With this samsung HD demo video, originally made and encoded to show off samsung TVs. I've re-encoded it with optimum settings for the vibrant taking into consideration its gpu and screen capabilities. This is considered the best Nature HD demo video among video enthusiast to show off detail, color and contrast (even higher quality than "Avatar" and "Planet Earth").
Get ready for your jaw to drop when you see this video and the amount of detail it shows. I've included a couple of screenshots for reference but they don't do this video justice. Plays fine with vibrants stock media player.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links yet. I haven't tested this in any other device (other than galaxy s series) so it'd be nice if you could try it on other devices and see if it plays. This is DRM free so you can stream or play it anywhere you want. It won't look as good as it does on the phone because its not optimized or encoded for bigger displays. Plays on all the galaxy s series including europe version
Here's the full info on the video and the link, I can't post links so remove spaces

Here's the link for everybody. www.megaupload.com/?d=IBGE7W0M
this is a different one, it includes: insects, ocean life and penguins and dolphins
WOW! This really is a great way to show off our phones. I just ran it on my Galaxy S and was amazed at the quality.
Thanks for uploading.

Very cool. Thanks!

Ha ha, that music - wtf...
Wow simply stunning, the ocean and the penguins are amazing. Though I will say the music is a tad lame.

Are there any good videos on the web that are 800x480 or 720x480 that play well on the N1 ?
Not on my home comp so cant convert something. My buddys coming over tommrw wants to see Vids on the N1. Looking for something good to download.
you have pm
wow thats a beautiful clip.
I was hoping for a 'fullscreen' but thats fantastic clip. Thnx.
Hello world!.
Try this. Visit this url: twit.tv/twit
and download either Low or High video resolution link.
BTW, TWIT is my favorite pod/videocast which I am enjoying every week.
I am also using ffmpeg (svn, GNU/Linux version) to convert any movie/video files into N1's playable MP4 format. Very nice quality.
TQ
//This is my first post, after a month lurking in this forum . Eventhough my N1 still locked/unrooted yet, but, I felt happy knowing the potential of N1 + Android.
Hi, Iam going through the motions of thinking about upgrading my Touch HD again, at present it is pretty much coming down to video playback.
I would be grateful if someone could download this and see how it runs on the HD2 using coreplayer, it currently pretty much wont run at all on my HD.
Thanks
http://download.bethsoft.com/trailers/fallout3/MothershipZeta-x264-6500-HD.mp4
i never was able to get coreplayer to work on my hd2, but i will say the built-in video player plays my ripped dvd mp4 files very well, with such fluidity that i dont need or want coreplayer. the only problem with the native player is the video & audio are often not perfectly synchronized, but its never bad, just barely noticeable.
i downloaded your test mp4 file, but the native player wont show the video, only the audio
all in all, the hd2 is lightyears ahead of the hd in performance. i use duttys latest 6.5.x rom, ver 23544, and with chainfires video driver, everything is perfectly fluid qnd quick. i tried a 23542 rom on my old hd and together with manila 2.5, its just too much, and brings the poor hd to its knees, and it crawls very slowly
hope this helps... if you live in the usa, get a telstra 3g model. you wont be disappointed!
It struggles a lot in TCPMP (shows possibly one frame a second) and doesn't play in Album at all.
hmm, this is not good at all, I expected no problems at all, it could be the codec though, i dont want to re-encode everthing like you have to do in the touch HD so its looks like the HD2 isnt such a good buy after all - for video anyway.
its proably the high bitrate causing the issue

Yeah, I'd like to see a mobile device properly decode 6.4mbp/s + audio!
video is as below, the res is pretty much perfect for the HD2, low bit rate as well, this should fly being an MP4? - it is x264 though...
input bit rate 704 kb/sec
codec AVc1
48000 stereo
res 864x460
frame rate 29.9700
Plays perfectly on my 3gs. Absolutely smooth with zero frame drop.
But then who wants a toy, right? ;-)
With all due respect, while I completely understand why you would want to play back high definition video clips on a phone, it's simply not going to happen; particularly not on a phone manufactured by HTC, who have a long history of shipping phones which lack adequate hardware-acceleration for video playback. It's possible you might get adequate performance from either an Acer NeoTouch or a Toshiba TG01 - the latter (and I think also the former, though I'm not certain) ships with a hardware-accelerated version of CorePlayer which is very good; but I wouldn't be at all sure even with them.
A sensible resolution and bit-rate would be 800x480 (i.e. the resolution of the screen) and a bit-rate of 2000kb/s variable, with CABAC enabled. (See, for example, the videos attached to this post, which look very good indeed on the HD2). You will not lose any playback quality re-encoding like this, though of course there is the inconvenience of transcoding.

Nope. Just have to click on the link. That brings up a screen that asked me if I want to play it direct or to download it first. In either way, it plays smoothly.
Of course it is impossible for a toy to be so good, right?
I've read articles in which the authors used an iPhone 3GS to play back 1080p video with a bit-rate of 30Mb/s - this isn't exactly stable, but it does play. 720p video would be very easy.

Why not just go to a Telco or apple store to try it out yourselves? There're just too much false information about what an iPhone can or cannot do around. Lots of it on this forum.
Don't know about what you have read, but mine plays THIS video smoothly. If you click on the link and let it stream, then you may need to wait for enough of the 80+ mb to be downloaded before the player starts. If your phone is JB you have the additional option of downloading it first before playing. Video picture is sharp, completely free if pauses, jitter, or frame drops, and sound completely in sync.
Cheers.
Edit: Thought I might as well video record how well it plays for your guys.

Sorry about the quality of the recording as I was using an old camera to do the recording rather than a proper video recorder, but still you will be able to see how smoothly it plays. Please blame my camera, not my iPhone for the poor video resolution. ;-)

Hi, that doesnt really prove anything, you could have converted it to a lower bit to play though itunes, plus the iphone screen res is half that of he HD2.
However, who would actually bother going to those lengths to fake this?
hmmm....
Honestly, even if the Iphone could play it smoothly, does it matter here? This IS the HD2 forums, isn't it? Nothing against it, but it is getting a bit tiresome to hear about it everywhere.
I haven't seen anything one way or another but does anyone know if the Evo will support divx I know HTC has it planned for the desire and Samsung already had it on the galaxy s n the moment. It just makes sense with the hdmi out
It would definitely make sense considering everything. We'll have to wait and see.
The H.264 video codec and mp4 format provides superior video quality, especially on the screen that the Evo uses.
Apple has done 1 thing in their existence that is actually useful.

sure it does better quality, but I really don't want to have to encode all my files from mkv to mp4 just to put them on my phone, i'd rather just play em straight
I don't know about you, but I don't want to copy 15GB movies to my phone. Conversion is really the only way to go.
or just stream them to the device. I'm just not up to date with HD streaming, but normal video streams well.
you'd need nearly a 20mbit connection for that. 15GB/120min/60sec*8
divx plays okay on evo using xyzflash player but looks better and played smoother when I converted to h.264

Hi Devs and my friends...just thoughth of what would be the best HD video setting for galaxy S...is it,
1200X800 at mp4 format or what else.
Inviting your discussions on the same. Could you please come on guys and discuss on this and also the best video converter for Galaxy S

There wouldn't seem to be much point in making it larger than 854*480p, given the screen size....

Use AVS Video Converter (latest release)...
1. Select "To MP4"
2. make profile with 800*480...1500 bit [email protected] or 29.7 fps
Check...I am going to upload the entire ripped "Avatar Movie" @600mb piece for your ready ref...its HD while viewing with default video player of Galaxy S!
any question...please ask
I just set up handbrake with some iPad presets, and i think they would be perfect for the galaxy s as well. The iframe option is less than full 720p, but it should be mpre than good enough for displaying on the galaxy screen.
Unless encoding 1080p content, i don't see any point in encoding stuff for the galaxy s.

I've been using the same settings in Handbrake. Even with bit rates around 1800-2000bps it plays really well (colour me impressed). Have set audio to 128kbps AAC, as there isn't much point going above that with just headphones on.
I have to say having come across from the Milestone the screen on this thing is sumptuous. I'll never be able to go back to LCD.

Nah. I meant anything above 128kbps, sorry. On my Milestone I used to use 96kbps but since the SGS is such a beast I figured 'what the hell?'
I have spent time on this, trying many ways as I want a great picture, so on any 1080p and 720p films I go for XMedia Recode/custom/mp4 h264/high/4.1/2 pass at 2000 bit/deblocking low/1280 by 720/mp3 192...I need this as I use sure headphones and they need good input/it works out at around 1gig or just under per hour you do, yes its lots of space but again there is new memory cards on the way (talk of tosh having made a 120gig nand chip) picture is great and its future proof for other mobiles in future as I dont want to have to do them again anytime soon, also on this setting it removes all black bars when the phone plays it (they remain if you watch on tv) but I also guess there is better ways but I just want good picture, and I did read there is problem with how our phone reads blacks, it uses the graphic chip which at the moment has problems understanding shades of black in lower than hd movies, this in turn leads to blocking but only in dark films, one guy found a way to pass this and says picture is great and blocking is almost gone in good rips but he did not state how to do this, so guess rest of us need someone or samsung to fix this, maybe on their first firmware download?
I don't see a point to re-encode movies if SGS reads every single one...

Because there are optimal settings for best quality/clarity.
we suffer from a cap of 4gb, no files bigger than that because of fat32 not letting us move bigger movie files, 720p movies sit around 6 7 8 gigs and 1080p around 10 12 13...some even more.
I just download 720p rips of tv episodes, anime and sports and drop the mkv directly into there.
If it is a movie and its below 4gb 720p i drop the mkv directly in there
If its a movie bigger i just use the hd encoder found here on xda and just do standard 800*480 with hd input.
Of if the movie has a 480 version ... ill grab that instead.
But most of the times i just drop the mkv into there ... mainly movies with subtitles i use the hd encoder.
Is it possible to put ext2 on the microsd card to get around the 4GB limit?
It is a Linux phone, after all. It should be able to handle it.
Has any body tried to load a movie on there's yet?
I tried last night and because the file was like 5 gig it wouldn't let me copy to either the phone or the sd card.
Any body else got any input?
The filesystem is limited to 4gb files. I did try two videos, both 720p mkvs, worked flawlessly, if a little fuzzy. I am guessing its the rescaling effect.
Haven't tried 1080p as I don't see the point, but that's just me (1024x600 screen).
Gonna convert some vids to the native res and see how they look.
Yeah - Thats pretty much what I thought just wanted to double check. All my 720 films are over 4 gig
What about yours?
Have you converted and compressed them to make them smaller? If so which programme did you use?
Thanks in advance
720p TV programs are about 1.4GB. Samsung isn't limiting you, the FAT filesystem is limiting you.

Oh yeah - silly me,
Still though its not ideal
I put a couple of tv shows on there (South Park, Walking Dead, Ugly Americans). Max size was like 2.2GB.
I am converting them now to 1024x600 (should be 1024x576, but I figured the ever so slight difference should be ok)
However, I am at work now so I'll have to wait for a bit before I can check.
What programme do you use?
Try MKV2VOB. IT will change the files to AVI if you wish and maintain quality (or compress) as you wish. It also has within settings the ability to break up the files so that they don't exceed 4gbs for FAT32 formatted drives.... (Like what the PS3 needs )

Excellent. gonna give this a try when I get home.
I use mediacoder, works rather well for me, probably also has some setting to break the files up.
I got impatient, so I converted one file, South Park, from 720p mkv to 600p mp4, variable bitrate quality 50, came in at 61mb (lol) and yeah, sftp'd that sucker down, stuck it on and I have to say, looks good.
I am now gonna try something less easy (Walking Dead). It comes in to almost 600mb (from 2.2gb) so lets see how that looks. Will take a bit to d/l though.
Or I could just wait to get home.....but it's not like I have to watch the download take place.

Yeah, the original was ac3. It always is a bit soft to allow for dynamic range. I will make a note to bump up the gain for my future encodes.
Come on kids. The tab has a screen suited for 480p. Anything higher than 600 pixels will simply be bigger than the screen.
When you use the HDMI dock, however, it should play xvid @1080p on your tv.

480 <- 600 -> 720
Either will get scaled (up or down). Also cool how they are both the same distance from each other (120 lines).
Personally, I'd rather have MORE info and scale it down than less and scale it up.
Plus I also said that 1080p is massive overkill. 720p works nicely, though reformatted for 600p is smoother (less ghosting of movement to my eyes).
YMMV
so is AC3 working fine, I dont want to recode all the TV programmes. If it can play mkv 720p AC3 then Im happy. I know up until recently it couldnt do mult-channel audio, wether it be 720p or 1080p
yes, ac3 works fine for me.
there should be an easier solution to watch 720p movies. Is it not possible to simply split the movie in 2 parts? There should be some mkv-split program out there, that does not need to recode, just create new headers...
(so far I am watching tv shows, and those files are 1gb)
Mkvtoolnix will do it in seconds on windows.
I downloaded a 7120p and 1080p trailer and tested and it workd awesome, except for the aspect ration wasent the best. I run tvshows and it works like a charm
