Mytouch 3G stuck and no recovery - myTouch 3G, Magic General

i have looked and couldnt find a thread that matched my problem...i have a rooted mytouch 3G (32B) and i cannot get back into recovery. i am able to get into hboot and fastboot but thats it...and when i try to boot regularly the phone will either get stuck in a boot loop or if it does boot (which is rare) it will go to the android tutorial screen and ask for me to touch. at the tutorial screen there will be a whole bunch of error and force closes...before these problems i had used clockwork rec and tried to flash another recovery from rom manager but it would flash a new recovery...then the problems followed and i could no longer flash either clockwork or amon ra....please help if there is any

Post your fastboot info. If your not locked with a perfected SPL you should be able to permanently flash a custom recovery and then flash a new ROM.

I would just apply SAPPIMG.nbh, then use flashrec.apk from 1.5 to flash amon_ra. Then flash whatever you want.
Basically just follow this guide - http://theunlockr.com/2010/04/26/how-to-root-the-htc-mytouch-3g/

Pull the battery and reinstall, and while the phone is OFF, hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN until you get to the update/bootloader screen. Not sure what it's called. From there you can apply SAPPIMG.nbh from your sd card.
Obviously you'll have to use an adapter to copy the file directly to your SD card without the use of the phone itself.
That will put everything back to oem, then you can use flashrec.apk to install amon_ra and go on your merry way. Try it before you insist it won't work.

If he can't get the regular ROM loaded up he's not going to be able to use flashrec. You need to flash an engineering SPL using the goldcard method and go the old school route of flashing a custom recovey, then flash a new ROM. I'm guessing you rooted before using Androot. When I get to a computer I'll link a proper guide to help you out. You can't get to recovery either (holding home and pressing power)?

You load SAPPIMG.nbh from the bootloader screen - you don't need a ROM at all.
Applying SAPPIMG returns the phone to 100% oem and should allow him to boot up again.

Applying the stock sappimg will return his bootloader/radio back to stock, not the ROM. You have to run an RUU to get back to complete stock.

You're welcome, let me know how it goes. You're basically unrooting, going back to cupcake, and then re-rooting, but at this point I think that's going to be LESS effort than everything else you could try, lol.

Yeah, you don't need fastboot to flash an actual ROM, you use a custom recovery. That's why I was confused.

Hello thanks so far.
I did it once one the N1 and it worked fine. But here it give me some headache.
Downloaded a Custom and a recovery ROM. Only one on the SD Card and try to install it.
The only way i know is hold VOL-DOWN and Power and from there start .
But this would be via fastboot ? and this show the error i posted.
Other option is, I have this ROM Manger as an App. Nice toy, found me the recovery or /and the custom ROM on the SD Card. After i try to install from there, it restart the phone goes up to the rogers screen and freeze their.
scratching my head.....
No Rom manager. Get amonra 1.7.0. (Custom recovery). Fastboot flash it. Will be instructions on his thread to fastboot flash it. Follow them. When done shut phone off. Boot into amonra home and power till recovery screen comes up. NANDROID BACKUP. Wipe everything in recovery. Partition sdcard the way u want it. Plug into computer. Hit USB toggle. Open sdcard on comp. Put Rom and gapps or whatever you're flashing. Close sdcard. Hit home to get out of USB toggle. Flash Rom and whatever. Reboot. Done. Keep us posted.

Hi all, first post here. I have rooted my N1 and flashed CM6 on it. Now I'm looking to root and flash a MyTouch Fender. I have one question that is really stumping me, and I have been all of over this forum. What is the differance between 32a and 32b? And if its on the phone, how would I find it? And do I have to flash a radio, too?
Ok, three questions.... lol
Still new at all this flashy stuff, but its great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Does PD15IMG.zip work just like SAPPIMG.nbh for mt3g and can I flash with S-OFF?

I remember with the old MT3G that SAPPIMG.nbh was like our ultimate safety net. As long as we could get into bootloader we could at least get back to OEM Cupcake. I like the idea of being able to bring the phone back to 100% OEM.
I've seen the PD15IMG.zip for MT4G floating around but not a lot of documentation on how to use it.
Can anyone confirm that it works the same way? Does flashing it override whatever is on the phone and bring us back to a perfectly OEM image, complete with S-ON and root access gone without a trace?
Lastly, is it safe to flash from S-OFF or do I need to turn S-ON first?
Thanks!
Yes and yes. Unless you used gfree to get radio s off in which case you need to use the s on guide at the bottom of that post.

Thanks, Granks!
Nope, no radio s-off. I figure I'll just call T-mobile and ask if I want to sim unlock it.
As for the guide to forcing update - there's a second pd15img.zip file (20mb or so) and then an update.zip. Are both really necessary to unroot, stay stock, and get current to 2.2.1?
Or can I just use the first pd15img.zip (311mb) and then the update.zip and skip the middle part, which from what I've read seems to temporarily root/s-off the phone?
The original pd15img.zip will be 2.2. You will need the second one to update it to 2.2.1.

To flash the file in the OP? No, you flash this through hboot and it will wipe your phone, replace your recovery, unroot you and restore you to S-ON.
Basically it returns your phone to an out of the box state.

I guess I should be a bit quicker on my edits! Anyway, when flashing through hboot over CM6.1 I get "main version is older" errors. I was going to nandroid back to stock + root but it is now bootlooping when nandroiding back to stock. This is frustrating. I still get the same "main version is older" error over my stock nandroid as well.

Just for reference, I'm trying to restore to stock so I can ship it back to t-mobile. So far all I have accomplished is doing a nandroid restore to stock + s -off + root, yet somehow it is bootlooping... I may use fastboot to flash the stock recovery and try to restore it then.

That's your problem right there. In recovery before you nandroid restore do WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET. Then restore your nandroid and it should boot right up.
Or are you doing this through Rom Manager? Boot into recovery and do this manually so you can wipe/reset before you restore. I just restored from cm7 this morning. Heck, I nandroid back and forth between Sense and CM6 about twice a week. Literally...

I didn't follow the ultimate guide so I just went straight to flashing the image file in hboot but it gives me a "main version is older" error and kicks me out... I am on CM 6.1, what could be the reason?
I have 3 ideas for what my problems could be: 1) CM Kernal (does nandroid restore the kernal?) 2) Not wiping in clockwork before nandroid restore (hopefully I still have clockwork) 3) Bad PD15IMG.zip download (like an idiot I downloaded it from the device itself...)
I will work on it again tomorrow and be back to this thread.
Thanks again for the help guys!

If you can access the bootloader then you're not bricked.
Imagine powering on your phone and you can't access the bootloader, recovery and your phone won't even boot at all. That's a real brick.
i had this problem last night trying to install gingerbread from yoshi i`ve flashed phone`s radio and hboot , to those versions that was recommended but after I started rom first time my phone started to restart itself , just like a bootloop , but my luck was that i had goldcard with a saphire.zip on it and it worked perfectly for me.I`ve notice that this SPL is locked and that`s why you can`t access recovery.hope this helps.cheers

Try formatting your SD card and then running the sappimg again. Make sure you backup anything you want to keep from your SD card. Format to FAT32 default block size if you do it in Windows.

Im sorry ...I know am extremely inconsistent with my posts ..im sorry... but heres an update...ive got the SAPPIMG on the sd card...it finds it and installs it and everything then when i reboot...BOOM!...Bootloops!
Well...I Guess this problem is completely Unfixable-.-...
I think you need to boot into bootloader AFTER you do the SAPPIMG thing, then install a RUU, and from then you can fix it. No?
Im having the same issue.I got another sappimg.zip other than the one from theunlockr but when I try and flash it, it hangs up on unzipping the system. My computer recognizes the phone but adb will not. Im lost....
RUU?????????????
I was sooo happy when I finally got SAPPIMG.zip to be read by the phone...then I still cant access Recovery...i do not have a gold card ....and i do not know what a RUU is....
I finally got mine up and running with cm. You need to flash Amon RA's recovery...then you will be able to get into recovery. Check out cyanogenmod's wiki. They have a good write up and the links are good.

Put these files in the root of your SD card.
Amon RA and S-on tool
When you get into Hboot it should find this PC36IMG.zip and ask to run it. Run it. This will install Amon RA recovery onto your phone.
Then turn the phone off and reboot holding vol-down and power. Select recovery.
In recovery select "flash zip from sd" then select unrevoked-forever-son.zip
At this point find someway to get Pc access to your sd card again. You can do this from Amon RA by selecting USB mount (i forget the exact wording, sorry).
Delete the PC36IMG.zip and put this one on there instead. Go back to Hboot and let the PC36IMG run.
You should now be running stock again. Unrooted.
This thread might be of some help as well.

That's the correct one. Just try running it again, and again, and again if you have to. If it still won't work, you can try another one, but try the newest one first. You can also try taking it to Sprint and just play dumb. They may replace it for you.

Also make sure you have the correct drivers. Install HTC Sync then uninstall it, then try again. After some research, it seems the screen you're seeing is from a bad RUU flash, so completing the RUU should solve your problems.

This is really sad, nothing worked for me. All above suggestions have been tried but nothing working.
I am not sure is it MS Windows issue, if yes, is there any Linux or MAC tool to allow me log in to my ROM and reset or copy from original one?

You Sir are a great man!! Thank you
Nothing working, I'd many tests, still nothing.. and many RUU tested:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.71_003_release_147044_signed.exe
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.2_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_154209_signed.exe
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe
Furthermore more than ten times HTC Sync driver removed and re-installed.. nothing working properly..
I'm just wondering best way to re partitioning original ROM?
thanks for any help
Minor suggestion: try running the RUU as administrator by right clicking > Run As Addministrator.
Had the same problem. When you start to run the ruu are the ruu and your phone the same file. For example right before you start to run the ruu, what does that screen show
Jab2k, you might have a bad copy of the ruu. It locks you in ruu mode like that when you have an incomplete flash but once you get a good one it will be back to normal.
If redownloading the 3.70 ruu doesnt fix it you will need to flash it manually using fastboot to see where it is going wrong

I download it twice and I compared the checksums too:
File:RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe
CRC-32: 5e0d152a

Any flashing just let it to boot.. can you please advice for fastboot flashing? There should be a solution..
Thanks for any advice

[Q] Unable to boot mytouch

im unable to boot mytouch after running ota update. stuck at mytouch logo. please help
Is this the Official MyTouch update your talking about?
Had the same problem with the official MyTouch was the update successful? Just do a battery pull and try turning it back on.

yes it is official update. already tried battery pull and tried to ruu back to stock
"RUU back to stock" by what?
If you just installed 2.3.4 in PD15IMG.ZIP form - this IS the "RUU equivalent" for MT4G.
Try installing it again.
If it doesn't help - nothing you can do, besides trying to unlock bootloader (don't know if you can, having no OS to boot to) and then flashing recovery from it and any ROM from recovery.
what happens when you flash pd15img.zip ???

Full wipe and installation of stock system.

No, for MT4G there's no such thing.
You could try flashing Panache's RUU.exe, possibly using goldcard. It might work.

It always fails? What do you mean? Do you get errors such as "failed-PU"? In that case, you are bricked my friend. Also try saranhai's guide..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394238
