HTCSense.com
With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map. If the phone's been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it. HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.

So will we be seeing this on our incredibles?
I hope so. Did you see the video for the Desire Z w/ the boot "sequence"? WOW.
Linky
"I Hate Web Video Version": You see the "Engadget" logo screen for ~1 sec, fades to phone starting bootup sequence. You see the presenter pull his hand away from the top of the phone where the power button presumably is and the screen go from black to the white background w/ green "HTC" & black "quietly brilliant" text. At the same time he says "I've turned it on... and literally it's ready." Presenter proceeds to unlock the phone ***less than 5 seconds*** into the video.
I really hope they add this sort of function to ours.. The short boot time seems sort of hardware related though. :/

not necessarily, if you change the boot sequence, and disable a lot of the services that initialize during the boot sequence, and put them at the end so they are setting up in the background.
i didn't watch the video, did it show sense starting after he unlocked or was it ready to go right after unlock?
I'm pretty sure we'll get this on the Dinc and every phone that's running Sense...this is XDA Devs after all, nothing escapes the Devs.
I think we have a good chance of seeing this legitly as well... well at least the first part, it reminds me a bit of Apple's MobileMe.
I'd be more worried about VZW taking forever to approve this update.
I want landscape sense like the desire z. ****ing retarded my incredible can't do it.
Wow that bootup time was almost unnoticable. I can do without the droid eye animation if it would just go right to my home screen.
I completely agree with Honestly77. I would love to be able to view the home screen in landscape.

+1. I hate how when your in landscape mode and go into an app it doesnt force the app to change in to landscape. But whatev.
Back on topic I dont think HTC will give us the sence 2.0 or the quick boot. They prob will come out on new phones and we will have to take to XDA for those new goodies. But hopefully HTC lets the newest HTC models they have already released get that update.

I'm just hoping that it's even possible on our phones -- there might be very low level changes required to pull off such quick booting.
I bet we see this. Even though their demo boots literally 10 times faster, we know the hardware is not 10x faster... Although we may aquire it via unofficial rom...

have you ever caught yourself typing a phone number, and for some reason you must leave the phone before saving the number, and then when you come back, the phone is already on standby/lock and the numbers you type has just lost into thin air? it's the same when you're viewing a conversation history in htc messaging. once the phone goes to auto standby/lock, the message you were viewing is gone.
anyone knows the solution to that? thanks.
The FM radio reception of HD2 is bad. The background noise and interruption really pisses you off.
the well known video playback audio delay of about 250 ms issue is by far the most painful, will HTC ever fix it ????

adjust your backlight settings so the phone doesn't go to standby so far. Also turn off the autolock feature and you can manually lock the phone instead.

The same one I wouldn't even know about without reading on here.
for me, the most annoying thing about the hd2 is that the proximity sensor plays games with me sometimes, combined with this useless phonecall-lock-screen (HUGE hang up and unlock buttons!) is really a pain in the ass. if there was just an application that shut off the screen when making a phone call until i press any hardware key...
(and no, i don't want an iphone-looking lockscreen on my htc)

not painful at all if you use tcpmp or coreplayer. just adjust the settings and you're ready to go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7119860&postcount=302
The fact that it only worked as it was supposed to for 30 days. This means that from my 6 months of HD2 experience, only one was proper.
Until we got summer temps here I was maximum satisfied with my HD2: running smoothly, once a month maybe a freeze (to be corrected with batt out). Now, at high summer temps, it´s completely useless: doesn´t charge in the car, freezes when it gets hot in the car in navi-mode (and even without navi on).
This phone is only for polar-researchers ..........
Here are a few off the top of my head...
1) There are no 'real' snooze options when a calendar appointment alert pops up (WORKAROUND: Restored the WM default)
2) The 'Cannot delete SMS messages when saved to SIM card' bug (WORKAROUND: Put SIM card in another phone, delete the message, and put back into the HD2)
3) Not being able to disable the irritating clock 'flip' animation when turning on the screen. (WORKAROUND: ???)
4) When locking the screen, there is no way to set it up so where you can unlock it via just the slider and NOT having to enter in your password (WORKAROUND: ???)
I hate its keyboard its so annoying ..its so innacurate ...whenevrr i use it ...it feels like someone else is typing not me ... ii press j and the keyboard detects it as m ....anyone got any solution ?
use slide-it, slide or type is good for me.
Until now i am sattisfied with the phone after a few cabs like cookie home tab and another radio. I don`t play games and use some apps for news and forum like xda. for me its great, i like the size. One minor thing is a blob in the screen which is expensive to make, because i don`t trust myself to do it.
kk
The only thing for me is the lack of apps and the keyboard could be better...
I'm running Elegancia rom with CHT and its transformed the phone for me, i would have sent it back after a week running a stock rom...
My missus has just got a HD Mini the keyboard is miles better even though its smaller, is it a different screen does anyone know, i've tried all the different sensitivity options with the HD2 and i've got it so its liveable with, but the Mini is much much better out the box...

I agree the keyboard is absolutly crap. I can`t believe that given the amount of ROM updates there has been ( I flash ALOT) that they still haven`t fixed this issue. I hate the Iphone but typing on my misses is perfect. 100% accurate all the time.
To be honest my HD2 keyboard is only any good shortly after flashing a new rom, it seems great for a few days and then slowly deteriates to completely inaccurate and painstaking to type any sort of message. I just don`t bother writing long text messages anymore.
The swype keyboards are just as useless as i can`t see the letters whilst my finger is on the keyboard.

I dont think a WM phone is for you then..............
Most annoying thing about the HD2............. people spending their time moaning about it when they could be sorting out the problem...........
lol... do you also "refuse" to take your car to a shop if something isnt right with it? what a childish attitude. winmo phones are blank slates, they are meant to be customized. if you refuse to do anything to change it to your liking, i suggest getting a blackberry or a sidekick.
anyway... one thing i dont like about the hd2 is the capacitive screen. i like the fact that its glass, but its SO damn inaccurate. i rarely used the hardware keyboard on my touch pro 2, i just tapped out texts with the onscreen keyboard with my thumbnails so its not like i NEED a physical keyboard, i just wish this one was accurate. i wish i could use my thumbnails now, i have more backspaces than actual letters now typing with the pads of my thumbs. ive tried every tweak too, its passable but still infuriating.
oh, another thing i hate- the sound quality. it SUCKS! same story too, ive tried every tweak & its passable, but still crappy.

I had a MyTouch 3G never used the search button EVER for the 8+ months I had it. Now when I got the MyTouch4G I have yet to use the genius button except to try it out.
Does anyone use the button regularly or is it a gimmick that the phone really didn't need?

It's way better than I thought it would be. In the browser and want to turn the WiFi on? Push the Genius button and say "Turn WiFi on". Bang, it turns on. No need to go into settings. Same for bluetooth and GPS. Want to open an app? For the sake of example, push the Genius button and say "Show me Angry Birds". Bam, you're flinging and busting in seconds. The Genius button can do a lot more than the few little examples we've already seen. So handy.

I tried to give the genius button a go. Every time I click on it I have to wait for it to sync my contacts. Takes to long for me, maybe there is a setting I missed. Been using Vlingo. Now that is an awesome app.
I thought it was a gimmick, but I use hands free mode every day! I love being able to hold text conversations without having to even look at my phone.
Also, since I learned I can open any app with it, I've been using it more.
I had played with the genius button on my gf's myTouch Slide and wasn't impressed, but the new version on the MT4G is sweet! You should give it a shot.
BTW, as far as activating your contacts every time you open it. Hit menu while you are in the genius app, go to phonebook updates, configure and select manual. That way it will never do that again. You just have to remember to update it whenever you add a new contact.

This basically sums up my thoughts exactly. Once I started messing with it, I found the feature to be really useful. Using it in the car through a bluetooth headset is the best since I don't have to worry about texting while driving.
how do you actually get it to send a text through the genius button, i can get it to put in the recipients name and message but i actually have to press send, and cool didnt know it could do all the other functions like opening up apps and turning on wifi
You can tell it to turn on the flashlight too.

Listen, fellas. Look at the 4 options on the screen when pressing Genius and just try to memorize them. Then, say 'more options' for the next 4 options and memorize them. Those 8 options make for a very powerful set of options. For instance, you can change to handsfree mode, in which case all calls and messages are read aloud. Very cool. Can Vlingo do all this, or even Google Search? It seems Genius is very integrated into the system.
I use it all the time when I'm driving.. the hands free mode is awesome.. now only if there was a app that can drive my car to work in the morning while i sit back and chill.. this phone would be awesomer !! but till this magic app comes available then the phone is just awesome.

Genius button is going to come in handy this winter when I have gloves on outside waiting for the train. Can do stuff you'd otherwise need touch screen for like launching apps, changing settings. (Espresso doesn't let you use optical trackpad to select icons on home screens, tho LauncherPro does.)

yeah, i accidentally took a screen shot somehow when i was running bionix v 1.2 (i think that was the rom i was on). no clue how i did it and couldn't do it again, but it was some key combo...

I'm fairly certain it's because of lag. On the international galaxy S with froyo, you press the home button (the big thing in the middle of the touch sensitive keys) and back. This happens because the home key is not a touch sensitive key. On the vibrant the keys are all touch sensitive. I believe that they are not multitouch so you cannot hit both the home and back at the same time. So I think that somehow the home command is hanging up and the back key is pressed so it simulates the action that is supposed to give the screen shot. I think that samsung recognized this flaw and redid the commands on the galaxy tab. My tab takes screenshots by pressing the power and back.

sounds likely because my phone was lagging when i did it, but wouldn't that just cause a race condition? or maybe i running an i9k based kernel (i can't remember).
Your theory is probably fact. There are people with some SGS phones that claim they can take screenshots consistently with back+home while others, myself included took a screenshot accidentally and have been unable to reproduce it since. I recall that I had just upgraded to froyo.ka6 via mini kies and was adding/rearranging shortcuts to one of my home screens. I hit the home key to get back to my main home screen and I got a screen shot. Haven't been able to do it again.
Since my Vibrant came with Eclair and was later upgraded to Froyo I believe that this was a feature that just wasn't meant for Vibrant or just was overlooked when Samsung ported Froyo to Vibrant. This feature probably works reliably on phones that come stock with Froyo, not those that are upgraded to Froyo. It's almost as if Samsung wasn't planning on Froyo for the Vibrant but due to the outcry here and possibly other forums Samsung hastily modified the base Froyo and released it via kies mini.
ScreenCapture service is there, just no documentation exists on how to trigger it for Vibrant.
There is apparently one developer who has figured how to trigger the ScreenCapture service:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/screen-...tomorrowkey.android.screencaptureshortcutfree
The only screen capture app that DOES NOT require root but requires Froyo..It even saves to the same directory as ScreenCapture service. I use the free version and it works better than drocap2 or screenshot it on my Vibrant.
App looks interesting, but I don't agree with some of the permissions it requests..... like location and full internet access.
Another vote for home+back key combo taking a screenshot, and that functionality being crippled due to the all touch-sensitive vibrant keys as opposed to the physical i9000 home key. I have taken a screenshot before, and it was going back home by hitting the home button, then the app lagging and me hitting the back button to try to get out of the app.

I don't agree with the permissions either but it's nothing nefarious. It's ad-supported freeware, and like most adware the internet access and location permissions is to deliver targeted ads to you, such as if you're in New York you will then see ads for places near you. That's what adware is all about, no corporation cares where you are at any given time, they just want your money. There is a higher chance of success that you will respond to an advertisement that is targeted to your interests (that's what tracking cookies are for, if you browse a lot of sports related sites, most of the ads you will see will be sports related.)
The paid version has no ads btw. I wonder how effective ads are since most people I know ignore them entirely.
Anyway, after trying drocap2 and screenshotit screencaptureshortcut is still better for froyo since no root access is require and unlike drocap2 there is no 'screenshot captured' pasted on your images.
So far the best screen capture imo is Android SDK but that requires a PC. Non-PC is screencaptureshortcut.
Anyway now that one developer has figured out how to trigger ScreenCapture service I'm sure we'll be seeing more and better apps soon.
Mysterious screen shot has been happening to me too, I thought I was the only one!
Was searching for an answer to my mystery and I see this old thread, seems like I'm not the only one!!!
Is the mystery solved yet? It's been happening to me too lately, and just happened again about 20 mins ago. I don't know how I did it!
Ok so, I don't have any screen shot or screen capture apps installed on my phone. Yet sometimes mysteriously I take a screen capture. The phone says "screen captured" and it even makes an album in my gallery called "ScreenCapture" with the screen captured picture inside it.
I'm on rooted Froyo 2.2 KB5, and no screen capture apps installed.
I think the mystery involves a combination of the power button with one of the capactive buttons, but I can never reproduce it, it just happens by accident and freaks me out.
The only other time my phone has done something mysterious was when I somehow went into "safemode." Yes, "safemode" similar to Windows safemode. I have never been able to get back into safemode either.
2 mysteries of this phone I would love to solve.

I don't think its been solved
I just downloaded an app to take screenies.
Hey guys, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of fix or mod I can do to make my home screen not reload all the time. It's frustrating going into an app for a second and going back to home and having it load which usually takes the majority of the time I have the phone on. Doesn't really matter what app I open, it will even do it coming from settings.
Now I did research this a bit and I don't have any task killers or many widgets on the home screen, to be honest, the stock oem home screen setup has more widgets and whatnot than I do. Can't I increase the cache size or something? Memory space has never been a problem with this phone, in fact I hardly even get over 100mb of used RAM. BTW, every ROM I've flashed has been like this, I'm hoping the stock ROM isn't like this too, its just plain annoying.
Thanks

Which rom do you want to use? You can possibly fix it with certain setting depending on which rom. Also are you just using the stock laucher that comes with each rom? Or do u install a preferred one?
Sent from my Incredible!
He's talking like he's using Sense. To be clear, are you talking about widgets refreshing like with contacts, bookmarks, locations, weather, and the like? The best way to avoid information and widgets being refreshed all the time is to use as much memory as possible all of the time. What's you're looking at is the result of garbage collection... The kernel is tossing out items from memory that haven't been used in a certain amount of time or are assumed to be "stale" information. That kind of garbage collection is set to expire fairy quickly because the first time your calendar widget waits 2 or 3 hours to update and you missed your appointment or date, you'd really wish it didn't wait so long to refresh that data. I'm not sure what can be done to avoid that being the case, but I know it's been a minor irritation to some for a long time. I'm sure if there was an easy fix we'd have seen it by now from HTC themselves. It's commonly sited in reviews as a weakness of the UI compared to iFone.
Hey there,
Was wondering if anyone has found a fix for this yet.
I am having the same problem. If I enter any app and then go back to the home screen, I get the white screen with the green "HTC" logo, then the background appears and reloads everything. It has gotten to the point that every time I open an app it needs to reload. I recently factory reset and changed the SD card to try and fix it, but no luck.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post, hope there is a fix.

I have stock sense and it happens to me every so often too. Maybe once a day so its barely noticable but I always wonder why it does it. Seems to be random and like other poster says I'm either backing out of settings or an app then the htc screen appears and the home page resets all the app icons. Only started doing this after the OTA so maybe something to do with memory management as previously stated in another post.

It hasn't done it in a very long time now. At least a week so not sure what was causing it. I did delete some apps, Netflix being one of them, that I no longer used but I never had Netflix running when it did it.
Problem was a task manager/quick launch app that turned my home button into more like an Alt-Tab. I have since reflashed a new Rom and haven't installed a task manager, and no problems at all. Must have been closing launcher causing it to reboot.

The original Navigation (The blue arrow) app was awesome. It had live traffic updates and would re-route automatically and never dropped signal!
Now Google forced this new app on us, Navigation is no more but has now merged into Google Maps (it's a good thing but it's in beta)
Why the hell would I want to use a beta app?
BUGS ENCOUNTERED:
- If you manually press the power button to turn off the screen (whilst using the navigation), the route guidance will reset back to 'Select Destination' when you turn the screen back on!
That's so annoying and dangerous for me especially when you're on the motorway doing 70mph!!!
- Once you enter your destination and select 'Start' on the bottom right, there's a 50% chance the app will force the shutdown of the app.
This has happened often to me 50/50. Worst thing about it is, you can't just re-open the app or disable/enable GPS to fix this bug, you have to reboot your bloody phone!
- Map Orientation view messes up
Even though the original Navigation app had this bug, it was not as common as it is now. Also, there's a bigger delay in automated view change (when you turn direction, etc) This causes problems which forces you to zoom out of the route guide just to see ahead because the app is so stupidly slow to change direction at your pace.
- Stupid places of interest that you don't give a @~!* about!
Why can't I choose what I want to see on my map! I don't care about the best bars and shops in town when I'm on a mission!
Orientation bug is the worst and most annoying for me. Its never the constant behind the back POV... which is ANNOYING!
However, when I press the power button (while in navigation) so I can turn off the screen, and subsequently turn back on the screen, Maps FCs. Always. Once again, ANNOYING.
I felt like Google took 2 steps forward and 3 steps back with this one (while trying to hard to compete with Apple Maps).
Powering off the screen whilst navigating doesn't FC for me, but when I turn the screen back on, I have to click on maps to get navigation back, annoying

I did, I told them to give me back the old version and go beta test it on people who actually want to beta test it..
Remove new version and search for the old apk and don't update it .

That's very helpful feedback. They can take that right there and use it to improve the app. Not that stuff in the first post. That's useless information. Nope. The most useful information you can give them is a good whinge and a demand the old stuff back. Pfft, feedback, what's that?
Guys, it's this simple
Settings/application manager/maps/uninstall updates.......navigation comes back as separate app
So simple

But Slappy, do you really think someone who gave this as feedback on how to improve the app has the intelligence to know that?
Also the app will have passed Google's in house testing, they however don't have every single Android device, and every single stock and custom rom in existence therefore there could be device specific problems, have you asked people using other devices if they see the same problems?
After a large scale update most apps have teething problems, but they will fix them very soon.

That's how I did it. Then used Titanium backup to detach maps from the market. No more updates
