I used MODEM_I9000XXJPC.tar.md5 with the I9000HVJH1 rom with great success.
Very good reception and the not a single error so far.
How to install:

The other way round doesn't work - you can't use a 2.1 modem in a 2.2 ROM. It sortof works, but no data goes through the 3G/HSPA connection.
i tried this and it works on JM7 tatuyuma rom! thanks a million DocBone!
Does the MODEM have any effect on GPS reception? Or is that part of CODE? Just curious.

do i have to uncheck "F. Reset Time" before flashing this modem file?
what does "F. Reset Time" do while flashing?
Works like a charm. Thanks for the advice Doc!!

because JM7 CODE can use more than 8 satellites and MODEM is the same from JM5 to JM7 , i think that GPS reception is CODE depending and not MODEM.
Just my 2 cents ....
Any more feedbacks ?
i think i will try this trick tonight...
Does this affect WiFi as well? My SGS has pretty poor WiFi reception.
I truely appreciate Doc sharing, using zsjp2, it runs smoothly except gps and wifi weak reception. Just flash jpc modem and gps snaps-in almost instantly, same for wifi. This make the combination of jp2 and jpc my perfect daily use rom

Okay, just flashed on top of Samset 1.9F (PDA XWJM5, Phone XXJM3, CSC SERJM1).
All is working fine. No apparent change to GPS yet, every thing else appears to be working. GPS could only see 8 sats at the time, so no idea if lock on greater than 8.
Will report back after I take a small trip this morning.
[UPDATE] Used MyTracks for a couple of three miles trips. Tracks were better. Track lines stayed within the width of the roads on the map even when stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for a couple of minutes. No jack rabbiting all over the place like previously. Could not lock more than 8 Sats despite seeing 12. Sat lock is within 60 seconds each time.
Battery performance was bad. Used to get 25% loss per one hour of GPS use on MyTracks. This time lost 40% for 30 minutes of GPS use.
[UPDATE 2[ I can confirm the battery drain issue. Lost about 15% in ten minutes yesterday with no other apps running and clean boot.
With the JPC Modem I get:
-63 to 65dBm 21 asu
and with a non JPC modem on the same place I get:
-86dBM and I forgot the asu
Is this translating to a better signal reception performance ?
Curious to know how the new modem from JPH compares with JM4 modem (from JM8).

i have a found a bug. using JM8 + jpc modem. If i lost reception i have to reboot the phone to get it back. It seems that the phone cannot register into the network after i lost signal.
Problem gone with JM4 modem.
2.1 modem with 2.2
I am actually using the XXJM4 modem with the JPH ROM, so yes you can use an eclair modem and i find it gives me the best signal, much better than the modem that comes with JPH.
I'm using the JPC Modem File since the JPC Firmware was released
Have about -85 to 95 dBm with JM5 Modem File etc. and with JPC -75 to 85 dBm

Can you give a quick intro on the first thread about what the JPK modem is and how it compares to other modems.
I tried this in place of the jpm modem that I had with the i9000 rom I put together with the reorient kernal a few days ago and it seemed almost identical to the jpm modem. But with jpk, all bands are enabled by default unlike the jpm modem. Everything else seemed identical to jpm like signal strength and weak signals where I would normally have a decent signal. Other popeople may have better luck, but it just seems so far I haven't found a hsupa modem that matched the quality of ji6

ya its weird with these modems, it like all or nothing even with all the same bands as ji6. its like when there is data, its blazing fast, but then i can move 10 feet and have no service or data when my wifes captivate will have full bars and 3g. its almost like its a band switching problem but around my house i get the same band almost all the time so it shouldnt be switching so i dont know. im starting to give up until theres a better modem released.

This is incorrect.
You dont get all bands by default chose automatic then go to select band and 850 will be removed.
also JI6 fc'ed when it gets a data conection.
is it because i am using it with the i9000 fw.
anyone with cog beta 9.1 how is it?
does it have the same problems we have with the reorented kernal and i9000 fw

When I flashed jpk, all my bands were enabled. Which is why I said unlike jpm. I know that on jpm 850wcdma is not enabled. You cannot use ji6 with reorient kernel or an i9000 rom it will soft reboot everytime the data connects. You have to use something like jpk or jpm or or of the other hsupa modems

Ok, I just updated from Tayutama's 1.0.2 with the JPK modem to 1.0.3 by the patch.
When I first flashed this rom the 850 WCDMA was not selected in the Debug service menu. I went in and activated the 850. This was the JPM modem.
Earlier this week I flashed the JPK with Odin and checked the service menu and 850 was active.
Tonight when I flashed the update JPM was reinstalled through the patch and in the service menu 850 was active.
No real point just an FYI
i get a better signal with jpk instead of ji6/jpm....plus i have to use it lol
I've had no luck getting any of these modems to function with GSM 850..
WCDMA works but no GSM, and in the mountains GSM 1900 sucks at best.

This problem vexed a bunch of us, but was solved about a week ago. Follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8833581&postcount=165
We don't know why it works, but it does. You need to start fresh with the JG8 modem, verify 850GSM is working, then build your desired configuration from that starting point.
Hi,
Im on darky 9.3 and very happy with the rom but Ive massive gps issues...
It takes about 5min to fix, sometimes more, as soon as Im start to move (car, feet) the signal stops at the last point...
In copilot Im gettin only 6 sat and no one is about the half...
One you have a custom rom ask the developer search in his pages read the faqs .
Two millions of posts on here about GPS use search and try the fixes posted .
jje
I recommend you try docs rom based on JP8 and the Q1 modem. My GPS is great now.
On some units, the precision of GPS is poor and often can't be fixed enough by software. Only 2 solutions:
- RMA for a new built unit
- make the hardware antena fix suggested in this forum (search here for the fix)
On bad units, despite all firmware/software hacks, precision is bad. It will be ok in rural areas but will jump streets in urban areas with high roads density.
Probably, the soldering on antenna varies from unit to unit on early models, explaining why for some it's ok and others not. Also, many live and try GPS in areas with lower roads density, giving them the impression of a good track despite a bad precision of the GPS. Also, tons of posts with only test of the fix speed. The fix speed was solved enough on some ROMs, but the precision will never be enough on high density urban areas
Well assuming that its not hardware I would try a different modem. I was on darkys rom and had a very bad GPS with the JQ1 modem but JVE works very well for me.
I suggest you try a couple different ones, you can get CWM flashable zip files from this nice person here: http://perka.zapto.org/

The problem is that GPS is more complicated than that.. Just because it says "5-10 accuracy", how do you know that's true? You need tracks to work that stuff out.
Originally, there were a few people here who grabbed GPS status and pointed out their "GPS was perfect". But, after pressuring them for ages, they either admitted that their tracks were horrible (but found excuses), or disappeared. There was one guy though who I saw with a decent track, but I suspect he might have used a bluetooth GPS (I have never seen his results replicated)..
Test using tracks, preferably using a second GPS as reference (such as a fitness GPS). Number of satelites and claimed accuracy means very little, because satellites move around. How do you know if there were maybe a maximum of 11 the first time, and not 16 the second? Hence why you need a reference.. So you can compare the tracks accurately.
As you have said before .
Post was really only a reference .
My GPS does what i want tracks i return are good enough for my use as is location etc .
My tracks have been posted before in the GPS thread .
Next time i use tracks i might remember to post them . But you ignored the last ones i posted .

I played last night a little bit around with my gps because i had the same problem.
I found a code to get in the gps service menu *#*#3214789650#*#*.
I found the SUPL/CP Settings and there is the supl.google.com server, i remembered i had some gps problems on my Nokia E71 too, long time ago.
On my Nokia i fixed it easily with the supl.nokia.com server, and i changed from google to the nokia server and now i get the gps fix in a few seconds.
I tested it about 6 times, always deleted the gps cache, works for me.
Maybe you can test it and give a reply, you dont need to reboot your phone, it works immediately.

Ohh, i understand.
For me, the first Gingerbread modem (JVE) solved all my GPS problems. I even compared it with my Garmin Nuvi and they had same precision and speed/refresh rate, the only difference is that the Galaxy needed 2 or 3 min without data connection to lock satellites, while the Garmin only needed 30 secs. I can't complain
Good Day, galaxy users from Luxembourg. I'm starting this topic because I'm using latest cm7 build and I had a lot of troubles with my baseband and I didn't find a post from LU, so I tested nearly everything

Hey there,
I've been using the leaked GB JVK 2.3.3 since it came out and it's been excellent, although I had to reflash the JVK modem a second time separately as I had problems with the GPS not getting any satellite locks. Not sure why doing the modem twice would fix it, but it did.
After that GB been excellent and even better now that I have the battery from the SGS Armani that is 1650mah instead of the standard 1500mah. I was getting to about 12-13hrs before getting the battery low alerts on a typical day, now I've been at around 15hrs and still have around 25% left
Hello,
After updating to gb I never notice any special problem with tango,
can you explain the trouble you have ?
Good day,
Laurent.
Well I had problems espacially while changing the network from Tango to some foreign provider like T-Online...
I also had some trouble after a reboot of my phone... I had network connection but I couldn't call...
I had some trouble that the network just said "unavailable" but I could answer calls but I couldn't call someone....
very strange... now everything's working just fine

First try to set your wireless network to gsm only..try to make the same calls..if you have no more call drop issue...get your phone replaced.
I am one of the unlucky ones who are having serious issues when gsm/wcdma mode is selected.. basically when the signal strength changes and the phone is trying to lock to another cell..it simply disconnects and resets the radio..actually you can try running LogCat and see...just before your radio resets the is a process of usb host getting installed/disconnected and gets blacklisted..something like that.
If you are not having these symptoms than it is some other issue...try it out and see.
Normally cell phone providers have soft handoff where the signal strength decreases and the strength from other cell site increases and that site starts processing the call hard handoff happens between gsm and cdms probiders normally seen in roaming calls...by any chance are you in an area where reception is weak

Hi, as the title says, my GPS doesn´t work with cm7.
I already reflashed the ROMs and tried different ones (Neutrino 2.5p2 and Morrisoft 0.7).
I also reflashed the radio.
I have gapps and gps-status installed and I´ve already tried to re-calibrate it, download A-GPS data etc.
It sometimes finds 1 satellite, but thats gone after some seconds.
GPS did work on stock 2.3.4 Bell firmware.
did anyone have this problem, too and solved it?
I feel your pain. I have Neutrino 2.2 installed and the GPS takes a few minutes to lock and it is not as accurate as when I had the stock 2.3.4 AT&T rom. I have tried all the fixes already but nothing seems to help...
yeah, that´s the same problem i have.
I think i´m gonna try some other roms.
Same here.
I'm using a sportstracking app called Endomondo, which has an "Auto Pause" feature that automatically halts the time when I'm not moving.
This worked without issues on my old phone, HTC Desire (CM7), for over a year now.
But with my Atrix I have major problems using the sportstracker. During a bike ride, it always halts the time because the app thinks that I'm not moving.
It seems that GPS lost its signal very often.
Don't know what I can do here, also tried different roms, tweaks, radios....strange.
Is there any logfile I can analyze?
you should maybe try differents radios to see.
Have you try to wait some time 30sec/1min?

I had to comment on this one. I had similar troubles using endomondo sports tracker app. This began after I downgraded my radio from 37p to 36p. I am back on 37p which is the stock radio on current AT&T USA. I will create a new thread for comparison between these two radios.

30p radio is ancient and downlad speeds are ridiculously slow. 30p radio will save you lots of battery if you dont really use mobile internet for heavy data.
*GPS is just triangulation, so technically any radio should be able to get good reception as long as you don't flash a radio and use navigation across country immediately after.

But accuracy is very....how can i say...unstable.
Is there any logfile i can check?
mine will never lock on during first attempt. however, if i try to use nav, then exit, then nav again it locks on in like 3 seconds.
neutrino 2.5
so can i flash any radio, no matter what my current is and what my provider is?
(currently fido in canada)
search in dev forum returned this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540642.
in my experience, use the latest radio for your country/carrier otherwise your 3g/4g down/up speed will suffer.
I have use the fix above and edited it for australia and I get a quick gps fix every time all the time on any rom and radio combination.
Hope this help
I don´t need 3g or 4g, what´s the best gps-radio?
Edit: I can´t flash the gps fix, "installation aborted"
