so in clockwork i created a backup.. which i think saves your factory if im not mistaken and then i installed liberty 1.5. however after playing around with the tools and clearing some cache my phone locked and had no service so i decided to launch into the recovery clockwork again thinking i can perhaps clear data and restart anew default.. i was wrong andnow im wondering what exactly was that backup for anyways and how will i get my phone to factory settings or working at all.. i alrdy cleaned the whole data .
I'm not exactly sure what you want to do here. Do you want to just go back to stock or do you want to go completely back to factory settings?
Boot into Clockwork.. Go to backup and restore/select restore. It will bring you back to the exact same as when you backed up... like it was all a dream.

I am having the same issue with my Droid X, however it was after installing Rubix Focused 2.0 My phone locks up whenever i try to run restore from clockwork recovery. If you find any results from this a friendly heads up would be much appreciated since my phone doesn't work correctly
okay so basically i just booted back into clockwork and data reset and installed liberty x again. My only question is, just incase i return this in the futuer, is there a defalt factory rom laying around somewhere?
Look up madderstock. That should be what you're looking for
I used Titanium Backup to uninstall certain packages (not before backing them up, of course) and it seems that I uninstalled too much... Whenever I start certain applications, the phone immediately blanks - and locks.
I have to press the power button 1-2 times before the screen unlock allows me to seep my finger. And it doesn't always succeed in retaining the screen: too often, it will immediately blank and lock again.
Example of applications that make the phone lock: Titanium Backup.
Example of applications that don't blank the phone: Dialer.
I started restoring some of the packages I uninstalled yesterday with the hope that this will fix the problem. So far I tried restoring:
- hiddenmenus
- sns
- Dialer 2.2.2
-setup wizard
- syncMLsvc
But without much success yet.
Any idea which service or package are responsible for correct behavior of the phone?
UPDATE 2: I gave up and decided to flash the EC07-Nuckin-1 ROM. I repeated the entire procedure detailed here and the phone boots fine, but the problem persists - in addition to the fact that the soft menu buttons now disappeared (replaced by faint color dots - LED-like).
How could this happen? Is it possible that my phone contracted an Android virus? (it appears that the problem started immediately after installing Stay Awake from the Android Market.
OK, this is becoming insane: I did a factory reset, re-installed ec07-clean, and not only the problem persists, the settings, home, back and search buttons no longer work!
Not to mention that my account details (and everything else) are still there, even after the factory reset...
And Market won't even start.
How is this possible?
What do I do to simply start from scratch, wiping out everything and all history (except for the SD card)?

OK, but they don't respond. Even with your ec07-clean.
Is there a way to do a real factory reset? Start all over again? This problem is driving me nuts.
Thank you ciscogee, you life saver.

I'm out and about right now. In joshkoss rom thread there is a dl17 stock rom. If u flollow that second post I believe u will achieve 2. 1 stock as in out the box and flash up from there

I'm not really interested in 2.1. I just don't understand why a total re-install of ec07clean.zip + ec07.tar + update.zip won't restore everything to "brand new condition". Surely there is a way to tell the phone to "forget all history". But what is it?
In the meanwhile, I managed to make the Settings (leftmost) button work, by manually restoring SDM from Titanium Backup.
Android Market now starts. But the SCREEN OFF problem persists. I am now beginning to believe that Stay Awake actually caused a permanent damage.

i understand, but see dl17 is the latest official samsung/verizon release, so what ever you erased will be brought back. the roms that are released here are leaks/hacked so they wouldnt be 100% until tweaked

I understand that they aren't 100% and I am OK with that. All I want is bring the phone to that pristine state it was right after I upgraded it from DL17 to ec07clean.zip.
Is this possible at all?
I even tried the built in stock recovery 2e to do "factory restore". Didn't help.
Why doesn't it even delete my account information? This is weird.

I tried this at least 4 times. It doesn't get rid of anything. That's really puzzling.
In the meanwhile, I managed to restore my phone to a usable state (i.e. get rid of the original screen-off problem). Here is how I did it:
Settings > Display Settings > Power saving mode: UNCHECK (was checked)
Settings > Display Settings > Screen timeout: 1 minute (non was selected!)
I bet this was some remanent of that Stay Awake app.
Now, I lost quite a few productivity hours due to this. But at least now I know that this phone will always be mine, because in this particular phone, "Factory data reset" simply doesn't work.
Have you thought about using a different version of clockwork for flashing and wiping? That usually helps or perhaps stock recovery even

Mystery solved!
It turns out that it is the cyan wipe that doesn't work. The red wipe works.
Here is what I did:
Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset (Erases all data on phone) > Reset phone > Erase everything attempt:
Progressed as expected, then rebooted -- right into Android System recover <2e> (blue!):
Code:
Samsung Recovery Utils

apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset

Oh wait! I just examined the SD card and it contains all the old stuff. Nothing wiped, nothing formatted. And the Home button doesn't work. And the ticker-feed button reboots the phone... What's going on???
Edit: Looking into what you said
What's going on guys? I've had my Play for a while and for the most part I love it...def could be faster but thats ok.
So, the problem. I'm rooted, but stock rom and kernel. I was using go launcher, go sms and have alot of apps, a 32gb sd card thats almost full. I installed go locker a couple nights ago and it was running great. Then, the next day, I have no clue if it relates to go locker...but now my phone is like on life support or something!
75% of apps force close upon opening, the phone is deathly slow if it doesnt close...like I'll open up "settings" and it will either FC or take 2 minutes to load up...then it loads and I click something and it FCs. SOMETIMES an app will open fine, play fine. Like muffin knight, sometimes it opens and plays 100%. other times it instantly FCs over and over. Every single app no matter how complex is subject to the same problems in the same way.
I honestly have no clue wtf is wrong. It feels analgous to a computer virus. Everything is bogged and broken. I tried cleaning my phone. I uninstalled every launcher and theme app, and then uninstalled about a dozen apps I dont use alot. I left mself with the bare minumum....Id then open the "messaging" app and it would crawl open to greet me with a force close. It doesnt seem to be a problem with any specific app.
I checked battery use....very normal stuff. I don't know whats going on!! but my phone barely works....someone will call and it will take 10 seconds for me to be able to slide the slider and accept the call...
Anyone have any direction for me? I don't want to flash any kernels or roms yet (waiting for 100% stability) and I'm busy right now w tests and I just want my phone back to how it was a few days ago. I'm using adw launcher now and its the same as with the go launcher or without anything....slow, force closes everywhere, hang ups everywhere...
thanks SO much for any help from anybody...I really appreciate it.

r800x, unlocked bootloader through hardfix with Alejandrissimo....and most current Verizon firmware so 2.3.4 (right?)
since I rooted it I haven't messed it with it much, just took the liberty of using apps like root explorer and stuff

I don't think I do....I'm really noob when it comes to the in depth rooting stuff but I don't even think I have a nandroid backup...
I can boot to that orange screen and I did save my state when I initially rooted...
How do I clear the caches for that stuff? Davlik, can that be done thru titanium backup?
and what about the other cache? How do I see if I have clockword recovery? (I never intentionally installed it so I don't think I have it?)
Okay so I wiped the davlik cache (like 24mb) thru titanium backup....and then I reinstalled the market (one of the more troublesome apps to open)...and then rebooted.
Tried opening a few apps in succession upon boot, and for the first time ever the phone froze and rebooted itself!
What the hell is going on?? Lol my phone was fine a few days ago and now its just insufferable!!
Any more ideas as to whats going on?
I never dled clockwork mod so I don't think I can wipe that cache?
Deleting dalvik-cache via Titanium Backup only deletes "unneeded" caches. You need to delete every dalvik-cache by going into data/dalvik-cache and deleting every file in it. Then reboot, which will rebuild the caches (first boot will take a while)

I deleted every file in the davlik cache folder...rebooted.
No change. Takes 10 seconds to open the phone...everything is slow/force closing.
Sigh. My phone is possessed and/or dying.
Then I suggest backing up your user-apps (if still possible) and doing a factory reset
Do a nandroid backup, then factory reset. Then install apps one by one testing for stability after each. If an app is causing problems that will identify it. Or provide us with a list of your apps and we could help determine if one of them may be the culprit.

I assume you paid to unlock the bootloader (reset does nothing to this). Root is much more easily obtained
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
It won't. factory rest doesn't wrote the system partition where root is located.
Factory reset.
Please dont be scared of losing root, just use the search bar and type in doomlord zergrush. His script has to be the easiest most automated way to get root on any xeria firmware ever

I had already flashed to 2.4.13 before realizing that sms wasn't working and I am having a very hard time getting back to 2.4.6 without any problems. At first all I did was wipe cache and dalvik and then flashed 2.4.6 over 2.4.13 but ran into a whole mess trying to get that to work.. should that be possible without completely wiping data and doing a factory reset? I somehow ended up in a recovery bootloop and after trying EVERYTHING including odin an old CWM trick I found under the development section I spent about 5 hours getting it right to odin back to stock in order to get back to a nandroid backup of 2.4.13. Now I successfully made it to 2.4.6 but I can't for the life of me get the messaging app to work.. it keeps force closing. I tried uninstalling it and reflashing the ROM but that didn't work either. I'm going to try to extract the apk from the zip and manually install it over the current one, but if that doesn't work does anyone have any ideas? Am I just going to gave to do a complete data wipe? (I'd really like to avoid that I use a lot of apps.. its a pain to restore all of them with TB). Anyway i'd appreciate some help and sorry I'm not allowed to post in the MIUI thread yet bc of 10 post minimum requirements? so I had to post this here.
Thank you kindly

I'm just going to do a full data wipe/reset to make this easy (well, sort of ).. but thank you anyway and thank you for understanding...

try clearing data of the messaging app. if it still doesn't work then wipe data for everything and start over.

Ok folks,
I'm having a hell of a time with my phone.
No matter what rom I flash, seems to have issues from lockups to reboot.
I have tried every kind of wipe in CWM, inluding making sure I have the latest version of CWM and modem, same.
Is there a way to TOTALLY wipe everything on the phone and go back to true factory default, even as far as the phone number programming? Like it was when it came from Splint?
(Yes, I'd then want to unlock with Odin and put a new ROM).
Thanks much!

Yes it will put the phone back to when you took it out of the box..I think he means that if you have any files that you downloaded to the internal storage ie pics, music, contacts things like that they won't be touched.
Just download the Odin file and the Sprint file which is the stock software the phone came with and use is procedure.
Just to worn you The Sprint file is large and will take awhile to download to your comp
Get the full mf9 tar.md5. Remove sd card. Flash with pc Odin. After phone boots up to home screen and settles down, don't set up anything. Go into settings, accounts, backup, then do full factory reset with wipe of internal storage. After it reboots and settles down again, you're completely back to stock. No need to wipe your phone number and associated settings. If it were me, I'd stay away from custom roms if they're giving you nothing but problems.

That's what I did just rooted the mf9 and got rid of all the bloat. No problems to speak of..
Not to be unappreciative, but, w/o a reset all the data was still there.
Which makes me nervous wondering if there is some crap left over.
Yes, I realize a wipe will get rid of the apps but I want to make sure I'm truly starting from point 0.

So if you are on MF9 good luck with going back to stock everything. Because the methods mentioned above don't get rid of the MF9 Firmware just the Build. Also You have use triangle away which only works on MDC and MDL to get to fully clean stock. Everything mentioned in this thread will not do what you want if you are wanting it out of the box like new condition.
