of the incredible might be different, thus in my mind making the demand and supply of roms more available.
I am a big fan of Cyanogen's roms so not that big of a deal for me. I know that once the drivers are released the camera will be fixed. I am wondering if we will be able to have video out with cyan's roms?
Either way - rom manager is a great program and has a lot of different functionalities and uses. Some listed below:
flashing other roms (duh)
nandroid
partition sd card
fix permissions
Let's hope that HTC releases the drivers soon

No there isnt ... there are a few similar apps that just dont quite do it and there are others that are such crapware you would be embarrassed to show your phone to anyone. Seriously when i went with a vanilla UI and tried to find alternatives to Sense widgets and apps, I found out just how crappy the apps were on this OS.

Well I'll have to half agree with you there, there are some Sense widgets that I could never find replacements for. It's really a trade off, although it would be nice if we could somehow extract some of those to be used with a 3rd party or even stock launcher
Looks like SkyRaider was added to ROM Manager

LOL! I'd like to think I may have had something to do with that. I PM'd him earlier and in short time he replied letting me know he was going to add it. Maybe he was going to do it anyway, I don't know.
Regardless, it GREAT that other cookers are starting to get in on the action. I think more people will end up trying their ROMs too. It's a win - win for everyone.

Launcher Pro is going to support that.
Sounds interesting, but it'd be nice if your battery lasts longer than 20 minutes on a full charge, unlike when you're running Sense.
Btw camera is working on cm6 for the inc supposedly. So maybe the dev of skyraider can implement the fix some how.

I think I saw something posted in ROM Manager in the Sky Raider area to fix this. Don't know the specifics or if the video is working. I plan on installing the ROM when I get some free time later.
Ok i just ordered my 8gb Samsung Galaxy S i9000 in Swisscom so im having some questions as a newbie to Android,i just "upgraded" myself from windows 6.5 to android 2.1 and im quite excited but im hoping you can answer me this;
1.Ive seen a lot of themes on the subject Iphone vs Galaxy, but would really like to know is Galaxy better?
2.Should i upgrade my stock Galaxy 2.1 Android to 2.2?
3.What apps do you recomend i get started with and are most essential
Thanx for all the answers and advice you give me,i hope i made the right choice (i shall find out in a week or so)
1. Never have got my fingers on an iphone 4 but 3GS. And yep imho sgs is better
2. Froyo(2.2) on my HTC Magic was rockin' like hell... on my SGS it was a bit laggy so i switched back to Eclair (2.1). However you should root it and install an LagFix like Voodoo
3. AppBrain to install Apps on the Phone from PC, and then everything that fits your needs
1. Its Not the question of "better". Its Android vs iOS. Android wins in my Eyes.
2. Wait for the off. 2.2 ROM from Samsung. JM8 and Voodoo is for me now the Best. Look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNEunD2Fsrg
3. Install what you Need. But AppBrain is a cool APP for App-Management.
The phone is great.
Someren me ik minor tweaks are myserver rcommendation:
-OneclickLagfix
-Apps2nand
Then your phone is and stays
the fastest handheld around.

the "Froyo" is beta, it's not official, of course it's buggy

I have the SGS Vibrant and I getta tell ya, it's an amazing phone..
You can start with RyanZa's one click app from the Market "I like AppBrain also"
the One click app has been updated and will give you Root and Lagfix. Just follow the one click directions... Once done, the phone is super fast..
Once you get up to date on the specs of the SGS and really read up on the "How To's" listed here at XDA, you can then start modding your phone for a more personal feel.
Currently I'm running a deodexed rom with an OCv4 1.2Ghz kernel update.
Their are lots of metamorph mod's to choose from and lots of rom's to fit your own personal pallet..
Good Luck and enjoy... and welcome to Android !!!!
I would get the htc desire i had it for a while then got tepmted by the hype around the galaxy s and got one, the desire is a much more mature product and works like a clock. The samsung is bugy and no where near as responsive as the desire.

but they stopped production of HTC Desires with the AMOLED displays, now the new Desires have regular boring LCD displays

just wait for it.
+1 for JM8 + voodoo and i tried about all firmwares so far.
It's the best if you want it stable and speedy.
For the apps that's mostly what I use:
xda app, engaget app (yeh lol)
fring, skype beta, msn talk (messengers)
google sky
tasker (i dont like it so much but i didnt find better for automation and app lock)
rockplayer (plays everything)
es file explorer (root file explorer, but also supports ftp/smb)
newsrob (rss)
k9 mail (supports imap push a must)
irssi conn (a must for ssh)
gameboid
adfree
Glyder 2 (game)
ping chat (like whatsapp but free)
SIP droid
lastfm
ringtone (makes your own ring tones easily from various sound sources)
titanium backup (if you switch roms around a lot especially)
have fun
Thank you for all your replies,i wanted to get the HTC but as you say it has a boring display compared to SGS
Ok so i downloaded 1000+ apps and there all waiting on my pc
I was wondering could anyone provide me with some links to apps that speed SGS up a bit so that i can transfer them from my pc to SGS and install or just tell me wich ones are the best to use on android 2.1?
Thank you again in advance
you asked the right man

Hello. I have recently acquired an HD2 that I am currently dual booting with WM6.5 and AmericanAndroid from my SD, and I absolutely love it. The question I have is this...I also have a Samsung Vibrant that I also like very well, with the Samsung Media Hub app installed on it. I have several movies that I have purchased for that app, and was wondering if it would be possible for me to install that apk onto my HD2 Android ROM. Just wondering if anyone has tried it or if there are any obvious complications I should avoid. Thanks in advance for any input.

Speed
Can you guys tell me how is the speed on the Hd2 running android compared to the vibrant? I'm planning on buying an hd2 and use android on it until wp7 gets better (in terms of features), but I'm concerned that it will be a lot slower than native android devices. I know that the vibrant uses a different soc, but if the hd2 is just a tiny bit slower or something like that, then I feel I should go for it.
Sorry for offtopic.
I can only say from my limited experience with my hd2, but lots of experience with my vibrant. The 2.3.2 rom is butter smooth and have had very few problems. As far as speed, it is at least equal to my Vibrant, if not a bit snappier. I am only going by feel as I do not put too much stock in quadrant scores. In my opinion being able to dual boot winmo also, makes this superior, at least until they end up with a stable 2.3 port to the Vibrant.
Hope this helped.

I think quadrant is useless anyway.Thank you very much for your answer!

I had a vibrant and a hd2 and i sold the vibrant last month. For me, android on hd2 is near perfect. I bet the HTC guy that decided to put Win 6.5 on the hd2 was drunk at that time.

Doesn't work. it installs and runs with no force closes but nothing within media hub loads. Clicking movie store or tv store results in a box that says "loading" but then nothing happens

Hey, thanks for the effort. No big deal. So far that's the only drawback i've found to this setup, if you could call it that. I'm really loving this phone. I don't see my Vibrant getting too much use in the future except for flashing new builds just to see how they are.

What do you expect? You can be happy when it's booting. You can feel very lucky when you can play around a bit. If you do not need to make phone calls with your phone, try it ...

as far as I can tell there is absolutely no point in honeycomb for G1
honeycomb is like gingerbread but with extra features for tablets and higher end phones
anyone porting Honeycomb to G1 is just being silly and are most probably not real developers , just winzip fail br0z
Thnx for the reply,
I wouldn't condemn anyone trying to port honeycomb onto lower end devices (I can't believe I just called the G1 a lower end device).
Anyway guys like those give guys like us (by the way am in kenya) a chance to get a taste of the real deal cz it might be a while before the zoom and it's cousins get here.
After all it did take 3 years before we could get an android device in our market.
For the developers, or whatever it is you'd like to call them, kudos

So, how did it turnout?
Super slow, the UI is not bad but that's just about it.
Nothing else works. But atleast I now know where to go to launch the apps if I ever get a honeycomb device.

Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!
What are your favorite features? (If you watched the conference)
Without source code we're basically SOL for a daily driver, but SDK ROMs are cool to check out

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

The ICS Google Music app was already leaked a couple weeks ago. Will the other updated apps (like Gmail, for example) be made available to Gingerbread users as well (either via apks or official market update)?

Without a front facing camera, facial unlocking doesn't seem practical on our device

I like the new font.
it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.
the bricked layout is nice, its not as simple as windows phones, but its a great balance between simplicity and advanced customizability.
also i believe some apks in ics will be ported for other android versions too.

Yes, most likely through market updates. Although if your willing to try you could attempt to install the apk from the system dump. I might mess something else up though, and even if it didn't I don't think the gmail widget would work.
