This should make life a little easier for those who want to use an I9000 kernel.

This kernel was compiled from the I9000 source with the initramfs of the I9000XWJM7 kernel.

-HSUPA support
-MobileAP support (aka wireless tethering)
-Selecting with power button in recovery mode

So I can flash JM7 and then add this kernel?
Does BT voice work on this? How about HSUPA? I am assuming they do as you say voice and data, but looking for confirmation.
Great work anyway - it is nice to know we can without captivate kernel. Now if Froyo Kernel can be fixed we can really rock.
Thanks!

so in a nutshell,
HSUPA works with voice and data, Bluetooth with stereo audio, auto rotate.
What about volume control and the speaker and headphone jack logic?
P.S.
Does this also allow HSUPA with 850 MHZ band?

Edited, nevermind

This is not a froyo kernal

Oh thought it was

interesting work! I'll try it out later, perhaps you should talk to Unhelpful about incorporating his init.d startup scripts to get MobileAP functioning again
edit: can anyone confirm if GPS is working with this kernel? using other kernels with JG8 modem tends to kill GPS

Test platform:
CODE_I9000XWJM7
CSC_I9000OXAJM1
JG8 Modem
My Kernel
Screen auto rotates correctly
HSUPA works
Data and Voice work
Volume works
Headphone & Speaker work correctly
I don't have bluetooth to test with
Will edit the title to clear up any froyo confusion

WOW!!! I totally forgot about THAT! I was, literally about to run Rom Manager on it when I saw this question.... if yes, I'll be a guinea pig.....

Now we just have to get you and Supercurio together to incorporate the Voodoo fix

Our phones are getting better all the time. W00T!

Is the source available for the I9000 Froyo kernel? How difficult would it be to reorient / fix the speaker bug for a 2.2 captivate kernel? What can I do to help make this a reality?

hope you know how to use adb then else the backup to the computer would only be helpful when the phone boots into the homescreen. anything less and you would have to learn to use adb to push stuff to the root of your sdcard to be able to access it in recovery or clockwork recovery

I would simply Odin back to a working model and then copy/bluetooth back to my phone. Easier. Assuming that 1 clockwork backup image stays good =)
and besides, from reading the forums here alone i could have learned about the adb push or pull commands =)

I'm assuming that means there is no kernel flashing in the update.zip or anything required after running it?
How do you apply this? Odin or clockworkmod or how?

ClockworkMod.
Does this have the captivate camera or the vibrant camera? I've heard of vibrant users loading the captivate camera but never dug deeper to find out why.
Also, has anyone here flashed this yet? Eugene's roms are supposed to be pretty good. I'm debating on installing this or waiting for a froyo rom.

I really want to, but he hasn't answered my question about kernel flashing yet
edit: in the change log it says "includes stock kernel" which I assume is just a part of the direct copy/paste from the vibrant thread, so is therefore the stock vibrant kernel... meaning that there is a kernel flash to which we could theoretically follow up with an SRE flash
FYI It does have the autorotate but so you have to go into settings and uncheck orientation under sound and display
Edit: I am guessing I need to install vibrant drivers?

if you could, try following it up with an SRE flash (which I believe will change the notification bar) or flash the stock captivate kernel with odin (which won't have a working mobile AP or overclock)
You might want to try flashing a stock captivate kernel on top of it, or if he's got the lagfix baked in you might want to use unhelpful's kernel so that it maintains init.d support. I'm still working on flashing back to try this so I can't say for sure =P
Trying SRE right now, will report back momentarily
So don't think that worked, Linpack scores of 7.6 which is much lower than it should be, lag is unbelievable and I can't get adb to recognize my phone anymore, making it pretty close to unusable...going back to JH3 until smarter people than I can figure something out...
One more thing, this worked as advertised until I tried SRE, but just with the known issues of using a vibrant kernel in the captivate
I don't know if I've ever hit F5 this many times back to back, come on crop and Zilch!
Let me know how this works... I can change out what ever need edited, but I don't have an at&t phone to further fix things...

I believe the only thing that would really need to be fixed (according to crop) would be to use either the stock kernel (http://koush.tandtgaming.com//test/kernel-captivate-stock.tar.md5) or Unhelpful's kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=762171) instead of the vibrant kernel

okay.. Thanks...
but, my understanding is it works fine with the kernel that is pre-included.
just finished flashing and phone booted up will update soon.
initial reaction phone is quite slow , lots of lag
just performed a factory reset now and check it out.
also it takes more time than usual while booting at the Samsung logo.
I just flashed XWJM7, then Unhelpful's kernel (v1.1 via Odin), and then a repackaged version of Vibrant-Hybrid, removing the kernel specific stuff from the update-script.
All is working fine so far.
Great job Eugene!

he said there's a bug with auto-rotation (we get this bug using the i9000 kernels too because apparently we're all about using anything but the AT&T ROM) and I'm willing to bet he didn't test the bluetooth which is also another common problem area when not using the captivate kernels
It does work fine, the only thing you need to do is turn off auto rotate =P Haven't tried GPS though. Also I just flashed the JG8 modem file to this for HSUPA lovin'
GPS starts, but I'm indoors and it's midnight so I'm not going out for a stroll to test if it gets a lock =P

Just tested my BT headset and the Mic works. My wife says there is more background noise with the bt headset when I test called her but unsure it thats rom related. I don't really use it that much so don't know if thats normal or not for this BT headset. Test it out and let me know.
Very interesting, I will give it a shot.
Nice to see you here and cooking too
awesome job Shep! let me know what i can do to help. i am working on a few things right now, and i will try to fit anything in you need. even if its just testing
welcome aboard. Glad to see this.
cool
does it lock the phone like the ji6 leak
Thanks Shep. I'll try this tomorrow
is everything working properly in this rom? wireless? 3g? bluetooth? all the buttons? headset jack?

That's a positive result; the mic on the non cooked combo we tried under the other thread made it sound like you were far away, mumbled, and like you're in a tunnel.
Next question: In the JPK ROM the Bluetooth Voice Commands worked - do they on this one? You should be able to use the headset to tell the phone to, for instance, "call mom". If it works, this is my next flash.
I'm concerned about the exchange issues seen in other leaked froyo rom builds.

i personally have not had this issue, but i have seen it reported on cog and on the leaked build. i would assume it has something to do with the exchange server you connect to. mine is working great and i have tested it on 3 different 2.2 setups with zero issues.

This was not an issue on the JPK ROM. And, I did have the issue with all Cappy Froyo builds - from stock to Cog Beta 5.
---Edit---
See this post for information on issues we had in testing JI6/JPK (before this effort by Shep which put the JPK in the JI6 framework from Cog builds): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798164
---Edit---
Unless the issue is related to the JI6 framework and not the native email app, which I don't think is the case.
Just thought of something....dammit I wont be able to download the beta2 because of the download restrictions on the host >.<

I'm working on CyanogenMod6 for our phones and this happened to by on the way there because I was futzing in recovery so I put it out as ppl seemed to be asking for Voodoo support in Froyo. If it doesn't work for you, don't worry - the performance difference between stock RFS and Voodoo on Froyo isn't as significant as it was with Eclair (the 'Q' number is near 1400 rather than above 1700 - I guess still somewhat better than stock).

If it doesn't work for you, don't worry - the performance difference between stock RFS and Voodoo on Froyo isn't as significant as it was with Eclair (the 'Q' number is near 1400 rather than above 1700 - I guess still somewhat better than stock).

colorfix can't be done without sources and this kernel will have aosp bootanimation.zip support soon as well.
and speak of the devil, anyone wanting AOSP boot animation support, use this kernel here:
http://github.com/downloads/atinm/captivate_multistage_initramfs/cwm-ext4-v1.14.zip
same as above, flash in CWM, place any WVGA bootanimation.zip in either /system/media or /data/local

Is that a ext4/lagfix + bootanimation kernel only?
Is it 2.2, and does it have recovery 2e?

All of the above. But CWM recovery is default, you can boot into 2e if you want from that. I prefer CWM recovery as my default, so that's how it is.

these two things are unrelated, bootanimation.zip goes on your phone, unsigned zips are run from recovery. this kernel as clockwork as the default recovery.

works fine for me, but you can also try renaming it to update.zip and trying that way... the only way to tell if it's working is with a custom boot animation or verifying the output of build.txt in the root of the phone

no dice that way either.all the update-script text comes up, says it's done flashing the kernel, and then reboots, but the name of the kernel doesn't change. plus when i tried as update.zip it stuck at the boot screen and i had to flash an older kernel to get it to boot.

*** If you'd like a different type of Battery Mod, take the framework-res.apk from /system/framework and use this website: http://circle.glx.nl/
Instructions
Recommended:
1. Backup all of your apps, photos, etc. Use Titanium Backup (on the market) for your apps. Put the TitaniumBackup folder on your computer, along with your photos and such.
2. Using Odin, flash back to stock JF6. If your phone has 3-button problems use this Odin. This mostly effects 1008 phones (check under your battery).
3. Using Odin, Master Clear THIS DELETES EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE, INCLUDING THE INTERNAL SD CARD.
4. Root your phone. I use this one click.
5. Install Rom Manager from the market. Using this, install Clockwork Mod recovery.
1. Transfer Assonance_x.x.zip to your SD Card.
2. Reboot into Clockwork Mod recovery and flash Assonance_x.x.zip
3. Following installation, reboot the phone.
4. It will say "Config files differ". Choose "Yes, with backup and restore". Wait for it to complete.
5. Allow the phone to boot. This will take an abnormally long time. Somewhere between 2 and 4 minutes. The dots will not stop for any period longer than 10 seconds.
6. Allow the phone to establish a data connection. This will take longer than normal, and should be done within a minute or two.
7. Restore apps with Titanium Backup, add your photos, etc.
8. Enjoy for 15 minutes before caving to your insatiable ROM Flashing obsession.

Just flashed this, Working smooth!

[KERNEL][KK4][1/28/11] Corn Kernel v7.06 from Source (OC, BLN, Voodoo Sound, etc.)!

Update: New version 7.06 (UCKK4) from Samsung I897 source code.
UCKK4 kernel with Voodoo sound and color, BLN, 1200 mhz overclock, custom CwM 5, init.d, root, custom boot animation support, fully working nandroid, rfs/ext2/ext4 formatting, multiple tweak options and more!
No more Voodoo lagfix. Reformatting functions are contained in a new custom-modified CwM Recovery. Ext4, Ext2, and RFS formatting options are available for /system, /data, /dbdata, and /cache together and individually. Su / Superuser installation is available from within Recovery for un-rooted ROMs. Kernel tweaks are also available from within Recovery, as well as support for init.d scripts and sysctl.conf.
You can flash this over any supported partition scheme. Select OC, scaling governor, i/o scheduler, etc. in Recovery. Download BLN app from Market to control BLN, Voodoo Control app to adjust sound and color, and Voltage Control for under-volting (not recommended unless you know what you're doing). Please do not use Tegrak for this... the frequency table in this kernel is of a different design than that in Talon, Semaphore, etc.
--- IMPORTANT ---
Click to collapse
Please consider this somewhat experimental. It was a major pain to track down and piece together the missing parts of the source code, and should be considered a work in progress. Version 6.03 (repackaged stock kernel) is still available and reliable.
You might want to back-up and remove any shell scripts you have in your /system/etc/init.d folder until you have flashed this and can verify that they
are compatible and/or needed.
NEW - NEW - NEW: Version 7.0A is for those who have experienced reboots or want a basically stock kernel with BLN, Voodoo Sound, SIO and SmartassV2. No overclocking, Voodoo Color, TinyRCU, advanced ext4 driver, or other code modifications... just straight Samsung code. If you want overclocking, use Tegrak loadable module (paid version?) to provide that.
Please use this guide for reporting problems

I suppose I should also state that I'm trying to get ALL of Voodoo to work and not just the EXT4... Something I'm sure quite a few would like to see. Though I don't know much about Voodoo so we'll see how far I can get...
