Nice find!
Yeah excellent find.
By the look of it answers a couple of questions from SE perspective.
2.1 being the end of upgrade (at this stage) & screen type.

You should probably edit your OP with that link. No reason to have to sign into Facebook to read a PDF!
But yeah, These are the points I found interesting:
"Scratch-resistant
Yes. Shatter proof sheet on mineral glass"
"Touch screen
Capacitive (single touch)"
"Memory card support
microSDTM, up to 32 GB"
because until now, I've been reading the X10 only supported 16GB cards.
"Navigation/rendering

Colours 65,536-colour TFT?????

@jerrytea,i totally agree with iead1 that the 2.1 update wont change color depth on X10 as i can safely conclude this after confirming from many sources, though i am also feeling sad to tell you this but this is a fact.

LOL its really coming....but I have a feeling im gonna be reliving my nexus one moment. When I purchased my Nexus One it came with 2.1 and all the talk and hype was this huge update to froyo...whens froyo? froyo is coming!!! BUT, when I received froyo ota I was major disapointed in it. Traded off my Nexus One, not because froyo was useless to me, but because I was bored. I got the X10, started following you guys on these forums and I noticed 2.1 is on the way....sweet I thought....720p video recording...COOL! But is it only at 24fps? wtf! but hey, its 720p and I wont judge it till I try it. Now, the only other thing I cared about was 16m colors which doesn't look like it will come either. Am I the only one that cares about 16m colors?
Good find, an official SE document saying Single Touch will hopefully shut up all the talks of MT for the time been, and as for the screen colours lets be honest when it comes to 720p its main aim is to be used for puting your video onto the net, not viewing it on a screen that is not really the idea size for it.
I am disappointed as well with not getting 16M colors. That and 720p are the only two upgrades I am mostly looking forward to. I am not sure how much difference 16M colors really brings to the screen(read eye) experience but, the number does give a good feeling about the screen.
The sad part is, I still can't find a more attractive phone I want to jump on at this time even with this disappointment.
Hope SE has a WP7 phone that looks a lot like X10 with better build quality (solid metallic feel), 16M colors, sleeker, front facing camera (does WP7 even support it).
I've read in a few places now that 16m colours is coming with the q4 uxp upgrade... So maybe still some hope for that. Rendering 16m colours probably takes longer and they may need more time to improve the performance?
Hope springs eternal.

Hi everybody, I am starting this thread to discuss the probability of the x10 displaying 16.7m colors. I see there is a lot of confusion as a lot of people say it supports it and a lot say that it doesn't, especially after a member in another thread who has a test version of Android 2.1 has said that there is no color improvement. I wanted to see what everyone knows and if we can figure it out. So please go ahead and share what you know.
SE claims to have it already.
If you can tell the differences between 16 millions against 65k colours, your eyes must be godly.

In that case I have godly eyes, there's fairly distinct banding going on with some images. Gradients tend to look crap on 65K when compared to 16M.
sorry my eye is bad, i can't see the colour differences in normal photo until you see a 1 single color pair right beside another and fading out.
I am not sure about it
Anyway, most images you see on the internet are 16bits.
You can't compare 32 bits with a picture paint on 16 bits. Of course, you won't notice the differences.
I personally drew a CG and placed as my wall paper. When i take it up to my LCD screen to compare there is no differences when i am running 32 bits because i drew it in 16 bits.
I doubt anyone draw stuff on 32 bits, it is a pain at least in photoshop.
You might have to compare it with picture taken as 32 bits vs 16 bits to see it on the 2.1

Most images aren't CG, atleast not in my experience. There's a new fad that's been going around the world for a few years. It's called photography and they say it gives even better pictures than computer generated graphics.
when i said taken, that's what i mean. Take real picture compare to real picture might show the differences. But if you going to compare the little graphic buttons to another button you won't find anything.

They didn't! The screen is supposedly 16M colors, but surpressed by the 1.6 to 65K. That was said long time ago by a reviewer of the phone.
Then it bacame a rumor on every site, and then everybody began to believe it. The truth is out there...somewhere...

My man no need to be rude and post such a useless post. Its just a disscusion that was going on at the 2.1 early update thread that i wanted to move here.

The official word from Sony Ericsson marketing is that the display supports 65,536 colours whereas the SE developers say 16M. Both are correct, in a sense. Marketing is correct in that the device supports 65K and the developers are correct in that the panel supports 16M. The device isn't just the hardware, the software on it is a component and with 1.6 on it it only supports 65K.
This should mean that a decision to ship 2.1 without 16M (if they do so) might not be just technical. Worst case scenario means that you'll have to flash custom ROMs to get full colour depth.
Going by the data currently available on the SE Webiste I would say the screen in NOT capable of 16M colors....becoz the X10 specs on the site clearly say 65K colors ...where as the specs of the X10 Mini (which has the same Android 1.6 color limitation) says 16M colors...
But then i remember seeing a Tweet by SE folks that the screen is 16M capable....Well SE PR has a reputation on being wrong !!!
Most laptops and cheap TN desktop displays claim to support millions of colors, but they do not. Thy are 2XX,XXX or 65,000 and dithered.
6bit + 2bit dithering.

Quick question:
Do you believe in all advertising and that all advertising is completely honest all the time?
Seriously though, just because a spec on a site says something it doesn't necessarily mean that it's true. Websites are created by people and people make mistakes.

SE has gone off their rockers with the 2.1 update. True X10 has a big screen, HTC Desire HD has a bigger one 4.3 and it has 16M colors.
Thinking to upgrading my X10 to HTC Desire HD when it releases in Oct, this one has 2.2 out of the box.
Flash, App2SD, 8M CAM, more memory, FM radio, multi-touch and bigger screen with 16M colors, makes my X10 looks like an extinct dinosaur.

You know... in 6 months, there will be an even better phone, right?
You know... that's how technology works, right?
You know... it's silly to compare year old technology to brand new right?
Nah. I welcome your posts in 6 months, when SE announces the X20, with Android 3.5 out of the box, with support for PlayStation 3 games, super-multi-touch, and a 50mp camera with x-ray vision that makes your Desire HD look like the **** a dinosaur took millions of years ago.
Google provide a compare page where we can compare any android device with the brand new nexus s
what i found out is that our precious X10 can do up to 10 hours of talk time while the brand new Nexus S can only sustain 6 hrs.!!
Also, there is no major change in hardware.
here's the link:
http://www.google.com/phone/compare/?phone=nexus-s&phone=nexus-one&phone=sony-ericsson-xperia-x10
To me, the Nexus S's specification is very mediocre. I would love to rub it in MR's review of the Anzu in the face that even the Nexus S does not require something they are so trying to persuade us with. It's a great piece of hardware though don't get me wrong as I am not bashing on SS, and it just tells us straight forward that this is all that is needed to run 2.3. Unlike someone who bashed on Anzu that it doesn't have Ooh's and Ah's. Well what Ooh's and Ah's does the S has over Anzu or even the X10? may be just NFC and screen(for X10). What does Anzu have over the S? Welp we're about to find out
Yeah, didn't MR say the NS was super advanced? Dual core? These were their reasons for saying the ANZU was doomed?
I'd love to see those asshats eat their words!
Come on unknown13x, what surprises does ANZU have for us?

I totally agree with you here. The NS just showed the entire world that hardware isn't everything. Sometimes it gets to the point where hardware is pointless to move further, and its more about functionality/usability. This is what NS is trying to change, and I have no doubt it will work. Luckily SE and some other brands are going the same path. Unlike some blind place where tech has to be the newest and the best of all times. Tell me what would you use it for, compile codes? encode video? music editing? It's a phone for god's sake. I'm happy to see people are seeing the message from Google's intention that specs isn't everything. They're clearing the cloud to the new models that follow the same footsteps. In my opinion, the release of NS actually sheds light for Anzu to shine too. Since SE will be focusing on the usability/functionality, it is up to them to make sure it is of quality that they always have.

I don't care about resolution. It's going to be at least 480x854, which is plenty good enough imo. Any more is not really noticeable at normal viewing distances and would just lead to unnecessary cpu/gpu load. (again, just imo)

Hmm...not sure about Exmor. Anzu is not camera oriented. It might have the same module as the X10. Just 8MP. There will be something else carrying the Exmor sensor, and it is a full streamed camera oriented device The rest is pretty obvious, so no new info there really...The Xperia lineups will be oriented into different segments. Bravia, Cybershot, etc.

Eventhough the majority over here never takes a se again, i will definitely buy one as soon it hits the market here in Holland, i love the design of it and for me the specs are well enough.
Sent from my x32 using the licking write method....man I am thirsty now!
Why did they leave the ambient light sensor out? So if your standing in the sun, you need to go to the menu and turn the brightness up manually, or else you can't see a thing. Big flaw in my opinion. Someone at Sony Ericsson is making stupid mistakes. Even the old w810 had an ambient light sensor, and that was 5 years ago.
Im also convinced the SE arc is by far the best looking smartphone to date, although the specs look nice at THIS moment, they probably wont anymore once this device launches in a couple of months and as far as i know, here in belgium, such devices launch couple months later than in US.
So, by the summer, when it releases over here, this phone will be "outdated" compared to the other phones coming out in the same period.
I wont buy a SE ever again, their experience and customer service is far below standards.
My next phone will more be something like the Motorola Atrix 4G.
-2x 1ghz dual-core
-1gb ram
-HD camera
-front facing camera (although this is not really needed in my opinion)
-16gb internal + up to 32gb external
-1950 mwat battery
although it looks like overkill atm, this device will last much longer than the arc, only needs software update. (and we all know this probably wont even happen with the Arc...)

You do have to sacrifice on the looks, but the inside will blow away every single device on the market.
I sooo damn want it

Might be an idea to update the first post then with said information, otherwise it's no different to the others that have links to the same information.
When looking at the screenshots of the UI and such I just can't get past the feeling that we X10 users should see the same improvements and tweaks as the Arc. I don't want to turn this into another SE-hatethread, but it just feels wrong. This being my first Android, and smartphone in general, I feel a bit disappointed. But well, I guess you get what you buy.
People who are getting it should be rich to spend a lot of money each 10 months SE releases a successor of their trend phone!
Unfortunately, I'm not rich but besides that, I rather to wait at least one and a half year to get a new phone. I wonder how advanced the smartphones will be by then, and what place the Xperia Arc will have in that time.
Oh, wait... It's gonna be obsolete 'cause it's gonna have a successor already in January 2012!
Seriously, Im not flaming... But I just wish good look to you guys with arc. Hope that SE doesn't do the same mistakes and gives to arc good updates, at least two Android upgrades and more time before replaces it with a new phone.

+1. No doubt it's a really nice phone, but as every other X10 owner knows they dropped the ball with this one, so I'm in no rush to go upgrade just yet.
We have all complained about the first SE android phone the x10, but if we are honest may of us will be upgrading to this baby when our contracts are up.
Lets not forgot SE's first go at the android market, the x10, has not been a bad attempt. If we are honest we all knew that they would not support it for long as they would move on very quickly to the put all they learnt into the next big hope.
And this phone is gorgeous I can quite happy to have the rubbish support, poor customer service and all the other mistakes se made because this phone looks damn good.
While XDA is around if we are honest we couldnt care less about se support as we have this place and it caters for all we need,

I highly doubt many of us will be upgrading to the Arc. From what I've been reading, many existing X10 customers who would frequent forums like this or blog/tweet about their phones (ie: those somewhat more advanced users) have already told SE to go forth an multiply.

Looks aren't everything. Sure, SE makes good looking phones, but what good is that when they saddle the usability with crapware and poor support. It's like having a Porsche with a 150hp engine, what's the point. Besides, if you keep your phone protected by any sort of case or skin, the looks don't matter much when they're covered up. If we wanted something pretty and useless with poor support, we'd by an iPhone.
I love XDA and all the hard work people here have put into improving the X10. But that doesn't excuse SE form having to support their own customers.
On a related note: I have requested with mikechannon that a Xperia Arc forum be setup so that the X10 forum can be kept to X10 discussion.

This is definitely a killer point.
I am one of those who never is going tio buy SE in my whole life, if it depends on me. Its very funny situation. no one has commented that except for the wifi n and the screen it has the same specifications as my x10.....and my x10 is not going tio have gingerbread update....
So you know, go ahead get latest SE thing and get once more outdated the first. Is there in the market any snapdragon stuck in ecclair??? oh yes my x10...
So the next year I am pretty sure if I read one topic of this "new" phone it will be about some update not being ported to arch, although it is capable of this and more.
I think no one should buy a new SE handset, till they change their customer policy. But I know it is an entellechia...

+1. Agree with what you said. If they screw up the upcoming handsets, then they have no excuse and they probably go under. I am sure the execs at Sony understand that full well.

quite, dear sir, quite.
i never liked them..
Why on earth did the Incredible S get 8 points and the Arc 7? Same chips, Arc has a bigger and better screen, better camera, looks great and sleek, comes with 2.3 already (!), only has less RAM. And did they even mention sound/call quality?
Engadget is a bad joke.

But I do agree with them that the videocam is terrible ! I hope they can fix that.
Personally I'd give it 8 out of 10 but that comes from a guy who just ordered one today and cant wait to get it on friday. Guess I "want" it to be 8/10.
Ah what the hell, its gonna be awesome
I love how they wouldnt stop talking about how thin the iphone 4 was but it was barely mentioned in the Arc review and when it was, it was shown in a negative light. The iphone 4 should have gotten a 7 just for the fact that the screen is so bloody small.
Horrible Engadget horrible.
Theres another review over at What Mobile, quite thorough and seems generally positive. They gave the phone a 5 out of 5
Sadly i cant paste links yet, but google sony ericsson arc review and you should see it, or go to What Mobile's site
The only downside to the Arc's buttonry is one we spotted with the Xperia Play as well -- there's no illumination for the key labels in the dark. You get a pair of lights marking the division between each key, but their purpose is basically indecipherable when the phone's used in the dark

I do not bother visiting Engadget any more as they are only positive with Apple products. Time to clean out the reviewers I think and get some fresh faces there that will give us unbiased opinions on new technology from non fan boys.
I was hopping the camera was as good as they were making out it was going to be in there advertising lets hope there can be a software update to improve the quality a little.
Engadget is a good source for review
You can check also CNet UK which give good review
(http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-review-50002090/)
The point is that SE saves money where they should not
Giving little RAM make no sense
It makes the machine slow when running new games or multi-tasking and this is not what the end user want
It is difficult enough to compete with dual-cores so at least give us 512mb or 768mb - this is also probably the reason why the camera video is jerky
Camera also not as good as advertised since small sensor
Nice. I have a feeling that a Factory unlocked Xperia ARC will be my next device . IF the unlock bootlader thing comes out first!
Positive review on Pocket Lint as well.

It's far better than the iPhone 4 camera. I have both.
And the advertisement was mainly in the low light capabilities, where it's FAR better than the iPhone.
i like this thing!! i buy this thing!!

1) arc has 512 ram. all new xperias have 512 ram
2) the camera is awsome, for a phone. there are comparison vids between iphone4 and arc.. you see the difference lol
3) camera is not jerky cuz of low ram. lol. or am i wrong here? but still if it can be, they must have had a ton of apps in the background, since 300+ mb of user available ram is MORE than enough for a friggin camera lol.
Even while multitask-gaming (multiple games open at once) and listening to music and just using my Arc for general stuff, I haven't dropped below 80MB free RAM. And I do not use task killers or kill processes. RAM is really not a problem ATM.
The camera is really, really good for a phone. Only the Nokia N8 has a better camera. Especially in low light, the photos might not be really really good, but they're still by far the best of all mobile phone cameras. In such a small and slim device it's impossible to fit a larger sensor, so it's impossible to get a much better camera anyway.
Camera video jerky? There's a small bug that makes video hang for half a second when switching between very dark and very light images, but that is the only thing I've noticed, and it happens very rarely.

I understand your point but did you even read the article? They gave it a good review. Also to those referring to the number system please remember that the same person does not usually do all phone reviews so they are subjective.

It should be clear by now that this review article, outlived in a day, was a mere April's Fools Day joke. We have a proper Arc review up online, so you should refer to that instead. We're glad you saw the funny side of it. If you are interested, you can find more about the Lorem ipsum dolor text here. To see more of our 1st April's spirit, check out our Genesis tablet.

Yup, Arpil fool. They have a real review up but i can't link it.
The lorem ipsum dolor text is an old Microsoft joke used to display how fonts appear in Word to give the user an idea which font to choose. The text means nothing, it's a bunch of words sounding Latin and therefore important and smart.
