[THEME] Elegant Steel - Motorola Droid and Milestone Themes and Apps

Elegant Steel for Milestone 2.36
After launching (too) many Themes on android-hilfe.de I decided to launch my latest Elegant Steel theme 4 weeks after the initial Launch in Germany. This theme was the first hdpi version based on Jedispotty`s fantastic concept and developed from scratch based on his PSD file.
You find my original Thread from Aug 13th here:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/themes-fuer-motorola-milestone/39826-theme-elegant-steel.html
Funny enough I helped my friend Thyrus porting it from the Milestone to Nexus CM6, before deciding also to launch my MS version at XDA (I spend a lot of time in AH Forum...). Good news - after already more then 1000 downloads in my home forum it is field tested, so there are no serious bugs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759990
The Theme is pretty complete with the battery hack (coop with mattmaso), transparency hack in the dialer to change background (modified it, but original idea came from Xeudoxus Dark Edge).
Theme contains:
• Launcher Pro
• Transparent Widgets
• Fancy Widget
• Beautiful Widget Skin
• NEW - messaging unreadcount widget
• DroidX IME
• Token Icon Pack
• New Comfortaa Fonts (and alternative Zegoe)
• Battery Hack for 10% Steps incl. NEW Digi Batt Icons
• Modified and themed framework, browser, market, youtube, calendar, gallery, gmail, contacts, phone, MMS, alarmclock, facebook, genie
Credits: Jedispotty for the fantastic concept - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699497
brsev for the token icons - http://brsev.deviantart.com/art/Token-128429570
Install:
Theme comes with a script for OpenRecovery (install, framework-only and restore). In any case do a Nandroid before you install, I`m in no way responsible for possible issues and damages
IMPORTANT: This theme is only for firmware version 2.36
1. Copy the folder Elegant Steel 2.36 to the root of your SD
2. Copy the scripts in the scripts folder of your openrecovery
3. Boot into recovery and install with the script
Known issues
The Comfortaa font does not support all special signs or languages (like Thai, Hebrew), so if this is an issue for you, just do not copy the font folder on your SD, it will install also without these fonts. You are free to use your own fonts, as long as you rename them accordingly

Very nice theme, loving the opaque notifications drawer!

This is quite possibly the best theme i've seen... Thank you soo much

One request. The data connection icons on the notification bar display an "H" with static two arrows. In the normal theme these icons are animated. When there is data uploaded the up arrow is highlighted and when there is data downloaded the down arrow is highlighted.
This is very helpfull at times and i was wondering if it easy for you to implement it in your theme.

That was a mistake in my last update, I just released an update with the dynamic icons
Here you can also find my latest THEME for Milestone - Summer Blues - inspired by jabbawalkees very nice matted blues
http://www.android-hilfe.de/themes-fuer-motorola-milestone/44777-theme-summer-blues.html#post563540

So is there a way to easily upgrade the theme? or do i need to remove and then reinstall?
By the way i noticed that you replace the media gallery with the N1 in your theme. There is a known bug in that apk with milestone. If you tap on the camera icon on the top right, the app crashes. In these forums (sorry but i can't remember where exactly) i found a version of it that works flawlessly on the milestone. I replaced yours with this version and it works.
I am attaching it here so that you can use this version if you want in your theme. (remember to change the file permissions cause otherwise it won;t work, at least that's what happened on my machine)
Also, will you keep this thread active with potential updates? Can i rely on watching it to always be up to date? (i love your theme)

Thx - don`t worry, if you follow my original threads in android-hilfe.de you will recognize, that all my themes receive regular updates. This theme here was already launched 5 weeks ago in my "home forum", so it is already very mature, but all my babies (now counting 13...) will be updated, when needed.

Thanks for your quick reply but you forgot to answer my question
To install do i need to remove and reinstall or is there a way to "upgrade"?
Oh and also your response means that this theme will be updated in this thread or in the original thread about the N1?

The MS version will be updated here and in the original Thread on Android-Hilfe.de (which was the original, N1 was a port, I`ve done for a friend).
If the changes are only framework related, you can use the framework-only script to update, if there are app updates, you need a complete install (or install the app by "hand" with adb or Root Explorer).

Quick question: did you create animated icons only for the data connection? cause i see a static one for when i am downloading an app of something from Dolphin whereas in the stock theme i get an animated icon.
Also can we get a version with the battery percentage instead of these weird looking blocks on the battery?

Here you find all sorts of battery icons, that are designed for the 10% step battery hack and already have the correct names. Just open the framework-res with winrar, drag the desired icons in res-drawable-hdpi folder and close the apk.
Then reinstall the theme with the framework-only Script. In any case as always a nandroid is recommended before.
http://www.zumodrive.com/share/6yNfM2ZjYj

You are the coolest kid on the block

I think that some of your icons are misplaced.
Specifically the Language and keyboard and text to speech seem that should be replaced by something else.
Was that a mistake or where you missing appropriate icons?

[UTIL] NEW Replacement pRSSreader Icons! [32 Varieties] -- [Updated: 27-06-09]

[Updated 27th June 2009] - Look below for list of updates/changes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After Posting here a few days ago about wanting to change the default (and rather ugly) pRSSreader program and notification icon, I took it upon myself to look into the issue rather than sit around waiting for replies.
Suffice it to say that, after a quite bumpy learning curve, I produced my own set of icons for the main program shortcut and taskbar notification from any good-looking RSS icons I found on the internet that were available.
I wasn't happy with just one icon and one new notification, so since I had amassed quite a few RSS icons during my searching, I decided to utilise the best of those I found and created a varying set of icons for all of you to enjoy!
Due to the varying nature of some of the icons I found, I turned my little quest for a new icon into a full-blown modification of the icons within the application as well.
...So, I present to you below, the (I guess version 1.0) of my modification icon set for pRSSreader. The icons were tested and created for version 1.4.4 of pRSSreader, so compatability cannot be guaranteed with earlier versions.
A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE DOWNLOADING & INSTALLING:
> In an effort (and my own personal desires) to have smoother curves and 'glossier' icons, the 'pink' used for global transparancy has been removed in favour of using the standard white/grey background with a default install of pRSSreader - otherwise pink boarders are visible around the edges of the new icons. Providing you have the default colours, everything should blend seemlessly. Not really an issue, but worth noting!
> This is the first time I have ever created ANYTHING for windows mobile, so it'll be difficult for me to solve any problems any of you may have. That said, most of the CAB's were tested on my own Diamond repeatdly, and providing the instructions below are followed, everything should be fine.
> When you choose your desired icon MOD set, please choose the location to be the INSTALL LOCATION WHERE YOU INSTALLED 'pRSSreader'. So if you installled to 'Phone Storage' then choose that, otherwise choose 'Internal Storage' if that is where pRSSreader was installed.
> Once installed, PLEASE SOFT RESET in order to affect the changes inside of TF3D & the shortcut links. I would recommend a SOFT RESET over disabling TF3D temporarily. A soft-reset can't hurt can it !
WARNING:
The MOD files will OVERWRITE you existing pRSSreader files. You wont loose your feed data or podcasts, but, should you so desire to have the original program icons back, you will need to use the supplied 'RESTORE ORIGINAL FILES'. Please Ensure you UNINSTALL THE MOD FIRST, if you decide to do this.
Again: The 'original file restore' CAB, is for version 1.4.4 of pRSSreader. If you do not want to use this CAB or have a different version, you could overwrite your installation by using the original creators installer CAB.
And now the fun bit...
Look at the table that I have designed below and choose your desired icon set. Pick your desired program icon first then the notification icon.
Find the CAB NUMBER/NAME by cross-referncing where they join together and download the necessary CAB below.

------ UPDATES: ---------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
[25-06-09]
> Added TWO new program icons. Those being:
> Added a 'Today Screen' plugin patch to replace the original purple [R] icon, with the new default RSS feed icon. This patch can be found in a later post (look below) - entitled 'Today Screen Icon Patch'.
NOTE:This patch is NOT NECESSARY if you have chosen to use program icons 7 & 8 - The patch is already pre-applied in the setup!
It is also not necessary if you don't use the Windows Mobile standard Today Screen. Only use it if you don't have Titanium or Manila TF3D or similar (SPB Shell for example) enabled.

> Uploaded new feed & enclosure MOD icons. Check the latest post for details and download CAB files. Enjoy!

Even more MOD files...
(Please take note of the CAB numbers - Due to updates, they are now out of sequence)
The new feed icons for news & podcasts/enclosures. Just download this update CAB and enjoy! You can use the 'RESTORE FIRST MOD FEED ICONS' CAB to revert back to the other ones if you don't like these.
Remember to choose the same install location as to where you installed the pRSSreader application.

[LAYOUT + ICONS] CommonSense v1.3 (new icons)

Hey all! This is a theme I made to make my device both practical and stylish. I got tired of all of the minimalistic themes out there because they were so unpractical. So many people requested this that I decided to make entire thread for it
I was inspired by a screenshot I saw in the General Android Themes thread but I can't find the post anymore. I haven't made any of the icons myself so all credit goes to the artists at DeviantART The small icons I combined from icons made by chrfb and borncold. There's an about.txt inside the zip file containing all the information about the origins of the icons. The lockscreen is a combination of modified programs by Andrewtst
Feel free to share and modify! I hope you share your own modifications and icons in this thread so that we can develop this theme even further
All the required files and information can be found right here:

The round icons are included in the modded widget, but you can download them here. I can't recall who's made them but I just happened to have them on my computer. I think they're from Win7 phones.

They are from deviantart:

Thanks Jiia, much appreciated.
Really cool, I had similar layout. I edited the "big" icons and removed the shadow under them so it looked cleaner.
My old layout looked like this:
Ah, that's quite similar to the one I saw I liked it but thought it had too few icons and didn't make use of the dock bar. Anyways I like that style a lot. Maybe you could share your icons and wp too so people can use them?
Thanks Jiia
I have a question about the large icon that is to be placed in the center of the screen. How can I make this big, when I add it the icon appears tiny and I cant seem to find an option to make it bigger?
Edit: I am so silly!!! I realised I needed to add this as a widget
these all are made of widgets.what if we wipe our phone before installing a custom rom? do we have make all icons etc again? i mean is there any way of backing up these?

Not that I know of. LauncherPro can't backup widget settings so I don't think there's a way.
Added 25 new icons 5 new colour options
no zip files there when I try to download?

WP7 (Windows Phone 7)-esque layout on Milestone

Hi all,
I posted this screenshot on Twitter last night and had some interest:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So thought I'd show how I did it.
Yes, and before you say anything - I know the icons aren't quite lined up, but on screen you don't really notice (and it was late, I was tired, and I didn't want to start messing with images! Well, I know 8.25pm isn't late, but I had a busy day, ok? lol)
In the flesh:
So, I'm running MIUI 12.3 on my Milestone (great ROM!), but I doubt that matters - you just need LauncherPro as your Launcher and you should be good to go. It doesn't have to be registered to Plus, but if it is, you'll be able to fit in the battery as well as the clock (by resizing the 4x1 widget to 3x1)...
1) Install LauncherPro and Desktop Visualizer from the Android Market.
2) In LauncherPro settings, set Appearance of the Dock to Custom, and use this image: http://imgur.com/download/N4HuX
3) Under Advanced, set rows to 7 (yes!) and leave columns on 4. This is at the moment the best way I've found the icons line up. It seems the Milestone screen doesn't seem to match other Layout configurations I've seen!
4) You'll also want to Hide the Status Bar.
5) Get the icons from here and download to your SD card: http://cl.ly/587f170f67f0e691eec9
6) Using Desktop Visualizer, layout the icons in 3x1 or 1x2 widgets as above, making sure you Clear the icon text after you select the program to link the image to.
7) Delete all the items from the dock, and use this transparent icon from here for the centre menu button: http://www.elektrobike-hotels.com/markers/transparent.png
8) The clock is the Digital Clock Widget and the battery is BattStat.
I hope that helps some of you!
The source of the files I've used are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781455 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783946. Thank you to those original posters - without you I wouldn't have even tried! However, I couldn't get either layout to line up exactly so had to make my own instructions.
It may be due to the fonts under MIUI, so this make not line up the same on other ROMs - I'm not sure! You may find the first link above actually works better for you if this one doesn't! I know different ROMs seem to layout things a bit differently!
Nice work!
It needs some fine tuning (size/overlap) and some more icons (modern).
Here's a screenshot on my Moto.

Could yuou upload this for us, or assist with download.

I'd like this to be a community effort and so i would really love if you guys could tell me what icons you guys want and how you'd like them.
This are the information i will need if you want me to add your icon:
1: Name of application
2: Process name of the application [Using Quick System Info, click the application and the details, there will be a process name displayed, thats what i need]
3: The location of the icon of the app [Open up the APK of the app and look for the icon that the app uses. What i need is where it is located and what the name of the icon file is (Geniewidget.apk/res/drawable/icon.png or geniwidget_logo.png)
4: If you can, please make the icon yourself.
5: Thats it, just post the info here! PMing me would be easier if you really need the icon quick.

Nice theme, the status bar battery icon is weird unless the percentage is shown inside.

Here are some elements waiting to be themed. In gallery I mean the blue stripes that appear by selecting. The share menu should be dark as well as the permissions menu. Please, consider fixing these issues.

Sorry, my powers have the limits Some blue elements exist because i don't know how to change it. Some elements, like app permissions, are not fully themed, because they're separate apps that i am not able to theme.

Anyways you are our superhero, who saves us from those tasteless Huawei designers. I hope that we could some day just change to an aosp-based rom and leave EMUI forever.
