Long, Long list of past phones used, but I just picked up the Incredible today. This is by far the BEST phone I have ever used as far as software goes. I never thought the Sense UI made a difference, but it is amazing. The email app is what I like the most. It allows you to put them in order by subject.
I looked at the Fascinate while at the store. Beautiful hardware, Beautiful screen, but the crappy Samsung OS over the Android sucked! Plus, the incredible has overall better specs as far as Ram/Rom, etc... But the Fascinate hardware was very nice. I would love to have it with the sense UI.
I traded in my Droid X because the exchange never would work, and I am not a fan of Roadsync or Touchdown. I think I finally found my phone!
History (from what I can remember, Present first)
Incredible, Palm Pre Plus, Droid X, >>AT&T<< Captivate, Torch, Xperia X10A, iPhone 4, iPhone 3gs >>Verizon<< Palm Pre Plus, Droid, BB Storm II >>TMO<<Cliq, MT3G, BB Curve 2, G1, and I can't remember past that.
good to kno as far as an X goes and that exchange issue ill have to look into that.
i actually received my shipping notification the other night for both my Dinc and X ( X being for my wife ).
My dinc will be here Monday. I didn't go with x for one big reason... exchange and calendar. I don't know a lot, but I do know that the cyanogenmod for the evo had the same calendar with the same pronlems.
I could edit calendar events that were created on the phone, but not event that were created on a computer and since to the phone over the exchange.
I think its the calendar app that cyanogen and MOTO use. I live by my calendar and stay with sence time for his reason alone. Would love to see someone fix this. Not to go to the x again, but o go with a cm Rom again maybe.

Does anyone have one or is it mainly the sprint hero being used here?
I have one and I love it so far.
It will probably mainly be Sprint for a bit since we've had the Hero a while longer but I'm sure more Eris folks will start showing up (Just as there are a few Cell South users around too).
They might all be hovering around their respective "root status" threads.
This one is yours:

Yeah I have one and i absolutely love it. I have had the following android phones and I think the Eris is the best... MyTouch 3G, Motorola Cliq, and now the Droid Eris.
love it
hey i got a Moto DROID on release day and ended up returning it a little over a week ago for the Eris.... I miss 2.0 and the the DROID had a little more speed, as well as the flash, and gps nav..... but i wouldnt trade my Eris for a thing....
I love my Eris, loved my G1, and was ehh with the MyTouch3G. The Eris has the best UI but the G1 was great for modding anything on the phone except the carrier (T-Mobile sucks).

I think once we get more familiar with the cdma bits you'll see the hero/eris reach a similar .level of customizability.
I totally agree. Once this phone is rooted it will beat all the other phones I have owned. I do miss Tue physical keyboard but not going to cry over it.
i got one and love it
Best new phone experience yet for a smartphone and just keeps getting better and better.
Jimbo
Currently have the droid and not overly impressed. To be hones, aside from Google Nav, I'm already pretty bored with it. Seems like most people that opted for the Eris love it, whereas most Droid owners are mostly complaining.
Still in my 30 days with Verizon and am considering swapping out for the Eris, but not sure if it would be a step backward from a hardware perspective. I love the fact that it is HTC based and therefore the options of custom ROM's, etc. when made available is great. However, I'm somewhat skeptical about the seemingly dated hardware it is running on.
Any Eris owners that have some experience using both that can post why they chose the Eris? Is Sense UI that big of a deal?
Thanks in advance...
In my opinion the eris is a great phone so far. My buddy who is a iPhone user played with it today and he was very impressed by it. I do think the sence UI makes a world of difference. I have not used the moto droid yet, but if you not happy than I would think about switching. Goodluck
I love my eris, I only have 1 complant about it. The damn preinstalled apps that htc puts on there. I really feel that the inability to uninstall those apps go against the spirit of android and its open source roots
I would say that sense and all the other HTC improvements such as multitouch web browser are what the eris have going for it. The droid's processor would really be the only thing that I would like in my hero or your eris. The keyboard on that phone was horrible. I tried it out for a day and couldn't get to liking that hardware keyboard at all and software is worse than HTC. So it's interface or processor.
why are so many of these threads poping up?
Do you want us to convince you into getting the Eris?
Try to do your own research, go to a Verizion store and mess with the Eris or check sites like droiddog.com where they go through every last detail about the damn thing.
remember google is your friend
I currently have the droid incredible, but have a lot of problems with it. Verizon said I'll be able to get my phone replaced with the droid x. What phone are you switching from?
The Motorola rival. ...Droid x was the only phone which made me go crazy about android LOL
A crappy Blackberry Curve 8520 (the Edge-only one) on AT&T with no data plan.
I saw this the x on a few different webpages and I sent my Incredible back next day. The only thing I will miss is that beautiful AMOLED screen.

What problems are you having with your Incredible? I had mine for 18 days and didn't seem to run into anything
I only had my EVO for two weeks. I had to return it due to this screen
It's still up in the air as to the Droid X or a Samsung Galaxy. I'll probably go with the Droid X as a vote of confidence to the devs.
I'm leaving my Samsung Omnia i910
It was my first smart phone and I'll be a little sorry to see it go
You never forget your first!

when I plug it into my car's aux line it starts voice dialing, or skips tracks in all my music players. And when it's in the car dock the screen doesn't respond.
This is a replacement incredible. It's a brand new phone, and I had the same problems with both phones, but this replacement's screen is worse in the car dock.
I listen to my music thru my phone in the car every day, so this is very frustrating.
You left BB and WinMo off as groups. Bet a lot of people coming from them as well. Specifically I am converting from WinMo that's not a TP.
I am leaving my Tp2 for the Droid X. I went from Motorola Q9c to Samsung Omnia to Tp2, so this will be my first android phone and i am super excited.
Forgot to mention that before the evo I had an iPhone 3G. I left it for android. More specificly for a huge screen.

I am dumping my 'wonderful' Samsung gleem. Thursday can't come soon enough!

Same here. My contract is up on the 27th so I'll have a couple weeks to hear people's reviews and hear for any announcements on something better (come on Scorpio!)
I'm dumping the Incredible. Nice phone, I love it to death, but I'm seeing the larger screen and longer battery life coming in handy. I was a WinMo convert.
Phones that I currently own and will be dumping
Nexus One
G1
Droid - Keeping
Evo - used for two weeks and then returned
Previously owned:
Mytouch 3G
HD2
GSM Hero
Sprint Hero
Cliq XT
Leavin behind the good old Omnia i910 lol.
nice! make that two tallys for the omnia i910!
btw.. pepperonikiller.. i am using your rom haha
I will be gladly ditching my Eris.

I've been visiting xda forums as a windows mobile user for years. I just ordered a Droid X last week but now I'm thinking about canceling it and ordering the Fascinate (which I didn't find out about until after ordering).
I think the Droid X fits my needs better at this time but I'm worried that Motorola's efforts against ROM developers will doom the phone. Looking at the visitor counts across xda forums did nothing to help my perception. I know that sounds crazy but ROM updates made my Windows Mobile phones much easier to use, more reliable and greatly extended my use of the phones. An example would be how internet connection sharing became effortless instead of almost impossible.
My roommate has one of the other flavors of the Galaxy S (which is what the Facinate is), and I honestly like the Droid X a bit better. You're basically worried about nothing at all, man. Motorola's efforts have basically proven to be fruitless. The Droid X got rooted like a week after it came out, and we're very close to having a "Vanilla" AOSP 2.2 ROM. At this point we have Recovery and root and Froyo. What more do you really need?
Xda isn't as popular when it comes to Android phones. I am a former Windows user myself. There are other forums that are more popular when it comes to Android, such as androidforums.com and droidxforums.com
Honestly I had the captivate (same thing but for att) but I wasnt a huge fan of the phone. It feels kind of cheap compared to the x. Also, it scratched easier. That, and it is noticeably slower (for me at least). The only thing I did like was the screen. The amoled is gorgeous.

Thanks for responses. I agree the Captivate seems less well built. The reason I went with the Droid X is my hope to avoid some of the problems I've had with HTC phones the last 6 years. I was fine until I broke something, after that I was in Assurion hell with refurbs that all had issues.
It's reassuring to know that there will be ROMs. As long as there is at least one it should future proof the phone.
The GPS issue with the Galaxy S phones does not seem to be resolved whereas the Droid X is apparently one of the best GPS phones ever.
The more colorful screen and faster 3D performance doesn't mean that much to me given the Droid X's performance out of the box.
I only burned ROMs on my HTC phones to solve major problems caused by carrier bloatware, pointless restrictions and failure to update. I guess the issue I'm worried about is Motorola/Verizon failing to update to a new version of Android sometime in the next 2 years.

Well that should be the least of your worries when discussing the X or any future Moto devices running Android. I also know for certain they are already working on Andorid 3.0 for certain devices already. Part of the problem the mfgs and carriers are having is that Google keeps pushing Android out so quickly they can't keep up with updating all current devices to the new OS's let alone work on and designing new devices with the most current OS. I mean think about Google has had 3 major updates (2.0,2.1, currently 2.2) to Android in less then a yrs time, and they are working on the 4th (3.0) already. It's no wonder the carriers and mfgs can't keep everything up to date for all devices.
Anywhoo as mentioned already with the X having Root access, and custom ROMS in the works personally I wouldn't be to concerned at all.
Thanks for the supportive posts, because the Android modification world is new to me it wasn't clear to me that ROM developers were working with the Droid X. I read all the posts in the developer section here and understand that people are already running alternative ROMs.
I went over to the GPS threads regarding the Samsung and that was enough to convince me to stay with the Droid X. I'm careful when picking out new phones as I try to stay with them for 2 years.
Anyway, my Droid X (ordered on the 22rd) is on its way.

Good to hear and welcome to the Android community, hopefully you will enjoy the fun moving forward. I'm running a fully modified ROM myself already also and it is much nicer then the ROM that was sent out on the device that is for sure.
I've gotta say give you credit tho. To keep a device for 2 yrs is a long time this day and age. I'm lucky to make is 6 months and I'm on to something new as I'm bored of the old device by then. I've enjoy the Droid long enough and currently using the X for now, just waiting for the D2 to show up so I have something else to mess with and swap back and forth between. Once it shows I guess it will be time to let the Droid go as it had a good run in my book. Peace
Making it 2 years on the same device takes discipline and with my latest phone it may have been counter productive. The Touch Pro's screen is 2.7 inch and the only browsing I did on it was Opera Mini with bookmarked sites that happen to display well on the tiny screen. If you go out 2 years they usually have stopped production so the refurbs are old themselves. The last few Assurion Touch Pro refurbs all developed an oily patch on the screen after a few months. Good riddance to the Touch Pro although it was a big improvement over the XV6700. Verizon has lowered the impetus for holding on for 2 years now that the every 2 is only $50. I think the TP was the last phone I'll keep that long.
i can tell you from experience, sometimes my vibrant's GPS doesn't work AT ALL and i really do miss the camera flash that i have on my droid x....not so much for the camera but i use it all the time as a flashlight, really handy feature. of course that will be a moot point with the fascinate as it will have the led flash.....it's a tough choice, i do like both phones though i rarely use my vibrant, mainly because i have NO tmobile 3g where i now live.
I've now had the DX for 4 days. Absolutely love it. I installed both Logmein Ignition and Xtralogic Remote Desktop. Today a customer needed help, no need to pull out my netbook and tether, just went right to her desktop and fixed the problem right on the DX. I rooted and renamed the crapware apps to .bak, installed what I think will be most of the apps I'll be using. This phone took me 1/10th the time it took to get a Windows Mobile phone to do what I needed. One thing I'm appreciating is the better build quality of the Motorola vs the HTC's I've been using the past 6 years. So far there really is nothing negative for me about the phone. That's a first after years of tussling with Windows Mobile and Treos.
Good to hear that you are enjoying your X with no issues.
I got a Fascinate on launch day last Thursday, but I am planning to return it tomorrow and order an X. I will reactivate my Droid 1 while I wait for the X. I will miss the 4" SAMOLED screen on the Fascinate for sure, but I'm sure I will like the X too.
I had similar thoughts when I ordered my X but all doubts were whipped away once it got here, Im not even rooted yet and I already love this phone my only complaints have been how short the freaking charging cable is. also I've been less than impressed with the camera but I think that can be tweaked.

What a joke Samsung and AT&T are so I walked over to VZW and snagged a Droid X. With the Captivate, I was on [ROM] Axura 2.1 (Froyo) with Setirons 1.4.3 Kernel and loved it, but what is the tits rom for the Droid X?
Everyone has their own opinion, but the popular ROMs seem to be: gummyJAR, ApeX, Tranquility, RubiX, and Fission. Check out the Development Forum to see what all is being worked on.
I personally like ApeX, but I am considering trying gummyJAR after hearing so many good things.

Battery = Better So Far
Screen = Larger, not AMOLED, but very nice w/ Gorilla Glass!
GPS = DEAD ON ACCURATE today on the way home!
Speed = Stock X is comparable to my Cappy on a FAST ROM.
Overall = I am MUCH happier with the Droid X...............MUCH!
I'm using DarkSlide personally, and I am quite happy with it. The latest versions are based on the new 340 OTA, so make sure you are on that before removing any bloat or installing a custom ROM, as VZW checks for certain bloat before offering the OTA.
Motorola has an encrypted bootloader on the DX, so there are no custom kernels available yet. But as you already noticed, the X is faster while stock than some phones tweaked to the max.

I love my droid x way more than any of the other 4 smart phones that I've owned. However, if I were you (or your dad), I would wait a minute because, as you may already know, some really sweet LTE phones are due to be released in the near future (perhaps february if the various tech blogs are accurate). For example, the htc thunderbolt looks sick. It looks like a couple are going to be officially announced at CES next week
to late lol we got the droid
I got my DX for $49 at wirefly.com ..best customer service too ..I had got the D2G originally but it got too hot at times..so I mention it on their facebook and was surprise to get a call from "corporate" the next day offering a exchange for the DX and credit for the difference.
Cons: well it's not really one. You have keep the phone for at 6 months without downgrading or lower the cost of the plan. Also you can't move to another device until after 6mths ..worth it IMO.
and if you use my link we both get credit for $25.
EDIT: looks like they have the DX for $19 with free activation...im jealous.
Did the same move (captivate to Droid X). My only and I mean only grip with the Droid X is the fact it can't play MKV. files. The Captivate played that with the stock player, no issues. I've bought just about every player on the market and it still doesnt' play those files.

I can play MKV files on the latest RockPlayer. But they get choppy if they are too large.
