Facebook contact syncing permanently? - Epic 4G General

with HTC Facebook friends are permanently linked to your contacts unless you unlink them or delete the info that HTC leaves in the notes section. I am wondering if Samsung will leave my FB contacts linked if I decide to restore my phone to factory(or flash later one). It was a pita to go and link each one of my contacts. I don't simply want to add all my friends in the get friends section and have my phonebook filled up with a bunch of useless contacts that I don't want.

Problem with linked contacts

Hi.
I tried to link one of my contacts to his facebook account but instead it linked him to ALL my facebook friends so all their details showed up under his contact info dozens of emails, phones numbers etc. Going into his contact profile and "unlinking" these others had no effect, all I could do was delete my face book info from the Accounts and sync settings and this removed the extra contact info. However his contact is still linked to two other contacts (google contacts) on my phone and I cannot remove the links for these no matter what I try. Any suggestions.? I'm using Villain 5.2 ROM.
Edit:. Also contacts I create on the phone don't appear, but appear on Google contacts. Contacts I create on Google don't appear on the phone.
Thanks

Can't put contacts in groups

While cleaning up my contact list from transitioning from my old blackberry, I was trying to add contacts to specific groups (family, friends, work, etc). However, when in the contacts app, I click on groups at the top, click on a group, then tap Add Member, which takes me to a blank screen that says No contacts.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Going to gmail and editing my contacts' groups on my computer doesn't change it on my phone.
Yep. I have the same problem and so do a lot of other people from what I've heard. Haven't found a way to fix this yet. The only workaround I've found is add a new contact to your phone with the same name and link it with your existing contact.
There are two ways to fix this. One is to create at least 1 "dummy" contact for each category. THEN you can manually move contacts to categories correctly, though this is very tedious...
Or, you can use an app. Look for GROUPY in the market. This will allow you to reassign all contacts to the groups you desire.
I think found out the issue. You can't put the contacts that are from your google account into groups, they have to be contacts stored on the phone. This is just stupid, and I can't find a way to copy all of my contacts to the phone.
I tried out Groupy as you suggested, masterotaku, and it doesn't seem to do what I'm looking for.
I was able to move all my google (and facebook, and twitter, and phone stored) contacts to categories with Groupy, so I guess I don't understand what you mean...
What this app appears to be doing is creating phone stored contacts that link to the existing sync accounts (google, facebook, myspace, twitter in my case). I've been able to categorize all of these contacts seamlessly with Groupy. Took me a couple of minutes to un-mess the whole affair.

Groupy puts your contacts into a folder on your home screen. What I'm looking for is a way to get my contacts (all of which are either from my google account or facebook account) into groups inside the Contacts app on the Vibrant, which you can see on the pic I attached I took of the groups screen in the app itself. It appears you can only do that using contacts that are stored on the phone itself.

And I'm telling you that this app does precisely that.....All of my contacts are in the Contacts app's categories. I've since removed Twitter and Myspace contacts from the contact sync because it was entirely too many lol.
Groupy creates phone stored contacts and links them to their existing sync groups...notice the contact in the second snapshot..it's linked to the google and facebook sync's. Groupy does this....
I'm thinking you've downloaded some other app. search for "com.kigate.groupy" This app has NOTHING to do with putting contacts in a folder on the home screen.

I see why I didn't notice. I searched for Groupy, and downloaded Groupie. lol
Thanks a bunch, GROUPY is doing exactly what you said.

How to link contacts with FB contacts (for contact icons)?

I am having a hard time working this out. When I used my HD2 with Android and Sense, I had an option for linking FB contacts. I have researched this and done much of what has already been suggested. I even use Syncmypix to link contact photos to those of FB.
With my HTC and sense, I could choose to link an FB contact with any contact in my phone book. This makes sense as in some cases, people may not use their real names on FB... I would like a way to personally link them on my Galaxy tab but have NO idea how... On some contacts that are already linked, they have an FB tab when I click edit... but I have NO idea how to link those that are not already linked there is no option when I click on the menu button...
I have FB for Android installed. I do not have all my FB contacts on my phone. Instead, for sync, I chose sync only contacts which are already on my phone. Obviously, some did sync and others did not... I want to manually link them.
Can someone help?
I solved my own question... but with an error showing (but also with the result I needed).
Open contact, Go to the groups tab, look up the contact on the facebook group, click on the part that says joined contacts with the colored green icons... it will then open the phone book contacts for you to link them too.... it does not seem to work the other way round (click on phone contacts then link to FB or social network contacts)...
For me, once I did this, my phone screen went black and the phone vibrated a couple of times and then showed an error msg. Closing the error made the phone exit to the main screen... but the contacts were linked ofter that...weird! But hey, it works...
By installing the latest version of the Facebook by Facebook app and synchronize your phone contacts with your Facebook contacts.

Multiple Contact issue while sycing

Hello,
I'm having duplicate contacts on my phone. Can anyone help?
I'm getting 2 contacts for everything. Looks like the phone is creating multiple contacts, Is it possible to avoid this (rather than stop syncing with fb and gtalk)
thanks
Maybe it's showing your google contacts and your phone contacts, or your phone and sim contacts, have a look in your settings in the contacts screen, and make sure you only have one of the settings ticked.
Also if you are importing to gmail account, you can use gmail to remove duplicate contacts.
It all depends where the contacts come from.
If you go into the gmail web version on a computer and look up the contacts and there are duplicates - then delete the duplicates and sync.
If the duplicate contacts are stored on the SIM - then either delete them or choose the option not to view them.
If the duplicate contacts are stored on the phone (but do not sync with gmail) - I would just delete them (you could always back them up with KIES on the computer).
If the duplicate contacts come from different applications (gmail, facebook, etc) then you just 'link' them. This way gmail will sync only with the gamil contacts and Facebook will only sync with the facebook contacts but most importantly you only see a single contact with all the info from both souces in it.
Related question.
Is there any way to backup and restore linked contacts when you do a full wipe and restore? Titanium Backup doesn't seem to like doing this, and linking them again really annoys me.
Any ideas?

Contacts Confusion

Another newb question to the Samsung. My contacts are an absolute nightmare and I can't figure out how to get them under control. I went in and disabled (I think) sync on as many things as I could find (exchange, facebook, etc). I also went through and manually deleted a bunch of contacts I didn't want. Went in there today and BOOM. Contacts are a chaotic mess again. How do I fix this? How can I mass delete contacts and start over if it comes down to that?

Facebook always screws mine up, so I never sync it ever.
I'd just sync your google ones and then go fix them on contacts.google.com

You need to disable sync on all the apps. Contact can be sync from Gmail, Facebood, Google+ etc.. Make sure you go into each and stop all the sync, then delete all the existing contacts (most of them just have email address with no phone number associate), then restore your original contact list. If you don't have the original contact list then you need to modify your current one to your liking, then export it out to your sdcard. This will be your core original list. In the future if anything happened to your contact list, you can easily delete all then import your original list and you're back. The quickest way, is to select display only "phone" contact then other none phone number contacts will disappear when you open contact.
You can tell the phone which contacts to display by account. I have mine set to only display Google. This way I don't have to worry about what syncs and doesn't, and can link the contacts between accounts so it'll show their Facebook picture for them.
