I briefly had another phone that had a free movie on it (also a samsung galaxy phone) and i had made a copy of the movie, and would like to see if it plays on my epic, but not sure where to drop it in my folders? any advice?
drop it anywhere on ur sd card. Open the MyFiles app and find the file and click on it and if it is supported it should play it.

I have a few movies [some from old phone in mp4 format, some avis for the kids to enjoy once I install a player] that I installed onto SD card into folders called "videos" and "movies"
I would like these to be easily accesible but they are not found in the photos and video tab.
How do I either make then visible via the homescreen or if not that then easily accessible without having to go via file browser?

I found that if i created a folder called 'my videos' in the 'my documents' folder on the sd card then any videos i placed in there would appear on the photos and videos tab on the home screen - hope this helps.
Okay I will try that. Thanks.
I expanded my SD and moved Avatar from the 2GB card onto a 16GB, however i am not sure where i need to place the file so it links up with the avatar icon on the device. Any help would be great!
avatar.dcf goes into a directory called Movie on the SD card
The icon wont work but you can put it anywhere and run it from the movie player.
I downloaded the system dump and tried to install the avatar.apk but it didn't work. Is it even possible for me to install it?

why would you want to its just a shortcut that launches the movie. not the movie itself
Not trying to be a douche but this isnt android development.
Were you able to successfully move the file. I've heard it can't be moved, if it can be moved that would be awesome so I can put my 16GB card in my phone.

+1
I was able to move it to my dad's 8gb card. I put it in the supplied card reader and put it in my computers card reader. Then i attached the phone to the computer with the supplied cable with the 8gb card IN THE PHONE. Next i just did a simple cut and paste with the movie folder on the T-Mobile 2gb memory card.
ETA- It works with the icon too.

ok wen u copied ur 2gb to 8gb u just moved the files, this is wat u need to do so it can work, will work on any size card.
the avatar movie file is a dcf. it loads using DRM protocol on the vibrant. it can't be distributed to another system. unless you can get around the rights usage on it. which i can't. lol
the 3gp file is just a 3 minute trailer the actual movie file is a dcf file and is 1.4gb, the "avatar" icon in the apps menu is an actual app the plays the dcf file for the movie. right now im trying to copy both the dcf and the 3gp file to my sd card from my friends new vibrant then i adb pull /system/avatar/ /android for the apk file to install on to my nexus one. we'll see if the apk will install.

The trailer file is a 3gp but the actually move is a dcf
Adb pull /system/apps/avatar and pushing it to any other phone doesn't work. I think it looks for a signature of the phone model and if it doesn't match up it wont install. Maybe some editing of the files will help make it work. Also with some research of the 1.4gb file dcf file is actually encrypted so either the vibrant or the app has the key. I will look into this further when I get a chance to mess with my buddy's vibrant again. The dcf file has a better resolution than one I can make with my copy of the DVD into a 3gp which is my reason for doing this.
i want to play avi files on my nook. im using cm7 on a sd card. is there a directory i can drop them in?
In whatever folder u put them, just make sure that your video player app reads from this folder.

If your uSD has available space then you can put the avi there or you can put it in the eMMC /media, you should have at least 1GB if you have not used it for anything else.
I'd recommend the free Vital Player for playing .avi files on Android. You can store them anywhere you wish and just tell Vital Player where they are (or just browse to them)...
Sorry but a really noob question ..........
Where do I put music and video's so that the default app's find them?
I thought the SD card was 'external_SD' so that's where I put the music folders. But then, when I try to navigate to that on the phone, there's nothing in there. And also, when I open the music app' it doesn't show anything that I've added!!
So can you tell me where you put audio and video files please.
Sorry, I really show know this but it's not something I've done on any of my phones before!
Thanks in advance for you help.
SDCard : Internal Storage ,the 16Gb build in
External SD : The micro SD (T-Flash) you insert into phone
And inside Windows Explorer ,it should be two drives ,say ,Drive E and Drive F ,one is internal ,one is external
Hope this help
I think memory your looking at is the built in memory. I put some video files in the folder marked media and it found them ok. If you want to find the external memory you need to go to settings, wireless and network then usb utilities to connect tovpc. Thenn i just put all my music on there. Again it found them ok.

Right, I've done the music files. I've dumped them in the 'Music' folder in the above screenshot and it appears to have found them. The only annoying thing is that it's sorted each song alphabetically and not by track number!
Now I just need to work out where to put videos.
I also still can't see, from my screenshot of the folder structure above, where my SD card is. If it is that 'external_SD' then why aren't files showing when I explore it on the phone?
And does the Note not play .mov files? I've transferred some across but when trying to open them it states, "No applications can perform this action".

right click, create a folder in the "media" folder called "videos". put your videos in there
I have always just used Windows built in Picture and Video Transfer, I like how it renames and adds everything to the locations I choose ie: Home videos folder for videos and Picture library for pics.
What I want to do is import just my DCIM folder not Everything that is on my SDcard.
My S2 this worked fine.
I know I can drag and drop my dcim folder to a separate SDcard and then invoke the transfer, but it is a hassle. I also know Dropbox and cloud storage is probably the way to go but I have all my photos and video stored in my library on a NAS this way and would like to continue.
any ideas? How are you doing it?
Thanks-

Same. I just drag and drop things where I need them if I'm plugged in. But most of the time I just use AirDroid, so I can do it wirelessly. And in the past I also had an app (I don't recall the name) that when launched, would share the SD Card over the network, which Windows can then see. I created a shortcut in My Computer to that network drive, so it showed up like any other hard drive on my computer and I could drag and drop files to it. Was handy, but I haven't had much use for that lately, since everything is in the cloud now, and AirDroid works on nearly any network without any prior setup.
