It's said and done, MeeGo has been ported to the Nexus One. It's important to note here that MeeGo is still in early development, and not really that... functional... at this time.

I have no coding experience, but I do have access to ubuntu! I use it for all of my student work.
And this belongs in the Eris forum why?

well im guessing what he is trying to say is that if its ported to nexus hopefully it will be ported to eris as well soon
either that or he went on the eris forum by accident i have gone on the nexus by accident before when trying to go to the eris forums xD
I posted it here because there are certain developers here looking into porting linux to the Droid Eris.
I've been pushing for MeeGo, others ubuntu, but this just shows that it's possible (Very possible in fact) to do this. I know one developer has gotten pretty far in his ubuntu endeavor, and I'm extremely excited for it.
Just a heads up for anyone, I'm going to try and compile an image for the Eris sometime within the upcoming weeks (school is pretty busy).

I had my atrix since the release and i'm now starting to question if i should keep it. Right now i'm running 2.3.4 and the battery is horrible. I browse other phone forums and i see that they have multiple roms different roms with most multiple different developers and have made actual developments and the biggest development we have is barely functional. It seems that most of the developments on the atrix are theme wise from the same devs, no disrespect to devs working on the atrix because i know they have worked hard. And i heard rumors that the atrix community doesn't have much developers to begin with, so the question is should i move on to a different phone?
you need to hold your horses buddy.
a phone has been donated to CM team.work should start soon.
check out the Atrix section on rootzwiki forum, AOSP is being built.
we have CWM - check the dev section
we just got an over clock - check the dev thread
Please do not ask for ETA's.

We had a locked bootloader until very recently. This is why there aren't many ROMs yet. Gingerbread is set for a July (hopefully) release. With the Gingerbread kernel source, ROM developers will have a lot more to work with. At the moment, there's only 1.2.6 (old 2.2.1 Froyo) source available.
Be patient! Of course, if you're loaded with cash, you can go buy additional/replacement phones. For now, the Atrix is arguably the best piece of hardware on AT&T's network.
Also we only saw the bootloader being unlocked recently...

Hey!
I've been following the three ICS ports for the Desire Z in the Development Section for a while now, and am running the Desire S port - runs very smoothly btw - but was wondering: is there a place such as XDA's dev threads for CM9 somewhere in the realms of the interwebs?
Or is all the CM9 dev talk done via IRC/Tapatalk/etc. ?
As far as I'm aware they keep a pretty tight lid on their development progress and their official statements are on some kind of quarterly release schedule
But you can keep somehow up-to-date by following some of the devs on twitter or g+.
Edit: I kind of wander here often: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#q,statuspen,n,z To be honest most of what I see is beyond of what I understand, but it's nice to see work is being done and where the focus seems to be.
Should be a couple months before everything is good to go, but it will be awesome!
Engadget and many others posted good chances of cm9 being dropped sometime in september.
Can't wait myself after checking out the beta stuff here

I think he meant December. No way CM9 is going to take a year to develop!
CM10 would likely be out by then...
Mostly cm10 will be jelly bean

FYI: +Chris Soyars posted an update on the state of cm7/cm9 nightlies.
Apparently they changed their minds, there will be no more cm7 nightlies. When the nightlies start up again, they will be cm9.
From cyanogenmod.com:
"The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos."
Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the chip we have is the MSM7230. That seems to fit the name for 7X30. Makes me think we are going to be in the first batch of devices to have CM9. I don't know much about chip sets, or their naming conventions, but I'm excited either way.

I've read something along those lines on these forums a few weeks ago. It seems pretty feasible. I'd say that the Desire Z is fully worthy of Cyanogen Team's love
I wonder if steve still uses his G2 xD know he was quite glad with it but not sure what he is useing lately
Ok..Sorry to be noobish guys..but i am looking forward to get my hands on a nexus 10 pretty soon, but the "Never" mentioned on the android development thread for nexus 10 made me uneasy.. is it just that the device hasnt lainched yet so its that way or there will never be any development?
I would expect a bit development. Personally I've been waiting since the Nexus 7 launch for this device, and I can't be the only one.
No point in creating a ROM at this point though, no one can even test it. With it being pretty well priced for what you get, I'd be kind of suprised if at least a couple devs don't pick one up.
Patience..

The "never" is just a default with this forum software, when there's been nothing posted, the date of the last post is "never". Don't sweat it.
It's a Nexus device with the expectation of full source being released, it's hot hot hot hardware, it's well priced and it will be selling world-wide.
There will tons of development for it, guaranteed.
There will be some super sweet customers roms, always is nothing the Nexus devices.
Me? I'm waiting on ParanoidAndroid.

Not only with their be amazing ROM development but there will also be custom kernel development. I know Francisco Franco has said he will be developing his kernel for the Nexus 10 and his GNex kernel is amazing. Nexus devices are made for development, they are the easiest to work with and since this is WIFI there's no carrier involvement. Updates are straight from Google the day they are release and they usually update AOSP source just before or in conjunction with the release so custom ROMs will incorporate the changes before or right after the update drops.
Sit back and relax, development will take off Nov. 14th.
Nice to know that..shall have my hands on one soon.!

Can the Xoom after all these years handle the new Ubuntu tablet OS? I hope so because i just return my Galaxy note 10.1. I guess i need to order a nexus 10.1
I hope it will.
It looks like an awesome OS and I hope some of the amazing devs we have will be able to port it.
Ubuntu is open source and uses Linux kernel as Andorid does, so it should be doable.
Xoom's specs should be good enough to handle it, but until we don't put our hands on the OS we can't tell anything more specific.
However Nexus 7, that is one of the test devices for Ubuntu Touch has the same amount of RAM (1 Gb) as our tablet, so I am positive about it.
Xoom being non neon might be a problem. But that same issue is what cut off official support for 4.2+ versions of android, and I'm running a very functional 4.2.2 rom right now (EOS4).
it's already Work in progress....

It will be available as soon as you port it...
I started working on it a little last night but I'm getting a new computer next week so I decided to just wait. I don't want to spend the time to set everything up and have to do it again in another 5 days... Maybe someone else will start working on it in the meantime but honestly it still needs a lot of work. Right now it's worth flashing for about 5-10 minutes to satisfy ones curiosity and that's about it.

Since there is least to nil development for xyboard 10.1 lte, will the xoom or xoom 2 ubuntu be used for xyboard, or can some developer port it for xyboard 10.1 i am aware this request is way to early but better early than late or never.

I believe pulled the motorola xoom to ubuntu developing
I setup the environment, and got the Xoom specific part to build but no boot joy. Im no dev but ill start trying to track down issues on my own. I also noticed the xoom is no longer listed on the devices page as a WIP.

I have been looking forward to this for so long. anyone else exited to have touch on the N6?
it is currently at 0%
https://devices.ubports.com/#/
I am excited to see it. They def got all the donations they need for nexus 6 at 310.00 since you can get a nexus 6 for 200 but have to wait for a dev to handle it. Hope its soon but I have a One plus and it looks like that ones almost done Thanks for the link tho
http://www.androidjoint.com/2016/02/27/nexus-devices-bought-by-ubuntu-are-now-slotted
According to this source they already own a Nexus 6.
It's been like that for awhile (month+). I'm the person who made the reddit post linked in the article and also was in contact with the donator who made the large donation needed to get the Nexus 6 into 'waiting' status.
Hopefully the UBPorts team is working on it. I had the Oneplus One back when mariogrip first got the Oneplus devices started off for Ubuntu ports. Kind of sad to switch to the Nexus 6 only to find it may not have a port because it didn't launch with Kitkat :l
Please for the love of god let this happen.
Definitely excited about this. Fingers crossed

Isn't Ubuntu Touch based on Android KitKat? That would be weird to see running on the shamu. I wonder how that's gonna work out, definitely interested though!

I, um, was actually working on this at one point a few months back. I kind of got frustrated with the then state of Halium/UBPorts and took a rage-break but I might give it another shot now that things are a little more stabilized. I did get shamu running SFOS (mostly, I kept running into audio and modem issues), Plasma Mobile, and a couple generic rootfs' for Halium.
Is It worth porting though? As far as I am aware, the project was completely abandoned.

To the contrary, Ubuntu Touch/ubports are very much alive and well.
https://ubports.com/
They're currently working on getting the system updated to an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS base (as this was already half-done by canonical and will lessen a lot of future work for 18.04/beyond) as well as a new base for porting, derived from the Sailfish HADK and libhybris, called Halium to lessen the workload of porting non-Android OSes.
As far as the Shamu port - I guess Marius just lost interest. I already have some hybris ready device trees for shamu from when I was working on it late last year.
I plan to put some work in on it this week and see if I can't get ubports booting.
Not like I use my Nexus 6 for anything else right now. ^^;
probably never going to happen. i was so excited to try this. there was a dev preview on the galaxy s3 i booted up with no functionality. it looked so cool.

It'll happen if I can get the time to work with the porters to get it going.
Like I said, I already got shamu to boot SailfishOS and Plasma Mobile - both hybris based. UBports is just a matter of getting Unity8 to play nice.
