Official Froyo for Galaxy S Delayed till END of October! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi Everyone,
Just thought you should know:
http://zomgitscj.com/2010/10/01/samsung-galaxy-s-froyo-update-delayed/
It seems the update has indeed been delayed by a couple of weeks.
Hopefully, this means they're actually working on getting it right this time!

JIT and all. Haha. I hope so but I doubt it.

This is old news. and this article you found does not speak for the everyone.

Thread moved to proper section (General), and closed, as this has already been discussed at length in other threads.

Official consumer Froyo release....

Okay, so the consumer version of Froyo hasn't been released just yet..... it's been a whole week and I am again getting anxious- wonder what tweaks and fixes we may see once it arrives. So, I keep checking for 'updates'.
Anyone yet?
Google Staff have just gone home for the weekend. So now is about the perfect time for another froyocrack I reckon. Two days before they can put the fires out again.

Actually, 3 days, since Monday is a national holiday in the US.
What's "wrong with us people" is that the the title is incredibly misleading and once the post is read, leads to an overwhelming sense of disappointment. I must agree with the first reply.
Nothing against the author, just a loud USE MORE DESCRIPTIVE THREAD TITLES. Thanks.
@OP:
In the future, please use an title that indicates the topic of the thread in the future; we have enough on to do at this time than cleanup threads for inappropriate language.
To those who chose to report the thread instead of further aggravating the situation; thank you.

The missed call issue.

I'm having major missed call issues and was wondering how many people are having the same issue?
Also has anyone contacted Verizon about this issue? If so, what did they do about it?

From lurking around i've seen that a lot of people are having this problem, regardless of rom/kernel/baseband etc... I myself have this missed call 'bug' and as of right now I don't believe there's anything we can do to fix it yet. As for telling VZ, yes they know about it and many people have complained, although they wont do much besides offer you a replacement Fascinate or a "comparable" phone (read: Droid X). If you're lucky you can smooth talk or berate them into giving you MAYBE a Droid X2 or Incredible 2.

I have posted this in another forum thread about missing calls on the Fascinate, and I wanted to update this one as well with the updated information. This software release will address multiple issue including text messaging issues. Here's what I posted in some other threads:
I have been keeping track of this issue, and I have some news for those having the issue.
This has been escalated to the manufacturer. They rigorously tested and researched this specific issue. Samsung has developed a confirmed fix for the phones not ringing as of 06/30/11. We are working with them to finalize the fix and deliver it to the phones. I really wish I had an ETA to give everyone, but we don't have one yet. I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.
Historically, these fixes have been pushed or updated via a software update. Here's a link to the Samsung Fascinate software update page in case we push this fix in a similar fashion. This page will update when we get very close to delivering the update if done via OTA software update.
Thanks again for everyone's feedback and patience.
Edited Note: I have also removed the resolution for this post. Perhaps once the software updates are launched, tested, and confirmed by multiple users as resolving the issue, then we can mark this as solved. Our goal is to fix issues, not just see the a green check mark on the page to make everyone feel better. I apologize about that, and I agree it was completely marked in error.

ooo, Sorry my bad, I didn't see that one before...mods please lick.

XJ's MIUI - possible answer to launcher FC

(TL;DR note - 3rd paragraph has the findings)
hello all, ive never posted before on this forum before (been a member since i bought my LG Optimus GT540 though), and since im under the 10 post limit i cannot post this in the relevant thread (i.e. the development thread).
ive been using both mssmision and xavierjohn22's versions of MIUI since it became the official miui.us version (for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224147). the launcher FC bug really became annoying, to the point that i went back to CM7 because of that bug, and the fact that the updates stopped. i flashed the newest version yesterday in the hopes that it may be fixed, but to my dismay it still does it.
so i decided to fiddle around a bit, and made a discovery. if anything is placed in the 5th row, and you install/uninstall a program, the launcher will FC, if nothing is in any of those rows, then it will not FC. now, im not exactly an expert in this topic at all, but could it have something to do with MIUI's launcher not being able to handle the fact that its not 4x4 as it was intended?
either way, i hope that this is seen by the relevant people and may have been some help. i would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in getting MIUI to the galaxy tab, and all the developers for the galaxy tab for their wonderful work. thank you all!

that is true, its not a question. although it is kinda development related. considering its a bug in a rom currently being developed.
even so, sorry for posting in the wrong section, and thank you for moving it.

If you had modified the MIUILauncher.apk to stop crashing when something is placed in the 5th row, that would be considered development.
You have just given a tip, whilst still highly appreciated, its not development.

sorry for any misunderstanding on my behalf, i never intended to cause any problems, just offer my tip which may help make xavierjohn22's MIUI build become stabler. i have personally wanted an android device with MIUI ever since i first saw it in action on youtube. as i said in my first post, if it wasn't for the 10 post limit (which i am sure is there for all the right reasons) then i would have posted a reply in the original thread in the development section where i hoped it would be seen by xavierjohn22. above all, truly sorry about causing any problems.
on another note, 212 views on this thread and no other replies? has anyone else who is running this ROM had a chance to try this out and see if it helps them? or has anyone disproved it? any feedback would be appreciated, or if anyone could post it in the original thread and point it out to xavierjohn22 that would be appreciated to.
thank you anyway!

No need to apologise, mistakes do happen
Have you tried PM'ing xavierjohn22 with this?
no i havent, i just assumed his pm's would be turned off as most developers seem to get hit with heaps of pm's every day and eventually turn them off. that is a great suggestion, i will give it a shot, thank you!
edit: just sent a pm to xavierjohn22 with details, thank you for your help andyharney!

Look behind you, it might be already there.
can you give me a date?
and I just read that there isn't an option to use the device as a disk drive, is it true?
It will be pushed out on 11.01.2012 but this is very confidential information, please don't tell anybody!
can someone serious answer me please?
Nobody knows. You'll just have to wait like the rest of us.
No one knows.

You're in the wrong place, pal. If you really want an answer, you'll have to find a connection within Motorola... if they even have a hard date set. If you want to be taken seriously, take time to search and read before posting a question. You'd find dozens of threads on the topic in the xoom forums alone (unfortunately, since others choose not to searrch, too) and you'd quickly learn there is no answer to your question here.
You can have ICS on your xoom today if you want it, just not from Moto. Again, do some reading and research and you can determine whether available alternatives are right for you, or whether to wait for a not-yet-announced official update.
Nearly everyone here is helpful and will assist if you do your homework and still have questions... but you have to take yourself and your own questions seriously before you can expect anyone else to do so... or you can choose to be roasted.

first of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to write your answer.
I did searched(not in XDA, I searched on google) for the answer and found a lot of articles about the XOOM getting the ICS update but they all were very old so I thought that maybe Motorola released a date for the update and I didn't found an answer for that so I decided to ask here.

The problem is, and always will be - you can never set a solid release date for software upgrades when it comes to this 'chain' that the update must go through in order to be released to us.
From a manufacturer and carrier standpoint, they could never give even the slightest hint of a date for a software release until its imminently close. Reason being, there are so many variables and factors affecting a particular update. If they gave any sort of date other than "soon", then if they missed that date that everyone was expecting - customers would blow a gasket.
So essentially, from their standpoint, it is MUCH safer to keep from giving any sort of date of release.
Bottom Line: An official ICS update should be coming sometime soon. Speculation says the U.S. Wifi-only XOOM will be the first, and then others will soon follow. That is the most we know at this point.
So pull up a chair, grab a beer, and join the rest of us as we compulsively surf these android forums every day for the next piece of news to come forward.

I had some good guidance (some nice, some not so nice) when I first started using xda, so glad to pass it along. The best was not to start a new thread except as a last resort - most questions are already asked and answered somewhere, and if not there is a likely an existing thread/discussion in which the question fits. For the most part, xda members aren't jerks and are extremely helpful... but the frustration factor rises quickly when the same questions are asked and answered repeatedly. As you'll probably be told at some time, it is a developers forum not really a users forum... they've just chosen to let us in (because we help test what they're dev'ing).
One more suggestion - be more careful with your topic titles. I opened the thread to read assuming you were posting some official announcement... and would bet most others did, too. Be more clear with the title and you increase the odds that you'll get readers that can/will help.
BTW, I'm still getting used to the xda search function (a bit cumbersome, works best in my opinion searching within a subforum), and often prefer a Google search myself. If you add "xda" to your Google search terms, you'll often find what you need.

I understand your concern, the more they wait the less we can play with our toy until that other date (ya know, 23/12/2012)
I'll give you a real answer. No body knows.
It seems like the last few updates were dropped with no prior warning. I assume ICS will be a different situation and they would at least give a little heads up (or so I would hope.) If you have a 4G VZW XOOM, expect to wait another month so Verizon can tinker around with it first.
Or, if you want it now, just go to the dev section and flash the wonderful EOS ROM. It takes all of 15 minutes to do if you're already rooted. In fact, I spent more time downloading the files than I did actually flashing the recovery and the ROM + a few bits and pieces that make it work. It's well worth it.
Hope this answers your question.
After getting dragged along month-to-month waiting for an official Android update with previous devices, I've come to the personal conclusion that I'll never wait for an official Android update ever again. The custom ROMs from these forums are always better and are always available far in advance of any official release.
You may want to give this a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400958&page=82
Team EOS (formerly Team Tiamat) has proved to be one of the elite Android dev teams in my opinion and are worth following because they always have something new to try out.
Typically, the update will come in waves and there will be a leak to the blogs a few days before...
Kudos to the people who took the OP and his question seriously. There's no justification for being a d*** to someone who probably isn't familiar with all of the ins and outs of XDA. Come on now...
Anyway, you can watch paint dry in way less time than a carrier or OEM will deliver an official Android version update to their devices (assuming you're using something other than a Nexus device) so custom ROMs are definitely the way to go. It is not uncommon for devs here to release official ROMs before the carriers/OEMs LOL! To that end, check out one of the ICS ROMs from Team EOS in the Xoom development section. Root your Xoom if you haven't done so already, flash one of their ICS ROMs and enjoy . The devs here on XDA are good for releasing ROMs and updates in a timely manner.

Some of the Note 4 moderators need to chill.

Please understand, this is not aimed at all mode here... Just a couple that are taking the fun out it, or are just bored. You have the power, and most often are right! But I am seeing a few over using their powers here.
I see the Verizon note 4 forums dying very quickly. Someone starts a thread about getting a new Note 4 and it gets locked because it's irrelevant..? I see someone start a thread about sprint getting lollipop, showing its coming, and it gets locked because there is a dead lollipop thread from 2 months ago that already has mentioned. But the mod is wrong... The newest lollipop thread is about sprint getting it first in the states and obviously trying to get the Vzw Note forums going again. No harm in that at all.
I am seeing these type of actions a lot in this forum by mods.
Instead the mods allow threads that state goodbye Note 4 hello Nexus 6 and others that are negative and useful to this forum.
Give it to me guys. I bet this thread gets locked and deleted immediately. I am sorry for this, I'm just upset at the over moderating...
closing as this is a duplicate of this rad thread:
