[Q] Picture and Video Transfer - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have always just used Windows built in Picture and Video Transfer, I like how it renames and adds everything to the locations I choose ie: Home videos folder for videos and Picture library for pics.
What I want to do is import just my DCIM folder not Everything that is on my SDcard.
My S2 this worked fine.
I know I can drag and drop my dcim folder to a separate SDcard and then invoke the transfer, but it is a hassle. I also know Dropbox and cloud storage is probably the way to go but I have all my photos and video stored in my library on a NAS this way and would like to continue.
any ideas? How are you doing it?
Thanks-

Same. I just drag and drop things where I need them if I'm plugged in. But most of the time I just use AirDroid, so I can do it wirelessly. And in the past I also had an app (I don't recall the name) that when launched, would share the SD Card over the network, which Windows can then see. I created a shortcut in My Computer to that network drive, so it showed up like any other hard drive on my computer and I could drag and drop files to it. Was handy, but I haven't had much use for that lately, since everything is in the cloud now, and AirDroid works on nearly any network without any prior setup.

hook it up via usb to your laptop, pull down the notification bar, hit the usb notification, press mount... after that it should show up as a removable drive in your "my computer" folder... typically windows also uses the autoplay feature so that you can choose what you want to do with the mounted sd card

just drag and drop.how do the files get to the right places.my sd card has partitioned to run a Hero Rom
the phone automatically searches for both music and pictures in your sd card.. you can drag and drop and store them wherever you want... if you're OCD like me, put pictures in the DCIM folder which is where pictures are stored after you take them with the camera or camcorder application... music can pretty much go anywhere

Pictures driving me MAD!

Hi all, i want to copy some pictures over from my old phone, but where do i put them, if i put them in the same folder as the rest, the phone does not display them, and they all then get corrupted, i created a folder called pictures, but the phone still does not see them???
Weird?
Within photos and Videos you have to press "Album" twice and then you will see an overview of all the photos on the device or SD-card. If, for example, you have a directory "pictures" on your sd-card it will display and once pressed, it will open with the photos in it. Then choose MENU - Choose album as favorite and you will see that once you enter the Photos and Videos tab, this album is displayed...
In my thumbnail view the pictures look crappy as well, but once opened they look ok.
edit: keep in mind that the photo's tab will only display the first 99 pictures in a map

Put them in the "My Documents" folder (on the phone, not the storage card) and they'll show up in the lists for selecting ringtones and sounds.
Oh now thats a bit daft?, how do you access the my folders on the phone?
Any way to also stop them showing in music player also?
Anybody? I cant access the My Documents on the phone memory?
What do you mean you can't access it? How are you trying ot do it?
They shouldn't show in your music player if you put them in My Documents.
Well when i connect the phone in disk drive mode all i can see is the mem card, if i connect in active sync, i cant see anything?
Ok connected in sync mode after a reset and i can see the folder you said, put my files in there, but still cant see them in the phone menu?
Fount it Do This
Enable Active Sync
My Mobile Device\Application Data\Sounds
But how do i stop the sounds appearing in the audio player its annoying?

Where do I put music & video files?

Sorry but a really noob question ..........
Where do I put music and video's so that the default app's find them?
I thought the SD card was 'external_SD' so that's where I put the music folders. But then, when I try to navigate to that on the phone, there's nothing in there. And also, when I open the music app' it doesn't show anything that I've added!!
So can you tell me where you put audio and video files please.
Sorry, I really show know this but it's not something I've done on any of my phones before!
Thanks in advance for you help.
SDCard : Internal Storage ,the 16Gb build in
External SD : The micro SD (T-Flash) you insert into phone
And inside Windows Explorer ,it should be two drives ,say ,Drive E and Drive F ,one is internal ,one is external
Hope this help
I think memory your looking at is the built in memory. I put some video files in the folder marked media and it found them ok. If you want to find the external memory you need to go to settings, wireless and network then usb utilities to connect tovpc. Thenn i just put all my music on there. Again it found them ok.

Right, I've done the music files. I've dumped them in the 'Music' folder in the above screenshot and it appears to have found them. The only annoying thing is that it's sorted each song alphabetically and not by track number!
Now I just need to work out where to put videos.
I also still can't see, from my screenshot of the folder structure above, where my SD card is. If it is that 'external_SD' then why aren't files showing when I explore it on the phone?
And does the Note not play .mov files? I've transferred some across but when trying to open them it states, "No applications can perform this action".

I am pretty sure within windows - while the transfer is happening, there is a way to click on the transfer icon and change the parameters of what is transfered - but the way i remember it, if the transfer is quick, you can't get to these options.
For me, i don't ever use camera mode. I use Media mode, then click on the phone under my computer and browse to the DCIM folder (on card, or phone) and move files manually. But i usually don't even do that. I let dropbox sync it all automatically. It is free and i don't lose anything because i forget to transfer.
I have the auto play settings all set up. It seems to only do this with android. My wife's iPhone and our camera transfer right.
I like the way windows renames the files and puts them in dated folders.

Getting Video off Phone and into Computer (5.1.1)

Hi folks;
Stupid question maybe but man, I'm getting really pissed off with how hard it is to use Android and starting to understand why there's a cult of people flocking to the iPhone.
Anyway, I've got a Nexus 4 with Android 5.1.1 on it and I shot some video on my vacation. You'd think I could get it off the phone and into Picasa or Youtube or my desktop but man, I'm about to lose it!
How the hell do you get video off this piece of **** ? This is NOT intuitive at all.
Videos should be stored in the DCIM directory on internal storage. Simply connect your phone to a computer and browse to the DCIM directory and copy the video to your computer.

Thanks for the help! I just went there (to that directory) and there's nothing
Did you check all the subdirectories? They are stored in DCIM/Camera on my phone.
I did. There's DCIM and underneath that there's a folder called Camera and that one is empty. I'm wondering if they are stored somewhere else because they still seem to be on the phone. On a more positive note, they are automagically uploading to YouTube. I have no idea if I instigated that or it just happened on it's own. There seems to be little documentation on how any of this works or where the videos are actually stored.
Your help is appreciated nevertheless !
