so basically this is just a concept atm and its still a concept that is a work in progress but i was basically just curios as to what the interest would be in a project to bring a more pure music experience to android.
basically i have found that many music players on android are just not to the standard of stand alone players like that from cowon, iriver, microsoft ect...
and this is the only thing that makes me still carry around a standalone player (<3 my S9)
so the Goal with Zunedriod (name may change) was to focus on the user experience and less on the eye candy its a pure music player that will borrow heavily from cowon microsoft ect in terms of features (such as quicklists, on the fly playlist creation ect.) and of course that amazing zuneish UI
unfortunately i am pretty noob to coding so there is a high chance that i will be unable to do this but id still like to assess the interest.
alternatively if interest is high maybe someone who can code would maybe like to become a partner for this project
any way hope you like it and let me know what you think.

It's a nice concept. I like the wp7 style look.
A music player could be quite a big project I think.
I use PowerAmp at the moment and it does most of what I need. Have you tried that?
What features would this app add over that?

im not getting too far ahead of myself because its very very early concept. but unlike power amp it will be pretty LOL!
but it would be nice to get things like music video streaming, lyric support, id3 tag editing (including batch), perhaps even streaming to desktop via say WMP (ie DLNA), custom EQ's.
possibly even make it more of a media center with even video support ect...
yeah it will be a big project its beyond what im capable of atm hence its just an assessment while im still learning code but if some pro coder wants to help out and team up for this than it could become reality faster
cause by myself between uni and learning how to code properly it could be a long way off but im keen on the idea
but id want to learn on a couple smaller projects so maybe you will get your Gtalk widget
Well take a look at my project, maybe you can help

haha well I actually don't even want the gtalk widget, was just reading the thread where people were asking about it.
I'm also learning android development, so was considering giving the gtalk widget a go myself. But there doesn't seem to be much in the sdk on gtalkservice, so i'll carry on with my other apps.
I wish I was at the level I could help with your player.
I would love to see a media player app that was closer to the ZuneHD than the WP7. and one of the most important features should be the visualizer of photos and artist, album, and song info.
btw heres a name idea, its really stupid but I thought I would say it anyways.
DZRUONIED....if you look carefully its ZUNE in DROID....
Always loved the Zune/WP7 look for the music player. Gonna pay very close attention to this.
i have my major law case study due in a couple days so once im done with that ill finish and put up the completed concept with all the EQ, browser/ playlist screens ect..
hopefully once the concept is completed it might spark some more interest from people interested in helping with code
also if someone decides to help of course there would be an ongoing monetary reward/incentive once its completed (ie market revenue )
if not like i said im gonna slowly learn over this year so it might become reality......some decade lol
I love my Zune UI.....the visualization is awesome and I want "smart DJ" capability too......
Wish u the best on your project dude....
I would definitely buy/use this music player

Hey everyone. I'm working on a new launcher for my T-Mobile Dash (S620). Its in its infant stages. i have a few sketches, and 1 fleshed out concept. I'd like to get some feedback and see what y'all think. The pin-wheel above the clock would rotate to show day and night. It was inspired a bit by the layout of the xbox 360 dashboard... and every other according menu ever made (microsoft wasnt first)

love your mock up. Imo, I would see what those tabs cascading from highest on left to lowest on the right might look like. then make every one a different color- user customizable even. I really dig what you got there othrwise great work.
I don't have a dash, but that looks pretty sweet. I would use it if I did and I do have a few friends with Dashes and I would definitely let them know about this.

I have a little bit of documentation reading to do before i get started on development. I'll try to keep this thread updated for y'all. I'd love to work along side someone who knows what their doing. i can write actionscript and parse xml all day long... What will hold me up this project, is my unfamiliarity with developing software for wm6.
looks great.. hope to try it soon..
Radakast,
Looks good. Hope to see the finished article soon.

Looks like the blade style like the xbox360 uses. Nice! This would be an awsome launcher for my 8525. I must commend you on taking the launcher gui in a different direction. Most people are stuck in the Diamond/Iphone theme rut and its causing a lot of repetitive results. Enough of my babbling. I definitely will be keeping an eye on the development of this launcher.
Brilliant idea! Your design is way too dark however.
Seriously one of the best home screen concepts!
Forgive my ignorance but is your device a smartphone? What program will you use to develop your screen? Having just left a smartphone (Moto Q) I was under the impression that the homescreen customization is limited except for a few programs (i.e. SBSH Facade, phoneAlarm). If there is hope for homescreen customization, i'm all for it. I am just curious how it is possible.
Hey guys. I spent a few hours working on this this weekend. thanks for everyone's replys
@Vision77
Thank you. I'm a web interface designer, and im trying to bring alittle bit of that action to the smart phone platform.
@N1c0_ds
Yes it is way to dark. I designed it in my pitch black room at 2 in the morning and it looked plenty bright. I made a demo for my phone (linked below) and i was tryign to show it off to people yesterday and had to cup my hand over it... not good! my next revision will be much lighter.
@jerkules
You are forgiven. Its written in Flash Lite (Targeted Flash Player 7 written with Actionscript 2). I can blabber on and on about the technical abilities of flash player 7, but I'll spare you. pretty much its going to work like this:
dash.exe will be written in vb or c# and will work as the glue between the phone's api and flash. it will interpret the phone's commands (ie: display that you have missed a call) and my flash api (which will be open source when im done so you can all make custom phone aps in flash...) will update the flash movie with the new information. and then wm6.1 will be told to use dash.exe instead of regular home.exe.
And now for the update.
I'm really excited for this project. yall seem to enjoy it so ive added it to my stack of things to work on.. Here is the progress i've made
And because its made in Flash. i can post a real example, not just screenshots of it.
http://www.motionharvest.com/forums/xda/dash/radadash/examples/clock_and_sliding/
I've made a small movie too. this examplifies N1c0_ds analysis that its too dark. im also not going to win any cinematic awards for my camera work.

reserved for possible update
Great Idea!!! i really like it, if i may just make a suggestion, maybe on the slider for texts, have some type of notification that there are unread texts. maybe something for missed calls as well? cant wait to see where this is going. Good luck!!
Great idea, love simplistic designs. If you need any help with the flash stuff I would suggest twolf, he's done really great work with flash for throttle launcher.
I've just seen this & I must say it looks really interesting. Has there been anymore progress on this recently?
To the OP - are you able to update us on progress please?
Thanks
WB
I was playing with a ipod classic from a friend of mine, i new ipods had some kind of music quiz so i checked that out too.
I saw that that quiz was great, much better then i had thought!
It made the questions up with your mp3's as content, asking questions as:
Which song is this?
From which album is this song?
The song xx is from the year xx, or not?
etcetera.
It just uses the ID3 tags on every track and uses some parts of the mp3's as musical fragments with the questions.
Now, i was really sad that my phone (HTC Touch Diamond) could'nt have such a nice game on it, and i was thinking... I don't think that someone with develop skills would have such a hard job on making something like this.
I can design the layout, interface etc. (I'm a designer), but i need at least one coder to make it to a real game with me!
So, who wants to help to make a game at least twice as good as the ipod Music Quiz?

This is a 'quick' design of what i kinda think it should look like, now to find someone to build it with me
28-09-08: Newly created start screen. probably not really 100% possible to make, but its a idea
05-10-08: 'Something wicked, this way comes'
Update: Posted preview image of what i think it should look like, see startpost.
Stats are also a must have! Stats rock
i love the idea. good luck with the programming
Sounds good and looks good as well. I'll definitely keep an eye out if this comes to fuition.
cool app, i'd like one like it.
I love playing this on my iPod Classic. Your design looks awesome and hopefully someone will be able to help you program this.
I would love this app as well
Good Idea, but too easy! hehehe
I know every single verse/riff/solo of my 27gb music library! hehe...
It will a lot more difficult if it put the music to play in backwards too!
Sry for the english
I must confess....I would cheat! I would simply ask my mobile companion here, "What song is this?" and she would of course, reply with the answer, I WIN !!!!!

True, i'm a designer. But, i'm also a music lover
I'm a VB.NET developer and I think I can pull this off in .NET.
PM me if you want me to help you, if you deliver the designs I'll do the coding (don't know if it's going to work 100% yet, we'll see that while developing )

Andlabs is bringing a classic game to Android - spiced up with a twist.
Gravity Wins is based on the traditional Connect 4 (or 4 in a Row) two Player game,
only in this one your strategy has to be more advanced and thought-through, because
the board orientation changes every few rounds and then the gravity mixes up everything.
another Youtube Video Review by PlayAndroid.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=e6kccF-CKe0#at=30
Its a fun and fast to understand game concept that lets two players compete/engage on the same device.
We also added a Game Mode where you can play alone against a computer player.
Check it out, its available for free

Yes we are too, we still try to figure out how to do it.
We thought about using OpenFeint's Playtime which supposed to support round based multiplayer, but it seems like this feature is not available for android yet.
We also thought about AppEngine, but we were told that we would hit the traffic limits way to fast to support online gaming.
Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

Update 1.8
Hey Folks, new Update is out again
this time we added more AI-Levels to the game to make it a little bit more challenging.
Also we added a Poll about a question concerning the multiplayer.
You can also always comment here about that.
Quite Awesome!
Do you already have results from the Multiplayer Poll in the Settings Menu?
Hey guys,
I picked up a Galaxy S2 the other day with emulation in mind because of the huge screen, the power and the weight of the device. I got the phone, rooted it, installed the latest MIUI rom 1.7.8 which is fabulous apart from a few kinks. The phone is really responsive and fast and it was an awesome buy. After playing around with it a bit, i tried out some emulators. I found that games which don't require any reactions were playable on the device, and others which needed fast action were just really tough to play, megaman, sonic and mario for example. I bet your thinking "Mario? Action? lol!" well i mean action as in its slightly fast paced, you need to have 100% accuracy when playing the game for it to be effective and efficient on the device, which for me it was not i kept missing buttons and stuff, more importantly my hand covered the whole of mario so i couldn't see him which was a large downside.
So i decided to get the Wiimote working on the device, which is why in the end i rooted the device and installed MIUI because luckily the bluetooth stack for the rom supports the wiimote which is great. And like all the previous phones i had (Nexus One, Desire, iPhone 4) all have Wiimote support but that is no good for on the go playing, and tbh its only good when you have a stand for the phone and a good chair where you can watch the device while playing using the wiimote over bluetooth.
This in my eyes was not practical enough for playing comfortably, so i looked into something else, and discovered these:

At first glance you think "Thats clever!" and it is clever it gives a solution to having to hold the phone and the wiimote to play. But not being offensive to the creator/designer or anything but they aren't exactly pretty. I tried to make something too but it was a complete fail, it wasn't secure, it looked horrible and it wasn't detachable, so i came up with something better. I was trying to think of a material which was both durable, secure, strong and customisable enough to build a practical solution. Then it hit me: lego.
I present to you, the Galaxy S2 Wiimote Gaming Holder! It's made 100% out of lego (the structure, that is) and connects securely to to wiimote and the phone. The video will tell more.
Here is the link to the full gallery of pictures on my Dropbox account. Theres a total of 33 images to look through.
I hope you guys like this, I can imagine that lots of people would want one of these hehe. If you want one then post and we can sort something out. Theres a few reasons I posted this because I thought you guys would find this interesting and that this can be adapted for other phones as the bass structure is universal to any Wiimote. So there you go. Post comments, suggestions, views and ratings etc i'm eager for feedback
Haha! Classic!
Added the youtube video
how did you manage to pair the wiimote to the galaxy s2? everywhere i look, it says that it doesn't work.

Thats what I thought until i tried MIUI rom. It won't work on the stock roms or other roms based off the stock (thats an educated guess) as the bluetooth stack won't support it. But MIUI does and also CyanogenMOD when the nighties and final get released for this device.
I think the amazing thing here isn't your holder but that you found a way to get the Samsung Galaxy S II working with a Wiimote (no offence to your holder).
I'll have to put a new ROM on my phone so I can use the Classic Controller and the SNES Classic Controller .
Cool man,,,so does this work with all the games?? u know like gameloft's and other games??
I don't think so. But emulators usually allow to map hardware butons so I will be happy just with them
Technically it works with anything that can map hardware buttons, to my knowledge anyway.
have you seen this? hackaday.com/2010/07/29/super-simple-gaming-controller-for-android-or-iphone
it´s already done!
I've never seen that before, but it looks pretty sweet xD. I still prefer mine though. Lego is probably cheaper and much more detachable, and smaller. Nice find though ;p

Hi all,
I have been working on an HTML5 based reader similar to Flipboard that would work in Android, iPad, Windows 8, etc. However, with news that Flipboard will be releasing to Android this year, I'm debating on if it's worth my time to finish. A few things of note:
It's powered by google reader
It actually has a better image grabbing engine that FB for image detection
Around 32 page layouts thus far
Scales areas and fonts dynamically to fit any resolution tablet/screen
Grabs the first few pages, then keeps going in the background for quick start

What do you think? Should I put the time in to finish it for everyone?
Thanks,
B.
I think if u can manage to create and page transition effect that makes flipping through them as exciting as it is on Flipboard then ur App will sell itself....i don't see that on your video.... it's laying out new nicely though.
try to focus on visuals and gestures.

Yea, it's complete alpha stages right now. I don't even have the code in for viewing an article. I won't be taking the exact FB effect, but was planning on making a swipe effect of some kind, but don't want to spend the million hours finishing this out if everyone says "Why bother, we'll use FlipBoard."
Thanks,
B.
Put in mind that Flipboard announced that the company will release the app only for chosen devices ....so if your app suits older less powered devices and have some cool features that are optimized for smooth browsing and doesn't consume battery ...then i think u should work on it and don't give up .
second of all you should know by now people lke to try out new apps every now and then ...we get bored fast my friend
good luck developing ..but if u loose interest then it's also ok .....maybe u will come up with something even better

Yea, now that the APK is out I'm seeing that Flipboard is working fine on older devices, I think I'll hold off. While I'm happy to continue building this, I don't see much point unless Flipboard doesn't come out tablet optimized. Happy to give people another option, but I only have a limited amount of time, and could never compete with the feature list that FB provides.
Thanks,
B.
