I don't have the app and I did these screens using a combo of home and back button. I'm more than positive those are the two to success.

Most people have come to the same consensus but no one (as far as I know) has been able to reproduce the screen shot feature effectively.
yeah, i accidentally took a screen shot somehow when i was running bionix v 1.2 (i think that was the rom i was on). no clue how i did it and couldn't do it again, but it was some key combo...
Any idea how to capture videos with at least 24 fps?

I'm fairly certain it's because of lag. On the international galaxy S with froyo, you press the home button (the big thing in the middle of the touch sensitive keys) and back. This happens because the home key is not a touch sensitive key. On the vibrant the keys are all touch sensitive. I believe that they are not multitouch so you cannot hit both the home and back at the same time. So I think that somehow the home command is hanging up and the back key is pressed so it simulates the action that is supposed to give the screen shot. I think that samsung recognized this flaw and redid the commands on the galaxy tab. My tab takes screenshots by pressing the power and back.

sounds likely because my phone was lagging when i did it, but wouldn't that just cause a race condition? or maybe i running an i9k based kernel (i can't remember).
Your theory is probably fact. There are people with some SGS phones that claim they can take screenshots consistently with back+home while others, myself included took a screenshot accidentally and have been unable to reproduce it since. I recall that I had just upgraded to froyo.ka6 via mini kies and was adding/rearranging shortcuts to one of my home screens. I hit the home key to get back to my main home screen and I got a screen shot. Haven't been able to do it again.
Since my Vibrant came with Eclair and was later upgraded to Froyo I believe that this was a feature that just wasn't meant for Vibrant or just was overlooked when Samsung ported Froyo to Vibrant. This feature probably works reliably on phones that come stock with Froyo, not those that are upgraded to Froyo. It's almost as if Samsung wasn't planning on Froyo for the Vibrant but due to the outcry here and possibly other forums Samsung hastily modified the base Froyo and released it via kies mini.
ScreenCapture service is there, just no documentation exists on how to trigger it for Vibrant.
There is apparently one developer who has figured how to trigger the ScreenCapture service:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/screen-...tomorrowkey.android.screencaptureshortcutfree
The only screen capture app that DOES NOT require root but requires Froyo..It even saves to the same directory as ScreenCapture service. I use the free version and it works better than drocap2 or screenshot it on my Vibrant.
App looks interesting, but I don't agree with some of the permissions it requests..... like location and full internet access.
Another vote for home+back key combo taking a screenshot, and that functionality being crippled due to the all touch-sensitive vibrant keys as opposed to the physical i9000 home key. I have taken a screenshot before, and it was going back home by hitting the home button, then the app lagging and me hitting the back button to try to get out of the app.

I don't agree with the permissions either but it's nothing nefarious. It's ad-supported freeware, and like most adware the internet access and location permissions is to deliver targeted ads to you, such as if you're in New York you will then see ads for places near you. That's what adware is all about, no corporation cares where you are at any given time, they just want your money. There is a higher chance of success that you will respond to an advertisement that is targeted to your interests (that's what tracking cookies are for, if you browse a lot of sports related sites, most of the ads you will see will be sports related.)
The paid version has no ads btw. I wonder how effective ads are since most people I know ignore them entirely.
Anyway, after trying drocap2 and screenshotit screencaptureshortcut is still better for froyo since no root access is require and unlike drocap2 there is no 'screenshot captured' pasted on your images.
So far the best screen capture imo is Android SDK but that requires a PC. Non-PC is screencaptureshortcut.
Anyway now that one developer has figured out how to trigger ScreenCapture service I'm sure we'll be seeing more and better apps soon.
Mysterious screen shot has been happening to me too, I thought I was the only one!
Was searching for an answer to my mystery and I see this old thread, seems like I'm not the only one!!!
Is the mystery solved yet? It's been happening to me too lately, and just happened again about 20 mins ago. I don't know how I did it!
Ok so, I don't have any screen shot or screen capture apps installed on my phone. Yet sometimes mysteriously I take a screen capture. The phone says "screen captured" and it even makes an album in my gallery called "ScreenCapture" with the screen captured picture inside it.
I'm on rooted Froyo 2.2 KB5, and no screen capture apps installed.
I think the mystery involves a combination of the power button with one of the capactive buttons, but I can never reproduce it, it just happens by accident and freaks me out.
The only other time my phone has done something mysterious was when I somehow went into "safemode." Yes, "safemode" similar to Windows safemode. I have never been able to get back into safemode either.
2 mysteries of this phone I would love to solve.

With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map. If the phone's been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it. HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.

So will we be seeing this on our incredibles?
I hope so. Did you see the video for the Desire Z w/ the boot "sequence"? WOW.
Linky
"I Hate Web Video Version": You see the "Engadget" logo screen for ~1 sec, fades to phone starting bootup sequence. You see the presenter pull his hand away from the top of the phone where the power button presumably is and the screen go from black to the white background w/ green "HTC" & black "quietly brilliant" text. At the same time he says "I've turned it on... and literally it's ready." Presenter proceeds to unlock the phone ***less than 5 seconds*** into the video.
I really hope they add this sort of function to ours.. The short boot time seems sort of hardware related though. :/

not necessarily, if you change the boot sequence, and disable a lot of the services that initialize during the boot sequence, and put them at the end so they are setting up in the background.
i didn't watch the video, did it show sense starting after he unlocked or was it ready to go right after unlock?
I'm pretty sure we'll get this on the Dinc and every phone that's running Sense...this is XDA Devs after all, nothing escapes the Devs.
I think we have a good chance of seeing this legitly as well... well at least the first part, it reminds me a bit of Apple's MobileMe.
I'd be more worried about VZW taking forever to approve this update.
I want landscape sense like the desire z. ****ing retarded my incredible can't do it.
Wow that bootup time was almost unnoticable. I can do without the droid eye animation if it would just go right to my home screen.

+1. I hate how when your in landscape mode and go into an app it doesnt force the app to change in to landscape. But whatev.
Back on topic I dont think HTC will give us the sence 2.0 or the quick boot. They prob will come out on new phones and we will have to take to XDA for those new goodies. But hopefully HTC lets the newest HTC models they have already released get that update.

I'm just hoping that it's even possible on our phones -- there might be very low level changes required to pull off such quick booting.
I bet we see this. Even though their demo boots literally 10 times faster, we know the hardware is not 10x faster... Although we may aquire it via unofficial rom...

The DX specific changes with the Froyo update that I've noticed:
• Better text zoom bubble for cursor placement and text selection. Faster. Nicely shifted up, so not as covered by finger.
• Swype looks nicer, also seems quicker/smoother.
• Clock in notif bar now shows AM/PM (seems a waste of space).
Anything else that's not general to Froyo?
e.g.
A couple of more that I noticed....
- Lock screen is different.
- Some minor changes to gmail(even before the new 2.2 version of gmail). You can now click to the next message without going back to the inbox first.
In addition to what you guys mentioned... the gallery has changed, they added a file explorer program, and the phone seems to run quite a bit faster (I'm using LauncherPro Plus, not the stock launcher). They said they were going to improve the weather and calendar widgets, but I didn't notice any change.
New camera app that was in the leaked build?
Don't notice any difference in Files program, using LauncherPro but not plus. Phone seems to respond faster. Quadrant up from 1290's to 1400+ however stopping services seems slower?
How are you guys getting 1400+ in Quadrant? My highest run was 1375. So far FroYo has been good except I'm not sure if I like the removal of the .com button in the browser keyboard.

Reran Quadrant now 1445,seems to getting faster, previous run was 1403.
Quadrant up to 1513 then , when pressing menu button settings was unresponsive so rebooted , now working ,will monitor , quadrant now high 1390's FWIW
Now back up to high 1400's , phone is stable and everything's appears to be working. Youtube is great.
Holding down "Home" button gives you a Recent App window. Somewhat same as before but I think it looks nicer.

They changed the way the period and comma work. Before you could double tap that button to switch between period and comma, now its period by default and you have to long press for other punctuation. Overall I find it a little annoying and makes it take longer for me to text because I have to wait for a comma.
Also they changed something with the autocorrect/predictive text but I'm not exactly sure how. All I know is,sometimes after I'm done typing a text, I hit done, go to hit send (muscle memory, without looking at the screen) and somehow accidentally end up changing a word in the text message based off of a predictive text list that is still active underneath the text window. I'm not sure why it stays afterwards.

Pandora works fine for me, although lately I've gotten a lot of error messages in the beginning when I First open it, but they don't seem to affect playback. I haven't really tried many MP3s, but I have noticed videos, specifically videos that I actually took with the camera, are giving me that exact same behavior. It says it's unsupported, and then if I reboot it works for a little while, then stops working again.
Have any of you gone from the 2.2 leak to 2.2 OTA? The OTA will have a newer kernel and baseband and I am curious to know if a performance increase is noticeable going from the Leak to OTA.
I have this problem. Had to reset the phone to get it to stop. Very annoying issue.

It's way better than I thought it would be. In the browser and want to turn the WiFi on? Push the Genius button and say "Turn WiFi on". Bang, it turns on. No need to go into settings. Same for bluetooth and GPS. Want to open an app? For the sake of example, push the Genius button and say "Show me Angry Birds". Bam, you're flinging and busting in seconds. The Genius button can do a lot more than the few little examples we've already seen. So handy.

I tried to give the genius button a go. Every time I click on it I have to wait for it to sync my contacts. Takes to long for me, maybe there is a setting I missed. Been using Vlingo. Now that is an awesome app.
I thought it was a gimmick, but I use hands free mode every day! I love being able to hold text conversations without having to even look at my phone.
Also, since I learned I can open any app with it, I've been using it more.
I had played with the genius button on my gf's myTouch Slide and wasn't impressed, but the new version on the MT4G is sweet! You should give it a shot.
BTW, as far as activating your contacts every time you open it. Hit menu while you are in the genius app, go to phonebook updates, configure and select manual. That way it will never do that again. You just have to remember to update it whenever you add a new contact.

This basically sums up my thoughts exactly. Once I started messing with it, I found the feature to be really useful. Using it in the car through a bluetooth headset is the best since I don't have to worry about texting while driving.
how do you actually get it to send a text through the genius button, i can get it to put in the recipients name and message but i actually have to press send, and cool didnt know it could do all the other functions like opening up apps and turning on wifi
You can tell it to turn on the flashlight too.

Listen, fellas. Look at the 4 options on the screen when pressing Genius and just try to memorize them. Then, say 'more options' for the next 4 options and memorize them. Those 8 options make for a very powerful set of options. For instance, you can change to handsfree mode, in which case all calls and messages are read aloud. Very cool. Can Vlingo do all this, or even Google Search? It seems Genius is very integrated into the system.
I use it all the time when I'm driving.. the hands free mode is awesome.. now only if there was a app that can drive my car to work in the morning while i sit back and chill.. this phone would be awesomer !! but till this magic app comes available then the phone is just awesome.

Hey thanks for the tip on manual contact voice activation. Didn't think to hit menu in the Genius app.
Just wanted to give some people a heads up on WHY this happens
It isn't your kernel or ROM to blame, it happens because of android coding.
Anyone who's ever used WidgetLocker may recall that they call this the "5 second rule."
Basically when you press home, Android disallows any apps to do anything for about 5 seconds, this includes long pressing home to bring up most recently viewed apps.
WidgetLocker has a way to bypass this, and I believe a few other apps do it (ones that rely on the home key... I think QuickDesk might). I'm unaware of any app that's sole purpose is to do this.
Hope this helps someone
Thanks. I was going crazy trying to figure out why long pressing to access the task manager was not consistent.
And yes, this 5 second rule applies to many services, including hidden APIs for shutting down the screen. Apparently there are no official APIs for this but the hidden APIs requires a small delay (about 5 seconds).
wow, I really thought it was the kernel because this only happen to me when I'm with the OS kernel so I'm ending up flashing the stock kernel. nice.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the 5 second rule through widget locker, but I didn't know it ran that deep in the system.
But i never use widegt locker and b4 bi-winning i was running trigger with tiger kernel and home long press was fine it is the kernel caus when i first swtiched from os to tiger u could tell the difference its so annoying but i love os with bi-winning just wish that didnt happen

Hi!
I'm new to the XDA forums.
I have noticed a strange behaviour using buttons while exit applications on KitKat. The issue was not present in Jelly Bean, while I can notice it in KitKat. I thought it was a minor 4.4 bug, but it's still present in 4.4.2 too.
I am running Android 4.4.2 on a Nexus 4, no root, no system modifications at all.
Steps to reproduce the bug:
- Go to your home screen.
- Tap on battery settings from the quick settings dropdown menu;
- Use home button to come back to the home screen;
- Once again, tap on battery settings from the quick settings dropdown menu;
- This time, use back button to go back;
- Enjoy another background app opening for a second with no reason before going back to your home screen.
I cannot post videos since I'm a new user, but if you wanna check, the youtube code for it is 40Rs6vnx_Wc
Thanks in advance!
No one?
Yes, I've reproduced that but why should it be a bug? Or may be you should learn how the back button in android works? Why do you use it at all when you have the home button and the fast app switching button? It's a matter of time for the back button to be dropped down. Unless of course the "only one home button" thing is not patented by Apple so that back button has to stay. Remember what happened with the search button? It's gone for good. And really that back button is only useful in browsers or if you want to go backwards a sequence of actions inside a single app. Most apps use the back button to quit or run in the background.

@mananbond007, thanks for taking the time to checking it out
No hatred matey. It's just one of those days... You know. Last night I went to the cinema and watched The Hobbit, had only a couple of hours to sleep, woke up early... Usual stuff.
Oh, and do you know what? It could be a bug... Why don't you report it to Google or to a bug tracker? Have you checked all available 4.4.2 ROMs if they are infected with it or someone has already found a cure? Or why don't you exploit it further and write a dirty little app to gain control over people's phones through this flaw? And how the f*ck did you even find it? Sounds like an incredible amount of spare time on your hands to me. Or just a pattern based repetitive clicks due to lack of "some more important things to do"?

Thank you, @andr0idfreak
In the meantime, I have filed a bug in the AOSP issue tracker. Its number is 63570.

Thank you so much about that comparison. I like it and I wouldn't be able to think of a better phrase to describe myself. And do you know why I like it so much??? ...OFC you don't. Because Kuoshik Dutta used to be called exactly the same by many people recently and still he is one of the best developers out there. That makes me feel one step closer to the gods. Off the off-topic.
Sorry but I couldn't understand what's your opinion about the bug?

Same here, it opens the last app. Can someone provide a link so I can report the bug with that number? 63570

I don't have that bug!
According to the bug report, it looks like the bug has been assigned to a Google engineer.
Same bug here but it happens often and with many apps. Going back and a cached app appears for a second
