No, this is not a one time thing, and I'm not talking about internet passwords.
My HD2 is literally forgetting my unlock code.
Background: This happens roughly once a month. There's been no consistencies with the problem (different ROMs, even). What happens is, I will turn on my device (or soft reset), and when the lock screen appears, it will repeatedly tell me my password is incorrect. After a while, it will stop telling me my password is incorrect, and simply do nothing when I click the unlock button.
Soft-reset, pulling the battery, removing the SIM, etc, does not help. Every boot after the boot it forgets my password gives me the same results.
My password has been the same all three times this has happened, and the only way around it is a hard reset. I'm trying to find a solution to this, as it is very aggravating to keep losing all my data.
If you have any questions, let me know. And thanks for your help!
it used to happen to me too....so stopped using the password thingy. try pocketshield its an excellent alternative.
i remember reading in several similar posts that (some versions of) swype are known to cause this issue. i believe the safest way to install swype, if you are so inclined, is to install it FIRST, and THEN set up your PIN.
still, if you are not using swype, your issue does sound like the weirdest of the bunch!

Nope, I don't even have Swype installed...
What's weird is, it's not after installing anything. The phone will literally work for days, and then after a soft reset, locks me out.
Checking out Pocketshield, looks like it might be a better solution.
Update
Found this, but I haven't tried it to see if it's the same problem as mine:

This is really weird: some 4 weeks ago it happened that my phone passoword on my first HD2 self-changed , after battery went very low...Initially I though my daughter intercepted my pwd and changed, but this cannot be, since too young (6 y.o.) and she never playd with it...I used a four digit phone password: 1357
A message says: " the password you typed is incorrect" and prompt me to re-enter
I had to hard reset...
2.
some 3-4 days ago, my second HD2 went under the same issue: while battery was low (under 8%) I changed the battery with a fresh one. Then the password -self changed!
I did a hard reset
Details of both my HD2s:

(which is really fast and good, by the way)

Now few minutes ago, after I installed swype keyboard cab, my third phone (a HD phone, NOT HD2) auto-changed its password!
Same problem
Questions:
1. Am I running crazy or is this a known issue?
2. Is there a Virus which is known to cause such an effect, on WM phones?
Currently I do not use any AV on my Phones. I use kaspersky 9.x on my laptop

one more detail: now my HD is NOT accessible anymore...so I am trying to type different pwds: the result is that sometimes the phone is silent (the message "the password you typed is incorrect" does not appear).
Some other times a new message asks to input this sequence: a1b2c3, before I am enabled to re-enter my lost pwd...
Please help...
Saulo
For the first 2 I don't know, did you properly turn the phone off before removing battery, or did you just take it out without a ful shutdown?
About the 3rd one, which Swype version have you used? see this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639901&highlight=swype
well, in the case of HD (NOT HD2), the issue just happened few minutes ago: battery was 40%. I simply installed swype 3.9. Then the software asked for restart.
I did it (Software restart)
Then the password changed on its own...I am really scared of this phenomena, which I never had during last 8 years of using Windows Mobile phones...all this nightmare started 4 weeks ago.
Thanks and waiting for your feedback

Did you read the link in the above answer from kilrah? Swype 3.9 causes it.
Yes Samuel.

There is a cure: MTTY your phone and flash a ROM that has Swype 3.9 included. No problem.
Quite a few great ROMs do, including both variants of OzROM. I'm using one myself, and Swype 3.9 works flawlessly on it.
Dear Donald
Thas for your advice1
MTTY: I have read and it looks rather complicated...if I flash with a Stock ROM (like 1.48) and then with a cooked ROM which includes SWYPE will it be the same?
besides: Why do I need MTTY, since except this pwd auto-change issue I am experiencing no other flaws?
Thanks and waiting for your suggestions

There are many reports of HD2s suddenly "forget" the password in this Forum but the actual cause(s) is still unknown. Some said it's bcoz of Swype, whereas for me it happened after resetting for a registry tweak but pretty sure that it's a bug/problem related to the WinMo phone lock. Now I've switched to S2U2 lock which works fine so far (still with Swype in my HD2).
Dear Byron
1.
Thanks for your insight: can you expand your feedback on S2U2? I would like to hear from you, before switching from default device LOCK 4 digit password (which would be more than enough for me) to this new utility.
2.
In my case HD2 DID NOT forget! If so the device would be unlocked. No, the device CHANGED the device lock code! Terrible. I needed to perfomr a hard reset in order to access my phone again, thus I was luck I had done a backup few days ago. I only lost 3 days of new contacts and SMS/emails.
Thank you and waiting
Saulo
To me this is not new. To provide a slightly different perspective, my previous phone to this was the ETEN M700 phone (under WinMo 6.1). That Windows lock-password change occasionally disappears when I either swap batteries or soft-reset the phone.
No surprises to hear that it might happen in HTC HD2, which is why I'm wary of installing a Windows lock password to it.
I've just had it happen to me.
In my case I am using ozrom with swype cooked in.
Interesting I noticed something extra that hasn't been mentioned.
I powered my phone off properly last night and when I switched it on in the morning the first thing that came up was an activesync prompt asking me to enter my new activesync password.
The password on the domain that I sync with hasn't changed. Upon attempting to enter the domain password, the normal phone lock comes up and simply won't accept any passwords - even after the a1b2c3 prompt.
So to me it looks like its not just loosing the phone password but something in the password store is being completely corrupted and only a hard reset and setting everything up again clears it :/
Gah!
It happened again! I was just tweaking the last few settings and the phone wanted a soft reboot. When it came back it wouldn't accept my pin
This time swype was not enabled. Installed, yes. Enabled, no!
I had an O2 XDA (Orbit II I think) before this and never had a single problem with the lock. Then again I never flashed it with a cooked rom...
I resolved by disabling the windows default lock and using S2U2...very good applications, but not really a full locking application.
Thank you
Saulo
I'm using S2U2 at the moment. It hasn't solved the phone losing its passwords (it lost the ActiveSync password when I turned it on this morning).
It does mean that I don't have to hard reset it when it does loose the password though.
I have also noticed that S2U2 doesn't stop the phone from being accidentally turned off by the power button being held down whilst its in my pocket though.

Has anyone had problems with swype 3.9 if the phone is not locked with a PIN?
I have seen reports with passwords for email accounts being lost, and the pin for locking the phone being changed. But I have not seen anyone having problems if they did not lock the phone...

It is important to point out that in my case swype was cooked into the rom and installed, but not enabled. I have not actually used swype.
What I have now done is used mtty before reflashing the phone and the phone has now been stable since I did it on Saturday..fingers crossed as I had done everything else before including a hard reset after flashing the phone.
Edit:
i do not have swype nor did i ever have it installed. I have only tweaked my phone through the registry and never had a problem. MY phone has run down passed critical multiple times and never had a problem until i did a battery pull today without shutting down the phone. It has been downhill from there
End Edit
Has anyone solved this problem yet?
If not, if i reset my phone what will i lose?
Also this seems pretty scary; so how can i lock someone out the phone without locking myself out? I dont want a silly slidelock that doesnt secure my device from unauthorized personnel.
Thanks in advance
the password reset is the same for he TP2/Tilt2's. i had to bootload and reflash to fix the problem
Im using a HD2. Soooo.... I woke up this morning to a dead battery. No problem since i didnt charge my phone b4 i went to sleep. So i turn my phone on an plug it into the charger. I wait for everything to load and then i put my 4digit password in and what happens? "Password Incorrect".... So i enter it several more times until It goes to the "a1b2c3" screen. I returned my last hd2 because of this same problem. So the 2 questions im asking are Can i lock my phone without this happening again and have anyone else experienced the same thing?

Just curious are you using the Swype Keyboard, or did you install a diff version of Swype ... Have seen other posts about people not being able to Unlock their phone and it was Swype related ...
Just thought I would mention it ....
yeaa it happens sometimes as it happened with me too...just dont use it as there are several other options which are much much more reliable, two that i have used myself with no problems are "s2u2" and "throttlelock"...i suggest you use either of these locks instead of the stock lock. Sadly you will have to format your phone using the hardware buttons but i forgot how to do it...sorry...
This happened to me also. Only way around it was to hard reset the device. I didn't have Swype or any other SIP installed.
switch to other phone lock
I think it's a known issue with the stock WinMo phone lock, which tends to "forget" your password randomly. I experienced it twice. Disable it and use other phone lock apps like S2U2 as suggested by rickssj4 above. It never happened again.
This is confusing!
I just carried out a soft reset on my device, carried out the same way I always soft reset my device. But after tapping in my lock code, keep getting message stating the code is incorrect.
This has baffled me, as I haven't even installed any new Apps, or carried out any new tweaks. It's as if the PHONE has changed the lock code after doing A SOFT RESET!
This happened to anyone else?
usually associated with installing swype 3.9 on a non tmous phone, although i also half remember similar behavour with exchange (not sure of this bit though)
oh, did you change the lockscreen in cookies? it gives a warning about not using passwords when messing with cookies lockscreen settings.
I haven't even installed any new Apps, or carried out any new tweaks.

i mentioned this above...
I may be wrong, but I clearly remember that soon after the discussion in here became lively since more people started to own the device, this problem has been reported several times even on pristine phones, where the phone would not simply change the code, but forget it altogether :-/
That's why I've never enabled it even if it would be a useful feature.

I never forget my code, as I use the same code as I always have done. So im still baffled about this
this happened to me on my omnia like two years ago. just a little soft reset and i had to hard reset to be able to use my phone again. i had to get all my contacts and data back manually and this was the time i figured why are there so many backup programs for winmo.... didn't know anything about this OS before..
now i just use sim PIN, never had trouble..
Luckily I got SPB backup installed, and have it set to do automatic backup every monday morning @ 3am, but still wondering why the phone lock code.changed simply by doing a soft reset :-/

I've had this happen a couple of times. The best I can come up with is something must write to the code's area whilst the phone is on. Like a buffer overflow... I had it happen on the stock ROM, and also on a custom ROM, but it hasn't happened recently... (I'm now on a recent 23xxx Energy ROM).
Hey people,
This is an odd one for me. I'm finding that periodically, and I'm not even sure how often, my keyboard seems to get (the only way I can describe it) sticky. So when I'm tap tap tapping through a message, I'll notice that some keys will start displaying the character that occurs when you long press the base character. So on the Google keyboard which I'm using at the moment, if I try to tap "QWERTYUIOP" for example, sometimes I may get "QW3TY7OP" because the "E" acted as if I was doing a long press, and by the time I was tapping "R" it was entering "3" before catching up. Etc.
This also seems to happen on other keyboards I have tried for long enough. I say "long enough" because it probably takes weeks from it's last restart to do this. And when it's doing it, it's not constant. It's not enough to make me throw the phone through a window. It just happens for a bit, then goes. It will happen more and more if I don't reboot the phone, but it's a very gradual process.
Other tap targets, icons and widgets, never seem to act like I'm long pressing during periods when this is happening with the keyboard. I think I had seen this on my Nexus 5 but had assumed it was they Swype keyboard as other people had been having some problems too.
Any ideas???
do you ever restart your device?
I use the SwiftKey keyboard.
As soulfly3 asked 'do you ever restart your device?'
I find that if I leave the app running for long periods of time with a lot of typing it will start to lag and/or stick as you call it. I have fixed this a few times just by closing the SwiftKey app and restarting it, but I normally go for a full restart of the device as I have no idea how many other apps have been open for too long. Plus it's generally a good idea to give your battery a rest every once in a while
I do reboot the device, but not because of the keyboard. I don't often have much cause to reboot unless I'm updating, flashing stock images, rooting, or something similar. So by that nature, the phone is rebooted at least once a month (to apply monthly security updates from Google).
once a month!? jesus.
Longest Ive gone without rebooting is 2 days. Do I need to do it? No. But Ill tell you what.... I dont get any of the issues those most report, and im certain it's because of this.
honestly, for something that takes 10seconds to do, I dont know why everyone doesnt do it. really flushes out those bugs many complain of

On the other side, it's arguable that if you have a device that needs to be rebooted or refreshed every two days, it's broken.

I have the same issue, I do believe it started after the 6.0.1 upgrade. Occurs regardless of reboots. It is pretty annoying.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Same issue
I've got exactly the same issue and have tried custom keyboards, ROMs and kernels to no avail!
I've seen google asking for people to try safemode but who can run their phone in safemode for a week waiting for it to happen!
Same here. I'm sad to see that there's no fix other than a reboot.
this!! it happens to me every day.. very frustrating!!
tried a couple of keyboards.. same...
i restart daily so its not the issue..
i saw in some page it can be the vibrating function... (try disabling it and see if this dissapears ) i just did but i dont know if it will happen as i just did
A friend gave me this phone saying it was not working properly and he already bought a new phone, I factory reset the phone and it seems fine. But he left the phone in the devices list on his google account, and asked me, as a challenge, to bypass the frp... I've bypassed 4 frp's before, including one that was not documented at all, but I got stuck on this one. Limited settings are the only barrier between me and success. Thanks in advance!
erase frp partition (oem misc fota?) do backup of the partition beforehand!

Is there any way I could do this easier? I don't even know where to look right now

nope, I solved it. You have to bug out the wifi by pressing next and then immediately turning off wifi, set a pattern, restart and fail inputting the pattern 30 times (took like 20 minutes for some reason), resetting the phone, and now it will ask for the pattern after connecting to a network, input the pattern and bam, phone unlocked. Nice

What kind of mental disorder is capable to reveal such trick?
What do you mean? I accidentally got the wrong pattern and it told me that there are 29 tried left until it reset, and I remembered that, in a few old bypass vids on YouTube, they had a pattern lock after a reset... That meant that if this worked, I could use the pattern I set to unlock the phone. And maybe you said that as a joke, but at least now you know how I got to this solution.
And the wifi bug? A random old frp bypass for an older version of the G6
