Do some more speed tests, verify that you're on 3g and post the results please. I'm 100 % skeptic that you're getting 715 up on your 3g connection.
And if it's true, tell us what you've done to get around it.
So was that through Photoshop or MSPaint? Maybe even Gimp although I've never used it.
This is on full 3g walking around in best buy

Mine or the other guy who is completely trolling the thread?
Ill post mine when I have full signal. I have personally watched mine shoot up to 600 then go back, like it was forced, down to 150...several times.
I ran the speedtest app a few more times. I notice its getting my location wrong. But i ran about 8 tests and all were above 150 upload. This was the lowest result. Phone is running the stock rom just rooted.
And another
No tricks or anything. And im not trolling. This is the first time i have hit higher than 150 on upload so i am not sure what is happening. I am running the new update but that didn't fix anything.

Sorry, not you. The other guy. Now that he told us where, I'll go to my Sprint Authorized Reseller local Best Buy and do the same. I expect that I will get the same results until I move out of range of the store.
Edit: Either that or this guy has the only working, uncapped Epic in existence.

I'm definitely not going to believe that you're getting twice the UL speed as you are the DL....
ive gotten -0 on download before...
^^^ Hey, are you in Kansas? Or did you just choose the speedtest server in Kansas?
If you're in Kansas, the fact that you're getting > 150kbps is a GOOD sign, and suggests that Sprint might actually have a grip on the problem and be close to fixing it. Think about it... their engineering is HQ'ed in Kansas. If they need to roll out a fix to towers, which towers would be the first ones to get the fix? Right... the ones in Sprint's back yard.
Kansas is a great place for Sprint to stage its fixes... not only are their best engineers there, but Kansas City is also just the right size for a first-stage fix. It's big enough to be a challenging real city, but it's not New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, so if something were to go wrong, few people outside of the immediate metro area would be likely to notice unless it were really, really bad or lasted for a long time. Contrast that with somewhere like New York, where a 30-second service outage would make world headlines.
Also, the fact that you got faster performance from a femtocell (presumably an Airave at Best Buy) is itself good news, because it suggests that once Sprint gets the towers fixed, Airave users won't find themselves marginalized with slow speeds for months waiting for a fix.
Actually... has anybody in an area with 150k towers tried an Epic with an Airave to see whether it makes a difference?

Excellent idea - I'll be getting a 3G Airave for my parents's house in about 3 days, I'll definitely give this a try.

Odd. I'll take you at your word, but I'm curious now as to why you're getting speeds that nobody else is getting. I'm in SD and still getting 150kbps wherever I go.
Are you guys rooted and running custom roms? How are you getting speedtest.net to work on your epic without flash?

Hi
I am a noob with a rooted TMOUS HTC HD2.
I have the latest KWBR rom installed along with Nexus One FROYO.
The internet connection via USB and Wifi are terrible when I connect the phone normally. Its also slow when I connect via FROYO. I am supposed to get 3G speeds or better; instead it feels like I'm dialing up from 1997. When I had a G1 connections were fast... Any suggestions on what I should do to improve? Are there settings I should tweak? Using a Vaio Netbook laptop.
Thanks.
Cacy
Tell us your actual speed using http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Rooted. I swear, between that and HardSPL being called jailbreak im about to shoot someone. If you are HardSPL'd you are NOT rooted, because WinMo doesnt require stupid rooting of any kind to be able to do stuff, outside of SDA application unlocker for a T-Mo branded HD2. Anyways, WiFi routing will always be slower than physically tethering your phone through USB. Keep in mind, cell connection speeds vary wildly from cell to cell, so your mileage will most definately vary as far as speed is concerned. I generally get 1.0MBps down at my house, but like 2 miles down the road I get almost 5...so its just all relative to your location.

What do you mean by rooted? Also wondering if you have tried different Wifi router programs and which one you are currently using.
I'm surfing the web fast when connected to my TMOUS HD2 on my laptop.
If you read the android development thread where you got your android build I'm sure the 1st post states android is still in it's "development phase". Nothing is stable about it, and 3G is not working perfectly.
It's the netbook
or it could be the signal quality
Well I would not Generalize that tethering with T-mobile sucks, because this is the speed I get when tethered with my "rooted" HD2. Oh yeah, it's also "jailbroken", and of course it comes that way from the store.

Yeah, I know. Not every hack/crack/exploit done to a phone has to relate to these iPhone terms.
Exactly my point, the iPhone has made cracks and hacks available to the general public. We had HardSPL's since WAY before the iPhone was even a thought, and yet it's now called jailbreaking. Pisses me off it does. People come the iPhone to an ACTUAL smartphone, and think they have to jump through UNIX hoops to actual LOAD APPS onto it. Losers.

Exactly. The general public separate from us here at xda-developers didn't even know about smartphone hacking 'till the iPod touch/iPhone combination came into play, and now they relate EVERY hack to it. Makes me wanna nuke 'em, like I said in a previous post
The iPhone is pure crap. Add a 1GHz processor, more RAM, a GPS and more all you want, but in the end, crap is still crap except it's faster crap.
I swear, the iPhone community has dumbed down every hacking community. Oh sure, it's easy. Flash a new Recovery image to your iPhone/iPod and you're done. I bet that if you asked an iPhone user to root a G1 on 1.6 they wouldn't even last 2 seconds. They'd probably **** up the phone so bad it would probably have to be JTAG'd to recover it.
And some of the users of iPhones are hipster d-bags. I love it. Someone tried to wave their iPhone in front of my face talking about their phone is better than my HD2. A nice 20 second start for Windows and a nice fast boot into Android shut their damn mouth. I told 'em, it doesn't matter if you have a front camera. Who uses it all that often. It doesn't matter that your phone has a 1GHz processor. The interface is some simplistic Mac OS X port. It's what you can DO with the phone that matters. They fling the whole App Store thing in my face. I showed them how over 30% of their stinkin' App Store is full of FART applications. I start up XDA WiFi Sharing for tethering, tell them to do the same: "$20 more dollars a month for USB tethering". I laughed in their face and walked away
(Oh, and the dialer completely froze on the iPhone too )

Now I tested your slow speed claims, and I can say. Your netbook is slow. Look at my results
Proof:
Damn straight, the iPhone has turned the masses into thinking they can "hack" something because they can plug in their phone and hit that damn "Restore" button. iPhone users in general are d-bags in my experience. Give me the days of the G4 Wizard and never knowing if your flash is gonna kill your device if you look at it the wrong way before you give me the iPhone. You gotta love how they always use the app store as a plus...well I don't know about you, but ive got like 50+ programs on my HD2...all WinMo freeware from places like pocketpcfreeware.com and from here on XDA...not a damn dime spent on programs. Oh and I can install stuff to my SD card straight out of the box. And tether. And install themes. And use Flash. Or another browser that isn't Safari. And use custom ringtones...that I make myself out of downloaded songs...for free. /end rant.

Oh those were the days. I remember one time I thought a ROM flash died in the SPL and Radio stage. My heart sank. But then the magic number, 11% came up
As a matter of fact, it's still those days for us T-Mobile US HD2 owners and those horrid .51 radios
Someone who doesn't know flashes a .51 on a TMOUS. Boom. No HD2. A pure OH SHI----- moment.

Yeah I always did the manual updates on my Nexus and now I'm waiting to actually see what an official OTA looks like. That's the only reason I'm still holding out on the manual update... I'm starting to get anxious for the update at this point, it just doesn't seem to like me
i havent recived mine either. been doing the "check in" thing since it started, but nada. is there anything we can do to force the update? i dont want to manually do it either, as the guy above me said, i wanna see what a normal ota is like
I'm in the same category. No update yet. I don't even know what other prompts you are all talking about lol.
Hurry up T-Mobile! Does anyone have it confirmed that Wi Fi calling WILL use your plan minutes?

Thanks man! I didn't know because I didn't get it yet. At least that question is answered. I'm in Long Beach, CA I thought I would've gotten it by now.... Hmm...
from what i can tell seems like not many on the west coast ahve gotten it yet, as i live in LA also. has anyone in los angeles recieved it yet?
I still haven't gotten my ota yet.. I really thought I was the only one. I really hope i get it soon.. I'm tired of these random shutoffs and I want my wifi calling! >_
I live in Chicago and have not gotten it yet. I will update it manually later this week when I'm not as busy.
Seattle. Still waiting. I don't think it has to do with your location though.
Does doing it manually update the radio as well?
In Philly and no update yet. Spoke with Tmob CS and they can't/won't do a manual push. I asked what next steps are starting tomorrow and she said to call their technical support line. I somehow doubt that all these folks are going to get it in the next 11-12 hrs magically.
Well it seems I'm not the only one. I don't have the tIME to call right now, but like others I'm getting anxious.
My call quality OS spotty at best and is like to see what the radio update does for that of anything. Plus the WiFi calling would be cool.
Waiting waiting waiting.......
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
As far as I know doing it manually is identical to waiting for the OTA.
Just update manually. There's nothing magical about getting the OTA pushed to you compared to doing it youself. Its like picking up a pizza yourself instead of waiting for the delivery guy. You're still getting the same pizza.
Ok, now I'm hungry for pizza.

I live in Atlanta. I am still waiting as well.
I know this probably should have been posted over in the General section but it seems to be pretty inactive over there and I wanted to make sure as many of the people who might benefit from this would see it as possible.
I'm in Miami (more specifically the Hialeah and Miami Lakes area), where 4G isn't technically switched on yet but just for ha-has I turned on my 4G radio a couple of nights ago and lo and behold... 4G!
Go ahead and give it a try, but before you do, remember to go into Settings > About Phone > System Updates and update your PRL and profile so that your phone will know to pick up on the new towers.
Gotta love the new speeds!

lol this is as general as possible. maybe if people put all the threads in general that belong there maybe it will be more active. And now the mods are gonna haveta move this.
I'm in the Miami area too and they have it at FIU and a lot of south miami. Still not in Doral though
Mods, if the thread needs to be moved or deleted, I apologize.
I'm eternally grateful for the help my fellow XDAers have provided me with over the past year and I'm happy that I've been able to help a few of them back. After all, that's what we're all here for, right?
I love XDA. I truly do. It has changed the way I view my mobile phone and that's major. What I don't love is all the unnecessary snark that I've come to expect from this place. It's not helpful, it's uncalled for, and quite frankly, it's so juvenile I could vomit.
I know such is the nature of the beast (the beast being the internet), that with the anonymity we're provided behind screen names and avatars we feel it's okay to be disrespectful to each other and bully other people but that's just not the way I treat people. Online or offline.

Inside my apartment I was getting 1 or 2 bars out of the possible 3. Mostly it stuck to 2 bars, it didn't go down to 1 bar often.
On a semi-related note, they should add a couple of bars to the icon to represent signal reception a little more accurately.

Great tip. Thanks, bitbang3r. Also check out the Map Viewer app from the market, search "4G" or "Map Viewer" and you should find it. It's developed by Sensorly.com and it's immensely useful and accurate.
As of today, 4G is officially turned on in Miami. Yay.
Problem with that is that if you check the coverage map, you'll see 4G coverage is pretty spotty. My area isn't "officially" covered yet but a few days ago, a lot of us, were picking up 4G signal in these "not covered" areas of Miami and then just before they flipped the official switch, our coverage disappeared. WTF Sprint?!
I just saw on Twitter that Samsung has released an app to "officially" fix the GPS problems. Check it out for yourself and see if it does the trick. Post results

I hope its not and its a real solid software/firmware fix. Some have never gotten theres to work.

It's not a mystery. Just read the linked doc.
# Does the application contain new values for GPS?
* No. The application only resets settings to factory defaults and then writes data in setting file.
I have to at least give Sammy a tiny bit of credit for trying. Even if its just an app that does the same settings clear that we had for a while here. I mean hell, look how long we had Froyo here, yet to get from Sammy.
Maybe a conspiracy or a plot. Follow me here,
1. Problems arise on phone
2. XDA fixes it
3. Samsung then releases an official fix similar to the XDA fix
1. Froyo "mysteriously" leaks out.
2. XDA gets it and makes it phone friendly
3. Samsung gets workable copies and makes the official Rom
Maybe Samsung just wants to indirectly use XDA to fix all the problems. Saves them some development money.

If that's the case, Samsung needs to be more generous with their leaks, give us the Kernel Source like HTC does for their phone plus all the other different drivers. While Samsung's at it, might as well give us the source for RFS, so we can eliminate it for good.

RFS is not the problem. It's merely something that sounds good. RFS OMG!
Have you tried the Galaxy Tab? Where is the lag on that thing running the same file system? Exactly.. anyway
LBSTestMode settings aren't to be messed with. OBVIOUSLY.. this has nothing to do with anything XDA does. When will you folks get it? Samsung doesn't get fixes from XDA. Nearly everything we get is from Samsung. Hacks on XDA don't get packaged up and sent to our phones. If you will recall, JIx fixed aGPS and a number of other problems with the GPS software. Not XDA forums' developers. JK2 is obviously something Samsung has ditched, left over scraps of what we will get..

seriously. Take is easy. It's pretty obvious that they dont really use XDA as a free code fixing source. Just messin around. Like my *official* on the titles makes it so its a guarantee. All in good fun.
Now on Engadget too

Fail
Epic fail. doesn't work. tell me to go to open sky.
I am returning the device.
the GPS faulty and samsung have been playing with the costumers for 6 months.
I can't believe that they released an app to restore settings.
it's so lame. i can't believe it.

Yeah, this was good for some lolz.
This is the last straw for me; I've decided to ditch this phone due to the poor gps performance and sell it while it's still worth something. It's clear now that samsung either can't or won't get gps working well enough to meet my expectations, which were set by other smart phones (iphone 3g, nokia n95, etc).
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
This makes a lot of sense to me. Samsung fixed the gps problems in the JI series update, but so many people messed up their settings after reading false information here on XDA. And many others installed custom roms with so-called"fixes" that in reality just needed up their settings.
So who can help those people now? The "devs" who are just cooking up rom images have moved on to screwing up peoples phones in other ways.
They are just trying to clean up the mess that XDA created...

if I were a person with a faulty GPS i would've returned it a long time ago.
My GPS has been fine since JI2
QQ MOAR ppl
Ok, I messed with the GPS settings months ago, before the last OTA update from Tmobile. Did the OTA update change these settings? I havent messed with anything since the OTA update.
What should the settings be anyway?

androidmonkey-
Here is my recollection. I bought my Vibrant the first week it came out and it took me a few days to realize that the GPS was highly unreliable and often essentially non-functional, so I, too, messed with the settings. As a result of the JI6 update, several of the settings were changed: 1) they were different from what the phone came with stock, and 2) different from what I had changed them to. Not everything got changed, and I can't document anymore what was and wasn't affected. But that was the first thing I checked once the update was installed. My phone is not rooted. Since the update, I've had good GPS, typically: Lock on 8-9 out of 11-12 satellites in about 20 seconds in any weather (inside lock takes about a minute and I need to be relatively close to a window); accuracy within 20 ft, sometimes less than 15; navigation stays on track.
Here are my settings now for LBS Test Mode
Server FQDN Type: Auto Config
Server: h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp
Server Port: 7275
SUPL Secure Socket: On
AGPS Mode: SUPL
Also: MS Based; Hot Start; GPS Plus On; Dynamic accuracy 50; Skyhook Off
Just read an article that T-Mobile and AT&T have rolled out Android 3.0 so I decided to check.
Lo' and behold, Verizon is right in lock step!

You guys have any luck when accessing the Chat Settings in Samsung Messages or are you getting an error as well?

That's a different one than I am getting.
Man I haven't got the update yet and I been checking everyday lol
Is there any reason why the firmware still isn't able to download through Frija or elsewhere?
Got Mine
Got the update as well, and also got the error message when trying to use the chat features in Samsung Messages. Ran around with Verizon and Samsung and the gist of it is that it's a Samsung Messages error that will need an app update for.
I don't know if I want to use it anymore, though, because I thought it was going to use the Google RCS but it looks like it's only going to use the VZW version which, my understanding is, only works with other VZW customers with the approved phones. So looks like I'll stick with Google Messages.
what finally??? the whole world is getting it in January.

I appreciate the reference but the VZW firmware is CTL4 and the update comes with a way to enable low band 5G so I need that specific firmware, I appreciate the help though!

yeah, I decided to say **** it and just flash CTL2. If I have to, I'll roll back in the future and reupdate to be on official VZW. It's not like I haven't done it before lol

Lol join the f**k and flash crew. It's almost customary for me to download every firmware for each compatible region and see what flashes and what doesn't lol. Call me reckless.

Right? Lol I still can't get 5G though, I've already swapped 6 SIM cards and nothing. It'll stick for a little while with the new SIM but after a reboot I get sent back to LTE, not even LTE+. Which is weird considering Spectrum uses the exact same towers/firmware as Verizon which is why I was confused as to why I didn't receive the CTL4 update.

That's odd. I also have the tendency to swap between LTE then 5G but generally it only occurs when I'm on Wi-Fi. After disabling it, it will stays on 5G low band. Might just be the area because VZW just flipped the switch in my area maybe a couple of weeks ago.
This was from 5 minutes ago:
This was right afterwards:
So, it changes quite a bit at times.
I got the update using Verizon firmware. The phone feels fast and 5G low band is the same as before. Now the things I dislike:
1. The Samsung clock font used on the AOD, lockscreen, and notification is a throwback to the S3 days and looks cartoony. The Roboto font was cleaner and more consistent.
2. The battery life is terrible so far. I'm dropping about 10% per hour whereas I could go a full 24 hours before.
I'm going to see if rolling back via ODIN works. Might see if the November Android 10 firmware for the U1 has low band 5G support.

Hmmm might be because I'm on spectrum, so I'm using verizon network but yet at the same time I'm not verizon? I'm constantly stuck on LTE and the speeds, well pretty much suck. I don't complain much as my medical condition keeps me at home 24/7 anyways and I have 200Mbps wifi so I'm not too worried. My only issue is that I paid for a 5G device so I kinda want to see what the hype is about 5G speeds.

I get what you mean. I don't think we'll get 5G UW anytime soon in my area but the next closest place that supports it is ATL, so at some point in time I'll go up that way to test what the whole hype is about. I generally use wifi as well, so I got the 20 ultra for the 108MP and future proofing, especially when I get BL unlock and root.
