Best HQ N1 compatible video on web ? - Nexus One General

As subject says.
Im trying YouTube but getting mixed results as many of the HQ videos are also super letter boxed((large black stripe top and bottom..ex linkin park new divide video)).
Are there any good videos on the web that are 800x480 or 720x480 that play well on the N1 ?
Not on my home comp so cant convert something. My buddys coming over tommrw wants to see Vids on the N1. Looking for something good to download.

you have pm

wow thats a beautiful clip.
I was hoping for a 'fullscreen' but thats fantastic clip. Thnx.

Hello world!.
Try this. Visit this url: twit.tv/twit
and download either Low or High video resolution link.
BTW, TWIT is my favorite pod/videocast which I am enjoying every week.
I am also using ffmpeg (svn, GNU/Linux version) to convert any movie/video files into N1's playable MP4 format. Very nice quality.
TQ
//This is my first post, after a month lurking in this forum . Eventhough my N1 still locked/unrooted yet, but, I felt happy knowing the potential of N1 + Android.

Multimedia - am I missing something?

Hi all,
All of this talk about the video performance etc has me wondering.
I've tried encoding videos in the past to play on other devices, but I never have an appropriate time to watch them.
When do people watch these videos?
I guess whilst commuting?
I just never have the time for this, and when I do I'm at home so can watch on the laptop/telly.
Would appreciate some enlightenment !
multimedia
I think most people are looking for an all-in-one phone. I dont think one exists. Im like you and dont watch enough multimedia to matter, but some people do use that a lot. I dont feel like the HD is the one for all phone pda, but for me it does everything just well enough. I do agree if someone wants perfect playback or perfect screen or whatever, then they may not find it on the HD. I too would suggest a laptop to go along with the HD. To me, the HD does, (so far) a good job of everything, maybe not excellent in all areas, but it is approaching that. It all depends on what people want in a pdaphone. Im very happy with it, coming from a Touch Diamond.
I wouldl watch the videos whilst commuting yes.
I happen to travel through my city on average of 2.5 hours a day, sometimes even 3, and it just so happens that it's very boring on the bus and lately i find that with all the shows i'm watching, i just don't have the time to watch them at home, so an HD with smooth video playback would've been perfect for me, but HTC and Qualcomm had to ruin my dreams
Watched "Sunshine" on the train home today, was 98% perfect, avi was higher rez than the HD display and didnt drop a beat even in the mild fight seen...all good

Was it DivX and MP3 audio encoded do you know?
This is encouraging. I have also seen many clips on youtube, of what looked like great quality video playing fine on the HD. I'm hoping that the debates over awful video playback are concerning those who wish for higher quality content than I use on my phone. I ordered mine this evening hope to have it saturday !!
....IB a n e
Yer...twas a divx and i think mp3, played around with coreplayer a bit and now working smooth, will try an action movie and post my settings, tiz good though, really notice the higher rez next to a iphone...can barely see the pixels on the HD gui
Whilst commuting, on lunch/breaks at work/school... I hate the fact I drive now instead of commute to work - but at least I still have my lunch half-hour and two 15 minute breaks!
I don't see what everyone's problem with the HD video playback is though! I watched Wolverine And The X-Men fine!

Everone's Gone to the Movies

I get inspired every once in a while to convert some full length movies, and put them on whatever phone I have at the time. I have had mixed success (mixed failures?) and would like to see what people are doing that actually works!
I grabbed a couple of Blockbuster on Demand Movies (The two free ones that are offerred to HD2 Owners, plus a couple I paid for. They were formatted horribly, sounds was just acceptable, and like others, I was hoping for the kind of product that the Transformer conversions were. No such luck. Blockbuster, being A MOVIE RETAILER, does not deem information such as "Screen Format" or "Sound Encoding" to be important enough to share with us. The 4 films I have viewed were "Widescreen Format" but, since 800x640 is not 16:9, you end up with two very noticable black bands top & bottom of the screen. Try showing off your HD2, only to have some wiseass 8 year old comment "How come it doesn't fill the screen?" t seems like the wiseass 8 year old has a better sense of what's right than the wizards at Blockbuster (Using "Roxio Cinema Now" technology)
Okay, so much for delivering content to the "Hardest working Screen in the Business" Who then has a tried and true method for converting Ripped DVDs into our beautiful media device? I don't have the patience to try this and that ripper, this and that converter, get the demos, look at 5 minutes of video, or have a huge watermark all while NOT getting a nice conversion to begin with. What I dream of is a 2-3 step process, not a 8-10 step process, that I have to lord over the whole time. I would GLADLY pay for a properly done ripper/converter so I could simply watch a movie on this device that was made to do just that.
I also would like to know.
Have you thought of using TCPMP? (project is somewhere in this site) I just copy over movies (Xvid AVIs) and they play just fine.
1clickDVDConverter
1ClickMovie
AnyDVD + Handbrake (Handbrake is free and excellent, but you need a proggy like Anydvd for...backing up your movies).

DVD Fab platinum
this is the program that i use to put movies in my gadgets... I've put 10s movies in my htc hd2. try it, it has a very simple GUI, and the results is very nice too..
and just a little more detail, you can set up the resolutions output too so it will match the HD2 screen.
for the hd2, i converted my dvd to generic mp4.

Same here, using DVD Fab... It is FABulous to use.
i just use handbreak. it works really well. im currently using a profile i made that is bassicaly the iphone/ipodtouch preset with the resolution set to 800x48 for hi def and whatever the size is on lower def videos. i also have custom anamorphic which is set at
xxx = width if source file or 800 whichever is greater
800
800
i also have keep aspect ratio off.
on a test of the start trek blu ray i was able to full my screen with the people looking normal and not cutting anything off anything.
i have it on average bit rate of 640 with 2 pas and turbo 1st pass. with audio at 128. the movies look really good to me. Just for comparison the transformers movies weren't all that great looking on my pc at all. they look grainy and for that they are not really utilizing all the bandwidth they are consuming.
with these setting i am very happy of the video quality on my HD2 and the audio is also very good. I also didnt like the blockbuster offering. at these settings it is about 350mb per hour and thats including audio.
To make it with my same exact setting all you need to do is select the iPhone/iPod touch presert, make the resolution say 800x480 or whatever the max is allowed, just dont pass 800 x 480. the anamorphic is set to custom with
800
800
800.
look at the screen shot.
Good luck
Well as noted above, I had been using Handbrake, but my ripping mates have come up with a program that already had the HTC HD2 in mind.
A freeware coverter with an actual preset specific for the HTC HD2 and it works just fine my friends.
The proggy is called: Xmedia Recode 2.2.3.2
http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloads_counter.php?programid=47942
Choose HTC model.
Choose the HD2
Choose your video prefs.
Much love.

Show off your vibrant's screen...

With this samsung HD demo video, originally made and encoded to show off samsung TVs. I've re-encoded it with optimum settings for the vibrant taking into consideration its gpu and screen capabilities. This is considered the best Nature HD demo video among video enthusiast to show off detail, color and contrast (even higher quality than "Avatar" and "Planet Earth").
Get ready for your jaw to drop when you see this video and the amount of detail it shows. I've included a couple of screenshots for reference but they don't do this video justice. Plays fine with vibrants stock media player.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links yet. I haven't tested this in any other device (other than galaxy s series) so it'd be nice if you could try it on other devices and see if it plays. This is DRM free so you can stream or play it anywhere you want. It won't look as good as it does on the phone because its not optimized or encoded for bigger displays. Plays on all the galaxy s series including europe version
Here's the full info on the video and the link, I can't post links so remove spaces
Samsung- The Beauty of Nature: Length: 6min 54sec, resolution: 800x432, size: 102mb, bitrate: 2000kbps, video format: avc h.264, audio format: aac-lc, container: MP4

Does this have the misty river scene? That used to look amazing on DLPs.
Here's the link for everybody. www.megaupload.com/?d=IBGE7W0M
this is a different one, it includes: insects, ocean life and penguins and dolphins
WOW! This really is a great way to show off our phones. I just ran it on my Galaxy S and was amazed at the quality.
Thanks for uploading.
very nice thanks
Very cool. Thanks!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Nice! Thanks...
Ha ha, that music - wtf...
Wow simply stunning, the ocean and the penguins are amazing. Though I will say the music is a tad lame.

Link works fine here. If you don't have Megaupload premium, you have a download limit so you might of downloaded a file from Megaupload previously and have to wait.
Looks like a timing issue. They must have been doing maint. It's downloading now

LMAO, I think you need to read what this thread is about.
Personally, I prefer this one...

looks great, thanks

Let's talk about encoding methods

When I got my Evo I converted most of my DVD and Blu-Rays with this method
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_4g.html
Except I either left the source aspect ratio as is, or scaled it down from 1080 to 720. I have tried the xoom handbrake preset that has been posted a few times, and I'm convinced that the guide above produces better quality videos. I dont believe it's an ultra crisp perfect HD image, but I do think it looks at least DVD quality, and I know that it plays smooth as butter. Post your presets and I will convert and compare various blu-rays I own and post feedback.
EDIT - K, so, apparently animated movies have laggy playback and distorted colors. Audio is fine. What the hell. These same files play flawlessly on my Evo running CM7 in the Gallery app.

Do we really need another thread on that?? Why not reanimate one of these instead?
i was looking for a thread with just handbreak presets and not 14 pages of complaining about .avi files
Good luck with that! I have been waiting for such details for a while . Didn't mean to offend. I can give you details from my AVS settings if that helps.
[sent with Xooming Android technology]
Also, just for the record...The rockplayer apk from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009228
Appears to play the videos I converted for my Evo better, and they loot a lot sharper, when played in Software Encoding mode. The animated files I was having trouble with no longer have issues, and my blu-ray rips look quite a bit crisper.

Best Videos to show off your N6 Screen

What videos do you guys/gals keep on your Nexus 6 to help show off how pretty the screen is?
Not necessarily movies or anything like that... Just high quality videos or clips to take advantage of the Quad HD screen...
Share them here!
THIS!! I've been wondering the same thing since I got mine yesterday! I downloaded a 1080p version of Guardians of the Galaxy and it looks good, not great. I've seen a couple YouTube videos in 2K but not enough to really show the screen off.
Used this one last night
This one has great visuals as well as sound. Great for testing the stereo speakers!
Here is a classic screen sample video
Optionally you can download a full quality video.
Is it true that YouTube only plays at 1080p on mobile?
YouTube 5.18.5 supports 2k, but only direct download yet:
