GPS not working CM7 - Atrix 4G General

Hi, as the title says, my GPS doesn´t work with cm7.
I already reflashed the ROMs and tried different ones (Neutrino 2.5p2 and Morrisoft 0.7).
I also reflashed the radio.
I have gapps and gps-status installed and I´ve already tried to re-calibrate it, download A-GPS data etc.
It sometimes finds 1 satellite, but thats gone after some seconds.
GPS did work on stock 2.3.4 Bell firmware.
did anyone have this problem, too and solved it?

I feel your pain. I have Neutrino 2.2 installed and the GPS takes a few minutes to lock and it is not as accurate as when I had the stock 2.3.4 AT&T rom. I have tried all the fixes already but nothing seems to help...

yeah, that´s the same problem i have.
I think i´m gonna try some other roms.

Same here.
I'm using a sportstracking app called Endomondo, which has an "Auto Pause" feature that automatically halts the time when I'm not moving.
This worked without issues on my old phone, HTC Desire (CM7), for over a year now.
But with my Atrix I have major problems using the sportstracker. During a bike ride, it always halts the time because the app thinks that I'm not moving.
It seems that GPS lost its signal very often.
Don't know what I can do here, also tried different roms, tweaks, radios....strange.
Is there any logfile I can analyze?

you should maybe try differents radios to see.
Have you try to wait some time 30sec/1min?

so which radio can i flash? I´m currently on
N_01.77.33P

Already tried. 30p and 37p att radio and europe 100.00R. Didn't see a big difference in GPS function regarding my sportstracking.

Try to flash an other radio. Flashing a ROM doesn't change radio

I had to comment on this one. I had similar troubles using endomondo sports tracker app. This began after I downgraded my radio from 37p to 36p. I am back on 37p which is the stock radio on current AT&T USA. I will create a new thread for comparison between these two radios.

30p radio is ancient and downlad speeds are ridiculously slow. 30p radio will save you lots of battery if you dont really use mobile internet for heavy data.
*GPS is just triangulation, so technically any radio should be able to get good reception as long as you don't flash a radio and use navigation across country immediately after.

Try RC1 my gps locked in withen 5 sec
Sent from my MB860 using XDA

I've tried "faster fix" in the market and it seems to make the gps lock a bit faster, still no where near what it used to be though.

The fix is fast enough at my site, maybe ~ 20seconds ...
But accuracy is very....how can i say...unstable.
Is there any logfile i can check?

mine will never lock on during first attempt. however, if i try to use nav, then exit, then nav again it locks on in like 3 seconds.
neutrino 2.5

so can i flash any radio, no matter what my current is and what my provider is?
(currently fido in canada)

search in dev forum returned this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540642.
in my experience, use the latest radio for your country/carrier otherwise your 3g/4g down/up speed will suffer.
I have use the fix above and edited it for australia and I get a quick gps fix every time all the time on any rom and radio combination.
Hope this help

I don´t need 3g or 4g, what´s the best gps-radio?
Edit: I can´t flash the gps fix, "installation aborted"

just use the newest..
and the result of this will not be plain the "best" radio. also you don't know about different networks in different countries etc... i second my precessor, just use the newest as long as it doesn't make trouble.
I use the newest one, until i find a problem.
you won't find a problem with newer ones, since all radios as of yet are abysimal at best with 3G
Bluetooth now works well on 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
I am in the UK and did the update from HTC to fix the Sense speed etc.
Once I did this my Bluetooth stack was shot. Dropped all the time and would hang connecting to A2DP unless I did a reboot etc.
Not sure what the radio number was in that build.
I just got fed up and rooted my phone and flashed 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22.
Wow, now Bluetooth is working like a charm (only been 1 day but a world of difference).
3G and 2G seem the same as before for connection and signal etc.
Just thought I would let you all know my findings.

GPS on 2.1 ROM's

I've been flashing and switch radio's like crazy the last couple of weeks since all these new ROM's have been coming out. Anyway, since all of this, at some point my GPS quit working reliably. Sometimes it will grab a signal, sometimes not (always testing outside in clear sky).
I've seen a few people complaining of this exact same thing, yet no reliable solution. I've placed this in the Dev section in hopes a Dev with GPS experience see's it and reviews our problems.
Currently I'm on bcrook's port of Cyan 5.x T5. I've reflashed radio, h-boot & recovery and restored my Nandroid. No change.
Any idea's.....anyone?
I was on SuperEclair 0.9/1.0 and it stopped working. I switched back to CapyMod's Legend Sense (based on Sanpei's) and it still isn't working :S
Is there any troubleshooting that can be done? Logs somewhere perhaps?
Well, either flashing test5, or flashing my radio again has made it work again for GMaps and GPS Status, but am having problems with CoPilot.
CoPilot quits about 5 seconds after starting, so I plugged in so I could get a LogCat of it, and it starts. After many tests, it does indeed work while plugged in, and does not work when unplugged. I guess I'll have to contact ALK.
You just re-flashed the same radio again? Did you use the new windows tool?
Yes, I just flashed the same radio again, plus Hboot and recovery. No, I probably didn't need to do the recovery, but in the end it didn't hurt anything eitrher. I am on old radio, just as a FYI.
No I did not use the tool, I did it manually from Cursors instructions thread.
From here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
I'll give that a try, thanks
I have a question for more knowledgeable people than myself and a thought for all of us.
A lot of roms are now using the tweaked settings in the build.prop files to increase the upload/download 3G/Edge speeds.
These settings are known to interfere with 3G/Edge connectivity depending on the network, carrier, phone, rom, etc. - I think.
I haven't done this yet, but it would be worth testing whether reverting back to the standard settings for 3G/Edge in the build.prop files results in better more consistent GPS connections. You would lose the blazing fast download speeds, but you might gain stability and consistent connectivity.
I don't use GPS much or CoPilot or any navigator.
Someone should push an edited build.prop or build.sapphire.prop file to their phone and test.
The modified settings are something like:
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask = 4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1 = 14449
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 5
I think the original were:
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
adb remount
adb push build.sapphire.prop /system/build.sapphire.prop
adb shell reboot
Here is one of the threads on the topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595291
SuperEclair for 32A NR has the modded settings for speed. I would be happy to remove them if we get confirmation.
Just FYI, the cupcake my Magic came factory-installed with had:
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.hep = 1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask = 4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1 = 800881
Carrier is Orange.pl in case it matters.
Time to revive this thread? Seems there's no solution in sight.
FWIW I am currently testing the CM port to new radio by carz12, and my gps is not working at all (no position fix).

My GPS is working just fine with Cyanogen 5 stable from alan090.
Mine is not working eirher. I have CM5 stable (the same with other ROM versions). The GPS worked within 1sec on Ndrive with HTC Stock ROM. With CM mod , i reboot the phone , go to Ndrive, works like charm ; exit; enter again and it doesn't work ..... so i don't use navigation any more... less of a headake ...
if a solution comes up i am more than willing to try it ..

The first new radio rom I tried was HTC's official senseui cupcake (rooted, though), and that had issues too.
I distinctly recall having gps issues while I was using old radio roms as well. Those included CM4, SuperD, and Cannon's Complete Eclair. I will experiment with this though. Does anyone know a simple way to carry apps and settings between roms over different radio versions?

[Q] Android Phone Signal Fluctuates

I'm with T-Mobile and the signal for my hd2 is solid on winmo, but when I boot android my phone signal fluctuates. It goes from 5 bars to 2 bars to none then back to 5 bars again and the cycle continues. I've tried several roms and radio changes as well as android built but that does not seem to fix the problem.
Does anyone know a way to fix this?
As of right now, I'm using Chucky with 2.12 radio and my favorite build Froyostone V2.
Mine does the same with froyostone v2 as well. Im running 2.08.50 radio. Frustrating!

Yep, have the same issue on Bangsters 1.3 build :\
T-Mobile, 2.12.50 radio
same issue with o2 and Radio 2.10 tested with HyperDroid and Bangsters
I'm T-Mobile and my signal is different depending on where I am at! But if I find the sweet spot it stays dead on.

Same issue. with radio ver. 2.12.50.02_2.
Signal seems solid on WinMo but on Android Bangsters 1.3a it jumps sometimes to Edge insted of Hsdpa. it depends on where I am. Conn-type-RMNET - PPP does not work for me.
The bottom line the signal is beter on WinMo. Hope this will be solved on next build.
I concur... I just recently started using Android on my T-Mobile HD2 and can relate that the signal quality as well as data connection is sketchy at best. One second I'll have a full signal and the next I have none. Then once the signal comes back, any and all data services also don't work.
Using Darkstone V2 and Radio 2.12.50.2
Exactly the same for me which is a shame because its the only problem left I'm having. The signal is there and its strong then it disappears and just keeps running that cycle all the time.

Let me test mdeejay's build, let's see if its better.
I have had the same problem, so i downloaded the "mdeejay_froyo_sense_v1.5_NOAXI " build, copied "rootfs.img" to my Andrid folder, restarted, and now it seems to not loose the signal at all. Full / almost full signal all the time.
I also tried to use "zImage" from the mdeejay-build. It also worked, but WiFi would not start at all. Just said "Fail", so i switched back
Not sure if this works for everyone, but it sure is worth a try...

in settings under phone/cell standby what percent do you have without a signal? Mine is usually really high 50-80%. I've been able to pull 32 hrs out of a single charge when its on the lower end.

Whenever you switch your zImage you have to also change your bcm4329 module, if not Wifi will not work.
I think we really need an exploration in radios in general. Pick a random set of builds and everyone switch out radios to see how connection goes. I live in a city that has the HSPA+ from T-Mobile and there are times I can't get voice to work on Miri 6.5/Bangers 1.3/2.12 (the latest) radio.
I am using chuckydriod with radio 2.12 and android build hyperdriod 1.2 using latest michyprima R11 kernal with axi scaling.
I have excellent radio performance in the following modes.
GSM only
Wcdma only
Dual mode rarely switches to GSM even when wcdma is dropping data connections in high GSM signal areas wich is a bug in my opinion.

Downloaded the Desire HD beta2 Android and i use the "rootfs" from that build...
Have not had any "zero-drops" at all, and i have signal in some bad areas where i had nothing before...
facing this problem too
using hyperdroid 1.5 and 2.12.50.02
I upgrade my radio to the newest one 2.14 on meedj's evo sense warm 1.0 thinking that it would help my phone signal, but it didn't help. Then i started messing around with my "network settings" and to my surprised it seemed to help. My cell signal still fluctuate but it never reaches "no bar".
Here's what I did:
Go to seetings, then wireless & network, mobile networks, network operators, then wait until you get 4 or 5 signal bars and click on "select automactically". I don't know what it does but it helps me and I hope it helps you too.
Note: you can also select "search network" and manually add your network in, it doesn't hurt trying. [/COLOR]
Let me know if this works for you.

HD2 Europe mobile-reception not workin flawlessly

Hey guys,
i have constant battles with my HD2 running Android. The mobile reception and logically because of that APN is also not workin properly.
Example: I'm at home and have full mobile-reception and internet is working flawlessly. One second later nothings workin... The reception display shows 4/4 lines and one second later 0/4. But i didn't move.. Same with WLAN and APN..
I guess it's not a "build problem", cuz i had this with lots of builds. So it's maybe a windows mobile thing. I have flashed 2.12.50 radio and chucky droid rom.
I tried 2.14 but my conversational partners had very strong echos. (with MIUI-Build)
I searched the forum and googled but i didn't find any solution for this..
Really need this to be fixed.

I don't know a lot about android. But i had similar "echo" problems when i used a TMOUS based rom. I use miris 1.80 based rom with 2.14 radio in the uk on vodafone with no problems.
Miri Rom Here: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2520
Have you tried a RMNET based android build. The data connection with those is slower but generally more stable. I use ppp but do get the data drop off. but turning the mobile data off and turning back on again sorts the problem.
It would probably better to post such questions in the android general section.

Same problem here. Signal drops quite frequently and for now i like the sense builds which you cant switch to 2G (unless im missing something). With other builds if i switch to 2G its sort of fine but slow data connection.

Thats so strange. About every 10mins i have a totally data loss. Tried different radios and roms. Nothing helped. As i tried 2.14 i had strong echo issues.
i uploaded some screenshots. They're all taken at the same place. So you can see how strange these reception changes are...

Boy I'm glad to see this thread, I thought it was just me!
I am having exactly the same issue, and have done since using android builds. The only workaround I have is to switch on plane mode, and then switch it off again which seems to work for an hour or two. But then the signal goes all wonky again.
I wonder if this is also affecting the battery life. I'm sure I read somewhere once that loss of signal results in more battery use as the phone is constantly trying to locate signal.
I have tried a number of radio/rom combinations with no real change. As mentioned above, if I switch to 2G the signal seems more stable, but the data is unbearably slow.
I'm in the UK by the way.

I have the same problem. I might try the 10.2.5 radio as above?
I had this issue with Android that signal drops for no reason. The trick to my problem? Disable in the Netwok Mode "GSM/WCDMA Auto" and choose "GSM Only". Now the signal should work flawlessly without drops. It worked for me

Would it be bad to revert to my old radio rather than the 4.2.2. radio?

I'm on 4.2.2. with the new radio and I think it's been giving me tons of notification problems where I'm not receiving and texts but I can send them and stuff. I don't know if it has anything to do with the ROM or kernel (PA, Franco r110), but I am guessing it is the radio
Nope. Its perfectly fine to use whichever radio that works best for you.
It can be network issues that your company is having. So give it a little while.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Are you talking about System Notifications? Those uses data. If you can get browse web pages, then you should be getting those, and your radio should be working.
But it doesn't hurt to flash different radios. I had heard the .17 radio was better and had more stable connection so I tried it but it was actually worse and I would get "no service" all the time. Then I just flash back the latest (.48) and haven't had a "no service" since. So yeah, it's safe.
