i was wondering who in here has come over to this phone from a blackberry.

i have been reading some on here about the "lag" with the HTC HD2. is this true? all the reviews i read say nothing about it. and i do not like a laggy phone. and disabling Sense makes no "sense" to me...
also, is there alot of customizations that can be done? how about updates? are they common like on a blackberry? will win7 mobile be able to be run on this? hows the battery life compared to the iphone? (that is why i dont have an iphone any more, i cant stand the battery life)

I jummped the Blackberry ship for the HD2 last week.
I wont be able to answer ALL your questions 100%, but I will be able to help.
Lag, If you use your task manager and close the unused programs, then you *shouldnt* have any lag. I am still using the stock phone settings from T-Mo. and I am not seeing any lag at all just by closing the app/programs this way.
Customizing, The phone is still new, and the devs here are working hard to push out new stuff all the time. But the phone is VERY customisable. If your comfy working with DLL and CAB files you can change the layout/colors/buttons/exctra of the dif screanes and apps.
WP7, As of right now.. No. But the devs here are working on it, as well as the Droid os.
While Blackberry has updates offten, it still upto the provider to push em out to the end users, and T-Mo, is the worst at doing so. But you can get all the updates/mods/apps from the devs here.
Batterie life can be awesome, or it can be the bane of your phone. lol. If you keep task manager clean, the batterie will last for wat feels like for ever. I ran both of the Transformer movies from start to credits, played on the internet a bit, and made a few calls, and still had a lot of bat strength left. but if you run a lot of apps in the back ground, and dont keep your task manager clean, you will charge your phone 2x a days.
Over all im loving this phone. I have a ton to learn about it still, but it is a great phone.

I have to say with my blackberry experience with the one I carry around for work, a Nextel 8350i. being the network admin for the company I work for, and I also work with the BES server software. they can get pretty laggy as well at times. especially when there is alot of background data transfer going on to the BES server.
In the end i prefer my HD2 to blackberry. I consider the BB a good platform for someone who wants something that just works, and arent very technically minded like the people I work with. I can already imagine the issues Id run into trying to introduce the WinMo platform there.
WinMo is good for technical users that like to tweak and customize and can live with or work around the occasional bug, and are able to figure things out for themselves or with the help of a support forum like this
I would never recommend WinMo for someone that requires hand holding with anything technical/computer related. it just becomes too much of a hassle and waste of time for me having to support them.

IF you successfully install HSPL, the chances of really "bricking" your HD2 are pretty low. The worst thing you can do "brick" a TMOUS HD2 is to flash an incompatible Radio (one with ...51... in the identifier string). As long as you stay with T-Mobile compatible Radios/ROMs, you should be fine.

Yeah, it has threaded sms messages. And there are almost always ways to recover your phone from bricking it, unless you flash the wrong radio, like he said in the post above. Just don't flash ones with .51 in them and your fine. Odds are you won't even need to flash your radio, so it's nothing to worry about. Good luck with your new HD2. Its the most versatile, powerful phone when you learn to use it well.
Yeah, I was a fellow BlackBerry user. I've had 2 in past... and my most recent device was the BlackBerry 9700.
I certainly miss the days where I'd manage to squeeze 70 hours out of a single charge cycle.
But nevertheless, I am absolutely in love with the HD2. Plus, I've owned countless HTC products, and I'm always left satisfied and smiling...

I just upgraded from a Blackberry curve, and from an IT professional's standpoint, I love this phone. The ability to tinker, the software community here, multimedia capabilities, and the tools built in (wifi access point, slacker, etc.) are a welcome breath of fresh air to having a smart phone.

For this to be a smooth transition you must realize this is a completely different experience. There will not be a lot, if any, official updates. What there will be is unofficial/leaked updates that are implemented in custom (cooked) roms. Some of these will be leaked from Microsoft and some will be released from HTC but TMobile USA will most likely not leak any. Don't panic though, because this is why we love XDA Devs so much.
You will need to read MSkips tutorial on flashing HardSPL. HSPL will allow you to flash these custom roms and a few other things. These custom roms will often be cutting edge so read which ones you really want because some will simply be going for speed, others looks and others stability. There are some great cooks around here who actually combine all three.
I write this because you are already panicking on a lack of updates. That's just not how it works here so you have to let it go. You don't find the same OS version on every model like in BlackBerry or Iphone over here. Older models are having roms cooked for them that include what only the new ones have out the box because many of the older phones here don't have the memory or are simply out of the loop for the carrier and HTC. My 8525 was like that. I'm just explaining so you understand the landscape better.
The best way to succeed here is to search and ask questions once you can't find the answers. Most of the stuff you have questions about has been asked and answered before (most but not all). Make sure to read in this forum and the other HD2 forum because the phones aren't that different. If you have a question or concern about a specific program or rom make sure you ask the question in that thread and not create a new thread.

We make a deal after going back and fourth on text messages. He tells me a few hours later he's not buying because he bought it locally at walmart. WHAT A PATHETIC JERK!! I ^&%^ wasted my time taking pix to send him just for him to take this whole thing as a JOKE! I lost out on another potential deal because this idiot agreed on buying it. BE AWARE of this LOSER!!!

Great info....i really enjoyed your post...I cant wait to strart learning more and more about this phone. I really lucked out. My local walmart had only 1 left, and i had a gift card so i got it at a good price. I have had the iphone and this is so much better....i cant wait to start to customize it...

I really don't know what to say about this. Did I talk with him about buying his phone yes, did we talk back and fourth all day about it? yes. Isn't that what craigslist is all about? bartering, making deals etc? it was at the last moment when i found out a local walmart had one HD2 left at the same price he was selling it at, and i had a gift card so it was even cheaper, and it was 5 min from my house (for returns etc) so that is why i backed out. I am in no way a "scammer" because of this. sorry, im not.
I apologized multiple times, and he wont accept, so there is no more that I can do. I even tried a few contacts to see if they would buy it from him. I cant do any more...
on a positive, Jain75 was Very good with communication, and answered all my questions i had about the sale. he did take multiple pictures for me like i had asked. I had asked for all of that, because i was sending someone 450 dollars whom i did not know, so i wanted all the proof that the phone was legit that i could get. and he did give that all to me.
again, i feel really bad, but what else can i do? i have had MANY MANY people say "yeah ill buy that, let me get back to you" and i never hear back. at least i told him the truth,....
I just recently came over from a blackberry storm 2 to hd2 April 1. Let me say that the HD2 is a totally different experience from blackberry. I loved how the blackberry managed my business OTOH it sucked for pleasure. With the HD2 you get both business and pleasure.
HTC blows blackberry out of the water to me, at least this hd2 does. By that I mean large screen, plenty of themes, apps, etc. Not the same old tired interface as blackberry. It has NO LAG WHATSOEVER. This phone has all my needs met and more.
Only thing about windows is you have to find roms,apps, etc instead of it being in a central location.
I will be using this phone for awhile, t-mobile is crappy in my area so I unlocked to at&t.
I carry a BB Tour and a HD2 right now.
The only two things I like about the BB over the HD2 are the battery life of the BB and the keyboard. I HATE the HD2 on screen keyboard. Even swipe blows.
But if you are anything like me, it's all about the Apps (quality Apps, that is). The HD2 is my media phone, hands down (better than my iPhone). The BB is the work horse and back up music player.

I hate the onscreen keyboard too lol. I have been trying to find another input keyboard that somewhat resembles blackberry.
Actually this HD2 can do it all. Give it a try. I use it for my business and media. I plug my phone up to my car everyday for media and it charges it as well.
Im really looking to get one these bad boys tomorrow,Im coming from a g1 and im a little nervous about leaving android to go with windows again. The last windows phone i had was the tmo wing,i loved it at the time but it was a little frustrating having to keep on flashing new roms to stay updated and happy,plus I havent flashed anything since then so Im pretty much a noob at flashing again. I've read a couple of posts that other people posted on leaving android and its pretty much 40% in favor and the rest regretting it. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

it all comes down to whether or not you can deal with pretty sh*tty battery life and without tons and tons of apps... If you want apps, you DONT want WM...
but the phone is extremely cool and EXTREMELY customizable... if you want this phone and apps, then you can either wait for the android port which is gonna take awhile from my understanding or you can wait for the EVO 4g that comes out this summer for sprint.. which is basically this phone with a 8MP (and 720p video recording) camera and android os..
I just got my HD2 but I might trade it in when that sumb*tch is released

Phone has horrendous stability issues.
Most issues come with the stock rom. Flashing (this is my first WM phone and I would consider it easy) to a more stable ROM here that can be found in these forums, helps get rid of a lot of the instability. For most, you sort of have to go through a lot to get the phone to actually act like a phone.
Thanks for the help guys,i really dont want too deal with any more battery issues with a new phone, i had enough battery issues with the g1 so thanks for telling me that cause thats pretty much a deal breaker for me. AS for the evo 4g,i was eyeing that but its for sprint and unless i pay $800 for an unlocked one i dont i will get it as i have tmobile. Another alternative i was thinking on is the nexus one,i spoke to a tmobile rep today and he said he has the hd2 and its siiting on a windowceil somewhere in his house and he claims the nexus one is the best phone out now. what are you guys thoughts on that.
Don't let a few people stray you away from picking up a good phone.
1. You are supposed to condition the battery for peak performance. Drain it completely. Turn it off. Charge it up to 100%. Turn it on and use it until its drained completely again. Repeat process. Unless there is something wrong with your battery, this will give you good longevity.
2. A custom ROM solves 90% of the problems people have with this phone. I didn't have any problems with mine on the stock ROM, but it works much faster and better on the custom one.
3. I came from the G1 and MyTouch and have not looked back even once. Sure there are more PUBLICALLY available apps. The customization ability and apps out there for WM is HUGE. You just have to look for them and do a little digging. They aren't right there in front of you spoonfed like Android does.
4. If you can flash a Wing, you can easily flash the HD2. It's ridiculously easy in comparison to other phones I have flashed/rooted. This forum is one of the best to show you what to do and how to do it. It makes it almost impossible to mess anything up.
My phone can and does last several days on a charge now that I have it conditioned and on the custom ROM. Go to the store, use the phone, and play around with it.
You will not be disappointed if you take the time to learn the phone and don't expect it to just work and be perfect out of the box. WM is not that way. Just like you can't expect your computer to be just how you want it out of the box, the same applies here. It takes some customization, some work, and some trial and error to make it do what you want.
tj05fx4 thanks for the well thought out response, after reading yours and a couple of other posts i'm most likely gonnna get it as there looks like there wont be another good phone coming out for tmobile anytime soon I might as well get this one. Hopefully i wont miss android too much but then again there's talk about an android port in the future(I still dont know 100% how that will work) but i'll look forward to it

ive been looking into this phone as well...just keep your old android phone (for me its a MT3G) and keep flashing roms to it thatway its alwasy updated
My HD2 battery was scary the first week also.
Now it totally beats the G1 battery to death
Now if I have it on constantly, and I mean constant, then it only lasts about 5 or 6 hours. But under normal use I can forget to charge it overnight and still mae it through the next day.
There was NO WAY my G1 could ever do that.
I bought 3 batteries for my G1 (one was a 2200mha) and needed them.
I ordered one for my HD2 and now think I should have saved my money.
Not sure what "stability issues" the guy is talking about. Only problem I ever had was the music player would stop playing for a second when my outlook was syncing.
Moving from stock rom fixed that.
The HD2 is the fastest, nicest and most customizable phone on the market. Don't let the negative people get you down.
They don't know how to use their phone because the came from another O/S (which I did too) or they have a broken phone. It works great.
Stability issues
A glance at the forums will answer the myriad problems with "stability;" I can say that using the phone for its intended and advertised purposes causes it to lock up, or sometimes just get very slow and jittery, period.
I DO know how to use my phone. I've been on windows mobile since winmo5 and on this forum since 2007.
This phone is not fit for its intended purpose and is half baked. It is the "emperors new phone" to mix a metaphor.
However I've not returned mine as I have hope that these issues can be resolved, but, I've had to waste a ton of time already with this thing.
Maybe mine is faulty, but a quick review of the forums will show that many must be also. In any event anyone buying this phone should be well warned that it will be a vortex of lost time and considerable frustration to get it to work anywhere near as advertised.

I've had my HD2 since release day and have only experienced the lagging/freezing issue once, and that was early on when I inadvertently used the HTC/Sense Messaging application that comes with the HD2. That application is the bane of this phone. I don't text a lot, so I rarely used it, but if you send and receive a decent amount of text messages and you use this app, you are definitely going to experience lagging/freezing.
I found a post in the forums here to disable the HTC/Sense Messaging app and use the standard WinMo messaging app and have had ZERO issues with the phone ever since. I've also flashed to a number of Kumar's cooked ROMs with ZERO issues.
IMHO, the majority of the "stability" issues people talk about are related to that damned HTC/Sense Messaging app because without using it, my phone runs perfectly. Once in a while, I'll download an app that is poorly written and cause the device to act up, but a simple uninstall fixes it right away and I stay away from that app.
That said, only you can determine if you want to do the things you need to do to get the phone singing the way you want it to. Only you can determine if you absolutely have to have the thousands of useless apps that the Droid market has or if the apps on OMarket, MS Marketplace, Handango, etc. are enough.
This phone is an absolute keeper for me.

The only thing that bothers me is the 3G signal from TMOUSA. I will get out of that soon, but other than that this phone is not bad at all. Nice in-call volume, wifi-n (when enabled via reg tweak), 5 mp camera, and a big a$$ screen with WVGA resolution (plus a 16 gb card)...
The only time I experienced instability was when I flashed to NRG's rom. Stock works surprisingly well though (although, if I could remove most of the preloaded demos, it would be better)...
I am still in my remorse period but might just keep it after all

I noticed that too, then again...most of the nexus ROMs out are near perfect...and don't require as much hackery as the G1 Roms did...I dunno whatsup with any ports as of yet, but I'm sure things will pick up.

This is exactly it. The fact that there aren't constant updates to ROMs is a success I think...it means nothing is horridly broken. This is the first phone I've had in a long time, that I've been so satisfied with, I'm not flashing a new ROM every other day.
We have the latest version of android out there that is accessible by the public or the ROM devs (that they can release).
We aren't trying to backport features because of the above.
The only real (I say real in a non "thanks bro" way) ROM porter we have is without internet (I assume on vacation).
As stated above, most things already work as they should.
While development is slow compared to the G1, also remember that all of our devs also do work on other devices and don't just devote all their android expertise to just one phone.
There isn't any new material to work with. Until Google releases FroYo or new beta updates we're at a stand still.
If you worked in the software world, you would be seeing this as a good thing

Its a good thing because there are no major bugs in existing ROMs. They only get updated when google or some dev introduces new features...
This is my first phone which is still running stock ROM. With all my earlier devices...something always seemed broken or felt like it lacked something.
When I had Touch.. Touchflo was launched by HTC and all the ROM development was diverted to getting Touchflo on Touch. And with lack of enough RAM, there were always choices to be made on what you want and hence many ROMS
Then I got Diamond. It was good, but again had less RAM than Touch Pro. Again race was to get Touch Pro features in Diamond and again choices had to be made to cramp up things in the limited storage.
Then I got Touch Pro... and within few months, Diamond II and Touch Pro II was launched. Cooks started scrambling to get new touchflo 3d on Diamond and Touch Pro.
Then I got Diamond II, and sure enough HTC continued there trend of backstabbing it's customers and launched HD2 with new touchflo aka Sense. Cooks then started to figure out ways to get Sense UI on diamond II.
So you see, there were always things lacking... which forced cooks to figure out things that HTC should have done for us. HTC's first Touch phone was launched along with iPhone... but touch hasn't received any updates for past 2 years.... and Apple is still supporting iPhone (although no OS4 for them).
N1 on the other hand is Google's responsibility. We have the latest OS and features. There is not enough "to-do" things here.
Regardless of that, our Chefs are doing amazing job at giving us the features which AOSP is still finalizing.
With all due respect to you.. I think it is a bit unfair to say that the chefs aren't doing much.

I'm sorry, we'll get right on it, boss.
It is "slow" because the phone and the ROMs are so damn fast and good already. You can't port 1.5/6 ROMs over because we can't map the buttons without having a 1.5/6 Kernel made for the Nexus One. That is never going to happen.
As well, really? What is slow about the development? We have tons of new apps coming out all the time, the ROMs we have a super fast and super stable. New Kernels every day or two pushing battery life and CPU power even further.
There is tons of development going on. Just because you aren't seeing new ROMs every day doesn't mean a lack of development, it means the ROMs we have are super solid, and development has shifted to making the other aspects better, like apps themselves, and so forth. That is one of the best things about Android, you don't need to flash a new ROM just to get some new apps, like HexiLauncher and what not, all you need to do is install the app, and voila you have a new home/launcher option on your phone.
Or, you don't need to flash a new ROM just to get a new kernel, you can flash the kernel yourself (if you know how to follow simple instructions) that gives you the newest features, and features that mean more to our phones running super fast than a new ROM would mean... actually by ROM I am talking about system.img...
Anyways, if you really think things are just way to slow, then either learn how to do it yourself, make a huge donation to your favorite developer on the basis of them picking up the pace (and by huge, I mean 50k+, so they can quit their day job), or just accept the simple fact that there is a ton of development going on already, you (and many as of late) don't seem to understand enough to realize that kernels and apps are more important, at this point in time, than a ROM update every other day.
LOL another one of these threads curious as to what else can you ask for? All the tweaks that are available and possible for this phone has already been done.

Now this I would agree with you. The number of ROM devs are a lot less compared to the G1, :-( the phone is fairly new though.. But the ones we have working on the N1 are all great nevertheless .

ahh.. so you are suffering from what I call XDA syndrome. It's when you start feeling uncomfortable when you haven't flashed a new ROM in a week. I had that too... back in WinMo days... fortunately N1 has helped and I have resisted so far!

Seriously though, Modaco has been gone for awhile. Got stuck cuz of the volcano issue... it's been weeks since he has released even an update!
We are a little spoiled with the N1 I think... on top of that with 2.2 coming out shortly I think a bunch of cooks will be kinda waiting for that to come out before they do any more major tweaking.
The main thing I personally am waiting for is a fully working SenseUI on the N1.... I kinda thought it would materialize much quicker once the DESIRE came out.

LOL... i think i have the same problem im feenin for another enom rom but as he stated he was on vacation which i can respect cause im going to Miami soon. I have no complaints to the rom development but i'd love to see more themes like motoblur style X10 style i miss my motoblur theme on my magic

Coming from winmo myself it was a change not having a dozen or more roms to choose from but in reality looking at it objectively most of the roms are either adding something that came in a newer device or more or less a rehash of what was already done in that they didnt do anything new but they did it in a different way. Not that the latter is a bad thing, the improved layouts people came up with greatly eased, speeded up, reduceded the number of clicks, etc. in getting where you wanted to go and I at least was happy to see them coming down the pipe. As an aside when winmo was as youthful as android is now there was a lot less rom activity than what you see now as best as I can recall back.

lol, I had that like 2 weeks ago...kept flashing and flashing and flashing...finally I settled on my highly customized 5.0.5.3, still haven't jumped to 5.0.6 due to wifi issues (and me being suspended until payment next week)
I had 'XDA Syndrome' with my Magic.. I found myself flashing something new (ROM or theme) every week. Now with my Nexus, I have no desire to do so. Like others have already said, I think it's a testament to the stability of the ROMS out there coupled with the fact that 2.1 is already kick ass. We already have the best software on our N1's people. Believe me, once 3.0 or even Froyo comes out we will see an increase in ROM development.
Also, there may not be many devs for the N1 as of now, but many of the absolute best ones have a Nexus so I'm not worried about future development.
Hi Guys I am after some answers:-
I was interested in the HTC Desire HD and did not realise that the HD2 could dual boot so run WM6.5 and Android and from what I have read Android runs off the SD card so I have a few questions:-
1) How does Android run pretty much flawless....slow...buggy and only 720p recording doesn't work everything else does?
2) Anyone have a Desire, Desire HD and HD2 for comparison ?
3) What ROM is most like the desire HD I like the interface on that.
4) Can you sync outlook calender with HD2 Android ?
I am no stranger to flashing I have always had windows phones and flashed custom cooked roms and spl's so from what I have read up I will be ok to set this up myself.

I am on contract with T-Mobile at the moment and the Desire HD is out of stock and they can't tell me when it will come back into stock they have stock of the Galaxy which I here is due a Froyo 2.2 upgrade soon so the HD2 would have been the best of both worlds for me having WM and Android.
If you want pretty stable android, get native Android phones. If you want to have fun and have the choose to dual boot into Android,wm7, and megoo, get the Hd2. As far I'm aware, Android runs pretty damn nice on this babe. No major issues what so ever..

If you mainly want android and want it stable, go with the android phone. I'd wait for the desire HD if I were you. A 4.3 inch screen is great to have. But if you think you actually want winmo and will actually use it, then you might want to look at the hd2. Android runs decently on the hd2 ... its good for a port, but it will probably never be as stable as a native android phone. It takes a lot of work, research, and trial & error to tweak the hd2 to get android running well, but most people can get it running pretty well with some work.
If I were you, I would wait for the desire HD... it has the most ram, a big screen like the hd2, but with newer hardware and better multitouch than the hd2.

Not very stable? A few battery pulls a day? Complete bull**** if you have a somewhat recent build & kernel. There are some minor issues left, but Android on HD2 is certainly usable on a daily basis. If however you have the cash (and are willing to pay) then of course the HD will provide a (slightly) better Android experience, since it's native.

I saw a guide someone wrote back in july for best wm6.5.3 and android but no doubt there has been great progress since then ?
I am running Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._2.3_Clean for a while now (5 days) and have no issues whatsoever. (battery life remains bad though)
I have been using Android on the HD2 for about 3 weeks now. I had some issue in the first couple of days until I found a good ROM that just works. but after that, I can't really say I have anything to complain about!
The device used to hang a little in the first few days, but the cause was mainly some of the apps I used.
I did not really use WM since I got Android running on my HD2. it's certainly much nicer experience!
I have been using this ROM for quiet some time now with minimal issues

If you have custom ROM on your HD2, then all you need is make sure that this ROM supports Android (most of them do), then download the files to your device and run Android... that's it.
As for outlook calendar, AFAIK, you can sync it with Google calendar, then this will be synced to your device (you need Google account to set up your HD2)
I would say, go for it and give it a try, it's very different from WM
My honest opinion is its more the fun in it, initially I had battery pulls and screens of death but know that I have my radio right and rom right, and honestly the only reason I've shut it down was due to dead battery or replacing the kernel, from what I've heard the battery life in the desire be isn't great, neither is android on the hd2, but its drastically cheaper and its a learning experience.... do it

I am in the same boat as OP.
From what I have read, ROMs like Froyostone are totally solid.
People are claiming that it runs totally fine, with almost no issues at all.
I'm thinking of buying an HD2 just to run Android as my daily phone.
Would you not recommend this? I know the older roms were buggy, but from what i read it runs as good as a Desire (original).
Are people bullsh*tting? or is it really that good now?
I recently bought a HD2 just to run android.
Ive been using android on it for a few days and I gotta say its pretty good. Its not perfect, you do get some freeze ups, though they only last for a few seconds. Ive had some data drops, since then Ive installed the fix and it seems to be working fine now.
I know Id rather have the HD2 than the desire, the big screen is awesome.

As already mentioned: That's just completly bull****.
I'm running and upgrading my AndroidHD2 every few weeks since this summer and the first FroyoStone releases and pretty much all builds have become totally perfect, especially the desire builds.
I was running MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v.1.6 until 1.7 was released this week and got freaking 3 days and 21 hours of battery life, that's almost a 400%+ compared to the days I was running WinMo 6.5.
If you're having fun to do stuff with your phone, tweaking it, installing new things and so on go for HD2, since its at 400$ atm I think.
If you just want a working phone and don't want to care about such stuff get the Desire HD oder whatever you like.

There is no best combo, people get all kinds of different results even with the same setup. It's probably due to different SD cards, not too sure on that though. It's going to take you a few days to figure out what's good for you, but once you have your WinMo build and Radio good, probably every Android build will run just fine, leaving stuff up to your own taste. Coming from an HTC Magic, I really liked Cyanogenmod so I'm running all kinds of CM-based roms (currently JDMS 1.5, it's the most recent one). If you like Sense, MDJ's builds are probably your best shot.
But again, there's no guide on what is best. If you feel like experimenting a bit, you're gonna have a good time, but if you want a 'no hassle' phone go for the Desire (HD). I bought my HD2 especially for Android btw, found it for about €250 on ebay (unlocked), while a desire would be at least 400 for inferior hardware.
So its totally sweet then.

There's a reason HD2 prices on ebay have started increasing recently (at least in the UK) and it's because news is spreading about what can be done on it and what is in the pipeline. I only use Android on my HD2 and have done for two months now, Only reason I know what WinMo Rom I've got on my phone is cos it's listed in my sig lol.
Recent builds have gotten so stable I can't remember the last time I had an app crash on me, the market is flawless, I get very few data drops (and they don't last long either), camera is as good as under WinMo (5MP in other words) and very few other niggles. The main thing some peoples complain about is battery life, but that's only because they don't calibrate the battery properly (have your battery at 100% when you install a build and it will be fine tho).
I wanted a new Android phone but couldn't really afford a Vibrant, etc.
I decided to get the HD2, and I do not regret it. I use one of Darkstone's rom, and I've never had major issues with it.
I had some battery life issues, so I changed toHastarin's 8.2 kernel with Overclocking and Undervolting, and that solved my battery problem. I could get 2 days of light use if I wanted to, but I always use it a lot. With normal use I usually have 30-40% battery at the end of the day. With heavy use, I sometimes have to plug it in after about 12 hours of use, but that's rare.

i have to agree with the other posters, that is bull. i use mccm build and i never had the need to pull the battery. if hd2 is far cheaper than desire hd and you prefer to save some money, i'd strongly consider hd2.
Im complety newbie in the android stuff....
first i buy HD2 only from WinMo...
but after i found so many fantastic build in XDA, im using android as daily for about a month now...
sure, it takes little bit working n searching.....
but for me, thats the beauty of it....
For now, i already found a couple build that i thought perfect enough, no lag or whatsoever....
but i still keep trying the other builds, just to see the difference...

1) saves battery life the most, and is fast.
2) and one that looks like the 6.5 stock with sense from the hd2.
if any of you can suggest an android version based on these needs, please let me. thanks.

1) "Android" drains more battery than Windows Mobile, always. The reason I quote it is because Android itself doesn't drain more battery, the user drains more battery. Android is much more versatile and user friendly than any other OS out there so you have more things on it and use it more, therefore...less battery life. Sense roms drain the battery even further, more eye candy/features = more drain. Non-Sense roms drain the least battery and CyanogenMod roms (CM/CM6/CM7 as they're referred to) are a little better than Sense roms when it comes to battery drain (most of the time), however, I prefer Sense as it just looks better and has more handy features; for Sense I recommend CMYLXGO's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915159) or CoreDroid's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926507) --- I personally use CoreDroid's as CMY's has been giving me crashes when changing notifications and sometimes the dialer hangs, CoreDroid is fantastic though and looks nice with the theming, I'll stick to that for quite a while. As for Non-Sense roms, I recommend HyberDroidGBX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899).
2) As for one that looks like WM6.5, I don't see it happening. None come like that stock that I've seen and I've never seen a theme that looks like it, in my opinion, it would take far too many apps/widgets to make it look like WM6.5 to keep it stable.
In my opinion, if you want to get rid of you HD2 because of the battery life/speed, you won't be happy with another phone ever again.
I assume this is your first 'true' smart phone, their battery is just as good as an old Nokia/Motorola phone when it comes to standby, but what do you expect when you have a screen 4 times the size and features out the ass? If you want a smartphone AND long battery life, there's one solution...use it for Phone calls only (and render it useless as a smart phone in the process)

thats not true! the iphone beats it in terms of speed. its been tested and proven. i dont mean to advertise the iphone, but based on what i've experienced with and read about it, it comes on top in terms of speed, apps, battery, and stability.
iPhone is actually slower than the HD2 in terms of specs, iPhones just 'appear' faster because iOS is as simple as Windows 95 and Windows Mobile is as slow as...I don't really have a pun for this one but it's slow.
The battery life is based upon the user, I will admit that iPhone's have a little bit of a better battery life (as long as you don't abuse 3/4G).
Keep in mind, you're basing your assumptions about the HD2 off of WM which is slow and lacking features all on its own.

I truly hate to see you say you are considering selling (I read your other thread in the HD2 General forum too) your HD2 as the HD2 is not just your run of the mill smartphone. It was the first in a new wave of smartphones because of the screen size, screen resolution, and 1gz Snapdragon processor. If you take a look at the new smartphones that have been and are being released after the HD2 you will see exactly what I mean.
I loved and still do love Windows Mobile, it was a pioneer as far as a what a truly functional mobile OS should be and the capabilities it has. I have considered several times going back to Windows Mobile since I made the switch to Android, but have not for several reasons.
1. I just can not bare the thought of having to deal with the quirkiness of Windows Mobile, everyone should know what I mean by that.
2. I truly believe Android is the OS of the future. Android is growing at such a rapid pace it is leaving other OS's behind. One reason for this is not because of the popularity of Android but because Android is a open sourced system meaning anyone who can contribute to it as far as improvements and features can. This is what is meant when you hear "When it is no limits to what Droid gets, it is no limit to what Droid does."
3. Android has way more apps, development, and hacking support than Windows Mobile at this point.
4. I am learning everything I can about Android right now as I want to be a developer.

I know you said you like the iPhone and Apply does have some good products. But I hate Apply because to me they are totally disrespectful to the consumer, you know the people that actually by their products. If I pay a large chunk of money for a device I want to be able to do what I want to with it. Not be told I can only use it in they way that the manufacture or OS developer wants me to. After all I paid my money for the device so it belongs to me not them. I could go way deeper into the conversation but this post is already massive.

I am not going to argue about the iPhone. I never used it, I don't like it so I have nothing to say about it.

I cannot accept the fact that you want to sell your HD2 (the only device that support so many OSs) before even trying Android.
I am using Android since the firsts SD build came out and once NAND was out I have never changed back to WinMo.
Battery life for me is better than WinMo in equal use but as hd2k10 said it is the user who is draining the battery and not the OS.
There are Sense, Non-Sence and MIUI builds.
If you want an iPhone GUI you can always check MIUI builds.

By whom and when? IMO iPhone 4 is equally fast as HD2 with stock Android. And YES, I have used iPhone 4 a lot (my father owns it and I'm always helping him with something, intuitive OS my a** ) and both phones are just instant. I mean there is no lag at anything. But often iOS has to load something and you just sit there and admire blank screen before stuff appears. Never seen that on my HD2.
Android is as fast as the device it's running on. HD2 is amazingly fast, and so is OS running on it.

i think youre saying that an hd2 with droid may be faster that an iphone. if thats the case, i might agree with you, since i did see gingerbread 2.3.2 on an hd2 and its just incredibly fast!

yes this is very true. which is why i'm thinking about instlling gingerbread 2.3.2 that some russian guy called imilka has created. it looks VERY fast. i just hope he updated the cam though.. thats the only thing that worries me cuz the cam runs very very slow.

yeah i'm thking about installing gingerbread 2.3.2. it looks very sleek and modern, unlike the other droid builds that are horrible, that look like win '95 and look so nerdy. and thats for the positive feedback. i will install droid. and i appreciate you helping me. thanks, man.

Back to topic, if you looking for fast, smooth and stable rom, check that one I have in my sig. I use it for months now and Im very satsified. Only you know, what are you looking for. Every rom thread has description of it, what is working and what is not, screenshots and users personal feelings about it. For me instaling Android from scratch to fully working phone is about 20mins and its not difficult. Just read, read and read again. Good luck

using the multi-quote button is to my discretion. and the only one insulting anyone here is raven. hes one of the trolls on my other thread that insulted me. if you want to curtail insults, consult with him, not me.
anyway, back on topic. i checked out the rom you suggested. it looks nerdy, no offense. but i was checking out imilka's Gingerbread on this page:

i like it a lot. but, the camera has issues. and its based on gingerbread 2.3.3.
i want gingerbread 2.3.4, but i want it looking like imilks'a gingerbread. how can i get gingerbread 2.3.4 installed looking like imilka's gingerbread? let me know and i thank you for your input.

Well, everybody got his own preferences regarding to rom. As for you question, you cant have Android 2.3.4 until imilka release update to his rom. Maybe if you ask in his thread, you should get an answer. Besides, there is not much difference between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. Just small improvements and bug fixes. Give it a try, you want to sell your HD2 anyway.

If you want 2.3.4 you need to go with Unofficial [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940684&highlight=Cynagen+Nighly+7"]Cynogan Nighlies for HD2, NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.7 , or TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.2.2. Now as far as getting the look of the Imilka ROM, well his ROM has the look you are talking about because it is based off of the Desire HD and that is the UI the Desire HD has. I do not know if you can get a launcher or theme like that on your HD2 but the chances are very high that you can. You will just have to go into the Android Market and grab some launchers and then look at what themes the launchers offer. Or you can always download a Android Kitchen and start modding the ROM to your liking. Also check out these two sections HD2 Android apps and thems and Android Themes .

hello once again, t-mac. and thanks for the support. i checked out the links you posted. the droids look good and similar. ok, i got some questions for you:
1) which do you recommend based on my needs of being very fast, no glitches/bugs, and long batt life?
2) i need launchers that look like the Desire HD. hopefully, there are for this droid.
3) can you tell me the advantages of 2.3.4 over 2.3.3?
4) and i see that you on 2.3.3. any reason why you wont switch to 2.3.4?
5) in imilka's gingerbread based on 2.3.3, why isnt the cam working? is there a fix for it?
6) is v2.3.4 the latest gingerbread version?

1) I recommend Cynogan Nighlies for HD2 ( have not tried yet but will soon) or TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.2.2 (I have tried and liked it but I was using MAGLDR).
2) As long as the launcher supports the Android version which most launches support all Android versions including 2.3.4 then you can use them on any android device or Android ROM, you get the lauchers from the Android Market or do a Google search for Android launchers and download the .apk file and put it on your SD card and then use a file explorer in Android to find the apk and open it. Andropid will ask if you want to install the apk.
3) I really do not know all the advantages just yet but I know that you can get a couple of themes on 2.3.4 that you can not on 2.3.3. But i am sure there is more differences than that although I highly doubt they are very drastic.
4) The man reason is becaus I have been real busy around my house lately and have not had time to go to a WiFi spot to download some more ROMs. Plus I have been trying to get a Android kitchen up and running on my computer. But I keep getting a damn Bash.exe error saying cynwin.dll is missing from your computer and I have not been able to correct it yet. So you see I have been kinda preoccupied.
5) This I really do not know, I would have to be able to look at his ROM in a kitchen and also use ADB on it to see if I could track down the source of the problem, might would even have to decompile it. You have to remember the Andriod ROMs for the HD2 all come from other devices so they have to be modded to work with the HD2's hardware.
6) Yes 2.3.4 is the most resent Android phone release and it has not been out very long. You do have Android 3.0 Honeycomb but it is suppose to be just for tablets. But devs have been porting it to phones. The HD2 has a 3.0 honeycomb port but it is still really buggy still.

hi, t-mac. at this point, i'm confused. i looked at the droids you recommended and to be honest, i'm just not feeling them. i just want a very fast and reliable droid where everything (including wifi and cam) works with no glitches. and one where i can install a theme that looks like the desire hd. if that means installing 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.4, then so be it. but i got to have these conditions met.
i know i'm asking alot out of you. and i appreciate your time. but i just ask for more recommendations based on my needs. thanks man.
