After seeing seeing pictures of the new Desire HD and all the updates to HTC Sense I'm wondering
Would it be possible to get the Desire HD's rom working on the EVO? or maybe just the Sense?
I agree with this!
Is that an Evo in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
I just read that HTC is upgrading sense and implementing several new features. Not sure if or when the upgrade will come but if it does I imagine what you are seeing on the desire is what we will be getting.
And I'm still not going to use it.
the new camera app looks much sleeker. let's hope it improves the quality.
the desire rom looks extremely improved. they added app links to the notification panel a la galaxy s, something that was requested here many times. they fixed peep, added blocked callers, htc hub, htc likes, and probably more we couldn't see from the short hands-on.
they also aded Dlna and xdiv support
Does dlna require any additional HW? Because I would love to have it on the Evo

already it seems the htc legend is missing out on features compared to the N1 and desire because of its inferior specs.
one of them is the Live Wallpapers which is just a gimmick BUT it's a display of what the phone is capable of.
and Google Earth seems to not work on the legend also due to the inferior specssssssssssssssssssssssssss..........
Now the phone new and already it is not capable of running some things.
I get the feeling that we will begin to see more and more apps in the future that the phone will not be able to handle.. i also wonder if there are any apps that im unaware of that are currently needing the superior processors.
for those of you in the "legend vs. desire brain fu*k", leaning towards legend, i apologise if this has put you back at square one. Im in the same boat. because the desire is long and ugly like peter crouch.
i dont Know what to buy too im not an Apple fan boy but when they make a new device it is the one to have. htc make good things but im very disappointed to have to choose between an ugly monster and a beautiful device but not so good...
i'm worried its screen resolution limits its full potential......
Got my Legend two weeks now an everything runs smooth!
No lag since it has dedicated GPU. As for the Live Wallpapers rooting will come
and you can install them. Hero can run Live Wallpapers why should legend be any different?

i was talking compared to desire i didnt realise he said hero. i doubt hero runs smooth with live wallpapers when it hardly runs smooth anyway.
I miss the google earth on legend....
I think Legend is capable of runing google earth, but that the program itself is bugged or dont let the legend use it.
There is many apps that dont work on legen, nexus etc but we all know they are capable. I think earth will get an update that fixes it on the legend, the gpu is capable to deal with it or, at the least, start it. I think google has done something to prevent earth on legend atm.
I'm perfectly happy with my Legend. Believe me, working in the mobile industry I have been through a few different models for sure, I've had the best, the worst and the bizarre at some point...
If the phone you have bought does everything you want to do today, then you have made a good purchase and will no doubt be happy with it.
If the phone you bought today will hopefully do everything that the future brings, you made a mistake my friend and I suggest you return it.
In terms of mobile phone technology, there is no future-proof.
Man there is a new phone out every quarter so I'd so no.
Nothing in tech is future proof .
first time i post on forums and i post to sat That i think legend is a pretty good smartphone if You wanna be future safe

I need to choose between one of these two phones. Witch one is the best? Is Desire supported in this site as N1?
Thanks 4 your help
Unless you can get a subsidy on the Desire, I say get the Nexus One.
The desire has hardware buttons on the front instead of the capacitive software buttons that the N1 has (the N1 buttons aren't the best) and a trackpad instead of a trackball, which should be less prone to failure down the road (though I'm basing that on BlackBerry's rather than HTC's history). And the Desire has an FM radio.
The N1 on the other hand has much better support from Google for software updates, better support in the community for customizing, better accessories, and no custom UI. Sense UI is the best of the custom UIs and it ads some nice touches, but the vanilla android experience feels a lot less bloated to me.

Do you want Sense UI? Then get the Desire otherwise get the N1.
I always say to my friends (UK), if you have the choice, get the N1, but you also wouldnt be dissapointed with a desire.

I've just been reading a review of the HTC Wildfire which is HTCs new budget android device... they seem to think its a lot better than the Tattoo. The specs though are very similar except it has a bit more RAM and a decent camera.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting comparison and shows what the Tattoo can still do especially as the chipsets are the same. I hope with a Froyo release for the Tattoo it can show its potential!

Apart from being able to pinch zoom who cares? And with a 3.2 inch screen anyway I don't think its the going to be beating an iPhone for web browsing just because it has multi touch lol. My point is that the Tattoo can be brought up to the same level with a complete 2.1/2.2 update.
Maybe that "bit more RAM" is necessary to have 2.1 and sense working fine.
But i'm not sure

yes but in my opinion it won't arrive!
instead htc assured froyo for device from genuary 2010 excluding tattoo that exited on november/december 2009 -.-
i'm not talking about hardware that is almost the same but the support won't be the same for these devices...
do not forget wildfire start with a 2.1 upgradeable to 2.2
and the cost is almost the same for both devices...
Not from HTC it won't... but the development team here are almost there anyway so hopefully a fully working ROM will be here soon without the need for HTC!
And I think you're missing my point. Im just saying that the new device is basically the same as the Tattoo. Im not saying sombody should go out now and buy a Tattoo, that would be stupid lol.
HTC Wildfire is what the Tattoo should have been.
I'm not convinced in upgrading to the Wildfire just to replace my dying Tattoo.
People, I'm quite sure that HTC won't update Wildfire to 2.2. They will just leave it behind like they left behind the Tattoo! They clearly said that they will update most of the phones released in 2010...I don't know, but I sense that the wildfire users will be as disappointed as we were when they said that 2.1 isn't going to come for our tattoos...

I couldn't say that any better. 100% agree. I think there are basicly two type of needs/users.
One is what I call the "leisure" user (that could be myself on week ends) who wants a ample web browsing, full multimedia, multiple messaging (SMS's and chat), gaming, and so on. For these users, iPhone 3g/3gs/4, Nexus One, or alike any of both is the choice.
Another one is my so called "working" user (myself monday to friday), when your needs are mostly email (mostly exchange and push), quick browsing, mapping or navigation, shopping lists, to do lists, calendars, reminders, transportation routing or schedule querying, not too ambicious web browsing, some music/sudokuing is well appreciated. For this use, Tattoo-like->Wildfire is simply perfect: does it all, with no excess luggage (weight/size).
I don't know if I should say pitty or shame on HTC for releasing a device that in a very few months will be improved to the obsolecense point. We all know that in consumer technology you will never catch up with the very best, but HTC guys, we should be happy at least for one year. Is it to ask for too much? Did they invent the "decent camera" last week so it is just now that you could include it in your phones, or couldn't you do that on the Tattoo? And cant't you upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2? You HTC want to tell us that you can't do what some cooks on XDA have already done? I am certain that these guys are very well prepared, qualified and smart, no doubt on it, but what they do is some kind of hobby on their spare time, and they are charging not a cent!
Well, my hope like many others, is on these magnificent guys cooking new ROMs for all of us (hopefully we will have a 2.1 or 2.2 fully functional), and as some other dudes already have expressed, Tattoo might well be my last HTC device.
I think tattoo is lack of screen resolution and size of the screen other than it's good if you just work around with roms and install market patched hopefully soon we will have 2.2 or 2.1 fully working custom Roms with market patched and it will be really cool
But htc should do something about tattoo they can't just leave tattoo in blank
don't think on buying a wildfire. haven't you got enough with Tattoo? save some more money and buy a nexus one or an iphone, they are truly speedy and better quality

HTC Officially released Android froyo (2.2) update for wildfire in europe. Just check below link,
http://www.htc.com/europe/support.aspx?type=Others
Soon to india.. wait.
Which one do you think is better, and why? I'm leaning towards the HTC because I'm a sucker for HTC Sense. Any chance Sense will be ported to The Xoom? Any word on the Wifi-Only pricing? I heard it will be about $640 for the 32GB, anyone know if that's true? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.
P.S. Mods, if this is against the rules, I'm sorry. Feel free to delete if it is. However, if you'd show mercy and not delete it, I would greatly appreciate that!

Pretty unlikely that the Xoom will get Sense, that hasn't really been ported to any device other than HTC's. With the xoom you get stock google experience, so it gets updated first, Flyer when HTC chooses. I have heard that the Xoom wifi will be $540 at Sam's Club, but just a rumor so who knows for sure? Not us... I love my Xoom, yes it has some issues but I feel those will be addressed in a couple weeks with the first update.

The Xoom suddenly sounds a lot better.
First off, HTC sense CAN get ported and has gotten ported to devices other than HTC products. Also HTC is doing away with dual core and using a single core 1.5 ghz chip. And they aren't touching gingerbread and using a heavily modified 2.2.3 or some ****. I'm taking a **** right now

The Flyer is actually running a modified 2.3 build with a tablet-specific version of Sense.
Sense eventually will come to the Xoom via some kinda port, but HTC has to release a tablet with 3.0 and Sense first. They have yet to even build Sense for 3.0 so it won't necessarily be available at the moment...
OP, these aren't really comparable imho. The Flyer is only 7" and runs 2.3 like I said and has a single core 1.5ghz processor, and the Xoom is 10" with 3.0 and running a dual core 1ghz processor. It really comes down to which size you prefer and how important 3.0 is to you.
Also, based on some rumors, the Flyer is not going to be much cheaper than the Xoom, which is kinda disappointing considering its only 7" and has a single-core processor.
I thought flyer had gingerbread -> honeycomb - not Froyo - so 2.3.3 not 2.2.3...?
Also I thought about this same question myself....
I came to the conclusion that:
1) I am using the tablet 99% of the time at home (so a bigger screen would be better, aka Xoom 10" over Flyer 7"
2) I won't be needing a 3g/data bundle as if I do need to then I'll use my phone - either Xoom or Flyer would be ok here.
3) I'm not overly bothered by note-taking or playing around with the pen - don't get me wrong, its an amazing feature if it works well as expected - but it's not that important to me (Xoom)
If I was out and about and wanting to make some quick notes in a meeting or such - then the Flyer would win in my opinion.
As I am going to be using it as a home-device in place of a laptop probably - then the Xoom with its larger screen wins it for me.

This is correct. Coming out with 2.3 + Tablet Sense. But I'm unsure on its upgrade path to 3.0.
Pretty sure HTC have said they'll be upgrading the Flyer to Honeycomb but they haven't given a date. Since they first need to port Sense to it, it might be a while.
Flyer looks like a good product but I'm not a fan of the 7th inch form factor.

I recall them saying that too.
Realistically Honeycomb will probably be at least 3 months from Xoom release - that seems to be a pretty much standard release time giving the last few releases...
that may be because google want their prime device to stand out among the rest for awhile - or because it takes people around 3 months to develop their sense/touchwiz/blur/whatever and test with multiple devices before roll out
I wouldn't by a flyer because it only has a single core cpu, and there's bound to be loads of heavier apps and widgets released that required a bit more steam when fitted to a tablet.
The Galaxy Tab 10 spec looks good. And the Galaxy Tab 7 is a bloody good tablet, so it has some pedigree.

I get what you're saying. There will, hopefully, be a lot of apps which will be optimised for a dual core processor. But a 1.5ghz single core is by no means a slouch. Imagine overclocking this to even 1.8ghz... nice!

I just like the way its setup, thats all. First Android I ever used was the HTC Hero running Eclair, I think. Does anyone know what kind of screen the XOOM has? I really liked the vibrant colors that HTCs seem to have. What are they? OMLEDs?
That's another reason I like Sense, everything looked so vibrant and colorful. When I look at pictures of the Xoom's homescreen, it looks dull and boring.
UPDATE: HTC made a clarification on their twitter acct. See this post for the txt, or go visit The Twitter Post -- thanks Bioxoxide for the heads up.
This shouldn't be shocking to anyone....... but:
From Engadget (link: http://engt.co/eX1niG )
"Unfortunate news for anyone who saw HTC's Sense 3.0 UI and started dreaming about seeing it on their Desire HD, Incredible S or any other handset that doesn't ship with it preloaded. HTC has said that because of the hardware requirements of the fancier new Android skin, only the dual-core Sensation 4G and EVO 3D smartphones and the 1.5GHz Flyer tablet will be benefiting from it for now."
Guess we will continue to have to rely on our Devs until they all jump ship like on the HeroC.

I can understand why they're doing this. Even though the Evo might be able to run it, if its laggy, casual users will be complaining like crazy. Then they'll run into a situation like Apple did when they stripped features for the iPhone 3g, but it was still almost unusable.

HTC
Clarification: aspects of the latest HTC Sense won’t work on some previous devices. We are working to incorporate other aspects that will.
This isn't a shocker for me...there will probably be some ported version of Sense 3.0 but I doubt it'll run well. I'm completely fine without it.
I see this as bad this just means that the new sense is probly big bulky and poorly coded or they are lying and its not hardwear and they just want sense 3.0 to be a feature of newer devices to make them more appealing... I saw nothing in any video preview that looked like it needed a dual core... and I see no reason why adreno 200 wouldn't handle the 3d carousel thing
