You need to look at the settings on the dell PC suite and see what the default is when new contacts is detected

Hi,
thanks for the response however
The problem is if I create a new contact on the phone it link directly to gmail so when I sync it doesn't see my new contact I created. If i create a new contact on outlook and then sync it works fine.
I have check the sync setting and try ticking on or off sync to gmail contact, no joy

New Here - Sync Problems?

Hi guys, I just got my XDA II on Friday so thought I would join here as I have my first query! I got the ActiveSync software all set-up and tried to copy all my Outlook contacts over to the XDA. All its done it delete from Outlook all my contacts that had more than a phone number, i.e. e-mail address and street address and add the ones left (32 of 75) to the XDA II. Basically I have only now got contacts that only had a phone number in Outlook. Any contact with more info that a phone number is now gone! I need to restore from a backup but how can I stop this happening again. Is it me setting it up wrong or a bug? Why did it not just copy all the data like Street Address and e-mail address over to the XDA II? Oh and by the way, does Outlook on the PC need to be open to sync? Mine crashes if not!
Thanks guys,
Westwood
well in activesync there is an option where you deside if the pda should just update to what outlook looks like or if outlook should just update so match the xda or if it should merge how it's don
some people have issues with the mergeing
try setting it to make the xda like outlook and see if that helps
i never start outlook before syncing maybe you set something odd up in the activesync or maybe your install of outlook or activesync have gon funky

Create a gmail account.
In msm or hotmail export all contacts to a csv file.
In gmail you can import that file.
Start-up your desire login on your gmail account.
Let the phone sync.
And voila you have all your contacts on your phone.
For your email.
You can setup gmail so it will check your msn email.
So than you will also have your email on your phone.
Welkom to Android.
And have fun.

I had the same transition about 1 month ago.
I synchronized all my touch HD contacts to Outlook through ActiveSync, then I synchronized them to the Desire through HTC Sync.
Good luck!

Facebook photo sync?

How are you guys syncing your contacts with their facebook profile photos?
I thought android did this out of the box? I'm running 2.1 build 8105 and when I go to accounts and sync in settings and tap add account, then facebook it does nothing... I am logged into facebook for android but nothing from there. Also I installed facebook sync from the market but that's not working either.

You gotta Terry to context the contracts yourself. Once you connect everything it will get updated automatically.

And how do I do that?

yes i also would love to know how to sync the contact with facebook contact.. like other android devices do.
Press the facebook widget till it turns red, then press menu and choose widget options. You can sync your fb contacts from there.

Another option is Google Facebook Sync. Instead of copying your contacts from Facebook to Gmail this takes the pictures from Facebook and matches them up with your Gmail contacts.
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/10/synchronizing-google-and-facebook.html
it add the FB contact into the contact of my device, but still not merge and there's no picture synced
Search the market for an app called "sync my pics", it matches your contacts with facebook profiles and adds the pictures for you. You can even uninstall it once it's done.

Transferring contacts/calendar DIRECTLY from WinMo 6.5 to Android/Stread

Ok I pulled the trigger and ordered a Streak and it should arrive on Monday. My question is how do I transfer my contacts and calendar WITHOUT the use of a gmail account? I don't have a gmail account and everything I have read talking about transferring between WinMo and Android mentions going through Google. I need a way to DIRECTLY transfer the data.
Thanks

Do you use outlook at all? Outlook will Sync with both but you will need to install the Dell Suit to Sync with the Dell.

If you're just looking to sync them to have their contact information in your phone then I do have a solution for that. Its a process, but once its done, its done (but is reversible).
You'll need a Yahoo email account to do this. Log into your Yahoo email account, go to your contacts page, and choose to Import. Select Facebook. This will import your facebook contacts to your Yahoo account. Ok, now from the contacts page in Yahoo, you want to select export. Create a yahoo CSV file and save it to your computer. Now log onto your Google account and go to the Dashboard and then to Contacts. Now import the CSV file you made for Yahoo and you'll have all your facebook contacts now in your gmail account which will then sync to your phone. Of course you'll have to add any new facebook contact you aquire after the process manually (of just repeat the process).
Its not the most automated solution, but it is a solution. Of course you wont be able to see updates and what not with this solution, but it will get your facebook contacts information into your phone.
^^^ this is some very useful info here. Didn't know how to do this until this step by step instructions. Thanks so much.
