Hello. I have recently acquired an HD2 that I am currently dual booting with WM6.5 and AmericanAndroid from my SD, and I absolutely love it. The question I have is this...I also have a Samsung Vibrant that I also like very well, with the Samsung Media Hub app installed on it. I have several movies that I have purchased for that app, and was wondering if it would be possible for me to install that apk onto my HD2 Android ROM. Just wondering if anyone has tried it or if there are any obvious complications I should avoid. Thanks in advance for any input.

Speed
Can you guys tell me how is the speed on the Hd2 running android compared to the vibrant? I'm planning on buying an hd2 and use android on it until wp7 gets better (in terms of features), but I'm concerned that it will be a lot slower than native android devices. I know that the vibrant uses a different soc, but if the hd2 is just a tiny bit slower or something like that, then I feel I should go for it.
Sorry for offtopic.
I can only say from my limited experience with my hd2, but lots of experience with my vibrant. The 2.3.2 rom is butter smooth and have had very few problems. As far as speed, it is at least equal to my Vibrant, if not a bit snappier. I am only going by feel as I do not put too much stock in quadrant scores. In my opinion being able to dual boot winmo also, makes this superior, at least until they end up with a stable 2.3 port to the Vibrant.
Hope this helped.

I think quadrant is useless anyway.Thank you very much for your answer!

I had a vibrant and a hd2 and i sold the vibrant last month. For me, android on hd2 is near perfect. I bet the HTC guy that decided to put Win 6.5 on the hd2 was drunk at that time.

Doesn't work. it installs and runs with no force closes but nothing within media hub loads. Clicking movie store or tv store results in a box that says "loading" but then nothing happens

Hey, thanks for the effort. No big deal. So far that's the only drawback i've found to this setup, if you could call it that. I'm really loving this phone. I don't see my Vibrant getting too much use in the future except for flashing new builds just to see how they are.

to keep the hd2. i have not had the hd2 for like 2 months, has alot changed? roms? windows mobile?
whats the news on getting windows mo 7 or an android port to the HD2?
also...is there any way to make Sense like my androind sense regarding widgets, twitter etc...
thanks...i have so missed my hd2 screen size....
Whether WP7 or Android will come to HD2 is still unknown. Sure, everyone will say it's only a matter of time, but I'll be straight with you and tell you it's as good as a 50/50 chance.
Having said that, it's a phone. Keep it or sell it. It's your call.

Did you install cookies home tab and editor? If not, you should try that. makes as many quick links as you want. Very Android/Iphonish. Works awesome... Also the new ROM with the Zim touch sensitivity fix makes it pretty rad.
If you want a real man's phone get the HD2...lolol
All joke's aside, it's really a matter of personal opinion: the HD2 uses WinMo, and with the latest ROM versions out there things run pretty smooth.
But if you want Android, then keep the Nexus. In the end, the basic features are the same, it's all about what feels right for you. (God I sound like a hippie...jk lol.)

Very true...i have had lock ups also...
I am going to try the latest energy rom now. any tweaks that you would recommend i must do right after?
also..how can i get the original white flip clock with weather on that rom???
From my Personal Experience, i had a nexus one Which i sold and later bought the HD2, i have applied almost every rom available and text messaging lags a lot, also Stock rom is too slow and other roms are smooth and fast but out of the nowhere freeze and give me major problems.
it has better hardware than the nexus but to tel you the thruth, the nexus one with stock everything is so much faster than the HD2, all i can say is try it for yourself, im however swicthing back to the nexus or mytouch slide, because even my g1 was a lot faster than this phone with much less hardware, and i am not joking neither do i mean to say windows mobile sucks, but it is just for me.
if i get flamed, too bad!

get the Nexus. I traded my HD2 for one and love it.
Android is so much faster and is so much easier to use than WinMo.
That being said, if you need it for business, go with the HD2.
I had a Nexus 1 for 2 months then sold it and bought my HD2, I love them both, the Nexus 1 is more like an iPhone as far as user friendly. Win Mobile is harder to set up and change but much more powerful. I've contemplated getting another Nexus 1 but the HD2 hardware is so damn sweet, I think I'm staying with the HD2 now and waiting for the HD3 or something else.

the android kitchen can port roms from one device to another. i've messed with it on occasion and just doing the basic port process generally results in the rom loading, but a lot of things not working (bluetooth, wifi, camera, etc).
its a good place to start, though.

True but mine has about 20 min of use right now, and I have trust issues on the net.
Well IMO if you have trust issues then stay away from windows mobile. I just upgraded a month back from a windows mobile phone. Interface worked decent but not only was it restrictive it what it allowed me to do it didn't like me to tinker and customize it the way it worked. At least with the android based phone I can see the inner working, understand how and what is going on. And I can disallow whatever I feel isn't good for me.

Its difficult, with winmo we could shutdown winmo with a app and load a os into the phone through the SD card but still there was alot of compatability issues. I'm assuming its going to be the same the other way. Camera will never work or radio ect..

Probably has to do with the fact that you'd be moving out of the grey area of rom flashing and firmly into pirating since you never attained a winmo license.
Which would also mean most sites wont allow it since your work becomes a liability.

its not pirating really, if so then my tilt2 had pirated software on it, i had htc sense (winmo6.5) ported from the hd2 to it plus i dual booted android 2.1 and had a full fledged linux on at some point
the real problem is the reverse engineering which no one wants to do, and i dont speak for all people but for alot of people winmo is become less than useful not saying it sucks because i loved my tilt2 but it had its limitations that my aria doesnt

That version of Sense you had was reverse engineered to a certain point. I can bet you if you took the cab straight from the hd2 and installed it on the Tilt, it either wouldn't install ir would be very, very buggy.
And as i said, doing this would move you out of that gray area. One could make an argument that you've paid for a license for WinMo and Sense and by flashing these new ROMs you're just updating. You can argue the other side, but thats why its called a gray area.
Android in its most basic form is FOSS. Google's apps aren't, but the OS itself is. You can legally install it on whatever you can get it to run on. To be fair, i don't know how they handle distributing it.
Windows Mobile on the other hand is licensed. You HAVE to pay for a new license otherwise you're pirating the os.

Your right and I'm not trying to be an ass
But to break that license you would hafta sell the software modified. They finally passed a law stating basically if its given to the open public it can be modified all u want untilled is sold then its illegal. The one good thing apple brought upon us
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Not exactly. I think its if you distribute it, not just selling it. From Engadget:
Basically, they just can't sue you for the specific act of breaking their protections but there's nothing stopping them from putting those protections in there in the first place, or for suing you for an infringement not covered in this exception -- like distributing Apple code in a non- Apple-approved way, or installing illegal or pirated software.

i realize this shouldnt be much of a problem to port
the only problem is probably the bootloader and recovery mode are for different OS's but otherwise these phones are almost exactly the same
although i have no idea how to port anything
Not to annoy anybody, but is there somebody even trying to port Android from the Aria to the Mini at this moment? Or is this a real dead one...?
Since the hardware is almost exactly the same, the only major thing should be a safe way to flash from WinMo to Android, or am I wrong?
Guys, are there any developers around here that can give an indication of how hard it is to port an Aria Android Rom onto the HD Mini? Could it be possible that just putting the Aria Rom on a HD Mini will give a 90% working phone (trackpad/screen/windows button are the only differences as far as i know)?

So I've been using my hd2 for about 2 months now and I hate windows so I've been trying out all the android builds which I love. I'm currently using darkstone froyostone w/o sense and before this I was running his other build froyohd2..and since I'm running chuckydroidrom I don't even see windows anymore. But today I went into tmobile and I saw the vibrant and its absolutely beautiul.. very fast and android is native. So I need some input.. what do you guys think? Any pros and cons for both phones any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I have both and constantly find myself switching up.i like the vibrant for the screen clarity but the I like the hd2 for the screen size but I think once android is completely stable for the hd2 and is able to be flashed on nand it will be my daily phone and I'll probably wind up selling the vibrant.so I say keep the hd2 and wait just a little longer for a good android build

I had my HD2 for about two weeks. I tried a few android builds, and they mostly worked, but there were little quirks about them that bugged me. One didnt have bluetooth, one only seemed to work with a specific radio, etc...
I really liked the big screen of the HD2, and the metal back made it feel really sturdy, but I native android beat out that.
I like my vibrant. The back feels a little slick, but its also lighter. While the screen on the HD2 was bigger, I dont miss it much.
I'm sure as time goes on android for the HD2 will get better, so it's really a matter of if you want to wait or not.
Damn idk ill prolly just wait it out and see how far android could go on my hd2

yeah im running froyostone with sense but using launcherpro with beautiful widgets.. its running great except for the fact that u cant touch on the screen freezes and i get ocassional dark blank screens
Wait it out with the HD2.
If you really want to abandon the HD2, rumors speculate an HTC Android phone equipped with a dual-core processor heading to T-Mobile in Q4. If anything, wait for that, rather than getting the Galaxy S [now].

Also you have to give the devs a little more time with android on hd 2...they are almost there the hd2 will be worth it in the long run until somwthing much better will come out in a couple of months...

Is there's a Windows 7 ROM for the MT4G (or other Android phones). Not sure how difficult the coding would be to do or if anyone's even interested in doing one. From the quick scan I just had, I found nothing in the Development section.

I think it's possible because it's virtuously the same hardware that most W7 phone's work on.
But it will never happen because I can't imagine anyone taking their time to port over a W7 ROM. Would be too time consuming since there wouldn't be a demand for it.
But it would be kinda cool to play around with for an hour though.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess there really isn't a demand so no one's going to go through all the hassle to do it.
I just started looking into the Windows Phone platform once Mango was announced over the summer and they look like they got something good happening.
I primarily like the fact that:
1) has a very clean look to it (apps have a very consistent look, even 3rd party ones on the app store)
2) update straight from Microsoft rather than OEMs or carriers (I guess that's also thanks to the "strict" hardware requirement Microsoft has set for OEMs, so software wise, all phones can get updates at the same time, unlike Android's fragmentation)
3) very snappy and not very demanding on hardware
4) simple, but different from iPhone's style
But then again...I'll most likely miss flashing ROMs if I ever do migrate over (however, I think I can live with it if everything's super snappy and there's enough app support for the OS). And really sucks that there's not a lot of WP7 selection for AWS and no tethering yet for the OS.
I'm trying out the Launcher 7 right now, but because it's running as a launcher and Sense is still running in the background, it's killing my battery lol.
I'd love to test a wp 7 ROM or atleast a hybrid version with Android.
From my fist to your face, enjoy!
I am sitting next to a girl right now in my class with a windows phone running Mango
It's pretty snappy but loads apps that aren't stock apps slower then shz.

WM 7 is not open source. To get a working port would be a guessing game and super not worth it, not a DD. That's the reason you don't see honeycomb ports to other devices either like the nook color. It was never open sourced. Windows is not going in the open source direction either

Im curious as to the performance of NAND on the HTC HD2 . Can you play games such as the regular angry birds ? Does it have troubles with animations ? Im currently on a Sprint TP2 running Android (NAND) and i like it a lot . with the exception of the week processor compared to that of the HD2 . Also , im having troubles keeping WiFi on during phone sleep even with the Sleep policy set to "Never" under advanced WiFi settings . Does that setting work for you guys running NAND android on the HD2 ? I'm debating if i want to buy the HD2 and fully run android or if i want to just go ahead and buy a Samsung Galaxy S despite its a lot more than HD2 (on ebay) my most likely choice is buying a broke one and fixing it .
Thanks for your time guys !
HTC hd2 will blow you away. Its awesome honestly. Everything works very quickly and there are tons of options for hd2.

From my readings and from the YouTube videos thats what seems to be true ! but i always love to hear it direct from an end-user experience . Are there any troubles with stability in the Android NAND builds ? plus is Overclocking possible with the NAND builds ? thanks for the response !
Some roms are more stable than others. That's the case with every phone. I have been an android nand user for almost a year and its awesome. We also had one of the first ice ports and this phone is right at two years old! Overclocking is possible but I've never tried it. My phone is fast enough for me

If you use a rom such as Hyperdroid with the HD2, like said above, you will be blown away. The HD2 is fast, stable, and pretty much all working feature-wise.
The HD2 is a phone that I would still recommend to people, as it still keeps up with other competing phones.
Hope I could be of help.

Which ROM's would you recommend for Extreme speed and stability while still retaining the latest and greatest features of android , like Gingerbread and later ROMs.

Is this true !? wouldnt expect that !! plus i think 5MP camera is good enough lol . video is something a lot of people hardly use on their cell phones , no matter the quality , the only way to get a good video is by using optical zoom . and phones wont have that due to keeping it slim

Comparing quality of Galaxy with quality of Leo confrims that. Not to mention posibilty to install even xp on leo .
A recommended rom that is highly efficient in my opinion is Hyperdroid. I've been using this rom for over a year now and it has never failed me before. It is fast, stable, and efficient.
If your interested, I'll post a direct link to the rom here.
Once again, hope I could be of help.

Slapped ya some thanks
I also advise to use Hyperdroid ROM which is excellent in stability, speed and battery life. I use it since three monts and I am very satisfied with it. The only minus point by this rom is its font size selection and theme. But you change the dpi font size and have theme choser for that.

THANKS for your input im pretty convinced just by looking at the thread ! It looks wicked cant wait to get a job and buy my HD2 now xD i'll most likely flash a bunch of builds just to test drive them . but Hyperdroid will be my first to set a baseline for the rest . thanks again guys !
Look at this thread. It is useful to read before you look at the Rom threads.
