Help with Gmail please.... - XPERIA X10 General

Hi everyone,
I need help with my friends X10.
We set up a gmail address for her, when she got the phone --> [email protected] but she didn't like that address so she never used it. That address was registered with the phone by going to the mobile section of the googlemail site, and sending a text to the phone.
I have since deleted this account from her phone... the reason being she set up a new address -> [email protected] but it seems she played around with that a bit, trying to synch emails etc
This [email protected] account still appears on her phone because when I look for synchronisation, and look at google, I can see it in a panel. This phone is set up for [email protected].
She decided to set up a third address, yes, we are going to call that [email protected]
She has set up this address on the PC,. and sends her hotmail and other emails to it. We can see on the PC that emails have indeed been moved to the gmail account.
We do not seem to be able to synchronise the [email protected] mail, calendar and contacts with her X10. If I click on the account, I can check mail, calendar and contacts but despite seeing some activity with a synchronisation icon, nothing synchs!
I have also cleared the data from apps ->? google apps.
Any advice? I will meet her tomorrow and will ask her to show me her phone again.
I wonder whether we should delete all email accounts and reinstall.
I don't want to do a factory reset and start again.

What was wrong with the first and second email?, and have you cleared the Gmail app data too?

I think she didn't think the names through, so now she dislikes them. The number 3 address is the one she likes.
Yes, I did clear gmail app data but will see her again tomorrow, and repeat that procedure.

Can someone please give me some simple instructions on how to set up googlemail push. I have googlemail set up and email frequency box is set at 5 minutes, it gives no option for push. I have not found the option to sync contacts etc. Maybe I am having another senior moment!! Thank you.
Check out the beta section on google sync website -That should give you the info you need. I have not got it to work yet though.

if you create an new email account, don't select the gmail option. You need to create an active sync (exchange) connection... then you have push mail. instructions are indeed on the google sync beta page....
Many thanks, I will head over there now
in activesync app, type your gmail email and password, server is m.google.com ., go thru options for cal, contacts, and email, frequency, and peak times.

Now got the phone to push, new problem is that the notification sound does not work with it at present, could this have anything to do with still having the ordinary googlemail on the phone?? Do I need to remove it????
Getting in a mess here I deleted the original googlemail, now I have none.

dont think so. I prefer using activesync for google contacts and calendar, and setting up gmail but without push in the email inbox. You should get email noises, no matter if both are there. Go to home screen, settings tab, menu, all settings, sounds and notifications, tab sounds, scroll to new email and check options are ticked as needed.
I can't get the push to work despite having hard reset the phone a couple of times. ( now got to get my music and photo's back on)
Contacts not so bad as they will sync with myphone.
I think I am going to have to go back to normal google syncing every 5 minutes. unless someone has another solution.
Thanks for your help
it may be your network not allowing it. make sure proxy is off in connections (settings, all settings, connections, connections, manage , edit, proxy)

Can you maybe post a small howto on the setup (srver and client site)?
I think that this would help a lot of users who would like to have this!
If I use GMail, but use my own domain instead of @gmail.com, can I still do Push Email?

Your provider will need to support this.
It's NOT a normal thing they do.
Only "free" push providers that I know of are Gmail and Hotmail (live)

Sure!
This is what worked for me after lots of attempts.
I deleted the original IMAP googlemail account
Iwent to activesync
Put in my googlemail address ie [email protected]
Password xxxxxxx ignore tha fact that it then adds extra digits.
Save password
leave domain name blank
username will come up as santa, this needs changing to [email protected]
edit server will come up and this is m.google.com
Choose the data you want to sync
Choose schedule as items arrive
The forst sync I had to press send and receive thereafter it worked.
What was confusing me before was the fact that I had the phone charging in the computer as I set up, it would not sync until I unplugged it. After unplugging it only pushed new mail not the mail already on the server.
I hope this makes some sense I am very new to this.
Ok.. Looks easy. Did you set anything in your gmail account on the server?
Also. I'm not sure if thats your true e-mail address, but if so, and if you do not like spam, you better remove it from your post!
Lot's of spam bots WILL get your e-mail address, and use it for sending spam to you!
Ok I managed to get it working after a bit, but syncing still seems slow. Also when I send a message from the phone it shows up in my mail client inbox anyway to stop this happening.

No not my real email address it is of course santa's and he does not mind mail!
Did not set anything on server.
did anybody try to send a mail with some attachment to your gmail push account? When i get the mail on my device, i can see the attachment, however, i cannot open it or save it. When i click on the attachment it says downloading... but still cannot open or save it? does it work for you guys?

Dont suppose anyone can help me with my weird email problem!

I have a Nexus One working fine on Orange.
I use it for my Blueyonder email account which is set up just the same as it was on my Hero.
The problem is this:
I get the email notification to say i have new emails, then i go into my emails and the emails are there. Then it starts to refresh my emails and then before my eyes there all disappear! It deletes them before i have chance to read them.
If i then go onto my pc to check my emails there are none there. So its obviously deleting them from the server.
Now i have checked double and triple checked the settings. Its definitely not set to delete from server or even delete when read.
Any help will be appreciated as i dont know what is going on and I'm losing important emails.
I take it you are using the native email client?
Maybe this is not the answer that you are looking for but I use the Gmail App instead of the native Email client. That way I get the benefit of Push without having to refresh.
If you are interested in doing the same then all you have to do is..on your PC:
Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import > Check mail using POP3: > Add POP3 email account.
Then all blueyonder emails will be pushed to the Gmail App and you can set a label for them as well.
Yes i am. I`m just upset that it doesnt work just like the Hero did. That was spot on..
I`ll try your idea if no one comes up with a solution for me. Cheers.
I agree with Abbsta... you should to add your blueyonder account to gmail and receive all your blueyonder emails in gmail account.
it is much easier and being a google phone it works well with gmail accounts...
I did what you said and its spot on cheers..
Just an update. Spoke to HTC had no idea why it was doing but suggested i use imap instead of pop3.
It worked!

[Q] Quick stupid email question, please help!

Hello, I recently reset my hd2 and my email settings didnt survive.
Now my emails are deleting after a few days when it didnt used to.
Can anyone tell me where the setting is to fix this??
thanks,
-CrazyPostalGirl
Exchange account, or internet email?
Are the emails deleting on the actual email account, or just off the phone?
its my AOL account linked to my phone. as far as I know its just deleting from the phone itself.
thanks,

When setting these up it asks you how many days worth of emails you want to keep so it doesn't pull your entire Gmail inbox for instance that might contain thousands of emails.

Offline Gmail

Had my Iconia for 2 weeks now, and finding new uses for it all the time.
It is a wifi only version, and I have a job that has me outdoors, and away from wifi for most of the day.
I want to cache all of my gmail messages (including attachments) so that I can view and use them offline.
Is there a setting for this, or is there an app?
Running Honeycomb.
Thanks.
I look for this also.
- another solution is
tether your phone with your tablet, and you will access online via phone... backup plan but still usefull sometimes.
You just need to setup gmail in the regular email app. Go to settings, accounts and sync, add account. Use the exchange (corporate) account type. User name is your full gmail email address. Server is m.google.com
It works.

Wow. Thanks for the tip. This is my first time hearing about this.
Should I setup my main account as Google, Exchange, or both?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
^Not sure. GMAIL gets setup in the native app due to setting up your google account (for market, etc.). Not sure if you can remove it from the GMAIL app. Only drawback is double notifications for emails coming in to your gmail address. I suppose you could turn off notifications for the gmail app if it bothers you.

Do you need _all_ of them? Or just a subset? If you apply an "offline" label in gmail, then you can go into the gmail app and under label options, tell it to sync all of the "offline" label, rather than the default (4 days).
If you do actually need all of them, then I guess you could just apply the "offline" label to everything...
Thanks for all the help.
Still having some problems. When I set up the new account to sync in the regulat email app, it wants to set it up as imap, not as an exchange account type. Maybe I am doing this incorrectly?
I only need to sync one folder, and I figured out how to get the GMail program to sync all those messages, but each one has an attachment which is what I really need, and the attachments do not sync.
Getting close, but not quite what I need yet.
That's odd. The attachments sync fine for me for synced messages in the gmail app?

That's correct, you should add a "Corporate" account via Settings.
It seems now that the GMail app set to sync all mail (not just 4 days) is syncing the attachments for offline use. I am happy!! Thanks for the help everyone.

Not all emails being delivered to the phone?

Is anyone else having this problem? I have a number of subscriptions, a number of which are delivered to my tablet and PC (synced with outlook) but somehow not all are delivered to my nexus.
Anyone else have this problem? Any idea what the problem is?

What do you mean by subscriptions, do you mean email accounts? Is your tablet an android, apple or windows tablet. I'm assuming windows because you use Outlook to sync them. Is your email being forwarded to GMail? I have 3 other email accounts set up to be checked by my GMail account then I only use GMail on the phone. GMail then checks the other 3 email servers for email about once every 15 minutes and pushes the notifications to my phone. I do use Outlook at work but for simplicities sake have switched over to completely Google when it comes to my phone (mail, contacts, etc.). Just easier to sync everything through Google itself.
Its not really forwarding email to GMail, its having GMail check the other servers. In GMail go to settings>accounts & imports and then set up check for email from other accounts.
You also need to save your emails to the other servers, if its not saved and you delete it from a device it will delete it from the server and then be lost to the other devices.

I have a desktop, laptop, a Nexus 4 and an Android tablet (TF700). The desktop & laptop are synced using outlook. The issue is that I get daily alert emails from 5 or 6 different web servers (job boards) and only one set of alerts is actually delivered to my phone - the rest are delivered to all connected devices but not my phone.

Are you using GMail on the phone or the native android email app? Could GMail be blocking the emails as spam as it has pretty aggressive filters. Since one is getting through and not the others I would suspect they are being blocked for some reason.

I am using the native Gmail app, and the said emails are not in my spam folder however they are delivered to my tablet without any problems.
Is there a way to find out if/ how they are being blocked?

Correct, the native Gmail app for both devices. I don't delete the email off the tablet but label it, however while I can see the said emails have been delivered to the tablet, they do not arrive at all on the phone.

You might want to try setting up GMail on the phone again. Make sure your on the latest version then clear its cache and data, from setting>apps and then fire it up again and put in your user data and see if that clears it up.
Also before you do that double check to see that you have your google account set up to sync to the phone (and is working i.e. its green). settings>accounts>google>[email protected] then makes sure gmail is checked.

If clearing cache doesn't fix it I'm pretty much at a loss. Maybe has something to do with your labels, those are controlled through GMail's web version. I have hit archive an email before by accident and it goes to god only knows where as I've never been able to find them. That will also cause it to be lost from all devices. Do all your labels show up on the phones GMail? And when you use the web version are all the emails there? If they are then its more than likely a sync issue with the phone. Check the GMail support page and maybe contact them for help.
http://support.google.com/mail/?hl=en&labs=1&p=inbox&ctx=gmail
^ LOL. One of the main advantages of using is Gmail is the archive feature. One shouldn't ever delete emails, as they won't ever be searchable in the future. Archived emails are simply found in the generic "all mail" folder.
OP, when you label an email from one device, the emails won't arrive in your inbox on the other devices. Once an email is labeled, it can be retrieved either by searching or going directly to the label. If I'm not understanding the problem correctly, forgive me.
Also, if you have any auto-labeling filters active, you wouldn't receive any alerts either, as they would bypass the inbox.
