Not seeing new .APK - XPERIA X10 General

Hello All,
I have just discover that my X10a could no longer seeing any new .APK file that I put into the SD card. I have tried to used different type of installer (appinstaller, ASTRO) and still could not see the newly downloaded .APK on the SD card.
Anyone run into this issue and have a solution for this?

Did you check the "settings" > "programs" > "unknown sources" ?

Thanks for the quick response.
Problem solved by moving the .apk to a different directory.

DiskCacheIndex.Tmp files?

I have noticed that I am getting a lot of DiskCacheIndex.Tmp files on my SD Card when I use Android which is almost all the time instead of WM. I delete these files manually. I did a search on this and really found no answers other than they are temp files. So looking for something definitive.
1. What are these files?
2. Any apk to delete them automatically?
Thanks!
I would like to know as well
GScript Light
Try to write a Gscript. Download this app in the market. Save the script. Now you can run it every time without deleting those files manually.
There should be enough examples for doin that on google
Cheers
In Gscript write a scrip named "Delete DiskCacheIndex" (or whatever)
cd /mnt/sdcard
rm DiskCacheIndex*
ls

There is a program for automatically removal of these files. Check for "Junk Killer" on market.

Hide / Rename Apps from App Drawer?

Hi Guys,
There are certain apps that I would like to hide from the App Drawer in my Tab since my friends are literally all over the tab and snooping around in my messages or photos or even password protection apps. Could you tell me of any possibility of Hiding apps from the App drawer or probably RENAMING them to a less catchy title?
Your help is much appreciated,
cheers!
There's only two ways of doing this.....
1. Route your phone and then using a Root Explorer rename the App.
2. Use an alternative Home App.
If you use Launcher Pro one of the options it has is to hide Apps from the App Drawer.
You would have to go back through the menu to un-hide them but it might work for you.
Launcher Pro
Menu>Preferences>General>Hide Apps
Btw, you have ****ty friends...

Beards,
Thanks for the reply. Now, i have rooted my tab and currently on Roto JMI v2. I have installed root explorer. Could you please guide me how to change the name from within ROOT EXPLORER. I mean, the directory / path of the apps? I tried myself but no luck
Cheers & Much Appreciated!
You should be able to simply mount the system/app folder and rename the App in question.
Can you confirm you have done a reboot.
If so Root Explorer should work as normal.

I have done a reboot, and can see various files in the root explorer along with the option to mount. But I am unable to see the apps that I have installed from the market. For example : Catch Notes is one app I installed but can't locate it in root explorer so that I can rename or modify it.
Cheers!

Sorry but if the App is not showing in a search you must have a problem with your rooting or the file manager.
Installed Apps would show in System/App
Easy work around if they aren't super tech savvy. Get launcherpro and hide the apps in question

Use a program like Root Explorer and change it from Read Only to R/W. I'm sure you can do it with ES File Explorer which is free.

thank for showing me the ES File Explorer. From this app, i see my micro sd are not writable. Try to find a way to change from not writable to writable from this app but i couldnt. Can i use this app to change the permission?
I do not think you can use ES File Explorer to change the permissions, but you can use Root Explorer if you are rooted.

You need to change the ES File Explorer app options. Configuration-> Root Explorer (check it). That's all. You can also use this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173195 and remount as writeable.

Sounds weird.
Try to 'Wipe Cache' in the custom recovery (if you have one installed)

OK, check to see if there is '.nomedia' file in these folders?
Have you tried to remove and insert again your sd card? sometimes it solves this kind of problems.

Are you sure?
To make sure, install ES File Explorer, open Menu --> Tools --> select 'Show hidden files', press Back to exit the Menu and go to these folder again to check if there is '.nomedia' file.
Check .nomedia file using root browser app(not the stock one) & delete it..
Hope it helps!!

no guys, I just created a folder and copied two pictures in this folder, but the folder is not seen, so I'm sure I do not have any file .nomedia.
Have u turned off media scanner??
This service checks for media files after reboot..

I had this some times as well. I would then go into All Apps and force stop the gallery, and then clear data & cache. Then I would do the same thing for the Media Storage. After this, I reboot the phone and the Media Scanner rebuilds the Media library and keeps it updated.
Hope this helps.

SD Card question

Hello, I have on my sd card a folder with apk's. I am not able to install any of the apk stored on sd card.
Any idea why?
tks a lot.
Settings > Security > Unknown sources (turn on).
tks. it is turned on but still not working.
Give more detail, what happens when you click on it? Are you using the file manage in the settings>storage area? If so use a different file manager.
tks mate. Yes using the default file manager and the install button do not react at all.
indeed using another file manager did the trick. strange !!!

Thats just how the stock file manager works, its not meant to allow you to install stuff.
