Create a gmail account.
In msm or hotmail export all contacts to a csv file.
In gmail you can import that file.
Start-up your desire login on your gmail account.
Let the phone sync.
And voila you have all your contacts on your phone.
For your email.
You can setup gmail so it will check your msn email.
So than you will also have your email on your phone.
Welkom to Android.
And have fun.

I had the same transition about 1 month ago.
I synchronized all my touch HD contacts to Outlook through ActiveSync, then I synchronized them to the Desire through HTC Sync.
Good luck!

You need to look at the settings on the dell PC suite and see what the default is when new contacts is detected
Hi,
thanks for the response however
The problem is if I create a new contact on the phone it link directly to gmail so when I sync it doesn't see my new contact I created. If i create a new contact on outlook and then sync it works fine.
I have check the sync setting and try ticking on or off sync to gmail contact, no joy

So its a known issue that hotmail active sync doesn't work on sense builds.. I found by using the stock email app not htc's you can set up hotmail using the corporate sync settings. here is the apk from vanilla android working great with my hotmail account and mdeejay desire build. just make sure the server is m.hotmail.com. check both boxes bout certificates and make sure you only add @hotmail.com to user name do not remove the /. The domain box should remain blank..

Gmail is excellent on Android. Just go into gmail and have it receive your hotmail emails too?
Gmail tells you from which email account each email is and replies from the same account that received the message. Of course as far as i know theres no Gmail widget for emails? (someone tell me if one exists, not that i search specifically for it)

Active sync is for more than just push emails though especially if you have Outlook which many do. And Gsyncit is a pay for app which active sync can do for free in one step. Also if you have lots of folders like I do on my outlook then you can't access these either.
EDIT: I have tonight discovered a solution to my problem of not being able to set up my Hotmail Exchange Active Sync. I have been trying for ages to set this up using the normal HTC email client. It kept reporting it had failed and I should try again later. So I found another email app called Improved Email and tried it with that and what do you know? It works! So now I am synced via Hotmail Exchange and my emails come instantly. In fact they arrive faster on my HD2 than on my home PC running outlook! So it begs the question why can't I set this up on the HTC email client??
Working now in the stock sense email app in EVO 3.70.651.1 Build
Just to confirm - once this is done, we can access our Hotmail via the HTC email app, or do we have to use the stock Android one?
Thanks!

Can you please explain how to get the Gmail app to use a hotmail account? I too like the Gmail app and would rather use it than "email", but when I go to add an account it goes to the "Add a Google Account" screen, with no posibility to do anything other.

Sorry to revive this thread but will this work on a HTC Aria? Apparently the Aria also suffers from the same bug that wont allow you to sync your phone with hotmail.
Why is there no hotmail widget for android? The mail app/widget we have is not of much help. I can't see the folders I have created and neither does it sync properly.
After reading mails on phone, it will be unread and if I delete it here on the phone, it will still be there when I use the web version. Any solution?

Setup hotmail using Exchange, google it up.
Configure your Exchange ActiveSync or use Gmail.
The mail viewer is much better

If you're just looking to sync them to have their contact information in your phone then I do have a solution for that. Its a process, but once its done, its done (but is reversible).
You'll need a Yahoo email account to do this. Log into your Yahoo email account, go to your contacts page, and choose to Import. Select Facebook. This will import your facebook contacts to your Yahoo account. Ok, now from the contacts page in Yahoo, you want to select export. Create a yahoo CSV file and save it to your computer. Now log onto your Google account and go to the Dashboard and then to Contacts. Now import the CSV file you made for Yahoo and you'll have all your facebook contacts now in your gmail account which will then sync to your phone. Of course you'll have to add any new facebook contact you aquire after the process manually (of just repeat the process).
Its not the most automated solution, but it is a solution. Of course you wont be able to see updates and what not with this solution, but it will get your facebook contacts information into your phone.
^^^ this is some very useful info here. Didn't know how to do this until this step by step instructions. Thanks so much.

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about installing the latest version of HyperDroid on my HTC HD2
But there is one thing that I'm worried about.
Is there a way to get the Sync with Outllok working?
I need the Sync with my Contacts and Calendar. Currently I'm running HTC Sync, but it works only withe Sense, doesn't it?
I hope you can help me.
With kind regards
Aod
Is here no one who is using HyperDroid and can tell me if there is a way to sync with Microsoft Outlook?
The best way import and upload the personal datas from outlook to google account(contacts, calender, mail etc), it will be sync back, when u login using phone. Htc sync wont support non-sense roms.
