so in clockwork i created a backup.. which i think saves your factory if im not mistaken and then i installed liberty 1.5. however after playing around with the tools and clearing some cache my phone locked and had no service so i decided to launch into the recovery clockwork again thinking i can perhaps clear data and restart anew default.. i was wrong andnow im wondering what exactly was that backup for anyways and how will i get my phone to factory settings or working at all.. i alrdy cleaned the whole data .
I'm not exactly sure what you want to do here. Do you want to just go back to stock or do you want to go completely back to factory settings?
Boot into Clockwork.. Go to backup and restore/select restore. It will bring you back to the exact same as when you backed up... like it was all a dream.

I am having the same issue with my Droid X, however it was after installing Rubix Focused 2.0 My phone locks up whenever i try to run restore from clockwork recovery. If you find any results from this a friendly heads up would be much appreciated since my phone doesn't work correctly
okay so basically i just booted back into clockwork and data reset and installed liberty x again. My only question is, just incase i return this in the futuer, is there a defalt factory rom laying around somewhere?
Look up madderstock. That should be what you're looking for

I started today trying to format my 2.1 rooted over to 2.2 and at some point in time have just trashed my phone. Then completely wiped/factory reset my phone. So I am sitting here and every 5 minutes or so the phone will just pop up the HTC quietly brilliant screen and it is insanely slow and barely loads anything. What can I do to just start over fresh?
It also tells me I have no service and I cant make a call to any # at all or even attempt to. So something is obviously up with the radio.
so you are rooted, right? You can get into recovery? Did you make a nandroid?

My guess the answer would be "no."
Download one of the stable ROMs...Virtuous or Skyraider will work...reboot into recovery...wipe and reset everything, including the Dalvik cache and battery stats, then load the ROM.
When you get that ROM set up the way you like, boot into recovery and DO A FRIGGIN' NANDROID BACKUP.
The next time you want to **** with your phone, REBOOT INTO RECOVERY AND DO A FRIGGIN' NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!
So long as you can reboot into recovery, a Nandroid backup will take your phone back to the state it was when you did that backup.
Haha, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt

He has a thread in the QA section which I told him to run the 2.2 ruu. He then did ran into this issue and I've asked him a few questions which he has yet to answer ...
I have a feeling when he was rooted on 2.1 he made some changes to the phone that a simple RUU would not fix as I bet it expected everything else to be normal.
So I'm new to this phone and I'm unsure about its backup process and its restore process. I come from the moto cliq phone and that phone had a different custom recovery that in my opinion was better.
With this clockwork recovery unless I'm doing something wrong I get force closes left and right when I do a rom restore. So what happens is I completely restore the rom and as soon as the phone loads into it everything will give me force close warnings which in return never let's me fully load in, making the restore crap! Because I have to start fresh.
So could anyone here tell me the proper process of backing up my rom/ restoring, using this clockwork recovery? Or is this a known bug? Rom I was using was EE 1.2.9.
Thank you for any sorta help.

I can't tell right off, because EE is updated now, but is EE 1.2.9 a froyo ROM? Some apps will FC because they are NOT for froyo. If you did the backup from eclair and then flashed to a Froyo rom you may see those FCs.
You might try booting into clockwork, wiping the cache and user data and system, then doing an advanced restore and restoring just the data. But again, apps that are not supposed to run on froyo will fc.
Also, it sounds like you can re-load everything fresh with too much hassle - you've had lots of practice by now - why not try flashing a new EE ROM like 2.0.0.01. Follow the instructions and FLASH the DK17 modem. Then you can reload your apps from the market and do an updated nandroid/clockwork backup.
EE 1.2.9 is the rom before the froyo beta drop that he did. When I do backups everything goes smoothly, but when I restore and I just hit restore a rom it seems to restore fine, but the min I pass the load up screen all I get is force close for everything.
I don't know if I'm doing my back ups or restores wrong or if maybe it could be the rom? But somehow I doubt its the rom. I'm trying to figure out if there's a procress to backup or restore that I'm doing wrong?
All I hit is back up when doing my nandroid and to restore I just hit restore, I didn't do advance restore. Any tips?
Thanks for the reply.

Are you using a theme? Any time I have tried to restore a theme it has caused endless force closes.

So at some point your phone is runnign with NO fc's? And then you back up and restore to test the backup, and suddenly you have FCs? You should not get FC's from restoring a nandroid backup that you had just made from a flawless ROM.
It's possible that one of your resident programs is conflicting with the others - if you go into settings, applications, running services, do you see anything there that perhaps should not be there?

You're exactly correct. A perfect example is right now I'm running EE 1.2.9 with no force closing problems with all my apps installed and everything is running smoothly, I made a back up and then wiped my phone completely of everything.
Then went ahead and tried hitting restore, everything seemed to have restored because I got no errors in recovery but the min the phone loaded into home screen I get errors like "launcher pro force close, beautiful widgets force close." And so on.. I've clicked over 100 times force close and everything seems to give to me force close errors renderng my phone useless, after the system restore.
So I had to start fresh again and just reinstalled everything and everything is working fine. Weird huh? I don't know what I could be doing wrong.
Thanks for the help.

You need to do an advanced restore and only restore data. Basically you flashing a 2.1 rom over a 2.2 rom this will break things. Since you are going from 2.1 to 2.2 your best bet is to reinstall all your apps from scratch or use titanium backup to restore your apps. You are bringing in data from 2.1 to 2.2 that shouldn't be there that is why your getting fc's.

I'm not updating to 2.2 yet. This all is happening on 2.1 using EE 1.2.9 (eclair.) Which doesn't make sense to me at all. Unless something is wrong with clockwork recovery?

Hi all... tonight I decided to try the Samurai kernel. Unfortunately, it boot-looped on me. No big deal I figured, I did a full nandroid before in ACS's CWM, so I'll just restore. Unortunately, doing so isn't working: all of my apps, data and settings are gone! It basically looks stock (although, interestingly, all the Sprint bloat I had manually removed before still seems to be gone, so the restore worked to a degree)... I've restored backups before and never had a problem so I'm guessing the kernel is somehow the culprit, but I think that got restored from the backup too so I don't know what's going on. I'm stock EI22 by the way.
Can anyone help me? I'm pretty frustrated at the moment.
Thanks,
Frank
Try restoring an older backup. If that works you can attempt an advanced restore data only from your recent backup to see if it was something in your setup.

That was a thought I had too... I tried TWO older backups that I still had, same problem. I also tried a factory reset and then a restore (in theory it shouldn't make any difference to factory wipe first, and sure enough it didn't, but figured it was worth a shot).
My only other thought is maybe if I odin back to stock, root & install recovery and then try the restore again... kind of a shot in the dark, really shouldn't matter, but maybe.
Did you clear cache and dalvik before flashing the new kernel? I wonder if ACS is the issue and if trying CWM 5 might help.

I was thinking the same thing D. The only other thing I can think of is bad reads from the sd card.
I am on Sprint S4 SPH-L720 4.2.2 updated to MF9 through OTA before rooting.
I rooted using qbking77's method and did a full nandroid backup I had no issues going through either process.
Like probably a lot of people, here's where I get nervous and a little confused.
So am I ready to go and install a Rom or are there steps i'm forgetting?
This is my first time messing with Roms and I don't want to rush it and have been reading this site for days so maybe i'm overthinking it but want to be more safe than sorry.
I've downloaded the TriForceRom 3.0 to my PC and put a copy on my extsd card, ran everything through MD5checker.
Now I watched the video that Unknownforce added at the end of the install notes and it looked easy enough but then in the video when it gets to the the part where you're in recovery mode and going into the advance Wipe menu the guy in the video selects Dalvik, System, Data and Cache and leaves sdcard and usb unchecked (which I get) and then swipes to wipe. But when I go into the Wipe menu it also gives an option for Internal Storage and Preload to wipe, I don't want to make any mistake here and could use some advice. Do I leave them or tick them or am I going about this completely wrong?
I get a nagging feeling that there's something else I need to do before flashing this Rom or any Rom really.
In the Install Instructions it says the Rom comes with AROMA installer, does pop up to prompt you after you choose the zip to install?
If anyone can give me any suggestions or help get me on the right path I really would appreciate it, until then I'll keep reading.
No need to wipe internal storage. That is basically all the stuff you have on your internal SD card. I also always wipe preload, not sure if it matters but I never have any issues. Sounds like you are ready to go so just make sure to do a fresh nandroid then wipe then run the triforce zip. Aroma will ask you options once you start the flash. You can choose what you would like. Since it is your first flash maybe just use the stock flash the first time. Then you can always go back and reflash. When you reflash you can choose modify and the aroma installer will let you change options without wiping the data from the ROM. Give it a shot if you run into problems restore the nan droid. Oh and when I do a nandroid I backup preload also.

Ok, ha that's a relief. Thank you so much for responding, I've got everything backed up so guess I'll dive in, thanks.
Well that was smooth and easy, thanks for the tips.
When I booted up TriForce I had a lit up 4Glte icon in the notification.
Does anyone know if it's just there or am I on 4Glte now, because that would be the first time since I got the phone that it has lit up.
If it is showing 4g you should be on 4g. Run a speed test and see what you get. Glad you got it going.

I cant seem to download anything of the playstore when having TriForce running. I cleared the apps cache and data and removed my Google account and rebooted and re enabled the account and it still hangs and doesnt start the download.
I dont have an issue with it when going back to stock rooted.
I used TB to back up nandroid manager so I could reinstall some apps but I cant figure out how to re install that do I tried re downloading from play store and it lets me go through the process but just sits there instead of downloading.
Any suggestions?
Never mind, I solved this myself. Had to do a battery pull and tada. When in doubt right.
So i have the sprint s4 on 4.3 with mk2 build. I rooted my phone yesterday and made a backup using twrp. I tried to flash a rom but all it did was reset my phone so i tried to restore from my backup that i made. i thought i knew what i was doing and now im completely lost. i get into recovery mode and can restore and it goes through the process. it then comes up saying to reboot and when i press that the phone turns off. once i get it back on it stays at the sprint screen. ive waited about 20 min to see if it would eventually turn on and no luck. can someone help me find this problem or direct me where to look. everything i find is about mja not mk2.

Is your new rom on sd card?
Is your backup on sd card?
Always store backups and roms on your sd card so you don't wipe them in the process of a new install.
If so... b4 flashing your new rom did you wipe all the proper things?
.............Steps............
1) Always make a backup 1st and save it to sd card.
.....Full Wipe/Clean Install.....
2) Do a factory reset wipe data
3) Wipe cache partitions
4) Wipe dalvik cache
It has even been said to do steps 2/4 3 times each to ensure no left overs from other roms.
If not these all the things you will need to do to. It is known as a clean install and is a must when going from one rom to the next.
if your still having trouble with restoring your backup try wiping all the listed things above then restore your backup. You should be fine after that. Hope this helped !

After your restore try not rebooting, instead go back and clean your cache and dalvik cache. Give it a couple minutes to start up after you reboot. If not, I've also found that installing another compatible kernel after you restore will usually do the trick also.
What rom? Stock?
