I can't sync my HD with Vista Ultimate.
I have Mobile Device Center 6.1 (MDC) with all updates and the mobile resources the device CD.
When I connect it with the cable "Windows Mobile-based Device" appear in Windows Device Manager but MDC does not recognise it.
I've tried both enhanced and ordinary data rate option in "USB to PC" settings.
On the other hand the device syncs perfectly with my laptop with the same Vista and MDC versions.
Please advise.
P.S. Excuse my poor English.
i think...
I think you have to dele the client on you device in Active sync in order to create a new and sync on computer 2.
error messages
are you receiving error messages in relation the RNDIS????
No ... there are no error messages.
I've already tried to delete all the partnerships ... and there is no improvement.
I've synced my old phone with the same both PCs ... so there shouldn't be any problems.
Same here,
New HD - connecting it to, Vista 32 Business, doesn't recognize the phone.
Looked everywhere. Vista tries to load Generic RNDIS driver but fails.
Tried windows update no go
Oh have installed Vista's SP2 beta, don't know if that matters
settings
did you try to change:
settings --> connections --> USB to PC --> disable (fast data synchronisation) under active sync
that was it with my vista..
greetz.. migo

Same problem here. Solved by uninstalling WMDC, reboot PC and reinstall WMDC.

Same problem with Vista 64 Ultimate.
Unsolved as yet, but I switched to syncing over BlueTooth and that's fine.
Syncing the HD over USB works on my laptop.
Thanks mate, your solution worked for me. Cheers
Good Afternoon to all,
Quick background info. I have a Touch HD successfully syncing with Windows XP SP2 & ActiveSync in my office, and also Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 with mobile device manager (or whatever the inbuilt version is called ) at home.
The sync between all three works flawlessly and more than happy with it and have always got access to a working up to date calendar.
However there is one difference, when my phone is sat in its cradle connected via USB to my home PC (vista) it will sync but also allow data connection so, although not really required, it will continue to check for emails, update stocks etc etc. When I am in my office (XP) and try and use anything with regards to connecting to a data connection as listed above, it will not, displaying unable to connect on the weather/stocks tab, or just error in emails.
Any ideas how I can get the XP machine to do what I get with the vista machine? the only way i am working around it at the moment is on the XP machine unticking allow USB connections, removing and re-connecting phone and then it does not connect to ActiveSync and allows a data connection. This works but not the greatest way to do things as have to remember to do the reverse to sync it back again.
Sorry to go on for a bit but wanted to get in as much info as possible in the hope someone may be able to help with my dilemma.
Regards
Jody
Hi Jody,
Is your ActiveSync (on Windows XP) the latest available version ?
Have you checked that all settings are the same on both computers ? (well, as Active Sync is different from Mobile Device Manager, some settings are not called the same).
As a side note, how did you manage to sync your HD with Vista 64 ?
There are so much people complaining it doesn't work.
Did you use the standard v6.0 version "Windows Mobile Device Manager" that is already available in Vista, or did you upgrade to v6.1 ?
Cheers.
When it's synced at home, your Touch HD is using your computers internet connection to update stocks, weather e-mails etc.
When it's synced at work, your device is trying to use your work's internet connection, and failing. Your employer is more than likely not allowing the internet traffic. Do you know if you use a proxy server to connect to the web at work? Do you have unrestricted internet access or is there a firewall?
I do not know enough about how Activesync passes your internet connection to your device. Perhaps someone else knows whether or not this traffic is port 80 and whether or not Activesync automatically uses Internet Explorer's proxy settings, as it is not a global OS thing. Your mail will be pop3 or imap, which are not port 80, in which case the connection to your mail server may be blocked by your employer.
phonatrep - I sync my Touch HD with Vista Home Professional x64 fine straight out of the box, although I think I downloaded the latest WMDC from Microsoft because it does not come bundled with Vista AFAIK.
All the settings are correct, however we do have a rather strict internet firewall running through a proxy. Although I have unrestricted internet access, webmail access is blocked across the board, I am wondering if this is whats stopping me getting emails etc. As an interesting addition, the weather and stocks will update, just cannot use internet or receive emails.
As for syncing with Vista, I have Vista Ultimate 64bit and downloaded the device manager from the microsoft site as didnt find it as part of the original OS. As far as I remember did not hit any problems, other than me pressing wrong thing on the phone and syncing a complete delete of all contacts... oops! has worked perfectly ever since.

Could you please tell me if you use the device manager v6.0 or v6.1 ?
It seems that's part of the trick to make it work.

Same question, WMDC v6.0 or v6.1 ?
That would be very kind of you, sorry to bother you with that stuff
Thanks !
Anybody ?
That would really help me to know if that's WMDC 6.0 or 6.1 that really works for you on Vista 64 bit.
Thanks !
Am at work at the moment but will have a look tonight for you and let you know.

Thanks a lot !
Just wanted to give some feedback too. I am also syncing with Vista x64 and XP x86 without any problems. I checked and am using the WMDC 6.0 on Vista, never had any problems since the very beginning.

Thanks for the feedback !
That's strange I hear a lot of people using WMDC 6.0, which is the one included as factory default in Vista.
There is a 6.1 version that allows to use Windows Mobile 6.1, so I will need WMDC 6.1, but I haven't found anyone using WMDC 6.1 with Vista 64.
I have spent a lot of time searching all forums I know.
I still haven't found anyone successfully using WMDC 6.1 with Vista 64 bit.
(it seems everybody use v6.0)
Is there someone here that uses WMDC 6.1 in Vista 64 bit ?
Thanks !
Ok, I now have WMDC 6.1 installed on Vista 64 bit.
I can sync my HTC Touch HD without any problem.
Please note that I followed this procedure :
-Boot as administrator.
-Install Outlook 2007.
-Reboot as administrator.
-Install Outlook 2007 Service Pack 1.
-Reboot as administrator.
-Install WMDC 6.1 (without the phone connected)
-Reboot as your standard user login.
-Connect the phone to the computer, using the USB cable.
Please note that Microsoft documentations are not consistent about whether or not you need to connect your phone "before" or "after" you install WMDC 6.1.
On some documentations Microsoft says "before", on others Microsoft says "after".
Well, I choose to connect my phone "after" WMDC 6.1 was installed and computer rebooted, and it worked.
Maybe people had problems because when they connect their phone, the default Vista WMDC 6.0 installs a driver for it, then WMDC 6.1 comes and have trouble replacing that driver by the new one.
Hi Everyone
got my HD2 today
unfortunately, My windows 7 does not recognize the Device
althouh the latest WMDC is installed.. any advise?
I tried on the Device to use Active sync with and without "enable faster speed" ..
I would appreciate any feedback..
Strangely that Using sync via bluetooth works fine, but via cable is not ...
Same here
I have the same problem, anyone?
Did you try going to Device Manager, Portable Devices, and then updating the driver for your device? Worked for me using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, and an old Himalaya. If that does not work, try going to Sync Center under Accessories, delete the partnership, and then set up a new sync partner.
Told it to check Windows Update for driver during install (Win7 Pro). Found it and installed.
Yes, tried windows update for driver but could not find :|
No problem here with my HD2 and Windiows 7 (64bit)
Did you install a firewall on Windows 7? (except the one that comes with Windows)? If so, as test, uninstall it (yes.. uninstall!) and try again.
I had problems with syncing my HD2 <> Windows 7 when I had Outpost firewall installed. The only way to fix it (for me) was to uninstall it.
Just disabling was not enough.
Solved for me

Did you try going directly to Device Manager, Portable Devices, and right clicking on your device to update the driver? If you cannot see your device under Portable Devices, then click View, and check Show Hidden Devices, then you should be able to find the device name for your HTC HD2. It you find your device, you can update the driver from there.
If you device driver is indeed up-to-date, the only other suggestion I have is as above stated in the thread to delete the partnership and create a new one in the Sync Center. Using one or the other above suggestions has always gotten my devices successfully connected.
Also, as HTC-HD2 mentioned, it could possibly be some weird incompatibility with a firewall. It the above suggestions do not work, then try disabling your firewall and connecting again. One way or another for sure you will get connected, and despite the frustration, there will indeed be some satisfaction knowing that you finally solved a problem.
Good luck and let us know if you are able to successfully connect.

I am glad it worked for you. It was something I picked up some months ago from searching Google when I had a similar problem to yours with Windows 7.
thanks everyone, it worked only after removing "enable high speed transfer" from USB to PC.... and making again "Windows driver update"
Since I upgraded to 6.5 (+ associated re-installs) whenever I connect the TD2 to one of the computers the email program tries to connect to my email account to download messages.
I have the account configured to Manual download and email sync. is off.
Anyone else seeing this ?
I had the same problem, when i updated to WM 6.5. I did it with Active Sync from a PC with WinXP, but it just didn't work. I then deleted all the sync settings and made the configuration from another PC with Win7 and Windows Mobile Device Center, and then it worked perfect.
Thanks,
However I originally installed from Win7 then XP.
What do you mean "deleted all the sync settings and made the configuration from another PC" ?
No one else seen this ?
So when I hook my HD2 up to my PC (Windows XP) via USB I select on the screen to active sync but the Windows active sync program on my PC doesn't connect with the device. Instead my PC keeps insisting that the phone is a modem and tries to use it, it installs it as a modem. I can use the phone fine as a storage device, but I cannot get it to sync.
It did it the first time, but not again after that.
To try and remedy the problem I have uninstalled the driver Windows installed then tried reconnecting the phone...but every time it connects as a modem and its getting annoying.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
No option on your HD2 when connecting to the PC?
Try this:
Open Start -- Settings -- All Settings -- Connections -- USB to PC.
In here you can change it to what you like as default, but there is a tick box at the bottom which stops it being shown etc.
Thanks. In my post I did say that I "select on the screen to active sync", however I didn't specify that it was on the phone that i did this. The pop-up screen you spoke of does appear and I do select the correct option.
Does having outlook help? lol. Don't say yes because then I will look like a total douche. haha. But I did sync once with it like I said, but then my PC decided to hate me.
Active sync problems
I found that ActiveSync behaved different after I upgraded to 1.48 from 1.43 using the ROM update on the HTC website.
Maybe this will help you too:
Go to Settings -> Other (Misc. settings) -> USB to PC
Select "ActiveSync"
There is a checkbox under it "Enable faster data synchronization"
If it is on try deselecting it, as I said with 1.43 I had to disable this, but with 1.48 I had to enable it.
dude
have you xp still or did you upgrade? did you dl the latest active sync from microsoft?
Thanks y'all. I managed to fix it. Don't know exactly how...maybe my computer was being a *****.
Thanks for your replies anyway.
I'm also having the same problem.
Hey!
I was wondering if you could help. l'm having the same problem. did you manage to work pit what you did to get it working? without it I will not be able to update the ROM.
thanks in advance.

Same problem here
Same problem here, my pc doesn't seem to recognize my phone as a windows-mobile-device. Haven''t find the solution yet and started to use my laptop to install programs and sync via microfsoft myphone, but still I am very interesseted in a solution for what seems to be a compatibility problem between HD2 and Windows XP. Anyone can help?

but by
Go to Settings -> Other (Misc. settings) -> USB to PC
Select "ActiveSync"
There is a checkbox under it "Enable faster data synchronization"
