[HOW-TO] Music App from CM6 on Vibrant - Vibrant General

Well, Samsung's Music Player for the Vibrant is absolutely hideous (in my opinion) so i created this how-to guide on using the Default Music.apk from CM6 on the Vibrant
1. Download the files attached below, place them in /sdcard/
2. Download Titanium Backup (available in Market)
3. In Titanium Backup uninstall "MusicPlayer.apk"
4. Now, use your file manager of choice (I use Astro) to install the "Music.apk" you placed in /sdcard/
You're Done! Enjoy.
This Should *probably* work on the Captivate, Fascinate, and Epic 4G as well.

EDIT: This mod has been superceded by Untermesch's mod which allows the Notfication/Lockscreen Music Controls to work with the CM6 Music.apk

How different is this from the vanilla 2.1 music.apk?

I simply pulled it from CM6 (for the n1)
If you're talking about the Music Player that comes with the Vibrant, it is not Android's stock Music Player, it is a music player created by Samsung, this simply replaces that with the one from CM6. I believe this is also different from the stock android music player as well.

I was referring to Google's Vanilla music apk from 2.1 as opposed to the 2.2 one. I currently use the 2.1 ripped from Nexus 2.1. Is the 2.2 version any different?

Does this also include the widgets from cm6?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I put up some screenshots so you can compare. Some seem to still being processed, hence the low quality.

It includes the widgets for the Music Player.

Does this have an EQ?

Easier way to install this:
I just dropped the apk into dropbox and installed. Works perfectly thanks

I pulled it from a different rom, worked fine, and didn't have to uninstall any other apps.

Since when does "delete the existing Music app, and then put a Music app from a different source in its place" constitute a How-To? Has the Android and/or development community really gone so low that this is considered a post worthy of a development forum? Really?
If you haven't read the existing posts, and haven't bothered to learn about adb or even browsed any of the SDK documentation, then why are you posting in a development section?

A mod will see this thread, notice that it's been helpful to some people, and move it to the appropriate place. Unlike a lot of other stupid and meaningless threads that are incorrectly posted in the Development forum, this one actually happens to have some use, as evident by the few thanks some people have already left.
If you're winding up for a rant, save it for another thread that deserves it. Not this one.

No it doesn't. I have the nexus ,evo, hd2, and vibrant. No doubt vibrant music player better than any of the other ones. . Have EQ which none of the other ones have. . Forget about dsp ****. No close to the EQ feature.
swyped from my galaxy S using Tapatalk

I wanted to test this player but rather then replace I simply renamed the apk cm6music.apk and installed it as any other app. This way I can compare.

Well. My device would get "error parsing package" if MusicPlayer was installed.

Thanks for this! But not having an eq is a deal breaker...

Does this support Last.fm official app for scrobble?

Thanks for posting this. I liked this music player when I was using CM6 on my G1. Even though the Samsung player has equalizer options, I'm sick of it being slow and changing my song whenever I slide the album image to the left or right. Also, most of the effects in the Samsung player are crappy anyway

Somehow I can't install this, it show the "Replace Application" pop-up..
p/s: btw, super noob XD

Request fulfilled=free hosting

The first 10 HD2 android devs who cook a build with the follow will get 10gbs of storage on my web sever, their own ftp account and folder, unlimited bandwidth, for the next 2 years(at least) FREE. Speed is decent, direct linking works perfect. I'm sure many people would prefer this over waiting for megaupload and whatnot to let them dl.
Things it must have:
Stock android 2.2 keyboad-others may be included in addition as long as stock android keyboard is there.
Sense style lockscreen
Working Angry Birds
Wifi hotspot
5mp camera with working video and flash
Post the build, send me a PM with a link to it and what you want your FTP username and password to be, and what you want your directory to be named(ie. versiiaudio.com/versii/rom.rar)
That's all been done already, and you can just install the original Android keyboard if needed.

Yes. I'd rather chefs just leave it in their builds, not everybody is in love with the htc keyboard.
You're not going to get a sense lockscreen on a vanilla/CM build without the use of a third party app (like LockBot).

Sense style lockscreen. Basically, a downward swiping motion to unlock is what I want, not the others.
On several builds I have tried Angry birds will download and sometimes install. When it does install, it will fc right as its opening or in the middle of a level. I have reformatted the card several times, unmounted the card as well, no dice
And currently I am using MCCM 3.2 and it is pretty.
Trust me, if I could build this myself I would. I'm just going to stick to photography tyvm.
well... if u use a sense build, quite naturally you'll get the sense lockscreen, wouldn't you??
as for angry birds, i find that i've had more success installing from an apk.
Intall HD2Froyo or any senseless build, install widget locker, angry birds and have fun. Now gimme my 10 gb account ;]

[APP] [WIP] [CONCEPT] ZuneDroid music player

so basically this is just a concept atm and its still a concept that is a work in progress but i was basically just curios as to what the interest would be in a project to bring a more pure music experience to android.
basically i have found that many music players on android are just not to the standard of stand alone players like that from cowon, iriver, microsoft ect...
and this is the only thing that makes me still carry around a standalone player (<3 my S9)
so the Goal with Zunedriod (name may change) was to focus on the user experience and less on the eye candy its a pure music player that will borrow heavily from cowon microsoft ect in terms of features (such as quicklists, on the fly playlist creation ect.) and of course that amazing zuneish UI
unfortunately i am pretty noob to coding so there is a high chance that i will be unable to do this but id still like to assess the interest.
alternatively if interest is high maybe someone who can code would maybe like to become a partner for this project
any way hope you like it and let me know what you think.

It's a nice concept. I like the wp7 style look.
A music player could be quite a big project I think.
I use PowerAmp at the moment and it does most of what I need. Have you tried that?
What features would this app add over that?

im not getting too far ahead of myself because its very very early concept. but unlike power amp it will be pretty LOL!
but it would be nice to get things like music video streaming, lyric support, id3 tag editing (including batch), perhaps even streaming to desktop via say WMP (ie DLNA), custom EQ's.
possibly even make it more of a media center with even video support ect...
yeah it will be a big project its beyond what im capable of atm hence its just an assessment while im still learning code but if some pro coder wants to help out and team up for this than it could become reality faster
cause by myself between uni and learning how to code properly it could be a long way off but im keen on the idea
but id want to learn on a couple smaller projects so maybe you will get your Gtalk widget
Well take a look at my project, maybe you can help

haha well I actually don't even want the gtalk widget, was just reading the thread where people were asking about it.
I'm also learning android development, so was considering giving the gtalk widget a go myself. But there doesn't seem to be much in the sdk on gtalkservice, so i'll carry on with my other apps.
I wish I was at the level I could help with your player.
I would love to see a media player app that was closer to the ZuneHD than the WP7. and one of the most important features should be the visualizer of photos and artist, album, and song info.
btw heres a name idea, its really stupid but I thought I would say it anyways.
DZRUONIED....if you look carefully its ZUNE in DROID....
Always loved the Zune/WP7 look for the music player. Gonna pay very close attention to this.
i have my major law case study due in a couple days so once im done with that ill finish and put up the completed concept with all the EQ, browser/ playlist screens ect..
hopefully once the concept is completed it might spark some more interest from people interested in helping with code
also if someone decides to help of course there would be an ongoing monetary reward/incentive once its completed (ie market revenue )
if not like i said im gonna slowly learn over this year so it might become reality......some decade lol
I love my Zune UI.....the visualization is awesome and I want "smart DJ" capability too......
Wish u the best on your project dude....
I would definitely buy/use this music player

Why is it so hard to hack the samsung devices?

Im curious to know, samsung devices always take longer in developing roms, htc devices are super fast and get the roms within weeks, im seriously considering buying a galaxy s 2 but im sure samsung will put their HORRIBLE iphone wannabe ui touchwiz in it , and i wanna get rid of it ASAP ,why do rom development takes longer? is it because not that many developers have samsung devices or because they are just harder to hack?
There is no cracking, perhaps we can say hacking...
And HTC devices were the ones choose by google to run a dev rom (on nexus 1), now it's samsung...
Just wait..
And, touchwiz is far far from iphone ui, and on any device you can choose another launcher, in the market, without any "cracking".
And, that thread is a question... so it should be in...? In....? Questions !!!! Yeeees ! First learn how to search, read, only after that you can "crack"..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This should be in Q&A.
Samsung ROMs are much harder to developer for because Samsung took Android and changed everything they could get away with. All the internals of the Android system has been changed in some way. This is why the guys porting CyanogenMod have run into a spot of trouble. Also HTC phones have been on the market much longer then the Galaxy S so there all fairly similar which speeds up the development process.

Im sorry... but i dont think its that similar to the iphone UI
I know the application menu is similar....but there is only so much you can do with that set up...Plus you can change the way you view your apps in the galaxy s...
Also the camera..... seriously apple did not create that design....i had a LG touchscreen phone before the iphone came out ( im pretty sure about that lol) that had a similar camera interface to that....saying samsung stole that from apple is ridiculous.
Some aspects are similar but the interface is hardly a rip-off

Yeah I'm all about the list view, it's at least alphabetic unlike that messy grid. It takes a bit to whip from top to bottom, but all I really do in there is get at things I hardly ever use or fetch something to put on a home screen.

So using your logic the iPhone ripped off the UI from Blackberry, right? Apps on the home screen, notification bar on the top...
Samsung has a phone that is actually easy to hack. No signed firmware, no trick needed to load anything.
But it seems the HTC devices have a larger community. Not strange, because the first Android phone was a HTC, and the original users and hackers have probably moved on to another HTC.
I do not know the mood in other forums, but I feel that plays a part too. Developing is something to do together, not something that a person does because others are demanding it or anything. Also something to be rewarded for (thanks, updates, extensions, people writing documentation and translations, etc).
I think with a better community we could figure out the possibilities of the command line of the SBL and maybe even boot images from external SD. Like done on the Kathrein satellite receiver where a third boot loader is used in place of a normal kernel, and that can load from external storage. And a better community will protect against shouters that say 'you killed my phone'.
However it is like it is. Not because it is impossible, but because of some other reason. Probably mostly consumers, and not hackers, are buying this phone. Because there is not a strong community, it doesn't have the mind share.

I need more testers to test this and confirm on different models of the current Android versions.

There is no needed hardware except for the Beats Headphones. Everything is EQ based Ibelieve
Hardware needed is just the piece of earphone which can be replaced by Samsung too, but all thats working is from inside .
It fc's on both my smartphones (Nexus S with AOKP (latest build, I think 25) ICS 4.0.3 and Matr1x Kernel, and Galaxy S II with stock 2.3.4 XXKH3 and Siyah Kernel 2.6.8) The HTC music app. Is that normal behiavour? I can provide logcat from them if you want to
FC'd on SG Ace
FC on Xperia X10 running on MIUI, haven tried it on stock or CM.
anyway i wan to ask this works only on the HTC music player app right? the one i have install.
not on stock music app.
having FC on HTC music only.
FC'd on AOKP Build 23 on my EVO 4G.
FC on Nexus One.
It seems that uses the HTC Music Player, that doesn`t work on other terminals until someone modifies the app.
it is FC on galaxy s plus GT-I9001??? htc music closed unexpectidely ..
The interesting thing is that the update.zip doesn't have any framework file but just the HTC Music and the HTC Music Widget. Are they moded into the apk or have the dev forgot to include them?

this is honestly really dumb. go get dspmanager or Equalizer or anything from the market and you'll get many more options. plus it will work on your phone if it isn't HTC.
literally the only thing that beats does on the rezound and whatever else is change the equalizer to have more bass, and only when you use the ear buds that come with the phone. it's complete crap, nothing but a marketing gimmick.

UK Dock Keyboard Function Keys
Fantastic Rom , amazing results with speed and battery, have put back a couple of Apps and they work well.
My only problem is the top row of keys
working
mute, vol up/down, start/stop, forward track/back track, settings, internet
not working
screen shot, auto brightness, brightness up/down, mouse pad lock, bluetooth key ,wifi key.
Anyone else have this problem or know how to map those keys, all other keys are correct, tried full wipe with keyboard off and on, even replaced apk with one from Revolver but no difference....
Still a Fantastic Rom though well done need a donation bucket .....

Root/SU Problem
I have no root rights in this ROM.
Many apps say no root, but I have allowed SU.
Give it a solution for it?
I get the ROOT of ADB and mempodroid, but Android is not fully rooted.
e.g. Root Explorer, AndroZip Root and so on
EDIT:
find a Solution for it.....
1. Install Titanium and Busybox Installer
2. Start Titanium and then run BusyBox Installer on Titanium
3. the BB Installer becomes Root and now you can install Busybox
4. Root works
I've now used CM9, FROZN, and CNA...I love FROZN I just want the full dock support that CNA offers. Please please pleeeease add it! O
If you had the chance to have 1 thing baked into the rom as standard what would it be?......
For my use id like to have dsp or miui music player (yup its 2 but i said or lol)
To help the dev itd be cool to have a live bug report feature, example - a simple 1 touch toggle on the notification bar that could instantly send a report directly to the dev.
Or like logcat but with auto capture of the fail only.

dsp on tf to me its always felt like a phone feature and ive always wanted voodoo to bring out a tablet version
miui music player?? ive used both of them and saw no awesome features or a uniform layout and i think miui is way over rated and a very personal choice stick with Google music but don't bake in miui parts (just saying for people like me it would be deleted and replaced by poweramp or similar in 2 seconds)
I think for now its a couple simple things that should be baked in like asus keyboard etc
Although i love the last idea sort of like statistics gatherer on cm9 right?
